AbstractThe cover picture refers to this issue's Feature Article starting on page 255. Kathrin Sebald, Carsten Kruse, and Jan Wiersig (University of Bremen, Germany) review the optical properties of II–VI‐based monolithic microcavities with quantum wells or quantum dots embedded. The scanning electron micrograph on the left depicts the VCSEL pillar structure. The middle column shows the measured two‐dimensional spatial distribution of the pillar's photoluminescence emission with increasing optical mode order from top to bottom. And the right column displays the calculated transverse electric‐field patterns of the cavity modes. (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
