Abstract A nano level voltammetric sensing method has been developed for electrochemical analysis of cetirizine at nano clay modified carbon paste sensor by employing cyclic voltammetry and square wave voltammetry techniques in pH 8.0. The modified carbon particles were characterized by Atomic force microscope. The influence of parameters like pH, accumulation time for cetirizine drug were studied by employing cyclic voltammetry and scan rate, excipients, cetirizine concentration variation were studied by employing SWV technique for quantitative determination in phosphate buffer. The fabricated sensor was employed for the determination of cetirizine in pharmaceutical samples. The linear response was obtained in the range of 0.1 to 0.3 µM with a detection limit of 8.48 nM at nano clay modified carbon paste sensor. A possible mechanism of electrochemical oxidation of cetirizine was proposed.
