India's modern transport system was initiated by Britishers. Since then, transport networks have been developed century by century to come to the present stage. This paper attempts to discuss in brief to see to what extent, TMG model is been going tandem with the development in maritime supply chains of India's containerised freight. Backed with thorough data and facts, development of supply and demand of containerised freight in India is argued. Furthermore, role of Sagarmala initiative in developing port and maritime sector is studied. Most importantly, implications of TMG model in Indian context are examined and concluded that although the development of maritime supply chains (MSCs) of containerised freight has picked up but it is not going as per stages mentioned in the TMG model. Hence, the mismatch is argued and the shortfalls are discussed in brief. In the end, policy implications are drawn as an attempt to suggest government and policy makers about how to proceed with development of MSCs of containerised freight in India.
