Reflections of Technological Developments on Tourist Guidance: Mobile Tourist Guide Applications

Technology is spreading to all areas of life day by day and has a significant impact on the tourism system, which consists of many different components. The profession of tourist guiding is also affected by technology and innovation. Advanced GPS-supported map applications, applications that offer detailed, written and audio descriptions of museums and protected areas can now offer tourists the alternative of travelling without a guide, even in destinations they visit for the first time. In this study, the effects of mobile tourist guide applications on the field of profession were examined by giving sample technological applications. The research conducted is a review study and the applications related to the subject in the field have been examined. The most preferred or most common 3 mobile tourist guide applications in the field were evaluated together with their features and their effects on the guiding profession. It has been determined that mobile tourist guide applications provide tourists with many different and rich information during their trips and facilitate tourists' trips.

Mobile Tourism Research and Practices: A Comprehensive Bibliometric Exploration and Future Study Direction

Even though mobile tourism analysis is developing, there is still a lack of literature regarding its formation patterns which makes the picture of its evolution incomplete. The evaluation in this study was carried out in general by emphasizing the evolution of exploratory analysis on the theme of "mobile tourism". This article aims to determine the increasing development of mobile tourism in terms of the number of publications, journals, authors, and the most relevant citations. Then analyze the itinerant tourism distribution map based on grouping, with merging, joint citation, collaboration network analysis, and joint word assessment, and interpret the conceptual structure of the country's co-occurrence and collaboration network regarding its visual representation. The method used is a descriptive approach through bibliometric analysis. An in-depth search of the Scopus database and RStudio software was conducted, screening, analyzing, and interpreting 752 relevant articles from 2014 to 2023. The findings show that an increase in the development of mobile tourism is identified from an increase in the number of publications, the most relevant journals, and authors, as well as the increasingly diverse origins of the authors even though the number of annual average citations has decreased slightly. Recommended six themes in mobile tourism studies, namely Tourism, Technology Acceptance Models (TAM), Mobile Applications, Recommendation Systems, Loyalty, and Cultural Tourism, and produced Technology Acceptance Models and Tourism as important studies with great prospects in the future.

Capturing mobile, situational, and multi-dimensional tourist experience: an integrated approach

ABSTRACT Inspired by the critical and mobility turns in tourism studies, this article provides a conceptualisation of understanding tourist experiences on the move, along with an integrated methodology for tracking mobile tourist experiences. It argues that tourist experience is mobile and situational. Multi-dimensional aspects of tourist experience evolve and interact during their journey. Based on recent theoretical and methodological advancements, this article proposes an integrated approach to capturing the geographic, sensory, social, and emotional aspects of tourist experiences at specific places and times throughout their journey. To offer a more comprehensive understanding of the intricate and evolving nature of tourist experiences in different geographical contexts, this approach integrates Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking, portable sound levels sensing, and wearable physiological sensing technologies, together with Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) survey, in-situ photos and videos, and photo – and video-elicited interviews. A study case of the mobile tourist experience on Mount Huangshan in China is used to illustrate the integrated approach. Finally, this article concludes by discussing theoretical contributions, methodological advancements, and practical implications, which lay foundations for understanding the dynamics and complexities of tourist experiences in future studies.

PERANCANGAN UI/UX PADA APLIKASI WISATA LOMBOK MENGGUNAKAN METODE USER CENTERED DESIGN

This study investigates the application of User-Centered Design (UCD) principles in the design UI/UX for the mobile tourism application, 'Wisata Lombok.' The research aims to demonstrate how UCD can significantly improve user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) in context-specific applications. The methodology employed a multi-phase approach, including user research, persona development, iterative design. Data was collected through interviews with local and tourists, online surveys with Lombok residents, and on-site observations. This information guided the creation of user personas and informed the application's feature set and design decisions. Key findings reveal that incorporating local cultural elements into the UI design enhanced user engagement. The implementation of features like maps and cultural event calendars. Usability testing was carried out using an online questionnaire using the UEQ method. The UEQ contains 26 questions which structured in the form of a semantic differential, where each word consists of two terms expressing opposite meanings. The form was distributed to 35 respondents. All of the 35 respondents, 16 identified as male and 19 as female. The age distribution indicates that 29 respondents are within the 18-35 years old range, while 6 respondents are within the 35-56 years old. The UEQ result shows that the perspicuity and efficiency scale has the highest values, 2.29 and 1.96, falling within the “Excellent” range, indicating that the respondents didn't find any difficulties in operating the user interface. The attractiveness, dependability, and novelty scale fall within the “above average” value, indicating that the user interface was based on respondent needs. The stimulation scale has the least value 0.44 which fall within “bad” value , which means that the respondents was bored cause the user interface only has a few features.

Tourism actors in the current technological era have implemented information systems. With the rapid growth of tourist villages in Bantul Regency, there is a need for promotion and digital information delivery media. However, in developing digital media it is also necessary to pay attention to aspects of the users who are the target market. The design of the application called sidewi mobile (mobile tourist village information system) is based on user experience and needs, using the Design Thinking methodology which has five stages as follows: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. The design of the Sidewi mobile application was created using FIGMA software. This research has direct benefits, namely that it can be used as a benchmark for design needs before the development process. The results of the design are then tested using the usability testing method. Using a user friendly design approach and conducting testing using usability testing with the results of five users being able to complete the testing proves that when it was created using user experience there were no significant difficulties when used and it covered all needs.

The Influence of Design and Arousal on Impulse Purchase in Mobile Travel Applications

Since consumers’ impulse buying intentions can be easily completed via mobile platforms, impulse buying of travel products has become more common. Hence, this study aimed to understand how mobile tourism applications affect travelers’ impulse purchase behaviors. Utilizing the S-O-R framework and distinguishing environmental stimuli and consumer behaviors, this study proposed a conceptual model and hypotheses to investigate the relationship between usability, information effectiveness, emotional arousal, and impulsive purchase intentions in the context of mobile applications. Based on 63 responses, the experiment applied neuroscience methods and found that information effectiveness positively affected impulsive purchase intentions, while usability and emotional arousal did not have significant effects. Hence, results offer practical insights into the development of travel applications and extend the S-O-R framework with the inclusion of emotional arousal.

Actions of known-answer questions in guided tours

Abstract This study explores how guided tour interaction is achieved through certain question formats, specifically known-answer questions (KAQs), as they are deployed by guides for subsequently designing their talk to fit perceived visitor knowledge and for inviting visitor involvement in question-initiated talk. The approximately 470 minutes of video-recorded data come from guided tours in Japan, Belgium, South Korea, and Cambodia. In these tours, English was used as a common language among local guides and their foreign visitors. Analysis revealed how mobile tours are accomplished through sequences initiated by guides’ KAQs, exposing the guides’ strategic deployment of these questions and demonstrating how they subsequently utilized visitor responses to construct their talk. Comparison of the findings from the current study with those from previous research on KAQs in other institutional talk, such as educational and political settings, implies that, depending on the interactional goals, KAQs may perform diverse actions.

Gen-Y Behavioral intention to adopt mobile tourism apps: Extending UTAUT2 with trust and security

The evolution of technology and the widespread adoption of smart mobile devices like smartphones and tablets have significantly altered tourists' behavior using tourism services. Based on The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology, this research aims to investigate the factors affecting Gen-Y's inclination to use tourism apps in Vietnam. The model was tested using structural equation modeling (SEM) in quantitative methodology with 337 users from Vietnam. The result showed that five factors positively impact the intention behavior of using mobile tourism applications: performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, trust, and perceived security. Moreover, the findings propose practical implications and provide valuable insights for tourism app developers, marketers and operators in developing more effective tourism apps.

Research on the Requirements and Functions of Mobile Applications for Tourism among Disabled Individuals in China

There is a large number of disabled people, and the number of disabled people will continue to grow in the future. With the booming development of the tourism industry, the demand for travel by disabled people is also increasing, but the travel experience of most disabled people is ignored. Developers of tourism mobile applications pay little attention to the travel needs of disabled people. Due to the lack of attention to this group, there is great room for improvement in the travel experience of disabled people. This article focuses on the needs of Chinese disabled people for mobile applications for tourism. Through user interviews and semantic analysis, this groups needs for application functions are studied. Then, through a questionnaire survey based on the Kano model, the priority of application functions is analyzed. This study believes that the psychological needs of disabled people to be respected should be the top priority, followed by the needs for affordability, safe travel, and convenient access to information, and finally, social needs.

Virtual reality and augmented reality applications and their effect on tourist engagement: a hybrid review

研究目的本研究整合了关于虚拟现实（VR）和增强现实（AR）在旅游参与（TE）中的作用的见解。此外, 本研究为旅游和酒店业的研究提供了新的方向。研究方法本研究使用文献计量学和理论-背景-特征-方法（TCCM）框架分析, 采用混合综合审查方法, 分析了236篇同行评审的期刊文章研究发现计算机科学期刊在VR/AR研究中主导了TE领域。VR/AR的情感和沉浸属性支持了TE。在VR/AR的背景下, 探索文化理论可以丰富TE的视角。本研究通过探讨虚拟技术在保护文化遗产方面的作用, 以及研究VR/AR旅游移动应用中的TE意图和感知, 提供了有益的研究方向。研究创新这是第一项揭示现有研究结构和知识理论基础的研究。

Tourist encounters with a “GoPro”: three layers of hike&fly paragliding travels

Hike&fly is a recent development in adventure tourism combining cross-country paragliding flights with hiking in remote destinations and is currently under-researched as a relatively new tourism phenomenon. As it highly intersects with media technologies such as the GoPro, the paper explores how this media technology can introduce new ways of studying mobile tourist practices from a more-than-representational perspective. By drawing on work in mobility and media studies, the paper argues that the GoPro does not simply record the subjective viewpoints of the users and their environment but also modifies how users encounter and make sense of destinations. Through challenging the former notion, the paper makes two contributions to tourism geographies: First, the paper provides background – based on preliminary fieldwork – on the recent development of hike&fly paragliding travels and the role of GoPro in the context of adventure tourism. Secondly, it contributes a methodological framework for further studies on tourist encounters with a “GoPro” by proposing a three-layered approach that considers the GoPro’s ability to augment the human body, record a video trace, and generate somatic images.

Evaluating a User-Centered Environment-Friendly Mobile Phone App for Tourists and Residents Using Facial-Recognition Software

This study aims to examine a user-centered environment-friendly mobile phone app for tourists and residents in Saudi Arabia. To achieve this objective, a new fuzzy decision-making model is constructed. In this scope, by considering a detailed literature examination, eight criteria are identified. Facial expression-based quantum spherical DEMATEL with golden cuts are taken into consideration to examine the possible impact and directions among these criteria. The main contribution of this study is that priority factors in the development of the environment-friendly tourism mobile application can be identified. Moreover, facial expressions of the decision-makers are considered in the fuzzy decision-making analysis. This situation helps us to achieve more appropriate results. The findings demonstrate that user-centeredness is the most significant environment-friendly mobile application performance criterion of the tourism industry. Additionally, functionality is another important determinant with respect to this situation. It is of great importance to ensure customer satisfaction for the mobile applications used in the development of tourism to be successful. Thus, user feedback should be taken into consideration for them to work more effectively. Furthermore, tourism applications should provide users with fast and accurate information. In this context, mobile applications should offer customized offers to users to increase customer satisfaction.

Promoting Sustainable Travel Experiences: A Weighted Parallel Hybrid Approach for Personalized Tourism Recommendations and Enhanced User Satisfaction

With the growing significance of the tourism industry and the increasing desire among travelers to discover new destinations, there is a need for effective recommender systems that cater to individual interests. Existing tourism mobile applications incorporate recommendation systems to alleviate information overload. However, these systems often overlook the varying importance of different items, resulting in suboptimal recommendations. In this research paper, a novel approach is proposed: a weighted parallel hybrid recommendation system. By considering item weights and leveraging parallel processing techniques, this method significantly enhances the accuracy of the similarity between items, leading to improved recommendation quality and precision. With this approach, users can efficiently and effectively explore new destinations that align with their unique preferences and interests, thereby enhancing their overall tourism experience and satisfaction. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed weighted parallel hybrid recommendation system, we conducted experiments using a dataset consisting of 20 users. The results demonstrated that the proposed approach achieved an impressive classification accuracy of 80%. A comparative analysis revealed that the proposed approach outperformed that of existing systems and achieved the best results in terms of classification accuracy. This finding highlights the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method in generating and promoting sustainable travel experiences by developing a personalized recommendations system for the unique preferences and interests of individual users.

Mobile Tourism Recommender System for Users to Get a Better Choice of Tour

Smart mobile tourism app featuring augmented reality and big data analytics: an empirical analysis using UTAUT2 and PCT models

PurposeConsidering the limited understanding of determinants influencing the adoption of smart mobile tourism app (SMTA) featuring augmented reality (AR) and big data analytics (BDA), privacy concern (PC) and the risk of privacy information disclosure (PI) have threatened SMTA adoption. This study aims to propose an expanded consumer acceptance and use of information technology (UTAUT2) model by including new contextual components, integrated with privacy calculus theory (PCT) model to examine the determinants influencing behavioural intention (BI) to use SMTA.Design/methodology/approachPersonal innovativeness (IN) and privacy information disclosure (PI) are incorporated in UTAUT2 model to determine its effect on SMTA featuring AR and BDA technologies from smart perspective. Both privacy concern (PC) and privacy risk (PR) derived from PCT model are also included to determine its influences on an individual's willingness to disclose privacy information for better-personalised services. We collected responses from 392 targeted participants, resulting in a strong response rate of 84.66%. These responses were analysed statistically using structural equation modeling in both SPSS 22.0 and SmartPLS 3.0.FindingsFindings showed that personal innovativeness (IN), habit (HT) and performance expectancy (PE) significantly affect behavioural intention (BI) while privacy concern (PC) significantly affect privacy information disclosure (PI) to use SMTA. In contrast, effort expectancy (EE), hedonic motivation (HM) and privacy information disclosure (PI) had no significant effects on behavioural intention (BI) while privacy risk (PR) had no significant effects on privacy information disclosure (PI) to use SMTA.Originality/valueThe study findings help tourism practitioners in better comprehending recent trends of SMTA adoption for establishing targeted marketing strategies on apps to improve service quality. In addition, it enables app development companies acquire app users’ preferences to enhance their app development for leading app usage.

ФОРМИРОВАНИЕ МОБИЛЬНОЙ АРХИТЕКТУРЫ ОБЪЕКТОВ ЭТНОКУЛЬТУРНОГО ТУРИЗМА В УСЛОВИЯХ РОССИЙСКО-КАЗАХСТАНСКОГО ПРИГРАНИЧЬЯ

The Russian-Kazakh border area has a significant potential for the development of ethno-cultural tourism. One of the recommended forms of organizing tourism in the study area is the use of mobile objects. Based on this, the purpose of the study is to identify the features of the formation of such mobile tourist buildings. The objectives of the research are aimed at studying the historical experience of shaping the dwellings of nomadic peoples and analyzing modern, transformable, mobile, temporary mobile buildings, taking into account the specifics of the conditions of the Russian-Kazakh border area. The methods used in scientific work are a comparative analysis of mobile buildings according to various criteria and a numerical method for determining the compactness coefficient of the architectural form. Within the framework of the study, mobile modules that differ in the way of movement and habitat are considered. The most common types of object transformation are identified, a method for achieving a high degree of mobility of nomadic peoples' houses is analyzed, the compactness coefficients of mobile buildings are calculated, the architectural and planning organization of modern mobile buildings is investigated and the constructive and technological solutions of life support systems of transportable buildings are analyzed. As a result of the study, the following requirements are identified for the formation of mobile tourist buildings in the studied region: the movement of the building by means of motor vehicles, the transformation of volume by means of telescopic extension, the desire for compactness of architectural forms, the functional expediency of the dwelling and the autonomy of the engineering systems of the object. It is concluded that the identified requirements for the design of mobile tourist buildings will contribute to the creation of modern facilities that comply with the principles of sustainable tourism development

중국 여행플랫폼 서비스의 지속적 이용의도에 영향을 미치는 선행변수에 관한 연구

Overseas tourism in China is increasing every year, and especially considering the COVID19 situation, more and more travelers want to enjoy tourism using apps without local guides. In this circumstance, this study has been conducted to identify how the attributes of tourism applications affect relationship quality and continuous usage intention. In this study, 200 Chinese people received a questionnaire and conducted an empirical analysis. For empirical study, an online survey method is conducted from August 1, 2022 to August 25, 2022, focusing on those who have experiences in using a mobile tourism application. 200 questionnaires had been collected during the survey period and 195 questionnaires had been used in the final analysis, excluding the responses with missing values or irrelevant answers. The results of the study are as follows. First, the effects of tourism application attributes on reliability turned out to be partially supported, while the effects on satisfaction turned out to be supported. Second, in the relationship of reliability and satisfaction, the result showed that reliability was positively assosiated with user satisfaction. Third, it was found that relationship qualities, including reliability and user satisfaction, were positively affecting continuous intention to use Chinese tourism application.
