Digital Technologies and Construction Planning

The construction industry is very vital as it helps provide the necessary buildings and supporting civil infrastructure. However, the problems of productivity, poor planning and poor coordination has not allowed it to maximize its full potential. The use of digitalized solutions in coordinating and planning construction activities can help resolve these challenges. Therefore, the study was aimed at investigating the digital technologies available to construction professionals during construction planning. The study utilized the data instrument of a well-structured questionnaire. A total of 110 construction professional took part in the survey research. The study showed that Microsoft Project, Primavera and Web-based Project Management System are the most used digital technologies in construction planning. Construction professionals identified the benefits of improved quality, better record keeping, and time saving benefits in the use of digital technologies for construction planning. The study showed that there was statistically significant difference in the benefits such as reduction in construction errors, increased flexibility, and access to information in real time. It recommended that construction professionals should increase investment in innovative digital solutions in order to address the challenges facing the construction industry.

Project Scheduling Analysis Using the Precedence Diagram Method (PDM) Case Study: Surabaya’s City Outer East Ring Road Construction Project (Segment 1)

The project acceleration by the Crash Program is one of the ways that is often used to make time and cost efficiency on an ongoing project. Acceleration of project completion time will affect the efficiency of equipment and labor productivity. In the case study of the Surabaya Outer East Ring Road Project Construction Segment 1, a project that has the potential to be accelerated is discussed in order to obtain efficiency values in terms of time and cost, Project acceleration by means of the Crash Program using the Precedence Diagram Method (PDM) method to determine the value of efficiency. This project uses resources, in this research the software used is Microsoft Project 2016. The research method used is to design network planning, find the critical path for each job, determine the work that has the potential to be accelerated, calculate the crash cost in additional working hours. and work shifts, calculating direct costs and indirect costs for each activity that changes due to changes in the duration of implementation, calculating the cost slope. Application of the Crash Program in the work of Asphalt Concrete Surface Layers (AC) thick 5 cm in the project will have an impact on increasing the time efficiency previously planned from 180 working days to 175 working days and efficiency with the difference in project costs of Rp. 18.313.935,8 with a ratio of 0,997 between the PDM method compared to the cost of the contract value calculated using the crashing project method.

PROJECT PLANNING PEMBANGUNAN GEDUNG ATTIC SHOWROOM SURABAYA

The Construction Project Attic Showroom Construction Surabaya has an area of 6,528 m2 located on 720 m2 of land. Was undertaken by PT. Nusa Raya Cipta Tbk with a contract price of IDR 33,000,000,000 on 391 calendar days. The purpose of this thesis is to make an alternative project planning so the project can be carried out on time, cost and quality. The project planning includes: (1) project organizational structure, (2) site layout, (3) traffic management, (4) project implementation strategies and methods, (5) quality control, (6) SHE (Safety, Health And Environment), (7) cost estimate, (8) work scheduling. The required data were of shop drawings, work plans and requirements, and work unit price of Surabaya 2019. Microsoft Excel 2016 and Microsoft Project 2016 programs were applied to plan cost and schedule. The planning results in: (1) functional organizational structure, (2) direction keet nearby the entrance, (3) one gate system, (4) bottom-up method, (5) Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) and Quality Targets, (6) use of personal protective equipment, installation of signs and risk analysis, (7) at IDR 38.348.500.000, (8) on 270 calendar days.

Rescheduling Proyek Pembangunan Jembatan Palu V Menggunakan Microsoft Project

One form of project planning is Project scheduling. Project scheduling is one of the elements of Project planning results, which can provide information on the relationship of each other activity to the entire project, the identification of relationships that must be precedence between activities, showing realistic cost and time estimates for each activity on project completion. In this research the author plans to process project work activity of the Palu V Bridge development by limiting its job stage to the quality of concrete work of FC ' 30MPa for the building over the floor plate. This type of research is analytic. Data collection in the form of secondary data such as schedule and RAB is done by requesting directly the required data to the relevant party. Then conducted initial schedule evaluation, followed by using Microsoft Project 2019 tool as processing result of the project Process Bridge Hammer V. From the results of the study it was concluded that process use Microsoft Project 2019 requiring a duration of 199 working days. While the scheduling is carried out in the field, the executor requires a duration of 366 working days and the planned scheduling of the implementing party takes 167 working days. If compared to the results of scheduling time duration with the implementation of the field and the duration of the execution planner, the results obtained by the researcher more than 167 days from the time of implementation in the field and slower 32 days from the duration of the planning time.

Studi Penjadwalan Pelaksanaan Proyek Rehabilitasi Bangunan Pelimpah (Spillway) Bendungan Pacal Kec. Temayang, Kab. Bojonegoro, Provinsi Jawa Timur Menggunakan Microsoft Project Manager 2016

A project called success when viewed from an economic perspective, the project is carried out effectively and efficiently. In other word the project is avoided from all kinds of expenses that are not excluded, so that the planned benefits can be achieved. To achieve the results of a construction project that is efficient in terms of cost, time, and labor, the writer applies the Microsoft Project Manager 2013 program to help plan, manage, and schedule which strongly supports the project administration process. This study discusses scheduling and financing use 3 alternatives which include analysis of machine productivity, duration of the project, the resources requirement, analysis of labor unit prices, draft budgetary costs, and curve plans s taking into account the implementation of the work order and material requirements of scheduling Microsoft Project Manager 2016 that produces a network in the form of a giant chart. The purpose of this final assignment is to find out which alternative is the most efficient in terms of time and cost to accelerate the duration of the project. The three alternatives provide different analysis and results which are certainly different in terms of time and cost with alternative 1 (16 months, total project costs of Rp. 116.195.725.172,89), alternative 2 (14 months, total project costs of Rp. 114.977.966.202,28), and alternative 3 additions of heavy equipment (10 months, total project costs of Rp. 120.742.705.287,18). In terms of time and cost and the weaknesses of the three alternatives, it can be concluded that the addition of heavy equipment is an alternative that is considered efficient for implementation.

It is almost impossible to ensure effective project management in various spheres of activity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine without the usage of modern information and computer technologies. The project management process can be greatly facilitated if the project team uses software tools created for this purpose. Some modern information systems, commissioned by the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, are still at different stages of the life cycle. This course of events confirms the interest in the accelerated integration of existing software tools for project management on various software platforms and their subsequent adoption.The aim of the article is to analyze the approaches to the selection of software tools for project management for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.The most widely represented packages of software tools for project management to optimize the activities of corporations are MS Project 2019, Wrike, Bitrix24, Oracle Primavera, and others. They perform almost the same set of functions, however, there are a number of differences between these tools, which allows the specialist to choose the most convenient product for him.he article is devoted to the analysis of problems of assessment of the suitability of tools of conducting projects of various scales in the process of the creation of information systems of military purpose. Examples of already implemented projects are given, the advantages and disadvantages of some basic software tools are identified and described.After analyzing the existing tools, it is proposed to use the Microsoft Project special software for projects in the military sphere. The analysis took into consideration the usability of the interface, the organization of virtual work commands, the use of video conferencing, compatibility with MS Office 365, and other useful features.

Studi Penjadwalan dan Pembiayaan Proyek Trashlog PLTA Orya Genyem Kecamatan Unurum Guay Kabupaten Jayapura Menggunakan Microsoft Project Manager 2016

Successful of a project can be seen from how economical and efficient of the project. Minimizing unnecessary expenses to achieve the profits which planned is the goal of this study. The implementation of the Microsoft Project Manager 2016 program aims to assist in scheduling and financing to achieve efficient projects in terms of cost, labor and time. The 3 alternatives used include analysis of heavy equipment productivity, project duration, labor resource requirement, analysis unit cost of work, cost budget plan and s curve. The preparation of this thesis aims to find out the efficiency of the three alternatives reviewed in terms of cost and time project worked. Which results will be different on each alternative. Alternative 1 (90 days with 8 hours/day, total project cost Rp. 7,184,379,188.80), Alternative 2 (90 days with 11 hours/day, total project cost Rp. 7,355,870,347.94) and Alternative 3 (96 days with 8 hours/day, total project cost Rp. 7,019,783,796.95). In terms of cost and time of the three alternatives, can concluded if setting the right number of days and hours of work can be an efficient alternative.

Towards decentralised job shop scheduling as a web service

This paper aims to investigate the fundamental requirements for a cloud-based scheduling service for manufacturing, notably manufacturer priority to scheduling service, resolution of schedule conflict, and error-proof data entry. A flow chart of an inference-based system for manufacturing scheduling is proposed and a prototype was designed using semantic web technologies. An adapted version of the Muth and Thompson 10 × 10 scheduling problem (MT10) was used as a case study and two manufacturing companies represented our use cases. Using Microsoft Project, levelled manufacturer operation plans were generated. Semantic rules were proposed for constraints calculation, scheduling and verification. Pellet semantic reasoner was used to apply those rules onto the case study. The results include two main findings. First, our system effectively detected conflicts when subjected to four types of disturbances. Secondly, suggestions of conflict resolutions were effective when implemented albeit they were not efficient. Consequently, our two hypotheses were accepted which gave merit for future works intended to develop scheduling as a web service. Future works will include three phases: (1) migration of our system to a graph database server, (2) a multi-agent system to automate conflict resolution and data entry, and (3) an optimisation mechanism for manufacturer prioritisation to scheduling services.

Using critical path method for a new project scheduling - the case of a new product launch in production

The assimilation process must take place in the shortest possible time and with the lowest costs. These desires are achievable through the most efficient procedures. The paper proposes a procedure for managing the assimilation process of a new product, based on the critical path method. The procedure is intended for a company producing plastic products. In the first phase there was a critical analysis of the existing procedure for assimilating a new product. In the following the study presents how the activities carried out for the assimilation of a new product were organized into a project. To implement this project it was used the Microsoft Project software. This is a tool that allows project management to use the critical path method. By applying this method, it can identify the critical activities within the project. In order to minimize the execution time of the project, the execution time of the critical activities must be reduced. The duration of an activity can be reduced by allocating additional resources. Using the Microsoft Project software in the analyzed case, provides to decision makers information that allows them to make decisions that will reduce the duration of the assimilation process of a new product.

STRATEGI PERCEPATAN PROYEK MENGGUNAKAN METODE CRASH PROGRAM (Studi Kasus : Program Kerja Masa Pengeringan Proyek Rehabilitasi Saluran Induk Klambu Kiri Tahun 2017)

Based on the initial plan from the contract of the Rehabilitation Klambu Kiri’s Project, main channel's work was carried out continously by an open and closed system using the kistdam method. However by the time of execution work, the stakeholders wanted the work in the main channel to be carried out based on cropping pattern, where there a drying period and a drainage period. In this case, flow area and bottom structure of the channel can only be worked during the drying period lasting three months. To be able to determine the impact of these change, a duration calculation is carried out from project's data which are internal's BQ, initial plan's resources, and the relations between activities using Microsoft Project on the flow section structure which be worked in drying period of 2017. The normal duration obtained from analysis is 203 days. It was exceeded time of drying period and possibly could have an impact on the overall project completion schedule resulting in delays, defaults and even termination of contracts. Therefore, it is necessary to have an accelerate strategy of the work on the flow section structure to be completed within a predetermined time. In this study, the acceleration strategy was carried out using crashing analysis in the critical activities from normal duration using Microsoft Project. The crashing method was carried out in stages from the crashing simulation of 30 days, 60 days, to 120 days so that obtained the duration of acceleration was 83 days. The cost component of acceleration is calculated by choosing the lowest cost from the alternatives of increasing work hours (overtime) or by adding resources. From the simulation results, the crash cost to complete the acceleration work is Rp. 1.298.307.591,- or about 2,05% of direct cost, so the efficiency is Rp. 9.692.409,- from normal duration

Generalized Resource-Constrained Critical Path Method to Improve Sustainability in Construction Project Scheduling

Delays by limited supply of resources are common in many construction projects and may cause serious monetary disputes between project participants. Since the dispute resolution may require unnecessary additional time and cost, preventing delays in advance is an important goal in sustainable construction project management. To prevent delays, a feasible plan must be implemented, which reflects limited resources and provides reliable activity information. For this purpose, this study proposes a generalized resource-constrained critical path method (eRCPM). It consists of three steps to identify resource-dependent activity relationships (resource links) based on the result of resource-constrained scheduling (RCS) under multiple resource constraints. Compared to the existing resource-constrained critical path methods, the eRCPM has the advantage of identifying resource links irrespective of the applied RCS technique because it is based on the result rather than the RCS process. Further, this study presents a Microsoft (MS) Excel-based half-automated prototype system that is linked using file export and import functions to both P6 and MS Project software packages. The detailed process of the eRCPM algorithm and the operation process of the prototype system are described using an example schedule. Through a case study, it was demonstrated that eRCPM appropriately identifies the necessary resource links and provides reliable total floats.

ANALYSIS OF PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE USING MICROSOFT PROJECT (Case Study: Trenggalek City Square Area)

A project implementation schedule can be said to be successful if the implementation process can be completed in accordance with the planned time. Planning a good project implementation schedule must be supported by good project control. Because what happens in the field is not necessarily in accordance with what has been planned. By analyzing the cost and end time of project completion, it can provide detailed project performance schedule information. In this study, the analysis of the project implementation schedule is done manually, which is to make the S curve and use the Microsoft Project 2019 program. The method used is to enter the data related to the analysis into the program, then this Microsoft project will calculate automatically according to the formulas. calculation formula that has been made, so that the calculation of the project implementation schedule analysis will be faster and more accurate. The results of the cost analysis following the price of the Trenggalek district work unit for the renovation of the City Square is IDR. 6,078,136,530. Estimated schedule in planning the S schedule time curve with Microsoft Project 2019, there is a time difference of scheduling 39 calendar days or a difference of 1 month more that can save time and costs of implementing work. At the planning stage of scheduling with an S curve of 20 weeks or 140 days, using Microsoft Project 2019, the results obtained 101 days of project completion time. Optimization of the construction project in complex geomechanical conditions

The purpose of the study is to optimize the construction project of a residential complex. The paper considers the mechanism for optimizing the construction of a residential building and a quarterly road network. The study was carried out in several stages and includes the breakdown of the complex into specialized types of work, the preparation of matrices of work volumes, the calculation of construction duration, the calculation of methods for organizing work in different order, and the calculation of the estimated cost of objects. The calculation and selection of the work organization method was carried out by the method of continuous use of resources, continuous development of work fronts and the critical path method. Next, statistical modeling of the deviation of the project duration from the planned value was performed in the Microsoft Project software package. The first step was to perform a regression analysis. The second step is a correlation analysis, which allowed us to determine the degree of reliability of the project. The third step is to analyze the effectiveness of the project. In conclusion, a conclusion is made regarding the relevance of the unified estimated standards for this project.

Penentuan Jumlah Tenaga Kerja Yang Optimal

Abstract— Construction projects are a series of activities that have a time at the beginning and end time with the aim of realizing the idea into a physical form or building. Labor is one of the important resources, because often the supply is limited, both because of quality and other things. With a good workforce management impact on the completion of construction projects. But in the construction phase, contractors often experience many problems related to the construction project's labor allocation. This study uses the help of Microsoft Project 2007 application to create a network of Precedence Method Method (PDM) methods, then generate a bart chart for the preparation of a project implementation schedule or S schedule (time schedule) so that a histogram can be obtained after a leveling process is needed. The results of data analysis with a case study of the Bank Mandiri Development Project Palembang Office Building, it can be concluded leveling shows that the workforce needs are far less than previously planned. The number of planner workforce based on planner consultant data and reports is 8681 people and from the research results based on data processing the leveling process is only 7754 people. Use of Software Engineering on the Project Implementation Schedule of Lamreung Limpok Bridge

The development of technology is growing along with the time. It affects on development of construction management which several application programs are offered to facilitate construction management in term of implementing schedule and project data. The application program had facilitated the management to entry project data, manage project activities, project reports and control of project activities on lamreung limpok bridge, Lamgapang, Aceh besar, Aceh, Indonesia. The bridge incurred the expense of Rp.27.179.501.000.00 which it was supported by Aceh government budget 2018. The bridge connected the area of ulee kareng and limpok which the duration of project was 141 working days. This project consisted of 8 parameters in the activity that is the general work, drainage, work relate to land, aggregate pavement, asphalt pavement, structure, finishig, and maintenance. The issue of this study was the reach of project implementation schedule. This study will redesign the project schedule with the use of Microsoft Project 2013, The result showed that the duration of project was 122 working. Furthermore, the Gantt Chartand PDM had referred to the standard.

Strategic Planning of Offshore Wind Farms in Greece

In the present article, a new methodological framework for the efficient and sustainable exploitation of offshore wind potential was developed. The proposed integrated strategic plan was implemented for the first time at national spatial planning scale in Greece. The methodological approach is performed through geographical information systems (GIS) and Microsoft Project Server Software and includes five distinct stages: (i) definition of vision/mission, (ii) identification of appropriate areas for offshore wind farms’ (OWFs) siting, (iii) determination of the OWFs’ layout, (iv) calculation of the OWFs’ (projects) total investment cost and, finally, (v) portfolio analysis. The final outcome of the proposed strategic planning is the prioritization of the proposed sixteen offshore wind projects based on their strategic value, as well as the estimation of the overall investment cost of the entire portfolio. High economic, socio-political and environmental benefits could be achieved through the implementation of only 60% of the total investment capital of the proposed strategic plan.

A conceptual approach to graphically compare construction schedules

Purpose This paper aims to present a graphical comparison method for construction schedules, which illustrates the differences for each individual activity. The method overlays the observed differences on a bar chart creating a representation of whether each activity is ahead, on or behind schedule at a given date. Design/methodology/approach The method is implemented using a Microsoft Project add-in (plug-in). The paper demonstrates the method and its potential uses with three illustration cases: a time impact analysis, an alternative analysis for the selection of subcontractors and a multi-baseline analysis of an as-built schedule. Findings The cases included in the paper show that the proposed method uses a simplified and familiar attribute comparison for each activity in a schedule. The method affords flexibility in presenting differences between schedules such as the start/finish dates or duration. As the method does not rely on a specific software application or analysis method, it can be implement to different software applications as well as performance or delay analysis techniques. The method also makes it possible to present multiple and selective baseline comparisons overlaid on an updated or as-built schedule. Originality/value The method graphically presents a comparison of start dates, durations and finish dates for each activity that can be integrated with any schedule. The method can be used for forensic analysis as well as project control measures during construction. As the method does not rely on any specific performance or delay calculation method, it can be applied to any forensic analysis technique and delay analysis.

Quality management of automated information systems in IT projects

Quality and reliability of systems development and their further realisation, competent application of standards and software products are for IT-specialist standards and software products are for an IT-specialist to be an important factor in the successful implementation of a management solution. The article considers, on the example of use of quality standards of systems and use of methods and means of Microsoft Project software, the implementation of the study on the example of company engaged in the extraction and transportation of natural gas, in which, today, there is a large fleet of automobile and special equipment and departmental gas stations. Within the article the realisation of only one research task is considered: development of data processing algorithm at branches. The project successfully passed all the necessary tests, after which an act of acceptance of integrated systems into operation was drawn up.

Comparison and Assessment of Using Primavera and Microsoft Project in Construction Projects in Erbil City

Planning and scheduling has an important role in construction projects because of the increasing complexities in the field of project management comprises, pre-construction planning in order to schedule the activities sequence, defining labor tasks, construction methods and assigning the resources and responsibilities. For planning and scheduling work a huge amount of paperwork is required, which makes the construction management task more complicated. This paper provides a comparison study to currently available project management tools and assessing Primavera and Microsoft project, to identify the most popular planning project tools. Consequently, to developed criteria to compare primavera with Microsoft project, and to investigate the current situation of using Primavera and Microsoft project in Erbil governorate. The result of the analysis the questionnaire data revealed that 78% of respondents were reluctant to use Primavera and Microsoft project in construction projects in Erbil governorate. Consequently, the most of respondents preferred to use Excel Microsoft for managing project because of its availability and easy in using, on other hand, the respondent’s knowledge regarding the most advantages program, the study revealed that 76% of the respondents they do not know which program is best one and the most of respondents suffer from lack of experience and lack of training opportunity to tackle and learning primavera and Microsoft project. Furthermore, most of the respondents preferred using the traditional process rather than software to schedule by hand instead of using Primavera and Microsoft project.
