Integration of AHP and Modified VIKOR Method to Select the Optimum Destination Route

One common approach to rating options is group decision making using many criteria. Here, we use the same criteria to evaluate each option. Sometimes, decision makers are faced with some situations where they have to choose from a set of alternatives that have several different criteria. Thus, the decision maker cannot use a common method. Therefore, in this research, a modification to a method is carried out. To address the issue of developing alternate routes to Medan City's historical tourism attractions, the AHP and VIKOR approaches have been suggested. When considering options with both specific and broad requirements, this study adapts the VIKOR technique to find a workable solution. In order to demonstrate the suggested model's use and evaluate the efficacy of this approach change, this study offers numerical examples based on case studies. The findings demonstrate that the revised approach is both practical and efficient.

Optimization and ranking of dental restorative composites by ENTROPY‐VIKOR and VIKOR‐MATLAB

AbstractResin‐based composites, now the most prevalent material for restorative dental treatments, are available in a multitude of types. Next‐generation composites are designed to be bio interactive, solving issues such as secondary caries and mechanical failures, thus prolonging the restoration lifespan. To facilitate the discrimination of the bio interactive composite's performance and the identification of the optimal composition, we tested the VIKOR method for multi‐criteria decision‐making analysis. This study encompassed 12 performance parameters and 5 experimental dental composites. We measured density, void content, water sorption, water solubility, polymerization shrinkage, depth of cure, degree of conversion, hardness, compressive strength, and surface roughness as performance parameters, and we tested a conventional BisGMA‐TEGDMA resin blend filled with yttria‐stabilized zirconia (20 wt.%) and tricalcium phosphate. The alignment between computational methods and MATLAB‐based calculations validated the robustness of the assessment, verifying the significance of the conclusions drawn from this comprehensive analysis. Both methods (ENTROPY‐VIKOR and VIKOR‐MATLAB) ranked TZC0 as the top composite. This research provided a comprehensive understanding of the complex relationship between material composition, performance attributes, and optimization strategies in dental restorative composites, offering valuable insights for future advancements in restorative dentistry.

Strategy of the cyber-physical system for the small business enterprise guaranteed functioning with the digital twin support

The article presents a strategy of the cyber-physical system guaranteed functioning for a small business enterprise (SBE), which is ensured by maintaining the digital twin and is due to its extremely high relevance in modern conditions. Business processes are linked to Industry 4.0 competencies. One of the innovations it implements is Digital Twin, a comprehensive facility support tool. Digital twin allows for tracking and effectively managing the entire cycle of an infrastructure project, from planning, procurement, and production to commissioning and maintenance of the facility. PEST, SWOT, SAW, TOPSIS, and VIKOR methods are used to build a strategy.

Soil ecological risk assessment of ten industrial areas in China based on the TRIAD and VIKOR methods

The TRIAD approach is widely used as a scientific methodology available to deal with site-specific contamination scenarios. In this study, a soil environmental risk assessments (SERA) of ten industrial sites in China was conducted by ranking risks across multiple sites based on the TRIAD method, and attempted to provide an alternative method for risk ranking, the VIKOR method, when reference screening values for assessing individual indicators are unavailable. The VIKOR method was developed to address ranking and selection problems in multi-criteria decision-making, particularly in complex decision environments. The present assessments analyzed 33 chemical analysis indicators, 14 ecotoxicological indicators, and 5 ecological indicators related to soil microbial diversity, subsequently compared and discuss the differences in risk ranking results obtained using the two methods. The results of the TRIAD approach showed that six sites (including F, G, E, B, J and I) were ranked high in the risk order, which were in the moderate-risk range (Integrated risk value, 0.5–0.75). While the results of the VIKOR method showed that four sites (including F, G, H, and E) were ranked high in the risk order, followed by another four sites (including D, A, B, and C). Although there were differences in the assessment results, both methods consistently identified three sites (including F, G, and E) with relatively higher risks. The results indicated that when the TRIAD method is not applicable in special cases, the VIKOR comprehensive evaluation can be used to infer the relative ecological risk of the assessed site.

Multi-objective optimization study of airfoil fin printed circuit heat exchanger with tip gap based on machine learning

The printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE), a compact and highly efficient device, is capable of operating effectively under demanding conditions, which makes it ideal for supercritical CO2 Brayton cycles. In this study, we present a novel airfoil fin PCHE with tip gap, and conduct multi-objective optimization on the tip gap and arrangement of airfoil fins based on the analysis of the supercritical CO2 flow and heat transfer characteristics. We conduct a parameter design using Design of Experiment to examine the impact of the dimensionless design parameters, including the horizontal number (ζh), staggered number (ζs), vertical number (ζv), and gap number (ζg). To forecast the flow and heat transfer performance, we utilize a neural network model called Particle Swarm Optimization-Back Propagation (PSO-BP). We employ the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II to obtain the Pareto optimal front by utilizing ζh, ζs, ζv, and ζg as variables for optimization, and the volumetric heat transfer coefficient (hv) and Fanning friction factor (f) as objectives for optimization. The results find that the utilization of tip gap can enhance heat transfer while reducing flow resistance. The PSO-BPNN model exhibits higher prediction accuracy and excellent generalization ability compared with traditional BPNN model. The VIKOR and TOPSIS methods identify compromise schemes with excellent thermal-hydraulic performance. The mechanism of heat transfer enhancement can be elucidated using the principle of field synergy.

Optimizing the Electrical Discharge Machining Process Parameters of the Nimonic C263 Superalloy: A Sustainable Approach

Engineers continue to be concerned about electrical discharge-machined components’ high energy consumption, machining debris, and poor dimensional precision. The aim of this research is to propose a hybrid neuro-genetic approach to improve the machinability of the electrical discharge machining (EDM) of the Nimonic C263 superalloy. This approach focuses on reducing the energy consumption and negative environmental impacts. The material removal rate (MRR), electrode wear ratio (EWR), specific energy consumption (SEC), surface roughness (Ra), machining debris (db), and circularity (C) are examined as a function of machining parameters such as the voltage (V), pulse on time (Ton), current (I), duty factor (τ), and electrode type. By employing the VIKOR method, all the responses are transformed into a distinctive VIKOR index (VI). Neuro-genetic methods (a hybrid VIKOR-based ANN-GA) can further enhance the best possible result from the VIKOR index. During this step, the hybrid technique (VIKOR-based ANN-GA) is used to estimate an overall improvement of 9.87% in the response, and an experiment is conducted to confirm this condition of optimal machining. This work is competent enough to provide aeroengineers with an energy-efficient, satisfying workplace by lowering the machining costs and increasing productivity.

Project management using the developed AHP–VIKOR method with the fuzzy approach

ABSTRACT There are many factors to consider when designing a sewerage pumping station (SPS), such as sizing the system, pump type, cooperation between pumps, SPS elevation, wastewater discharge location, system venting, correct number of inflows into the pumping station (PS) reservoir, and chemical resistance of the installations. In this study, we developed a multi-criteria-decision-making (MCDM) fuzzy AHP–VIKOR method with the aim to contribute to the improvement and development of MCDM methods. By combining and improving the existing AHP and VIKOR methods with the application of fuzzy logic theory, a novel fuzzy AHP–VIKOR method is for easier and clearer obtaining of optimal solutions. The new method was applied to obtain the findings in the analysis of four complex design solutions for canalisation, treatment, and pumping of atmospheric wastewater in the SPS in Makiš, an urban neighbourhood of Belgrade in Serbia. The analysis was carried out in relation to the stability of the solution by way of considering the use of different methods of MCDM optimisation, while taking into account ways of channelling, treatment, and evacuation of wastewater.

Application of the VIKOR method for solving problems in logistics

Abstract When companies make strategic decisions, responsible persons must take into account as many influential parameters as possible so that the solution to the given problem is the most optimal, that is, they make the most appropriate decision. Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) can find a very large application for solving such very complex and important issues, where it is of particular importance that the company makes the most appropriate decision. Making the optimal decision for a given problem directly affects the financial performance of a given company. In this paper, the VIKOR method will be applied, which until now has not been used to solve problems related to the choice of warehouse location, but is very often and very successfully used to solve various complex problems when applying multi-criteria decision making (MCDM). The purpose of this paper is to show that the VIKOR method can be successfully applied to select the optimal warehouse location for a company that has subsidiaries in multiple locations.

Rubber plant is one of the plantation commodities that has an important role in economic activities in Indonesia. The need for rubber seeds continues to increase in line with the increase in the area of ​​smallholder rubber plantations and the government. Quality seeds are a community need in developing rubber plantations in Indonesia from year to year. The first step to get good rubber seeds is that rubber farmers need to use quality rubber seed planting material and are able to produce high latex. Given the very importance of seeds in determining quality rubber repair. With a Decision Support System with the vikor method to build a system that has the ability to be able to assist farmers in choosing superior rubber tree seeds with a system that is able to provide problem solving skills and communication skills for problems with semi-structured and unstructured conditions. This study uses the vikor method because this method is suitable for use in most real-time problems such as making decisions to find quality rubber tree seeds so that this research can be useful for rubber tree farmers in improving the quality of superior seeds.

Durability evaluation and lifetime prediction of recycled coarse aggregate self-compacting concrete after freeze-thaw and sulfate erosion coupling

This paper aims to study the durability of recycled coarse aggregate self-compacting concrete (RCASCC) after being subjected to freeze-thaw and sulfate coupling. The durability comprehensive evaluation index of RCASCC based on the entropy weight method was defined, and the variation law of the durability comprehensive evaluation index concerning RCA substitution rate, freeze-thaw environment, and coupling frequency was obtained. GM (1, 1) model based on grey system theory was used to evaluate the durability of RCASCC under the coupling effects of freeze-thaw and sulfate attack. The results show that there are some differences in the accuracy of the four GM (1, 1) models. It is recommended that the EGM model can be used to predict the durability of the RCASCC under the coupled effects of freeze-thaw and sulfate erosion. Moreover, the working life of RCASCC under the coupling effects in the outdoor environments of northeast, north, and northwest China was calculated, when the comprehensive evaluation index of durability decreases to 75% as the failure criterion. A multi-criteria analysis employing TOPSIS and VIKOR methods was conducted to evaluate the durability of RCASCC under these coupling effects. A multi criteria analysis was conducted on the durability of RCASCC under the coupling effects of freeze-thaw and sulfate erosion using TOPSIS and VIKOR methods. Under these two rankings, the splitting tensile strength is the index that changes the most after coupling effects, while the compressive strength changes relatively little. The importance of dynamic elastic modulus and weight is different due to different materials and evaluation methods. RC100-H typically exhibits the largest variation, while NC-H and RC50-NM typically exhibit smaller variations.

A Hybrid Multi-Attribute Decision-Making Approach Considering Correlations Among Indicators

Considering the fuzzy and uncertainty of the evaluation information of the evaluation object, the type of indicators are expanded into five types of mixed evaluation information, namely, exact number, interval number, triangular fuzzy number, hesitant fuzzy number, and probabilistic linguistic term sets, and different types of evaluation information are adopted according to the different characteristics and types of indicators, respectively. When the evaluation information is hybrid information, the generalized Shapley function based on fuzzy measurement is used to analyze the interaction between indicators and determine the weights of indicators, considering that the interaction between indicators is more complicated. In view of the fact that the conversion of mixed information into the same kind of information will lead to the problem of complicated calculation and missing information, the VIKOR method is used to comprehensively evaluate the evaluation objects and select the best ones. Finally, the validity and feasibility of the proposed method is verified by taking the assessment of data literacy level and competence of teachers in a university in a western province of China as an example.

Resilience evaluation research on coping with rainstorm inundation under the perspective of full cycle: A case study of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region

With the development of global warming and urbanization, the risk of cities being affected by rainstorms is increasing and the safety of lives and properties of residents as well as the sustainable development of the urban economy and society, are facing crucial threats. As a giant complex system, the interior of a city is highly complex and interconnected. The concept of urban resilience has become an effective way of guiding cities to cope with rainstorm inundation perturbations from the perspective of the wholeness of a system. We aimed to integrate the time dimension into the study of resilience in response to rainstorm inundation to gain a deeper understanding of the process of rainstorm inundation generation and development as well as the resilience mechanism in this process. In this study, based on the basic principles of urban resilience and the occurrence and evolution mechanisms of rainstorm inundation, we propose a novel resilience evaluation method to cope with rainstorm inundation from the perspective of the entire cycle. The full-cycle process from ``rainstorm event'' to ``inundation disaster'' is divided into four phases: rainstorm incubation, rainstorm occurrence, inundation persistence, and inundation recession phases and the resilience objectives of each phase are proposed to form a regional resilience indicator set for coping with rainstorm inundation. The Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform was used to identify the spatial and temporal patterns of regional rainstorm inundation, identify the contributing indicators of specific regional rainstorm inundation, combine hierarchical analysis and expert decision analysis to determine the weight of each indicator, and build a regional resilience evaluation model to cope with rainstorm inundation. On this basis, we conducted regional resilience evaluation and type spectrum research to cope with rainstorm inundation, identify the resilience index of the research unit based on the VIKOR method, identify the regional resilience pattern under the full-cycle perspective, divide the resilience types, generate the resilience zoning map and resilience obstacle indicators, and provide guidance on the timeline for improving resilience in the region.

Optimizing Machine Selection and Cost of Quality: A Comprehensive Approach for Enhanced Industrial Efficiency and Economic Growth

Abstract: In today's modern industrial economy, selecting suitable machinery and efficiently managing quality costs are critical for achieving sustainable growth and competitiveness. This research paper presents a comprehensive approach to optimizing machine selection and cost of quality (COQ) within industrial operations. The study commences by delineating the criteria for machine selection and determining their respective weights using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Subsequently, the VIKOR method is applied to select the most suitable machine based on the established criteria and weights. Moreover, the paper explores the concept of COQ, underscoring its importance as a performance measurement tool for organizations. The research investigates various strategies for minimizing quality-related expenses and maximizing benefits, including defect prevention, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives. A case study analysis, focusing on the selection between mechanical cutting CNC machines and laser cutting CNC machines, provides practical insights into the implementation of the proposed methodologies. Real data analysis of cost and quality metrics, coupled with formula-based calculations, offers valuable insights into the decision-making process. The research underscores the significance of market analysis and leveraging modern technology trends to inform machine selection decisions. Overall, the findings contribute to enhancing industrial efficiency and promoting economic growth by facilitating informed decision-making in machine selection and COQ management

An approach for assessing the functional vulnerabilities criticality of CPS components

Timely identification of critical security flaws in a cyber-physical system makes identifying risks and potential threats possible. To address this issue, threat models are created to better understand potential vulnerabilities that must be considered to ensure system reliability. Selecting the optimal solution for assessing the functional vulnerabilities criticality of cyber-physical system components is a complex process since all vulnerabilities must be identified, classified, and quantified according to a unified approach as part of the cybersecurity process. An effective tool for cyber-physical systems analysis is the Bayesian attack graph. Each path in the graph represents a sequence of attacks that an attacker can use to achieve a specific goal, such as gaining access to sensitive data or controlling a system. This paper proposes a quantitative method for assessing the vulnerability criticality of cyber-physical system components based on the Promethee II multi-criteria decision-making method. It allows ranking and identification of the system's most vulnerable components. The proposed approach is evaluated using a threat model and three scenarios of cyberattacks on a cyber-physical system. Comparison with TOPSIS, VIKOR, and ELECTRE methods proves the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The proposed approach can help technical specialists make more reasoned decisions when ranking critical vulnerabilities of cyber-physical system components to provide security measures and prevent cyberattacks.

Selection of an economics-energy-environment scheduling strategy for a community virtual power plant considering decision-makers’ risk attitudes based on improved information gap decision theory

To address the impact of decision-makers' risk attitudes (DMRA) and uncertainties on dispatch strategy in community integrated energy systems, a multi-objective dispatch model of a community virtual power plant (CVPP) is proposed. Firstly, a novel CVPP model that considers DMRA and a multi-objective satisfaction model of economics-energy-environment are built. Secondly, the information gap decision theory (IGDT) model is improved by considering uncertainties of renewable energy, loads, and DMRA. Thirdly, the VIKOR method is improved by using the weights from multiple objective functions derived by combining the entropy weight and full consistency method. And the conservative and risky strategy selection methods in the VIKOR method are used to select the optimal strategy from the obtained multi-objective Pareto solution set that satisfies decision-makers with risk preferences. Thus, the impact of DMRA on optimal strategy selection is fully described. Finally, the proposed model's effectiveness is validated using a multi-scenario example of a residential area. The results indicate that: 1) The novel CVPP provides realistic scheduling strategies based on the DMRA. 2) After implementing demand response, the resident cost and net carbon emissions are reduced by 9 % and 91 %, respectively. Energy supplier profit and renewable energy utilization rate are increased. The constructed IGDT model also improves multiple objectives. 3) The improved IGDT model's uncertainty and deviation factors allow for diverse scheduling strategies. Simultaneously, the improved VIKOR method provides a new method for decision-makers to select strategies. The model is a guide for selecting scheduling strategies and a way of encouraging the usage of renewable energy.

Evaluation of Urban Quality Improvement Based on the MABAC Method and VIKOR Method: A Case Study of Shandong Province, China

In the current stage of urbanization in China, urban construction has gradually shifted from incremental construction dominated by real estate to stock transformation based on improving urban quality. The evaluation of urban renewal projects is crucial for decision-making and resource allocation. However, there is no consensus on the evaluation indicators and methods. This study evaluates the current status of urban quality using the MABAC method based on numerical indicators. It evaluates the improvement of urban quality using the VIKOR method based on public satisfaction indicators. It is found that the comprehensive weights and subjective weights of the five first-level indicators in the evaluation index system of urban quality improvement in Shandong Province, namely blue–green space improvement, air cleanliness improvement, road traffic improvement, life service improvement, and governance capacity improvement, are quite different. The weight distribution of these indicators needs to be adjusted and optimized, especially for improving living services, as well as secondary indicators such as black and odorous water treatment, urban clean heating, the number of public vehicles per 10,000 people in the city, the 15 min living circle, the renovation of old residential areas, and the construction of urban intelligent management platforms. Based on the comprehensive evaluation results, an attempt is made to propose a more scientific evaluation index system, providing valuable references for urban renewal management.

Assessing the Impact of Healthcare 4.0 Technologies on Healthcare Supply Chain Management: A Multi-Criteria Evaluation Framework

Background: Healthcare 4.0 has transformed supply chain management in the healthcare sector, but there is a lack of comprehensive frameworks to evaluate the impact of Healthcare 4.0 technologies on sector operations, particularly in developing countries. Methods: This study introduces a multi-criteria framework that synergically combines the techno-economic implications of Healthcare 4.0 technologies to improve healthcare supply chain management. The proposed approach innovatively integrates fuzzy VIKOR and Entropy methods to handle data vagueness and uncertainty, using data collected from healthcare supply chain specialists in Lagos, Nigeria. Results: The developed framework identifies the most and least critical technical and economic parameters for Healthcare 4.0 implementation in healthcare supply chain management. It also determines the suitability of different Healthcare 4.0 technologies for supply chain management in the healthcare sector. Conclusions: The main innovation of this study lies in the development of a comprehensive and context-specific framework for evaluating Healthcare 4.0 technologies in healthcare supply chains. The framework offers a new perspective on technology evaluation and provides practical insights for decision-makers. The findings contribute to advancing knowledge and practice in this field, promoting the proper adoption of Healthcare 4.0 technologies in healthcare, particularly in developing countries.

Assessment and Ranking Ecological and Water Resources of Climate Change under Fuzzy Decision Making Model

This paper suggested a decision-making model for evaluating and raking the ecological and water resources under climate change. The environmental and water resources have different criteria, so multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) is used to deal with conflict criteria. The MCDM methodology integrated with the fuzzy sets to deal with uncertainty and vague information. The weights of the requirements are computed by the average method. The VIKOR method is used to rank the alternatives. This study used 11 criteria and 10 alternatives. The results show that alternative 10 is the best and alternative 2 is the worst. The sensitivity analysis was conducted in two parts; in the first part, the criteria weights are changed into 12 cases, and then the rank of alternatives is computed to show the stability of the results. The value of v in the VIKOR method is changed in the second part, and then the rank of alternatives is computed. The results show that the rank of other options is stable in different cases.
