IMPROVING CHILDREN'S VISUAL SPATIAL INTELLIGENCE THROUGH DRAWING AT BALI STREET MUMS AND KIDS PROJECT FOUNDATION, DENPASAR

Presently, multiple educational options exist for both primary school and higher education. The entire education system is designed to assist students in cultivating a range of abilities or intelligences inherent in each individual, encompassing mental and physical aspects. This concept is usually referred to as "Multiple Intelligences." Spatial visual intelligence is a form of intelligence that can visualize objects and possesses cognitive benefits in processing information through mental imagery. The parenting style employed by parents also influences children's intellectual ability. Based on interviews with foundation managers, it has been seen that due to online learning, youngsters affiliated with the foundation end up reverting to life on the streets, resorting to begging. Before the COVID-19 outbreak, the charity organized various programs and training sessions to enhance street children's skills. Several measures are implemented to diminish the inclination of street children to return to the streets. Nevertheless, given the prevailing circumstances, these activities have significantly reduced, resulting in children reverting to the streets as beggars, often with the consent of their parents. The foundation management anticipates providing training programs to cultivate children's intelligence, encompassing cognitive and emotional aspects. Furthermore, the foundation management seeks to provide parental education to parents of these youngsters. A service program was implemented to address these issues. It involved providing parenting education and teaching children how to draw to enhance their visual-spatial intelligence. The practice yielded a 60.4% increase in parents' knowledge and improved children's drawing skills. All participants attended this activity without exception. Therefore, this service program action was successful.

Humanizing Higher Education via Digital Wellbeing with Spiritual Construct

The field of digital wellbeing is gaining importance in higher education because of the global push for digital transformation in this sector. While most research has focused on mental, physical, social, and emotional aspects of digital wellbeing in higher education, there has been little exploration of the spiritual dimension. This paper aims to address this gap by discussing the significance of spiritual wellbeing and its role in promoting digital wellbeing in higher education. The paper emphasizes the importance of incorporating spiritual wellbeing in research and educational practices to achieve sustainable development. In conclusion, incorporating spiritual wellbeing as an indicator of digital wellbeing in higher education can benefit students and promote a holistic approach to wellbeing.

Religious education seeks to instill a religious culture and spiritual awareness, while aesthetic education concentrates on nurturing an appreciation for beauty. Technological and vocational education facilitates adaptation to a dynamic society, and physical education plays a fundamental role in fostering holistic development by achieving a balance between the physical and mental aspects of an individual. Physical activities are regarded as vital components of everyday life, representing a comprehensive process of optimizing, evolving, and expressing the human essence.

Profile of Schoolchildren with Different Nutritional Status After Social Isolation: Sedentary Behavior, Aerobic Fitness, Secretory Immunoglobulin-A, and Anxiety Symptoms

ABSTRACT Background The COVID-19 pandemic imposed social isolation measures, which impacted the child population, especially regarding physical and mental health aspects. Purpose The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between sedentary behavior, cardiorespiratory fitness, immunoglobulin -A secretion, and anxiety symptoms in 267 children aged 6–11 years, eutrophic or overweight. Methods Sedentary behavior was evaluated by the time of exposure to screens. Cardiorespiratory fitness was assessed using the 6-minute run/walk test and immunoglobulin-A by salivary samples. Anxiety symptoms were reported by the SCAS-version for parents. Results It was observed that after a period of confinement, overweight in children had a negative impact on cardiorespiratory performance and sedentary behavior. Differences were also observed in the concentration and secretion rate of SIgA in the overweight group compared to the normal weight group. Discussion The return to face-to-face classes brought a high proportion of overweight students, who showed lower aerobic performance. Considering sedentary behavior, all groups presented values greater than 2 hours of daily exposure to screens. Translation to Health Education Practice Special attention is needed from health professionals and teachers in relation to reducing sedentary behavior and improving cardiorespiratory fitness in schoolchildren.

Exploring the Molecular Docking Interactions between the Polyherbal Formulation Ibadhychooranam and Human Aldose Reductase Enzyme as a Novel Approach for Investigating its Potential Efficacy in Management of Cataract

Background: Kannir sirandha urupillai... which means no organ is better than eye. Eye health and treatment have held significant importance in the Siddha system of medicine since ancient times, emphasizing the holistic approach to well-being encompassing physical, mental, and spiritual aspects. Eye disease is classified into 96 types and their ethology, treatment method, preventive measures all are explained in many of the Siddha literature. Among them cataract is one of the leading cause of blindness which is characterised by clouding of eye’s natural lens, leading to blurry, foggy or flimy vision. This paper will elaborates about the docking analysis of poly herbal formulation Ibadhy chooranam against Human aldose reductase enzyme for cataract.  Aim & Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the potential efficacy of the polyherbal formulation IbadhyChooranam in preventing or treating cataracts through molecular docking analysis of its interactions with the human aldose reductase enzyme.  Methodology: Docking simulations were conducted for the extracted phytoconstituents of IbadhyChooranam against the Human Aldose Reductase Enzyme. AutoDock tools were utilized to incorporate hydrogen atoms, Coleman united atom type charges, and solvation parameters. The docking process employed the Lamarckian genetic algorithm along with the Solis & Wets Local Search method to simulate ligand-receptor interactions.  Result: The current study revealed that phytochemicals present in IbadhyChooranam, including Nerolidol, Ellagic acid, Phyllanthin, Costunolide, Embelin, Cyperolone, Zingiberene, Piperic acid, Piperine, and Lupeol, exhibited between 6 to 9 significant interactions with residual amino acids in the aldose reductase enzyme. In comparison, the standard drug Epalrestat demonstrated 8 viable interactions with the residual amino acids of the aldose reductase enzyme.  Conclusion: According to the computational analysis findings, it can be inferred that the bioactive compounds present in IbadhyChooranam exhibit notable binding affinity towards the target aldose reductase enzyme. Ibadhy chooranam inhibit the function of aldose reductase enzyme which delay the sorbitol accumulation and subsequent cataract development. Through this study, it was also justified that the Ibadhy chooranam possess significant anti-cataract activity.

Supporting Well-Being: Exploring the Value of a Digital Coach for Older Adults in the Transition from Work to Retirement.

Supporting older adults' health and well-being in the transition from work to retirement requires a holistic perspective and needs to address physical, mental, and social aspects of life. In a field study, applying a mixed-methods approach, we investigated to what extent the prototype of a digital coach can support older adults in this sensitive phase. We aim at answering the central research question: How can a digital coach support older adults in the transition from work to retirement to establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle? Overall, 32 participants from Austria and Belgium took part in an eight-week trial. App-based interventions in different domains (physical, mental, social) were provided and aimed at motivating the target group to become and/or stay active. The study shows that the digital coach has potential to support health and well-being on various levels. In particular, the mental activities proofed valuable and supported older adults' well-being.

Ecolinguistic components of the Arctic literary image in Vasily Matonin’s travelogue Kochevoy dnevnik

This article explores key ecolinguistic components forming the literary image of the modern Arctic in V. N. Matonin’s travelogue Kochevoy dnevnik (“Nomadic Diary”). Nowadays, a significant part of the scientific literary works covers the Arctic image of the past, from the very beginning of the circumpolar region development to its active transformation during the 20th c. The modern study of the Arctic image is not the same as the study of the modern image of the Arctic presented in this article. All above determines the relevance of the work. The research material includes the Arctic travelogue Kochevoy dnevnik by Vasily Nikolaevich Matonin. This book describes the author’s journey through three regions belonging to the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation in 2012–2013. The contextual analysis applied in the article aims to systematically identify and describe several contexts of the phenomena studied. This study uses the ecolinguistic approach connecting some individual components of the space representation into a complex ecosystem. The use of ecolinguistic frameworks to examine the formation of the modern Arctic literary image determines the scientific novelty of this article. This work covers the structural and functional features of travelogue as a literary genre (such as composition, author’s quasi-socialization in a new reality, relaying of the subjective space image, author’s self-reflection, manifesting importance of language as an essential element forming a connection between man, society and nature); defines the concept of the “Arctic literary image” as a combination of physical, symbolic and mathematical space of different multilingual multicultural circumpolar territories; and analyses some linguistic, social, demographic, ethnocultural, interactive, mental, political, economic and environmental aspects that construct the circumpolar literary image in V. N. Matonin’s travelogue.

The Easiest Becomes the Rule: Beliefs, Knowledge and Attitudes of Equine Practitioners and Enthusiasts Regarding Horse Welfare.

Inadequate management conditions can impair the welfare of captive-bred horses. Understanding individuals' viewpoints and the factors influencing their decisions about adopting or avoiding certain practices may provide insights into their motivations and decision-making processes. This is particularly relevant in the equestrian community, where equine practitioners and enthusiasts often engage in harmful practices. We explored the beliefs, knowledge, and attitudes of equine practitioners and enthusiasts about horse welfare and the barriers that prevent them from employing better management practices that are essential to promoting horses' welfare. The study consisted of in-depth semi-structured interviews conducted in person with 31 individuals directly involved in the equestrian environment in Brazil. Responses were analyzed through thematic analysis with a data-driven deductive approach. Participants' beliefs, knowledge and attitudes to horse welfare were divided into three themes. The first theme, "Let the horse be a horse", captured participants' perceptions about how physical and mental aspects related to the nature and welfare of horses. The second theme, "Everyone does it like that", includes the social norms that influence decisions about the practices that impact on the welfare of the horses. The third theme, "Beyond utopia: how and why horses are managed the way they are", covered barriers that participants perceived as impediments to the use of best practices for the welfare of horses. While participants demonstrated awareness of welfare issues and acknowledged factors that negatively impact horses, there was a notable discrepancy between this knowledge and the implementation of improved management practices. This could be explained by several perceived barriers to implementing management practices that could enhance horse welfare, including lack of financial resources, limited physical space, shortage of qualified labor, time constraints, inadequate tools, and insufficient knowledge. Additionally, we identified deeply rooted social norms within the equestrian community and culturally established practices that limit approaches to horse welfare. Participants underscored the influence of these norms and different interpretations of "letting the horse be a horse" based on the horse's value and purpose. Concerning low-value horses, the primary justifications for stall housing and concentrated feeding were linked to elevated costs involved in spatial demands and labor; in contrast, for high-value horses used in performance and aesthetics, the arguments shifted to potential benefits to the horses' well-being. From an ethical perspective, ideally, individuals should refrain from owning horses if they cannot ensure the animals' welfare. Additionally, if the equestrian community neglects public attitudes towards animal welfare, it risks eroding its social license.

Recent United States Developments in the Pharmacological Treatment of Dry Eye Disease.

Dry eye disease (DED) can arise from a variety of factors, including inflammation, meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), and neurosensory abnormalities. Individuals with DED may exhibit a range of clinical signs, including tear instability, reduced tear production, and epithelial disruption, that are driven by different pathophysiological contributors. Those affected often report a spectrum of pain and visual symptoms that can impact physical and mental aspects of health, placing an overall burden on an individual's well-being. This cumulative impact of DED on an individual's activities and on society underscores the importance of finding diverse and effective management strategies. Such management strategies necessitate an understanding of the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms that contribute to DED in the individual patient. Presently, the majority of approved therapies for DED address T cell-mediated inflammation, with their tolerability and effectiveness varying across different studies. However, there is an emergence of treatments that target additional aspects of the disease, including novel inflammatory pathways, abnormalities of the eyelid margin, and neuronal function. These developments may allow for a more nuanced and precise management strategy for DED. This review highlights the recent pharmacological advancements in DED therapy in the United States. It discusses the mechanisms of action of these new treatments, presents key findings from clinical trials, discusses their current stage of development, and explores their potential applicability to different sub-types of DED. By providing a comprehensive overview of products in development, this review aims to contribute valuable insights to the ongoing efforts in enhancing the therapeutic options available to individuals suffering from DED.

The Impact of Positive Mental State on Physical Health

Mental and physical aspects of health in humans have long shared a symbiotic relationship, with various studies in Psychology acknowledging the same. Modern studies have increasingly focused on the impact of positive mental status on an individual’s physical well-being. Jerome E. Baum and Tasha E. Posluszny in 1999 published an article "Mapping Biobehavioural Contributions to Health and Illness" that probes into numerous aspects of health psychology, such as the effects of stress, coping mechanisms, health behaviour change, and the biopsychosocial model of health. Hippocrates, regarded as the father of Western medicine, proposed a theory of involving various body resources including blood, bile etc., which could influence a person's physical and mental health. He was one of the earliest to recognise the impact that psychological factors held on physical health and acknowledged the role that emotions such as anger, fear, and sadness held in influencing both physical and mental well-being. Psychotherapists and practicing physicians too have recognized the co-existence of psychological and physical disorders. What is missing though, is the specific link that connects emotional status with physical complaints in an individual, although the simultaneous existence of depressed mood and increased complaints of physical complaints is well documented. This research paper strives to delve into the existing literature to decode the multi-faceted connections that exist between positive mental states, like optimism, flexibility, persistence and happiness, and how they impact physical health outcomes. Using theoretical groundworks and empirical evidence, this paper aims to provide a far-reaching understanding of how physical health and overall well-being can be inculcated with a positive mental state.

Child maltreatment and mental health- Ayurveda perspective

Child maltreatment is a pervasive and complex societal issue that encompasses various forms of abuse and neglect, posing significant threats to the well-being and development of children worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines child maltreatment as “all forms of physical and emotional ill-treatment, sexual abuse, neglect, and exploitation that results in actual or potential harm to the child’s health, development or dignity.” Abuse of children can have serious short and long term effects on physical, sexual, and mental health. These include physical harm, such as concussions and severe disabilities, especially in young children, as well as anxiety, sadness, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Child abuse has a strong correlation with alcohol and drug usage and can impact cognitive and academic performance.Priority must be for protecting and preserving the safety of abused children. The goals of ongoing treatment are to lessen the long-term psychological and physical effects of abuse as well as preventing reoccurrence. Child maltreatment is a global concern with profound implications for the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of children. While conventional approaches in the field of child protection have made significant strides, there is growing interest in exploring complementary practices, such as Ayurveda, to enhance the overall well-being of maltreated children. The potential role of Ayurveda in addressing child maltreatment, considering its ancient roots in promoting holistic health and balance is to be highlighted. Ayurveda also proposes the principles for taking care of childhood and preventing maltreatment for them. Therapies, including herbal remedies, massage, and meditation is having the potential in managing and rehabilitating the children affected by maltreatment. Ayurveda focuses in addressing not only physical symptoms but also mental and emotional aspects that aligns with the comprehensive needs of maltreated children.

Mindfulness and Movement: Scientifically Exploring the Health Impacts of Yoga

Introduction: Yoga combines asanas (postures), pranayamas (breathing exercises), and dhyanas (meditation) to improve physical and mental well-being. It's recognized for its substantial health benefits, safety, and cost-effectiveness, leading to calls for its broader integration into healthcare for its therapeutic and preventative potential. This study aims to explore yoga's multifaceted health benefits across physical, mental, and biochemical aspects to support its integration as a holistic health practice. Material and Methods of Research: A literature search was conducted on PubMed and Google Scholar using keywords related to yoga's health benefits to gather insights into its holistic impacts. Results: Yoga benefits musculoskeletal health, enhancing balance, strength, and reducing fracture risks, and improves respiratory function through practices like pranayama. It positively impacts brain health, aiding in cognitive function and potentially slowing neurodegenerative decline. Yoga also offers mental health benefits, reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety, and has antioxidative effects that combat oxidative stress. Additionally, it supports endocrine function, reduces stress, and has anti-inflammatory effects that bolster immune health. Yoga's influence on metabolic health suggests its potential in managing cardiovascular risk factors and diabetes, highlighting its comprehensive health benefits. Conclusion: This study highlights yoga's comprehensive benefits on physical, mental, and biochemical health, demonstrating its efficacy in enhancing musculoskeletal and respiratory function, combating cognitive decline, reducing mental health issues, and offering antioxidative and anti-inflammatory benefits, underscoring its value in modern holistic healthcare.

A scientific evaluation of Mental Health through Ayurveda

Mental health is an important aspect of overall wellbeing, as it allows individuals to recognize their own capabilities, manage everyday stress, be productive, and contribute to their community. According to Ayurveda, life consists of four interconnected elements: the body (Sarira), the sensory and motor faculties (Indriya), and the mind (Sattva), and the soul (Atma). Achieving a healthy life requires a harmonious balance of these components, encompassing physical, mental, sensory and spiritual aspects. Ayurveda also emphasizes the significance of mental health, including qualities such as a balanced and pleasant state of mind, cheerfulness, satisfactory sleep, stable mental faculties, active senses, and control over negative emotions, resilience in the face of adversity, and the ability to adapt. Ayurveda has various methods to evaluate mental health, including the assessment through Manasika Prakriti (Sattvika, Rajasika and Tamasika), Nadi Pariksha, Prajnaparadha, Ashta Vibhrama as mentioned in Unmada Nidana of Charaka Samhitha, and Sattva Pariksha as described in Dasavidha Pariksha. The main purpose of this evaluation is for establishing a proper diagnosis as well as prognosis of a disease. This review articles elaborates the scientific tools mentioned in Ayurveda to evaluate mental health.

Effect of an exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation program on quality of life of patients with chronic Chagas cardiomyopathy: results from the PEACH randomized clinical trial.

To investigate the effect of an exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation program on the quality of life (QoL) of patients with chronic Chagas cardiomyopathy (CCC). PEACH study was a single-center, superiority randomized clinical trial of exercise training versus no exercise (control). The sample comprised Chagas disease patients with CCC, left ventricular ejection fraction < 45%, without or with HF symptoms (CCC stages B2 or C, respectively). QoL was assessed at baseline, after three months, and at the end of six months of follow-up using the SF-36 questionnaire. Patients randomized for the exercise group (n = 15) performed exercise training (aerobic, strength and stretching exercises) for 60min, three times a week, during six months. Patients in the control group (n = 15) were not provided with a formal exercise prescription. Both groups received identical nutritional and pharmaceutical counseling during the study. Longitudinal analysis of the effects of exercise training on QoL, considering the interaction term (group × time) to estimate the rate of changes between groups in the outcomes (represented as beta coefficient), was performed using linear mixed models. Models were fitted adjusting for each respective baseline QoL value. There were significant improvements in physical functioning (β = + 10.7; p = 0.02), role limitations due to physical problems (β = + 25.0; p = 0.01), and social functioning (β = + 19.2; p < 0.01) scales during the first three months in the exercise compared to the control group. No significant differences were observed between groups after six months. Exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation provided short-term improvements in the physical and mental aspects of QoL of patients with CCC.Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT02517632; August 7, 2015.

Abstract LB138: Quality of life impact on cancer screening in Black subgroups

Abstract Introduction Blacks have the poorest cancer outcomes with the highest incidence and mortality. Preliminary studies led by the African Caribbean Consortium (AC3) show that Blacks are diverse with distinct cancer risks and outcomes. It is clear that cancer screening is critical to prevention, and population patterns of screening are dictated by complex and multilevel factors including cost, access and health system as well as personal factors. These personal characteristics, especially considering Black diversity, are particularly understudied. Hence, this study seeks to describe cancer screening patterns in Black subgroups, especially considering the influence of quality of life (QOL). Methods This study drew data from the community-engaged AC3-Cancer Prevention Project (CAP3) targeting diverse Blacks. Specifically, we sought to identify associations between QOL measured by CDC Physical and Mental Health; Perceived Stress, and self-reported cancer screenings breast, prostate, cervical and colon cancers. Cancer screening rates were stratified by African Americans (AfA) and African (AfI) and African-Caribbean (AfC) immigrants. Descriptive analyses and Fisher’s Exact test were conducted. Results There were 263 AfA, 103 AfI, and 174 AfC. Overall, cancer screening rates were consistently above 50%. Distinct QOL variables were associated with cancer screening patterns with some variability by Black sub-group. Better Mental Health e.g., wellbeing (p=0.01) and energy (p=0.04) are related to mammogram uptake for all subgroups. Better energy (p=0.03) and lower life-burden (p=0.01) showed significant associations with mammogram for AfAs. For AfCs, Mental Health- depressive symptomatology was significantly related to breast- (p=0.04), prostate- (p=0.03), and colorectal- cancer screening (p=0.03). For AfI, Stress was significantly related to colorectal cancer screening (p=0.01). Discussion Results demonstrated QOL variables, especially those related to mental health e.g., depressive symptomatology and lack of life control influenced cancer screening among AfC and AfI, respectively than other subgroups. While among AfA screening patterns were more heavily influenced by mental health aspects on the empowerment domain e.g., energy and burden. This novel, discovery science study suggests the importance of interaction between QOL, in particular mental wellbeing, self-and health efficacy and life-burden, and cancer screening. Findings highlight Black heterogeneity–encompassing diverse ethnic and cultural subgroups–with distinct influencers of cancer screening patterns; all requiring urgent scientific attention and research prioritization to address pressing Black cancer vulnerability and disparities, particularly qualitative exploration of these relationships among the Black diasporas. This article delves into the significance of assessing an individual’s physique as an initial diagnostic method for evaluating well-being, addressing both physical and mental health aspects. Body mass index (BMI) is commonly used to assess anthropometric height/weight attributes, aiding in nutrition evaluation and categorization, contributing to the promotion of healthy lives and well-being. The focus lies on growth monitoring for infants and children. The stunting not only impacts mental and physical development but also contributes to lifelong health disparities. Indonesia ranks fifth in global stunting cases. The government aims to reduce stunting by 14% in 2024, employing specific nutritional interventions. Stunting’s consequences span increased illness rates, compromised growth and learning, susceptibility to diseases in adulthood, and diminished productivity. Early identification and prevention are essential, with Posyandu serving as a platform for community-driven health progress. Regarding the early detection of stunting, it is imperative to involve healthcare workers in the design process of growth monitoring tools and interventions. This ensures that these tools and interventions are practical and user-friendly in real-world scenarios. Utilizing user-centered design approaches like Kansei Design Thinking and Quality Function Deployment can lead to the development of more effective and engaging tools and interventions.

Retrospective Chart Analysis of Psychiatry Referrals for Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients in a Dedicated COVID Hospital in a Metropolitan City in India

Abstract Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has been associated with multiple psychiatric problems in the general population as well as in those admitted with the infection. Studies done so far have mainly focused on the general population. It is important to address the needs and gaps in mental and psychological aspect of health of patients admitted with the infection to improve their overall prognosis. This study was undertaken with the aim to study the pattern of psychiatric referrals of hospitalized COVID-19 patients and to find out if there is any association between their socio-demographics, severity of COVID-19 infection, inflammatory markers, and co-morbidities. Materials and Methods: A descriptive, retrospective chart analysis of the record of 160 psychiatry referrals for COVID-19 patients seen by the on-call psychiatrist from May 2020 to October 2020 in a tertiary care hospital was undertaken. Sociodemographic data, severity of COVID-19 infection, blood investigation reports, psychiatric symptoms, diagnosis and management were recorded, tabulated, and analyzed using SPSS 20. Results: Referrals were more for individuals having moderate-to-severe COVID-19 infection, in elderly patients and in males. The most common reason for referral was disorientation (27.5%) and insomnia (27.5%), followed by the patient having a preexisting psychiatric illness (15%). The most common psychiatric diagnosis was delirium secondary to general medical condition, (28%), followed by anxiety and depressive spectrum disorders (23.75%). 32.5% of the patients referred had a past history of psychiatric illness, the most common being substance use disorder, followed by major depressive disorder and mixed anxiety depression. With the increase in the age of the individuals, the number of referrals for males was significantly more as compared to females (P = 0.00). No statistically significant association was found between age (P = 0.83), gender (P = 0.99), and psychiatric diagnosis. No significant association was found between the severity of COVID-19 and psychiatric diagnosis (P = 0.69). Conclusion: It is essential to screen for psychiatric disorders in patients admitted for COVID, as it goes a long way in reducing the overall morbidity and improves patient cooperation for various procedures which could be life-saving.

QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS WITH STABLE CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE IN A TERTIARY CARE CENTRE- A HOSPITAL-BASED STUDY

Background:Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major and increasing global health problem .Analyzing the mental, physical and social aspects of this disease is necessary to improve the quality of life (QOL) of COPD patients. Methodology: This study was carried out in 100 stable COPD patients.Detailed history ,general and systemic examination were done.Routine blood investigations, Chest x-ray and spirometry were done.Patients were asked to complete St. Georges Respiratory Questionnaire for COPD patients (SGRQ-C) (simple malayalam version) as honestly as they can.Statistical analysis:Descriptive statistical tools like mean, standard deviation, median was used. Result:A total of 100 COPD patientswith a mean age of 66.91 years and a standard deviation of 7.93 yearswere included in the study in which 95% were males. Study showedsignificant difference between the mild and moderate groups (p &lt;0.001), mild and severe groups (p &lt;0.001), mild and very severe groups (p &lt;0.001). No significant difference between moderate and severe groups, moderate and very severe groups and between severe and very severe groups was found.So we can conclude that the median SGRQ score in the mild COPD group was significantly less compared to all the other groups and that there was no significant difference between the other groups.

ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN QUALITY OF LIFE WITH PSYCHOLOGICAL STATE, DISORDERS OF THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM AND PECULIARITIES OF INFECTIOUS PNEUMONIA 3 MONTHS AFTER COVID-19

Highlights The severity of pneumonia and the presence of cardiovascular diseases have a negative impact on the physical aspect of quality of life. Women`s quality of life indicators tend to be worse than men`s. Regular work activity is a factor that improves the physical aspect of the quality of life. AbstractAim. To analyze the relationship between the quality of life (QoL) and the psychological and somatic state of patients 3 months after Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia.Methods. The study is a part of the “Prospective Follow-up Study of Patients after COVID-19 Pneumonia” that involves data on 351 patients (age 53±11) 3 months after hospitalization. Women accounted for 51% of all patients. Cardiologist and clinical psychologist examined cardiovascular and psychological health of patients. We assessed QoL by using the SF-36 survey, and psychometric properties by using the GAD-7, PHQ-9 and PSS-10. We estimated the severity of the COVID-19 using the discharge summaries information.Results. The prevalence of stress symptoms (27,4% vs 5,1%, p = 0,030) and depression (18,00 [13,00–25,00] vs 20,00 [15,00–24,00], p = 0,032) were higher in patients with cardiovascular disorders. Moreover, QoL was lower in this group of patients in all subscales except for “Mental health” and “Mental health aspect”. Women were more 3 times more likely to experience psychological and emotional disorders compared to men (29,1% vs 16,2%, ОR = 2,615 95%; 95% CI 1,695–4,035; p&lt;0,001). At the same time, all QoL indicators in women were significantly lower. For example, the average score on subscales “Mental health aspect” was equal to 47,17 [41,33–51,35] in women and 50,16 [46,65–52,35] in men (p&lt;0,001), and the average score on subscale “Physical health aspect” was equal to 66,32 [60,71–72,62] in women and 63,82 [56,04–70,93] in men (p = 0,003). The QoL scores on physical health subscales were higher in patients with mild and moderate lung lesions. Scores on the “Social functioning” subscale were higher in unmarried patients (87,00 [62,50–100,00] in married patients and 100,00 [75,10–100,00] in unmarried patients; p = 0,017), and scores on the subscale “Physical health aspect” were lower in unemployed patients (48,73 [44,43–52,31] in employed patients and 44,84 [41,32–49,73] in unemployed patients; p&lt;0,001).Conclusion. Тhe presence of cardiovascular disorders and severity of the COVID-19 pneumonia affected the physical aspect of QoL. QoL in women is worse compared with men. Regular work activity improves the physical aspect of QoL. There is a decrease in social activity in married patients after COVID-19 compared to unmarried patients.
