Digital Media and EdTech-Based Instruction for Students and Teachers with Disabilities in Jordan

There is a need for evaluations to help us understand the associations found in research on special education and new media. The researcher in this study explores the role of digital media in public education, with a specific emphasis on the role of digital media in the education of students with special needs and other types of disabilities. We used qualitative studies for our investigation. Under this pedagogical framework, it will provide helpful materials for digital media teachers and students who may not be fully aware of the benefits and significance of special education in the context of digital media instruction and education. Because there aren't enough studies on the subject, the sample size for this article is 12. The special edition on digital media and educational technology-based education for children with impairments. Initially, the selected pieces were dispersed in 2020 and 2022. Information required for the review's assessment was assembled by classifying the collected data according to the review's rubric. The review is the most useful tool for this assessment since it provides the best method for arranging both large amounts of data and personal judgments. In addition to describing how instructors and library media workers may work together to address the needs of children with disabilities, this article gives an overview of both physical and digital access to the library's resources. Research conducted by specialists has shown a positive correlation between all of these biomarkers.

School Library Media SIG Session

A School Librarian Needs Assessment on Culturally Responsive and Impactful K-12 Online Teaching and Learning. There is a lack of research that examines school library education, professional development, or application of culturally responsive pedagogy in K-12 online settings. This research project investigates the characteristics of the school librarianship knowledge gap on culturally responsive online pedagogy through needs assessment research. Data was collected utilizing national online webinars as online discussion groups. The findings from the first phase of a national research grant project to examine, assess, and address the school librarianship knowledge gap on the design and delivery of targeted and culturally responsive online learning will be presented. Opening the Pipeline: Sustaining Recruitment for School Librarianship. Over the last decade, the number of school librarians (SLs) in US public schools declined. Among the reasons administrators shared regarding these unfilled (and potentially lost) positions were issues with “the pipeline” or the availability of qualified candidates to apply for posted positions. This was particularly true in states with no school librarian preparation programs (SLPPs) at their colleges and universities and resulted in areas (often rural) where school districts had openings for SLs but were unable to find candidates willing to relocate (Lance & Kachel, 2021). To understand this “pipeline problem” and the role that SLPPs play, we turn to the recruitment practices in SLPPs, and ask: what are the current practices for inviting, promoting, and/or recruiting candidates to SLPPs? Initial research findings and anecdotal academic experience reveal that barriers to entering SLPPs include rigid requirements for credentialing and the financial burdens of tuition and associated personal expenses. With new insights into the variety of strategies used (and not used) across programs, we hope to initiate professional conversations and create recommendations for opening and sustaining a national pipeline that ensures that well-qualified candidates are prepared to serve as school librarians. Share and Share Alike: School Librarians Sharing Their Truths about Evidence Based Practice. P12 educators are expected to utilize evidence to inform practices and decisions. Although most school librarians collect and use evidence, they struggle doing so systematically or in relation to teaching and learning. We conducted focus groups interviews with school librarians and their educators and supervisors to identify existing opportunities that prepare school librarians for evidence-based practice (EBP), challenges with those opportunities, and types and forms of professional learning that school librarians prefer as they continue to hone their application of EBP. Our findings indicate that additional tools and real-time learning opportunities would further support school librarians’ EBP knowledge and skills.

The use of animation tools in the media space of library for the formation of undergraduates' teamwork skills

The problem and the aim of the study. The modernization of library education involves the use of technologies that provide simultaneous work with sound, statistical images, and texts in an interactive mode. The ability to use information tools, in particular computer animation, in working on projects and teamwork skills are indemand soft skills, the maturity of which largely determines the professional self-realization of librarianship specialists. The purpose of the study is to identify the potential of using animation tools in the library's media space to develop the teamwork skills of master’s students. Research methods. The media space of the library is considered as a set of resources that allow professional collaboration of cultural institutions in a new format, attracting potential users to visit libraries, as well as informing them about their services. The Renderforest platform is used to develop didactic animation. The experiment involved 64 undergraduates of specialty 04.51.01 Cultural studies, profile – "Socio-cultural design", Vyatka State University (Russian Federation). The authors use V. Stefanson's methodology to assess the level of teamwork skills of master's students. For statistical processing, – Pearson's χ2 (chi-square) test. A group of experts has been involved in the evaluation of media projects for “Library Night” event. Fisher's method was used to establish statistically significant differences. Results. The students of the experimental group used animation tools to develop projects and library and information services according to the following algorithm: studying a digital service, defining the concept of an action/event for “Library Night”, writing a script, implementing a project, evaluating the potential for the development of the library's media space. Statistically significant differences in the qualitative changes that occurred in the system were revealed: according to the levels of formation of teamwork skills according to the criteria of dependence/non-dependence on the opinion of the group (χ2 = 6.427; p < 0.05); sociability/ nonsociability (χ2 = 7.879; p < 0.05); acceptance of "struggle" / "struggle" / avoidance of "struggle" (χ2 = 6.081; p < 0.05); and by the quality of training – φcrit=1.64<φemp=2.804. Conclusion. The possibilities of using animation tools in the media space of the library for the development of teamwork skills of master’s students are formulated: new formats of collaboration and project activities, innovative work experience, etc. However, there are also factors complicating the process: absence of clear leadership; constrains of communication; weak motivation; low social status of the profession.

Media Library: A Retrospection

“Media Library” re-imagines the traditional concept of a library by transforming it into a ‘third place.’ Beyond its role as a repository of books, this innovative space encourages public participation, creativity, and interaction. The building design integrates various functions, including display areas, music studios, and a cafe-restaurant. Its facade, resembling an unfurling ribbon, interacts with the surrounding urban environment. The interior features “bubbles” that serve as intimate cocoons for specific activities. Overall, this project challenges conventional library norms and invites visitors to engage actively in their own experiences.

Social Media as an Effective Channel of Professional Communication Among Public Library Specialists

The purpose of the article is to study the role of social media in the process of professional communication among public library specialists. Research methods. The methods of analysis and synthesis were used, which contributed to a comprehensive understanding of the processes of using social media in public libraries in Ukraine. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the introduction of data on the peculiarities of using social media in public libraries of Ukraine as platforms for presenting their professional activities and improving their reputation, establishing and deepening professional contacts and creating professional collaborations, exchanging professional information and experience, and improving their skills. The article summarises the data on the activities of leading public libraries in Ukraine in using social media to promote their goals, attract readers and communicate professionally. The main trends in the use of social media for professional communication by public library professionals are identified. Conclusions. It has been concluded that the professional communication of public library specialists is a special kind of semantic communication that serves to transfer professional knowledge and is implemented in a specific library environment or library space. As a channel of professional communication, social media is a new promising type of organisational and production structure and at the same time an electronic resource. In the process of professional communication, public libraries of Ukraine use social media, which are not only platforms, access points to resources or the main interface of public libraries, but also a platform for presenting information and interacting among the professional library community.

Evaluation de l’enseignement par les étudiants : exemple d’un atelier de simulation sur l’ECG

The electrocardiogram (ECG) is a fundamental tool in medical practice. At the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis (FMT), it is usually taught during a lecture. FMT's Physiology Department has innovated its teaching by introducing simulation workshops. This study aimed to assess the students' satisfaction with teaching ECG by simulation. This was a cross-sectional descriptive study, carried out in April 2018, including 160 students in the first year of the first cycle of medical studies, divided into 10 groups. The students attended an ECG simulation workshop at the FMT media library and then answered a satisfaction form and a self-assessment questionnaire for the workshop. More than 50% of the students answered either satisfied or very satisfied with the duration of the course, the room, the method of the teacher, and their participation in the course of the session. Regarding teaching support, 19.3% of the students were very satisfied with the practice of the ECG on a mannequin versus 25% for the practice on a voluntary student. For the number of students per group, 42.1% of students were dissatisfied. This study highlights the weak points of this simulation workshop in order to improve it. Then, it helps to build students' confidence and encourage their adherence to the feedback process. Finally, it shows students' enthusiasm for new teaching methods such as simulation. It would be interesting to generalize this evaluation process for the improvement of medical education and the training of future doctors.

P.016 Re-norming medical education: centering patient experience and diverse bodies in Lumbar Puncture (LP) instruction

Background: Medical curricula are often created with limited patient and student input and underrepresent certain body types. Traditional medical education often prepares learners to perform procedures, such as lumbar punctures (LPs), on a young white able-bodied 70kg male. When approaching diverse patients, this educational gap can lead to medical learners’ lack of confidence, skill, and knowledge, resulting in poor patient experiences. Methods: This co-design project involves patient and student input. We interviewed five patients who underwent LPs and explored their experience through a trauma-informed approach. To visualize landmarking across body types, we recruited nine volunteers of diverse body sizes, ages, tattoos, and skin colour (Fitzpatrick Scale). Incorporating patient narratives, as well as videos and photographs showing landmarking on diverse bodies, we crafted an online LP instructional module. Focus groups of 6-10 students will be held to collect student perception of the effectiveness of the module. Results: Our learning module and related media will be built into Western University’s Undergraduate Medical Education curriculum, available under a Creative Commons license through the Western Health Education Media Library. Conclusions: Integrating patient experience and student feedback, we are developing a comprehensive educational tool to better equip medical learners to deliver patient-centered LPs across diverse body types.

Empowering Pre-Service Teachers for the Digital Transformation of Education from New Normal to Next Normal

The purposes of research were to comparison of digital technology used for the instructional management during the Covid-19 pandemic during the New Normal period and the endemic Covid-19 during Next Normal period adopted by pre-service teachers; and to develop the landscape of digital technology used for instructional management during the New Normal and the Next Normal periods adopted by pre-service teachers. The participants included 400 pre-service teachers. The research tool was an online questionnaire. The data were analyzed by mean and standard deviation. The results showed the comparison of digital technology for the instructional management in the New Normal and the Next Normal as follows. Regarding the New Normal, the finding were: (a) some websites and applications such as Google Meet, Line, YouTube, and Facebook Messenger were used to communication with students; (b) some websites and applications, namely Google classroom, MS Teams, Moodle, and Thaimooc were used to send and receive student’s works; (c) some learning management systems, namely Google classroom, MS Teams, Moodle, and Thaimooc were used; (d) some digital media libraries such as YouTube, Trueplookpanya, DLTV, Satellite Distance Education Foundation, SciMath Knowledge Library, and IPST were used; (e) some online measurement and evaluation tools such as Google Forms, Kahoot, Quizizz, and Microsoft Forms were used and (f) some teaching guidelines and tools, like Video assignment, General Activities, and Attendance be used later. Regarding the Next Normal, the finding were: (a) some websites and applications were used to communicate with students, including Line, Facebook, Messenger, Youtube and Google classroom; (b) some websites and applications like Line, Facebook Messenger, YouTube, and Google classroom were used to send and receive student’s assignments; (c) some learning management systems like Google classroom, MS Teams, Moodle, Edmodo, and Thaimooc were also used; (d) some digital media libraries like Google classroom, YouTube, Trueplookpanya, OBEC Content Center - NEDA, and DLTV (Satellite Distance Education Foundation) were also helpful; (e) some online measurement and evaluation tools like Google Forms, Kahoot, Quizizz, and Microsoft Forms were also used; and (f) some teaching guidelines and tools like Assignment, Announcements and Update, Student Support, and Grade Book will also be used later. The digital technology landscape consists of 6 parts: (1) the websites and applications used for communication with students; (2) the websites and applications provides for students to submit their assignments; (3) the learning management systems; (4) the digital media libraries; (5) the online measurement and evaluation tools; and (6) the teaching guidelines and tools to be used later.

Perceived Risks of Social Media in the University Libraries of Pakistan: An Empirical Investigation

Purpose The research on social media adoption and use is on the rise in Pakistan. However, researchers did not focus on investigating the risks associated with social media use for library services. So, this study examines perceived risks of library services through social media in the university libraries of Pakistan. Also, suggest possible solution to overcome the observed risks. Methodology Using a structured questionnaire, a national-level survey was conducted. Respondents of the study were professional librarians designated as Head or Chief or University librarian representing their organization. The study was conducted in an organizational perspective and required a single response from each organization. The questionnaire was distributed among 181 university librarians working both in public and private sector university libraries in Pakistan. However, valid responses were 124 (69%). Findings The Pakistani university libraries are using social media platforms for library services. However, the research findings reveal that there are several risks to offering library services through social media. Among the responded libraries, the libraries that do not use social media platforms for service delivery feel riskier compared to the libraries that offer library services through social media. It is also found that there is no formal policy on social media usage in the libraries. Practical implications The research findings provide valuable insight to university administration, library social media users, and developers on how to consider the identified risks while designing state-of-the-art library services through social media. Also, the study findings may be easily generalized at national level due to the coverage of the whole population. Originality This is a novel study that explores the perceived social media risks associated with using social media to offer library services. Also, the study is first attempt that covers whole population through a census survey in an organizational perspective.

Implementation of the School Literacy Movement (GLS) for Students of Junior High School (SMP) Al-Azhar 3 Bandar Lampung

School literacy in the context of the School Literacy Movement (GLS) is the ability to access, understand, and use things intelligently through various activities including reading, viewing, listening, writing, and speaking. This research aims to find out and describe how the School Literacy Movement (GLS) is implemented among students and the obstacles they face. In this research, the researcher chose SMP Al-Azhar 3 Bandar Lampung as the place for carrying out the research. This research is descriptive qualitative research, with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation, and the researcher uses data analysis in the form of source triangulation. Based on the results of this research, it was found that the implementation of the school literacy movement (GLS) at SMP Al-Azhar 3 Bandar Lampung has fulfilled three stages of the chool literacy movement (GLS), namely habituation, development, and learning based on the school literacy movement guidelines in junior high school, which was determined by the Directorate General of Primary and Secondary Education, Ministry of Education and Culture in 2016. Activities at the familiarization stage include opening class (Tadarus Al-Qur’an), daily reading journals, class library media, moving book media, literacy-themed poster media, creating a text-rich environment, alumni donating books to the library, and activities for selecting reading books. The development stage includes opening class (tadarus Al-Qur’an), vocabulary game activities, BBQ activities (Bina Baca Qur’an), tasmi’ activities, activities responding to reading results, and independent reading hours. The learning stage includes opening class (Tadarus Al-Qur’an), vocabulary games, activities responding to reading results, and reading challenge activities. The obstacles faced in implementing the School Literacy Movement (GLS) at SMP Al-Azhar 3 Bandar Lampung include general obstacles and specific obstacles. The general obstacles consist of a lack of literacy-themed collections and inadequate library facilities. This results in a lack of interest in reading in the library, while special obstacles appear in moving book activities. This is due to the lack of supervision carried out by library staff, whose number is still minimal.

Social media analytics for academic music library: a case study of CUHK center for Chinese Music Studies

PurposeWith the rapid development of social media, many organizations have begun to attach importance to social media platforms. This research studies the management and the use of social media in academic music libraries, taking the Center for Chinese Music Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CCMS) as a case study.Design/methodology/approachWe conducted a sentiment analysis of posts on Facebook’s public page to analyze the reaction to the posts with some exploratory analysis, including the communication trend and relevant factors that affect user interaction.FindingsOur results show that the Facebook channel for the library has a good publicity effect and active interaction, but the number of posts and interactions has a downward trend. Therefore, the library needs to pay more attention to the management of the Facebook channel and take adequate measures to improve the quality of posts to increase interaction.Originality/valueFew studies have analyzed existing data directly collected from social media by programming based on sentiment analysis and natural language processing technology to explore potential methods to promote music libraries, especially in East Asia, and about traditional music.

Advanced Techniques for Geospatial Referencing in Online Media Repositories

In the digital transformation era, video media libraries’ untapped potential is immense, restricted primarily by their non-machine-readable nature and basic search functionalities limited to standard metadata. This study presents a novel multimodal methodology that utilizes advances in artificial intelligence, including neural networks, computer vision, and natural language processing, to extract and geocode geospatial references from videos. Leveraging the geospatial information from videos enables semantic searches, enhances search relevance, and allows for targeted advertising, particularly on mobile platforms. The methodology involves a comprehensive process, including data acquisition from ARD Mediathek, image and text analysis using advanced machine learning models, and audio and subtitle processing with state-of-the-art linguistic models. Despite challenges like model interpretability and the complexity of geospatial data extraction, this study’s findings indicate significant potential for advancing the precision of spatial data analysis within video content, promising to enrich media libraries with more navigable, contextually rich content. This advancement has implications for user engagement, targeted services, and broader urban planning and cultural heritage applications.

Needs Assessment in the use of Digital Technology for Learning Loss Recovery of Students at the Basic Education Level

Globally, COVID-19 has disrupted educational practices, causing basic education institutions in Thailand to close temporarily. Schools in Thailand as well as the world over have switched to online learning environments to guarantee students' educational continuation. The purposes of this study were firstly to determine whether digital technology is required for learning loss recovery; secondly, to conduct a systematic literature review using bibliometric keywords; thirdly, to assess the need for using digital technology to recover students' learning losses at the basic education level, both during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, and finally, to summarize data in an infographic landscape format pertaining to this topic. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 600 online respondents from throughout Thailand. The respondents included 56 educational supervisors, 40 school administrators, and 504 teachers. The results show that the following can be used: (a) student communication websites and applications, (b) student work acceptance websites and applications, (c) learning management systems, (d) digital media libraries, (e) online assessment tools, and (f) teaching methods and tools for future use. The respondents indicated that students have learning loss relating to (a) morality, ethics and manners, (b) good citizenship, (c) imagination and creativity, (d) health promotion, and (e) mathematical processes.

A Systematic Review of Application of Social Media in Libraries

Social media has emerged as a pivotal technological tool for libraries, enabling them to promote resources, services, and online offerings effectively. Many scholars and experts worldwide are trying hard and fast to explore the possibilities of an effective library social media presence. This paper systematically reviews 25 studies from the last six years (2018-2023) available in the area of social media application in libraries. PRISMA guidelines have been used to filter and select the most relevant literature to present a holistic and tangible view of the contemporary level of social media amalgamation in libraries. The chosen articles represent the numerous social media platforms available for libraries, the challenges in incorporating those platforms into monotonous services, and promotion and operative strategies to overcome those challenges. In the review, the library's social media practice revolves around three dimensions, i.e., communication, advertising, and services. Reference service is found to be the most preferred service through social media. Multiple factors, indicators, actions, and motivations have been found to strategize the libraries' social media incidence. This paper will provide a bird's eye view of the current status of library social media applications and help library professionals strategically select and utilize different social media platforms.

the paper deals with the description of word break as a type of speech failure in spontaneous Komi speech. The types of correction of a broken word are analyzed taking into account the following parameters: the presence / absence of isomorphism, the linear and structural range between the broken word and the corrected correlate, the volume of a word fragment, the frequency of the breakage. Objective: to identify and describe the peculiarities of word break in spontaneous Komi speech and ways to overcome it. Research materials: audio and video recordings contained in the Komi media library of the Interregional Laboratory of Information Support for the Functioning of Finno-Ugric Languages, as well as fragments of conversations of participants in programs shown in the Komi Republican television channel “Yurgan”. Results and novelty of the research: the paper is the first to analyze word breaks in spontaneous Komi speech. It has been established that a word fragment can be repeated, changed or canceled more often within one predication. It has been revealed that contact corrections predominate in speech, in which a full-meaning word follows directly after a rejected 62 Вестник угроведения. Т. 14. № 1 (56). 2024. fragment; less often, lexical markers of hesitation and words with a propositional meaning are inserted between them. As part of a phrase, one word is usually broken, and the break often occurs once. A specific feature of spontaneous Komi speech is the double correction of broken words: a fragment in one language can be corrected in the same or another language. Multilingual replacement of word fragments is typical for the speech of bilinguals who are fluent in Komi and Russian. A non-trivial correction is one in which only the suffix is corrected without repeating the full-valued word.

LINGUО-COGNITIVE FEATURES OF MEDIA TEXTS FOR CHILDREN (BASED ON TV PROGRAMS IN KAZAKH LANGUAGE)

The article analyzes the linguistic nature and national-cognitive features of media texts for children in the Kazakh language. the purpose of the study is to identify the linguocognitive nature of media culture for children. The relevance of the study is manifested in the consideration of media culture for children in the linguocognitive aspect according to the anthropogenic paradigm. In the course of the study, methods of generalization, cognitive analysis, and interpretation of materials were used. The article defines the features and linguistic nature of media texts, analyzes the cognitive function of media libraries for children. In conclusion, the author concludes that the study of the cognitive function of the language of TV programs determines the expression of national knowledge in the language of teletext, the verbalization of the Kazakh people’s ideas about the worldview and lifestyle, the world through the national language. The results of the study can be used in research in the fields of «Cognitive linguistics», «Мedia linguistics».

Communication Aspects of Media, Publishing, and Editorial Activities of University Libraries

Objective. The communication aspects of media, publishing, and editorial activities of university libraries were studied based on their official websites and the experience of the Scientific Library of the Drahomanov Ukrainian State University. The objective of this study is to track new trends in the library's media and communication activities. Methods. The methods used were observation, description, analysis and comparison of the content of the websites of Ukrainian and foreign libraries, as well as questionnaires and interviews with university stakeholders related to media activities. Results. The survey showed that the interaction of libraries with the media in the areas of information, consulting, providing factual and bibliographic references, access to collections and a pool of experts in various fields, and various educational events is in high demand. The means of popularizing and distributing their own media content are also common to libraries and media. Conclusions. University libraries should intensify their work with media and publishers on parity and mutually beneficial terms. Since the library in modern conditions produces and offers its own media products to the general public, the mass audience, it should also use the work methods of publishers and editorial offices with different groups of readers.
