Association reactions of ions with neutral molecules are readily studied using HPMS. These equilibrium reactions are studied with reactants and products in thermal equilibrium at well defined and measurable temperatures and pressures. The standard enthalpy and entropy changes for the association reactions are obtainable from the variation of the measured equilibrium constants with temperature. This thermodynamic data may be used to obtain other data such as proton affinities and stabilization energies. The quality of this derived information for organosilicon compounds is limited at present, not by the HPMS data but by the required ancillary data, for example the standard enthalpies of formation of neutral organosilicon compounds.
