Bibliometric analysis of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide

To delineate the mounting trends in the application of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) “Lycium barbarum polysaccharide” (LBP) and provide insights for future research, relevant literature was screened from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) on LBP. Then, the research trends in these fields were analyzed by using VOSviewer, Excel, and online platforms. Totally, 284 publications on the topic of LBP were identified and “Lycium barbarum polysaccharide” with a total link strength of 683 appeared as the most frequent keyword, which had a strong link to “oxidative stress” and “apoptosis”. A total of 20 countries and regions have published articles in this field, with the largest number of publications in China (265). The main partners of China are the USA and Canada. The top 6 institutions with the highest number of publications all belong to China, among which Ningxia Medical University is the institution with the highest number of publications. The mean citation count of the top 8 most productive authors was 8 (range, 6-11). The author with the highest average citation published 2 articles, with a total of 227 citations. The highest-ranking journal was the International Journal of Biological Macromolecules with 19 articles published and the most cited journal was Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, with 484 citation counts. Based on the bibliometrics, this paper analyzed the current research focus and development trends regarding the LBP.

Identifying disruptive papers in pharmacy literature that changed clinical practice: 1954-2014.

In an effort to expedite the publication of articles, AJHP is posting manuscripts online as soon as possible after acceptance. Accepted manuscripts have been peer-reviewed and copyedited, but are posted online before technical formatting and author proofing. These manuscripts are not the final version of record and will be replaced with the final article (formatted per AJHP style and proofed by the authors) at a later time. This study aimed to identify research publications that have significantly influenced clinical practice in pharmacy using a novel metric known as the disruption score. We conducted a bibliometric analysis and PubMed search of pharmacy practice articles published in 11 key pharmacy journals and articles tagged with the MeSH term "pharmacy" or "pharmacist." Utilizing a validated dataset of disruption scores encompassing articles published between 1954 and 2014, we identified the top 100 most disruptive papers alongside the top 100 most cited papers. Additionally, we explored comparisons between these lists and across various journals to gain comprehensive insights into the field's evolution over time. A total of 59,535 articles met the inclusion criteria, of which 56,764 (95%) were published in the 11 core pharmacy practice journals we chose while 2,771 (5%) were published in other PubMed-indexed journals. Notably, the top 100 most disruptive papers were deemed more disruptive than 99.9% of the entire PubMed universe. The most cited paper was the 22nd most disruptive paper. The mean citation count among the top 100 most disruptive papers was 196. The 1990s was the most disruptive decade, and American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy was the most disruptive journal. We observed a weak correlation between disruption score and citation count. The disruption score identified an innovative body of landmark papers whose legacy will remain solidified in pharmacy practice. The disruption score offers a unique perspective on clinical significance, complementing other bibliometric indices and adding to the identification of papers that have introduced new paradigms in pharmacy.

Bibliometric analysis of gastrodin

This study aims to delineate the research trends of gastrodin (GAS) and provide insights for future research. Relevant literature was first screened from the Web of Science Core Collection on GAS. Then, the research trend was analyzed using VOSviewer 1.6.20, Excel, and other online platforms. Totally, 510 publications on the topic of GAS were identified with “gastrodin” showing a total link strength of 1872. As the most frequent keyword, “gastrodin” had a strong link to “oxidative stress” and “apoptosis”. A total of 33 countries and regions have published articles in this field, with the largest number of publications in China (444). The main partners of China are South Korea and the USA. The top 5 institutions with the highest number of publications all belong to China, among which Kunming Med Univ is the institution with the highest number of publications. The mean citation count of the top 7 most productive authors was 7.86 (range, 6-16). The author with the highest average citation published 2 articles, with a total of 306 citations. The highest-ranking journal was Frontiers in Pharmacology with 18 publications and the most cited journal was Frontiers in Pharmacology as well, with 444 citation counts. Based on the bibliometric analysis, this paper explored the current research hotspot and development trend of the GAS, which is helpful for researchers to identify the hotspots in this direction and provide a reference for future research.

Bibliometric analysis of saponins of Panax notoginseng

Objective: To delineate the research trends in the application of Panax notoginseng (PNS) and provide insights for future research. Methods: Relevant literature has been first screened from the Web of Science Core Collection on PNS. Then, the research trends in these fields were analyzed by using VOSviewer 1.6.20, Excel, and online platforms. Results: Totally 562 publications related to PNS were identified. “notoginsenoside r1 (NGR1)” with a total link strength of 903 appeared as the most frequent keyword, which had a strong link to “saponins” and “panax notoginseng”. A total of 32 countries and regions have published articles in this field, with the largest number of publications in China (518). The main partners of China are the USA and the Netherlands. The top 8 institutions with the highest number of publications were located in China, among which, China Pharmaceut Univ is the one with the highest number of publications. The mean citation count of the top 6 productive authors was 11.3 (range, 16-10), and all of them were Chinese. The three authors with the highest average citations all published 3 articles, with a total of 425 citations. The highest-ranking journal was Frontiers in Pharmacology with 26 publications and the most cited journal was Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis with 749 citation counts. Conclusion: The present study provides a comprehensive overview and analysis of the global research trends on PNS.

Paradigm Shifts in Vascular Surgery: Analysis of the Top 100 Innovative and Disruptive Academic Publications.

Disruption score (DS) is a novel bibliometric created to identify research that shifts paradigms, which may be overlooked by citation count (CC). We analyzed the most disruptive, compared to the most cited, literature in vascular surgery, and hypothesized that DS and CC would not correlate. A PubMed search identified vascular surgery publications from 1954 to 2014. The publications were linked to the iCite NIH tool and DS algorithm to identify the top 100 studies by CC and DS, respectively. The publications were reviewed for study focus, design, and contribution, and subsequently compared. A total of 56,640 publications were identified. The top 100 DS papers were frequently published in J Vasc Sur (43%) and Eur J Vasc Endovasc Surg (13%). The top 100 CC papers were frequently published in N Engl J Med (32%) and J Vasc Sur (20%). The most cited article is the fifth most disruptive; the most disruptive article is not in the top 100 cited papers. The DS papers had a higher mean DS than the CC papers (.17 vs .0001, P < .0001). The CC papers had a higher mean CC than the DS papers (866 vs 188, P < .0001). DS and CC are weakly correlated metrics (r = .22, P = .03). DS was weakly correlated with CC and captured a unique subset of literature that created paradigm shifts in vascular surgery. DS should be utilized as an adjunct to CC to avoid overlooking impactful research and influential researchers, and to measure true academic productivity.

Retracted Publications in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery: What Mistakes Are Being Made?

Retraction of publications is critical to maintaining scientific integrity, yet there is a lack of research on its occurrence in Otolaryngology. This study investigates characteristics, trends, and reasons for retraction of publications in otolaryngology journals. Bibliometric analysis. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science. A PubMed search for publications retracted during 1990 to 2022 from the top 60 journals with the subject "Otorhinolaryngology" using Scopus' CiteScore was performed. Publications were excluded if they were not in English, had missing information or did not have available abstracts or full-text. Publication and retraction dates, journal, country of origin, citation counts, journal impact factor (JIF), topic, and reason for retraction were recorded. Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to identify potential associations in the data. Fifty-three publications were included. The 2020s had the highest number of retractions per year (4.33), with publications being retracted on average, 35 months after initial publication. The most common retracted topic and country of origin were head and neck (26.4%) and China (17.0%), respectively. Most publications were retracted because of plagiarism or duplicate publication (52.8%). Mean citation count was 6.92 ± 8.32 and mean JIF was 2.80 ± 1.35. Citation count was positively associated with months until retraction (r = .432, P = .001). There was no significant correlation between months to retraction and JIF (r = .022, P = .878). The most cited reasons for retraction were plagiarism and duplicate publication. An understanding of the reasons for retraction can better position journals to enforce more meticulous review standards and reduce such publications from being published. Level 4.

Top 50 Most-Cited Studies about Osteochondritis Dissecans

To determine the 50 most frequently cited studies on osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) and to conduct a bibliometric analysis of these studies. We performed a search within the Clarivate Web of Science database, identifying articles published before December 2022 that encompass topics related to OCD. The search was conducted using the keywords "Osteochondritis Dissecans OR Osteochondritis OR Dissecans."Search results were then filtered using predetermined guidelines and criteria, and the 50 most-cited articles were selected for analysis. Extracted data included title, journal, design, main topic, joint, citations, year, country of origin, and level of evidence. The search yielded 3,865 articles. The 50 most-cited articles were published between 1957 and 2018, with the greatest proportion published from 2000 to 2009 (60%). The most frequently studied topic was treatment (68%), followed by etiology (14%) and imaging (8%). The majority of articles had Level IV evidence (36%) and the largest proportion focused on the knee joint (36%), followed by the ankle (32%), and elbow (6%). The mean citation count per article was 287 (range: 157-1,050), with the most-cited articles primarily published from 2000 to 2003. The leading country of origin was the United States, accounting for 19 publications. Most of the top 50 most-cited articles regarding OCD are about treatment, and the knee is the most-studied joint. The majority of the articles were Level IV evidence and were published in the United States between 2000 and2009. The top 50 most-cited studies list will provide researchers, medical students, residents, and fellows with a foundational list of the most important and influential academic contributions regarding osteochondritis dissecans (OCD).

A Bibliometric Analysis of the Most Cited Journal Articles in Kidney Transplantation.

Citation analysis uses the number of times an author, article, or publication has been cited to determine its relative importance or effect. To provide an overview and identify the articles that have gotten the most attention in the field of kidney transplantation, this bibliometric analysis was conducted to analyze the top 100 most cited articles in the Scopus database. The search terms "kidney" and "renal"and transplant-related words such as "transplant," "donor," "recipient," and "procurement" were used to search the Scopus database. Articles up to the query date of December 21, 2022, were included, and all document types including articles, reviews, conference papers, editorials, book chapters, and meeting abstracts were analyzed. The analysis focused on authors, annual trends, journals, and countries. A total of 68,271 articles related to kidney transplantation were published in the Scopus database up to the search date of December 21, 2022. The top 100 cited papers had a total of 76,029 citations, with a mean citation count of 760.3 ± 284.6. The most cited article was a clinical practice guideline paper published by the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) Work Group. The top cited journals were the New England Journal of Medicine, Transplantation, and the American Journal of Transplantation. The most productive authors were primarily based in the United States, with the most frequently cited first author being Kasiske B.L. The greatest number of articles and citations were published between 2000 and 2005. This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the top cited articles in the field of kidney transplantation. The results highlight the most influential and impactful research, as well as the most productive authors, journals, and countries. These findings can be used to guide future research and support decision-making in funding and policy.

Minimally invasive intracerebral hemorrhage evacuation: A bibliometric analysis of current research trends

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Randomized clinical trials focusing on minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for ICH evacuation have suggested a potential benefit regarding mortality but results remain unclear regarding impact on functional outcome. This study presents a bibliometric analysis investigating the current trends in the literature on MIS for ICH. Using the Scopus collection database, a search was performed to identify literature that discussed MIS for ICH from 2000 to 2021. Primary research articles were included in this study. Reviews and book chapters were excluded. Analysis and visualization of the included literature were completed with VOSviewer. A total of 278 articles were identified. An upward trend in publications began in 2008, with the most publications in 2021 (36) followed by 2020 (25). The most citations occurred in 2013 (1192). The h-index, i-10 and i-100 were 37, 79 and 6 respectively. For the top 100 most cited studies, the mean citation count was 45.55 with a range of 6-760. The highest-producing institutions of MIS for ICH literature were Johns Hopkins University (31, 15 %), University of Chicago with (21, 10 %), Guiyang Medical College (17, 8 %), and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (15, 7 %). Keyword analysis revealed four major avenues: 1) medication enhancement of clot removal, 2) minimally invasive devices such as endoscopes, 3) craniotomy approach, and 4) physiology of clot removal. The literature on MIS for ICH has been expanding since 2008. Key topics include thrombolysis, device innovation, and surgical approach.

Bibliometric analysis of the 100 most-cited dental articles on COVID-19

Objective: This study aimed to bibliometrically characterize the top 100 most cited (T100) dental articles about COVID-19. Materials and Method: In the present study, the Web of Science core collection database was used to identify the T100 dental articles on COVID-19 in the category of "Dentistry, Oral Surgery and Medicine'' on May 19, 2021. Among the included top most cited articles, the following parameters were recorded and bibliometrically analyzed as article title, publication date, authorship, institution and country of origin, journals, with its impact factor (IF) and quartile, number of citations, study design, study topic, and level of evidence (LOE). Results: The mean citation count of the T100 dental articles on COVID-19 was 32.77 ± 97.31. The T100 dental articles were published in 43 different journals. The number of citations was positively correlated with journal IF (p&amp;lt;0.05; Spearman’s rank test). Four papers were cited more than 100 times. Although 521 authors from 32 different countries contributed to the articles, only 28% had international collaborations. The most productive countries were the USA and China. Of the T100 articles, 50% were of LOE VII and 32% LOE V. The most common study type was narrative reviews (n=38) followed by cross-sectional studies (n=26). Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis of the T100 dental articles on COVID-19 presents the current status, relationships between disciplines, and popular research trends. According to our analysis, the majority of the published articles are of low level of evidence. The establishment of further international cooperation between researchers may improve the scientific quality of future dentistry articles on COVID-19.

The composition of landmark vein of Galen malformation research: the emergence of endovascular treatments.

Since the advent of endovascular treatment, the long-term prognosis of vein of Galen malformation (VOGM) has markedly improved; however, the nature of research leading to this point is unclear. The objective of this study was to define the composition of VOGM research to date, by means of a bibliometric analysis of the 100 most cited VOGM articles. An electronic search of Elsevier's Scopus database was performed to identify the 100 most cited articles on VOGM screened against predetermined criteria. Data were then compared. The 100 most cited VOGM articles were published between 1974 and 2017 in 38 unique journals and originated from 16 unique countries. Mean citation count and rate were 59.4 citations and 2.9 citations/year, respectively. The USA (n = 42); Hôpital de Bicêtre, France (n = 15); and Dr. Pierre Lasjaunias (n = 16) were the largest individual country, institutional, and author contributors. Compared to the older articles (published < 2000), key differences for newer articles were statistically higher citation rates (P < 0.01), more authors (P < 0.01), higher proportion of endovascular treatment descriptions (P = 0.01), and more originating from Asia Pacific (P < 0.01). From the 100 most cited VOGM articles to date, there has been a noticeable shift from diagnosing VOGM based on the foundational work by Dr. Lasjaunias to understanding how we can model clinical outcomes now that endovascular treatment has become the standard of care. Significant shifts in prognosis are pending, and the current bibliometric data implicate we are on the precipice of more recent works making an impact in the near future.

Publication Trends in Pediatric Stone Disease: A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract Introduction In the pediatric population, the prevalence of stone disease has increased in recent years. We aim to analyze the bibliometric characteristic of available literature on the management of stones in this population. Methods We performed a search for articles published until December 2019 on the Scopus, Google Scholar, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases using the keywords children, lithiasis, and stones. We excluded articles involving patients older than 18 years of age and those with non-urological lithiasis. Then, we performed a bibliometric analysis using the original language, year of publication, impact factor (yearly number of citations), and absolute citation count as variables to calculate the impact index (number of sources adjusted for the time since publication). Results We included 291 articles published between 1940 and December 2019 for analysis. The average number of citations per manuscript was of 15.3 (± 21.9), and the average impact index was of 502 (± 976.4). A total of 4 articles were published before 1970. The evaluation of historical landmarks that could affect citation counts, such as the launch of a journal specialized in pediatric urology (Journal of Pediatric Urology), showed a mean citation count of 23.29 before the first edition, and of 14.96 after (p = 0.0006). The variation on the impact index with the same criteria was of 539.6 before the first edition of the Journal of Pediatric Urology, and of 316.32 after (p = 0.001). The average number of citations before internet access was of 17.9, and, after the internet, of 15.1 (p = 0.17). We also observed a difference in counts regarding languages of publication. Conclusions The proportional academic productivity on pediatric stone disease demonstrates that citation counts do not reflect the true academic impact of subspecialized topics.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Publications on Spinal Cord Injury Treatment With Glucocorticoids Using VOSviewer.

BackgroundSpinal cord injury (SCI) has devastating physical and social consequences for patients. Systemic administration of methylprednisolone (MP) at a higher dosage though can reduce neurological deficits following acute SCI. Still, this treatment regimen is controversial, owing to the apparent dose-related side effects and relatively minor improvement in neurological function. Therefore, this study aimed at the bibliometric analysis of published literature related to SCI treatment, which may lead to future research trends.MethodsThe literature published relating to SCI and using glucocorticoids for its treatment between 1982 and 2022 was collected and scanned in the Web of Science collection database using the keywords glucocorticoid, dexamethasone, MP, corticosteroids, and SCI, followed by using VOSviewer for bibliometric analysis of these articles.ResultsA total of 1,848 published articles and 7,448 authors on SCI and glucocorticoid usage were identified. The SCI total link strength accounts for 1,341, and MP for 762 has a strong link to neuroprotection and inflammation. The mean citation count for the top 20 most-cited articles was 682 (range: 358–1,828), where most of these were descriptive studies having focused on clinical features. The Journal of Neurotrauma was the highest-ranked journal with 6,010 citations. A total of 69 articles were published by Michael G Fehlings from the University of Toronto with 6,092 citations. The University of Toronto has published 90-related manuscripts with 7,632 citations. In contrast, 800 articles were published in the United States, with 39,633 citations and total link strength of 5,714. The second-ranked country was China, with 241 published articles and 3,403 citations.ConclusionsThe research published on applying MP in treating SCI has increased with time. Although the United States has made a significant global contribution to this important field of research, it requires rigorous clinical trials designed to verify the therapeutic role of MP in SCI and its appropriate dosage to find solutions for neurological recovery.

Highly Cited Articles in Periacetabular Osteotomy Research.

PurposeThe aim of this study is to identify highly cited articles and examine trends and characteristics in research on periacetabular osteotomy.Materials and MethodsThe 50 most highly cited articles on periacetabular osteotomy research were identified using Scopus. Data regarding article demographics and publication were collected from each article and an analysis was performed.ResultsThe mean citation count was 125±37. The article with the highest total citation count (796), five-year citation count (327), and five-year citation density (65/year) was reported by Reinhold Ganz. The five-year citation density showed strong correlation with total citation density (r=0.930, P<0.001). Reinhold Ganz, the most productive author, was listed on 13 articles in the cohort with 455 weighted citation points.ConclusionThis study provides a collection of articles examining periacetabular osteotomies and demonstrates that citation count can be regarded as an acceptable measure of the contemporary academic influence of an article.

Antimicrobial Stewardship in Surgery: A Literature Bibliometric Analysis.

BackgroundAntimicrobial resistance and the dwindling antibiotic development pipeline have resulted in a looming post-antibiotic era. Research related to antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) has grown rapidly in the past decade, especially in the field of surgery. We conducted a bibliometric analysis of these publications. In addition, we aimed to identify research hotspots and infer future research trends.MethodsWe screened global publications on AMS in the surgical field over ten years (between 2011 and 2020) from the Web of Science core collection database. The keywords “antimicrobial or antibiotic”, “stewardship”, “management”, “management strategies”, “programme”, “surgery” and “surgical” were used to search for related papers. VOS viewer, R software, and other machine learning and visualization tools were used to conduct the bibliometric analysis of the publications.ResultsWe identified 674 publications on AMS in surgical fields; “antimicrobial stewardship” (with total link strength of 1,096) was the most frequent keyword, and had strong links to “antimicrobial resistance” and “guidelines”. The top 100 most cited papers had a mean citation count of 47.21 (range: 17–1155) citations, which were cited by survey research studies, clinical trials, and observational studies. The highest-ranking and most cited journal was Clinical Infectious Diseases with eight publications. Jason G. Newland from Washington University wrote seven papers and was cited 1,282 times. The University of Washington published 17 papers and was cited 1,258 times, with the largest number of publications by author and organization. The USA published 198 papers and cooperated with 21 countries, mainly partnering with Italy, the UK, and Canada. Published articles mainly focused on the current clinical situation regarding surgical AMS management, antibiotic prescription, and antibiotic resistance.ConclusionsPublications on surgical AMS management have increased in recent decades, with the USA being the most prolific. Epidemiological investigations of surgical-related infections, antibiotic prescriptions, and antibiotic resistance are fast-developing research trends. However, further improvements are still needed according to the recommendations gained from the bibliometric analysis.

Bibliometric study of 'overviews of systematic reviews' of health interventions: Evaluation of prevalence, citation and journal impact factor.

Overviews synthesising the results of multiple systematic reviews help inform evidence-based clinical practice. In this first of two companion papers, we evaluate the bibliometrics of overviews, including their prevalence and factors affecting citation rates and journal impact factor (JIF). We searched MEDLINE, Epistemonikos and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR). We included overviews that: (a) synthesised reviews, (b) conducted a systematic search, (c) had a methods section and (d) examined a healthcare intervention. Multivariable regression was conducted to determine the association between citation density, JIF and six predictor variables. We found 1218 overviews published from 2000 to 2020; the majority (73%) were published in the most recent 5-year period. We extracted a selection of these overviews (n= 541; 44%) dated from 2000 to 2018. The 541 overviews were published in 307 journals; CDSR (8%), PLOS ONE (3%) and Sao Paulo Medical Journal (2%) were the most prevalent. The majority (70%) were published in journals with impact factors between 0.05 and 3.97. We found a mean citation count of 10 overviews per year, published in journals with a mean JIF of 4.4. In multivariable analysis, overviews with a high number of citations and JIFs had more authors, larger sample sizes, were open access and reported the funding source. An eightfold increase in the number of overviews was found between 2009 and 2020. We identified 332 overviews published in 2020, which is equivalent to one overview published per day. Overviews perform above average for the journals in which they publish.

Endophthalmitis: a bibliographic review.

To analyze the 100 most cited articles pertaining to endophthalmitis using bibliometric analysis. An all-time Web of Science literature search and refined to peer-reviewed articles in the field of ophthalmology with the keyword "endophthalmitis" was completed. Total citation count of articles published pertaining to endophthalmitis, topic, incidence rate, publishing journals, year published, language, country of origin, number of authors, names of the first and last authors, study type, and number of patients/eyes studied. The top 100 most cited articles pertaining to endophthalmitis had a mean citation count of 362.92, with a range of 175 to 3583. They were published in 20 peer-reviewed journals, with Ophthalmology publishing the most (n = 42). Thirteen different countries were represented, with the majority (n = 77) originating from the USA. The most common study type was clinical experiences (n = 52), though eight of the top ten were clinical trials. The number of patients varied widely, represented by a mean of 9680, but with a median of only 229. The majority (n = 67) examined the incidence of endophthalmitis which included 24 articles after anti-vascular endothelial growth factor injections, 18 after ocular surgeries/procedures, 15 after intraocular steroid injections, eight after chemotoxic drug use, and three after ocular injuries. This bibliographic study serves as a unique historical analysis of the top 100 cited scholarly articles pertaining to endophthalmitis with many of the articles related to post-procedural endophthalmitis.

A bibliometric analysis of the top 50 most cited articles published in the Journal of Conservative Dentistry.

Background:Bibliometric analysis is the quantitative analysis of measurable citation information of a journal. It unveils research topics, publishing trends, assess research impact, and productivity.Aims:The purpose of this study was to conduct a bibliometric analysis to identify and analyze the top 50 most cited articles published in the Journal of Conservative Dentistry (JCD).Methodology:Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science was used to search and identify the 50 most cited scientific papers of JCD. Each article was then cross-matched with Google Scholar and PubMed databases and the mean citation was derived. In addition, citation density for each article was derived to negate the age of publication factor.Statistical Analysis:Shapiro–Wilk test and Kolmogorov–Smirnov test were done to detect departures from normality. For testing and determining correlations among several variables, the Spearman rank test was performed.Results:The top 50 most-cited articles received a total of 6263 (Google Scholar), 323 (PubMed), and 2056 (Web of Science) citations. Major topics of interest in the top 50 most-cited articles were dental material science (n = 18) and carious and noncarious lesion management (n = 14). There was no significant association between mean citation count and time since publication (correlation coefficient = 0.273, P = 0.055). However, there was a significant negative association of citation density (correlation coefficient = −0.647, P < 0.01) with time since publication.Conclusions:Bibliometric analysis of top-cited articles gave valuable insights into journal's research history and progress of the journal concerning dissemination of scholarly work.

Publication rate of abstracts presented at the annual meetings of the AANS/CNS Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves.

The objective of this study was to determine the publication rate of abstracts presented at the annual meetings of the AANS/CNS Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves (Spine Summit). The authors used a search algorithm in PubMed to determine the publication rate of abstracts presented at the Spine Summit from 2007 to 2012. The variables assessed were presentation modality, topic, meeting year, publication year, destiny journal and its 5-year impact factor (IF), country, and citation count (retrieved from the Scopus database). One thousand four hundred thirty-six abstracts were analyzed; 502 were oral presentations and 934 were digital poster presentations. The publication rate was 53.97% (775/1436). The mean time from presentation to publication was 1.35 ± 1.97 years (95% CI 1.21-1.49 years). The mean citation count of published articles was 40.55 ± 55.21 (95% CI 36.66-44.44). Oral presentations had a higher publication rate (71.51%, 359/502) than digital posters (44.54%, 416/934; OR 3.13, 95% CI 2.48-3.95, p < 0.001). Oral presentations had a higher number of citations (55.51 ± 69.00, 95% CI 48.35-62.67) than digital posters (27.64 ± 34.88, 95% CI 24.28-31.00, p < 0.001). The mean IF of published articles was 3.48 ± 2.91 (95% CI 3.27-3.70). JNS: Spine (191/775, 24.64%), Spine (103/775, 13.29%), and Neurosurgery (56/775, 7.23%) had the greatest number of published articles. The US represented the highest number of published articles (616/775, 79.48%). The publication rate of the Spine Summit is among the highest compared to other spine meetings. Many of the abstracts initially presented at the meeting are further published in high-IF journals and had a high citation count. Therefore, the Spine Summit maintains its high standards of scientific papers, which reflects the high quality of the research performed in the spine surgery field in North America.

A bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer of publications on COVID-19.

BackgroundAs a global pandemic, COVID-19 has aroused great concern in the last few months and a growing number of related researches have been published. Therefore, a bibliometric analysis of these publications may provide a direction of hot topics and future research trends.MethodsThe global literatures about COVID-19 published between 2019 and 2020 were scanned in the Web of Science collection database. “COVID-19” “Novel Coronavirus” “2019-nCoV” and “SARS-CoV-2” were used as the keywords to reach the relevant publications. VOSviewer was applied to perform the bibliometric analysis of these articles.ResultsTotally 3,626 publications on the topic of COVID-19 were identified and “COVID-19” with a total link strength of 2,649 appeared as the most frequent keyword, which had a strong link to “pneumonia” and “epidemiology”. The mean citation count of the top 100 most cited articles was 96 (range, 26–883). Most of them were descriptive studies and concentrated on the clinical features. The highest-ranking journal was British medical journal with 211 publications and the most cited journal was Lancet with 2,485 citation counts. Eleven articles written by Christian Drosten from Berlin Institute of Virology have been cited for 389 times and 40 articles from Chinese Academy of Sciences have been cited for 1,597 times which are the most cited author and organization. The number of collaborators with China is 44 and the total link strength is 487. The main partners of China are USA, England and Germany. The published literatures have focused on three topics: disease management, clinical features and pathogenesis.ConclusionsThe current growth trends predict a large increase in the number of global publications on COVID-19. China made the most outstanding contribution within this important field. Disease treatment, spike protein and vaccine may be hotspots in the future.
