In today's digital era, computer-based information and communication technology has influenced various aspects of life including education, it is undeniable. Tribuana Kalabahi University, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Informatics Engineering Study Program Class B, Semester V carried out a Microsoft Power Point training service activity in East Alor District, South Kolana Village, Dusun II Kunatena, an activity that aims to facilitate students in making presentation media that is useful for facilitate learning process with a face-to-face method where students meet directly with students to conduct training, and Q&A. Training participants are divided into groups, each group is accompanied by several students. To determine the success of the program activities that have been implemented, an evaluation is carried out. The evaluation is carried out by giving a small test to determine the level of understanding of students regarding the power point material. The conclusion of this activity is that the service has succeeded in increasing students' knowledge in applying Microsoft Power Point. Students at Kunatena Elementary School feel helped by the training that has been carried out so that they can use laptops. Students gave a very positive response to the activities carried out and considered these activities very useful.

TRAINING A MODERN MATHEMATICS TEACHER: THE EXPERIENCE OF THE YURY FEDKOVYCH CHERNIVTSY NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

The article analyzes research on the issues of readiness of a modern mathematics teacher; the advantages of using innovative technologies over traditional ones by a teacher are presented. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the feasibility of training future mathematics teachers by introducing innovative technologies into the educational process of a higher education institution. Research methods include theoretical – analysis, synthesis, comparison, study of best practices and empirical – pedagogical experiment, expert assessment, testing, questionnaires. It is proven that the main function of innovative technologies is the direct inclusion of students in life itself and the implementation of the doctrine of “lifelong learning”. It is determined that the use of innovations and the application of pedagogical innovative technologies in work is one of the components of the innovative competence of a mathematics teacher. The features of the formation of the readiness of future mathematics teachers for innovative pedagogical activity and the classification of pedagogical technologies that are implemented in their work are presented. The academic disciplines of the educational program of the specialty 014.04 «Secondary education (mathematics)» for the field of knowledge 01 «Education/Pedagogy», which is implemented at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, are considered. As a result of studying professionally oriented disciplines, a complex of innovative teacher competencies is formed. The integration of innovative technologies in mathematics teacher training at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University sets a benchmark for modern education. By fostering competencies such as digital literacy, critical thinking, and adaptability, the university prepares future teachers to navigate the challenges of contemporary classrooms effectively. These advancements contribute to the broader goal of creating a resilient, innovative, and capable educational workforce. Future research and continuous adaptation will further enhance the training process, ensuring alignment with global trends and local needs.

Respons Pertumbuhan Rimpang Bangle (Zingiber purpureum) Pada Perlakuan PGPR (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria)

Bangle (Zingiber purpureum Rosc.) is one of the species of the Zingiberaceae family that has medicinal properties. Secondary metabolites contained in bangle rhizomes have biological activity as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, anti-asthma, anti-aging, neuroprotective, antimicrobial. Environmentally friendly technological innovation to increase soil nutrient content and plant growth in sustainable plant cultivation efforts is by utilizing plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). This study aims to determine the effect of PGPR concentration on the growth of bangle rhizomes. This study was conducted at the Physiology and Development Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University. A completely randomized study design was used with five PGPR concentration treatments (0; 75; 125; 175; and 225 ppm). Data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (Anova) and Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The study showed that PGPR treatment can increase the growth of bangle rhizomes compared to no PGPR treatment. The best results at a PGPR concentration of 175 ppm in increasing the growth of bangle rhizomes.

PELESTARIAN POHON GAHARU DI KAWASAN EKOWISATA HUTAN PUSUK PASS LOMBOK BARAT MELALUI AKSI PENANAMAN DAN PEMUPUKAN BIBIT

The Pusuk Forest Pass is well known as an ecotourism area in West Lombok. In addition to inhabiting by long-tailed monkeys, it is rich in various endemic flora, including the gaharu tree of Gyrinops versteegii species. This tree is one of the attractant of the area. Currently, the population of gaharu tree is very rare so conservation efforts are needed. This community service aims to restore the forest by planting and fertilizing gaharu seedlings in the Pusuk Forest Pass, West Lombok. The activity was carried out using a collaborative action method involving students and lecturers of Biology Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences University of Mataram and the community around the forest. A total of 100 gaharu seedlings were successfully planted and fertilized to enhance their survival rates. The activity went smoothly because of good cooperation among all participants. The expectation of this action is a greater sense of responsibility for the sustainability of gaharu trees in the Pusuk Forest Pass ecotourism area.

Antagonistic Potential of a Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (B. cereus PS1.1, B. cereus PS1.2, B. cereus PS1.4) Against the Patogent Fungus Ganoderma sp. Isolated from Basal Stem of Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) with Rot Disease

Ganoderma sp. is a pathogenic fungus whose attack can cause basal stem rot disease of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.). Disease control using phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB), namely Bacillus cereus can be an alternative to biological control. The purpose of this study was to determine the antagonistic ability of PSB (B. cereus PS1.1, B. cereus PS1.2, B. cereus PS1.4) in inhibiting the growth of Ganoderma sp. BP1 and changes in hyphal morphology of Ganoderma sp. BP1 after antagonistic testing. The research was conducted from January to May 2023 at the Microbiology Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Tanjungpura University, Pontianak. Antagonist testing used a completely randomized design (CRD) with the treatments consisted of Ganoderma sp. BP1 (negative control), 1% hexaconazole fungicide (positive control), PSB isolates PS1.1, PS1.2 and PS1.4. The test method used the dual culture on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) media with each treatment repeated four times so that 20 experimental units were obtained. The results showed that PSB isolate PS1.4 had strong inhibition with an inhibition zone diameter of 11.01 mm, while isolates PS1.1 and PS1.2 had moderate inhibition with inhibition zone diameters of 9.43 mm and 9.45 mm, respectively, against Ganoderma sp. BP1. Hyphal morphology changes in of Ganoderma sp. BP1 that occurred after the antagonist test consist of lysed hyphae, twisted hyphae, hook-like hyphal tips, curly hyphae, bulbous hyphae, branched hyphae and bent hyphal ends.

Диверсифицированные подходы и стратегии формирования инженерного мышления у студентов педагогических вузов

The relevance of this research lies in the need to train highly qualified specialists with engineering thinking. These specialists are crucial for developing the country’s scientific and technical potential. The training of such specialists with a broad and flexible mindset starts from school, where the teacher plays a fundamental role. Objective: the goal of this study is to identify effective methods, approaches, and practices that can be used to develop engineering thinking in future teachers of physics and computer science and application of these methods and practices in the training of graduates from pedagogical universities. Hypothesis: the study hypothesizes that if the educational process in pedagogical universities is based on diverse approaches and strategies, it will contribute to the development of engineering thinking in students. Methods (tools): the research used various methods and tools to address the issue including theoretical research and analysis of publications in scientific journals on the subject of engineering thinking formation, synthesis and methods of logical generalizations, the questionnaire aimed at studying the readiness of future teachers to develop engineering thinking of students (by O. R. Schaefer, T. N. Lebedeva, S. V. Kraineva, and G. S. Kochetkova). Results: by assessing the potential for developing engineering thinking in the training of future teachers, we have described the experience of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science at the South Ural State Humanitarian and Pedagogical University in developing this type of thinking. The survey has shown to what extent intending teachers of physics and computer science are prepared to develop engineering thinking in their students. Main conclusions: using the technological tools available in subject laboratories of techno-parks, models of engineering research, and practice-oriented tasks allows intending teachers of physics and computer science to work more effectively with information that contains engineering solutions. This, in turn, helps them achieve the desired outcomes in developing engineering thinking. Practical Significance: The experience of developing engineering thinking in educational institutions can be applied in teacher training. The results of this research can be used to plan and optimize the system of professional development and retraining for teachers.

Enhancement of Caffeine Concentration in Todolo Coffee Callus Cultures with L-Methionine and UV-Vis Spectrophotometry.

<b>Background and Objective:</b> Todolo coffee (<i>Coffea arabica</i> L. var. typica) is the oldest commercially grown coffee in the Toraja region of South Sulawesi and is currently at risk of extinction. This study aims to induce callus from leaf explants of Todolo arabica coffee and improve the levels of caffeine compounds in Todolo coffee with the additional precursor L-methionine as elicitor. <b>Materials and Methods:</b> This research was conducted at the Tissue Culture Laboratory, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Hasanuddin University. This experimental study used a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) approach. The five stages involved callus induction, elicitation with L-methionine precursor, caffeine extraction, qualitative testing using the Parry Method and quantitative analysis via UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Tools and materials were sterilized using autoclaving and media preparation followed standard procedures with varying L-methionine concentrations. Callus induction from sterilized leaf explants was done under aseptic conditions, followed by L-methionine treatment and caffeine content extraction. Caffeine was analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at 272 nm and statistical analysis was conducted using ANOVA and DMRT at a 5% significance level. <b>Results:</b> The friable callus structure has a shiny and wavy appearance and is more easily detached, which is highly correlated with the speed of callus growth. The callus on the treatment medium is slightly yellowish-white to somewhat brownish, indicating the production of secondary metabolites. The best concentration of L-methionine treatment was 25 mg/L with a percentage of caffeine content of 0.0078%. <b>Conclusion:</b> Results concluded that the addition of L-methionine has a significant effect on the percentage of caffeine production.

Characterizing full-time, non-tenure-track teaching faculty in biology.

Institutions of higher education play a major role in teaching undergraduate students. Historically, most courses have been taught by tenure-track (TT) faculty who may also be responsible for research or scholarly activities. However, a recent shift from "teaching-intensive" TT faculty to "teaching-only" contingent faculty off the tenure track has highlighted the importance of understanding the experiences of contingent faculty. While there have been an increasing number of studies examining the experiences of part-time contingent faculty, few studies have directly surveyed the increasing number of full-time, non-tenure-track (NTT) teaching faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to capture their experiences, nor are we aware of any study that has examined the roles of NTT teaching faculty within one discipline to examine any potential disciplinary differences that may arise across STEM fields. Here, we focus on the experiences of full-time, non-tenure-track faculty in biology whose primary responsibility is teaching. We conducted a random stratified sampling of institutions using the Carnegie classifications to identify potential full-time NTT teaching faculty at over 10% of all institutions in the United States. Our results from surveying these faculty found both positive and negative themes, including (i) NTT teaching faculty being less diverse than the STEM professoriate at large; (ii) NTT teaching faculty reporting mixed feelings on institutional support, identifying a range of opportunities to better support NTT teaching faculty; (iii) NTT teaching faculty often having limited participation in voting for department and institutional matters and reporting mixed feelings of belonging and value; and (iv) NTT teaching faculty having high amounts of autonomy over their teaching but still struggling in key areas. We end with specific implications and recommendations for our field to better support NTT teaching faculty in biology.

University culture in the 19th century through the memoirs of Dean D.F. Belyaev’s daughter

The unpublished memoirs of Zoya Dmitrievna Belyaeva, who was the daughter of D.F. Belyaev (1846–1901), an esteemed Byzantinist and the dean of the Faculty of History and Philology at Kazan Imperial University, reveal how her father’s professional duties were inextricably intertwined with his personal experiences. These reflections not only capture the nuances of the scholar’s everyday life but also share the author’s perspective on the university culture of the late 19th century, thus enriching its history with many new, previously unknown, details and facts. The rhythm and lifestyle of D.F. Belyaev’s family were defined by the university events, corporate rituals, and professional interests. Z.D. Belyaeva skillfully captured the mindset typical of the classical academic community in those times. The celebration of the Emperor’s name day, religious holidays, visits to educational museums, jour fixes were especially important for both the family and the entire university. The descriptions of the interactions among the faculty members flesh out the portrayals of D.F. Belyaev’s colleagues at Kazan University: D.A. Korsakov, F.M. Mishchenko, N.A. Firsov, and D.I. Naguevskii. The social circle of the family included the families of D.I. Dubyago, the dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, and A.S. Nikol’skii, the head of public schools in the Kazan Governorate. D.F. Belyaev enjoyed the favor of K.V. Voroshilov and N.A. Kremlev, the rectors of Kazan Imperial University, as well as N.G. Potapov, the trustee of the Kazan Educational District.

A Growing Willow: The Six Rs Indigenous Research Framework—Stories of the Native American Faculty Journey in STEM*

AbstractNative American faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (NAF‐STEM) disciplines are historically underrepresented. Creating inclusive academia for Indigenous people that typically live and thrive in rural communities requires insights into their personal, relational, and collective experiences. This study was guided by the Six Rs: relationship, respect, responsibility, relevance, representation, and reciprocity, and was informed by Indigenous Research Methodologies. Twelve NAF‐STEM from tribal colleges and non‐tribal institutions were asked to share their perspectives and experiences in seven Research Circles. NAF‐STEM joined sequential hybrid workshops over seven weeks on how to conduct qualitative data analysis. Authors conducted analysis on the transcripts of Research Circles for themes associated with the professional satisfaction and success of NAF‐STEM. Results of the study identified the importance of holistic support systems that remain mindful of both the opportunities and challenges facing NAF‐STEM and emphasize the significance of balancing the need for respectful relationships, adequate representation, shared responsibility, relevance of diversity, and reciprocity in STEM. Through implementation of the Six Rs throughout the research process, the study identified successes, support systems, and challenges of NAF‐STEM at both tribal and non‐tribal colleges and universities. These outcomes can inform institutions to create an equitable and inclusive environment for NAF‐STEM.

Pendalaman Konsep Dalam Rangka Persiapan Kompetisi Bidang Statistika Untuk Siswa Sma Negeri 2 Seram Bagian Barat

Statistics taught at high school level consists of several basic concepts, namely descriptive statistics, combinatorics, and probability theory. Competitions can be an effective tool to encourage students to hone their skills and assess the extent to which the concepts they have learned are applied well. However, until now there is still a gap in student achievement in competitions between Maluku Provinces, due to gaps in students' understanding of basic concepts, especially in the field of Statistics. SMA Negeri 2 Seram Barat, as one of the leading schools in the region, actually has the potential to encourage its students to excel in competitions, but is hampered by an understanding of basic concepts, especially in the field of Statistics, which is still not optimal. The Mathematics Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Pattimura University took the initiative to provide deeper concepts to students at SMA Negeri 2 West Seram as preparation for facing competitions in the field of statistics, by providing effective explanations of the basic concepts of statistics that have been studied at the high school level, as well as enriching them with practice questions at Olympic level. to encourage students to work on questions. This activity aims to help students at SMA Negeri 2 Seram Barat Part in understanding the basic concepts in the field of Statistics, as well as as an example for SMA Negeri 2 Seram Barat teachers in implementing more effective student development strategies in order to prepare for competitions in the field of Statistics that will be participated in in the future. will come.

“Thriving at the Margins”: Understanding Workplace Mistreatment and the Impostor Phenomenon Among Latina Faculty in STEM

ABSTRACT Impostor phenomenon among Latina faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is understudied. Latinas hold only 1.7% of all STEM-related jobs, experiencing both mistreatment (conscious and unconscious; physical, and mental forms of harassment and violence) and impostor phenomenon (feeling like a fraud and the inability to internalize success). Using Crenshaw’s theory of intersectionality, this exploratory study examined how Latina STEM faculty related their impostor phenomenon with interpersonal mistreatment. This qualitative study examined the intersectionality of multiple identities: professional, personal, and cultural, related to their impostor experiences, among 13 participants. One-on-one phone interviews were analyzed inductively. Thematic analysis revealed that interviewees experienced explicit or implicit messaging at work; mistreatment of colleagues and students; and the internalization of mistreatment. Multiple identities (cultural identity as Latina, gender identity, and professional identity as STEM faculty) intersected, contributing to feelings of being marginalized. This is the first study to examine how Latina faculty thrive at the margins, being told that they do not belong in STEM and their minority background got them the position. This study positions impostor phenomenon as more than an internal feeling and critically examines power structures that keep minorities at the periphery.

Design of Digital Lux Meter Based on Arduino Using EL7900 Photodiode Sensor

Aims: To design and manufacture a digital lux meter to the illumination intensity (E) detection tool that is more efficient, relatively cheaper, and can be carried because it has a smaller shape and size compared to tools on the market. Study Design: Design of lux meter digital based on Arduino uno using an EL 7900 sensor. Place and Duration of Study: Physics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University, from June 2024 to September 2024. Methodology: The method used is to design electronic components so that it can become a digital lux meter. The main processor uses Arduino. The microcontroller functions as a data processor which is the output of the EL 7900 sensor. The HC-SR04 sensor is a distance sensor whose function is to measure the distance measured on the design tool. The detection results from the sensor are then processed in the microcontroller and displayed on the OLED. Results: Lux meter digital based on Arduino uno using EL 7900 sensors has been produced. The results of the research show that the further the measurement distance from the light source, the illumination intensity (E) decreases. This research also finds that the illumination intensity will increase if the source power is increased. Based on calibration testing between the design tool and the reference tool, it shows very good results with an error rate of 0.06%. Field test results showed that the level of accuracy of the illumination intensity between the design tool and the reference tool at a distance of 150 cm from the light source with different light source power reached 99.48%. Conclusion: In this research, digital lux meter to the illumination intensity (E) detection tool, relatively cheaper and can be carried because it has a smaller shape and size compared to tools on the market. Based on calibration testing, it shows very good results with an error rate of 0.06%.

Dmitry Nikolaevich Anuchin (1843-1923): becoming a scientist

Introduction. In 2023, Russian science celebrated the 140th anniversary of the birth of D.N. Anuchin, a scientist-encyclopedist and prominent specialist in the fields of anthropology, ethnology, geography, archaeology, and a promoter and popularizer of science. Materials and methods. Literary sources were used. Analytical and chronological research methods were applied in the study. Results and discussion. The section "Childhood and Youth" provides information about the scientist's life, his parents, wife, and children. D.N. received a good home education and entered the second grade of a gymnasium. In 1860, he enrolled in the Faculty of History and Philology at St. Petersburg University. Due to illness in 1861, he had to interrupt his studies and travel abroad for treatment. In 1863, Anuchin entered the Natural Sciences Department of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at Moscow University, specializing in zoology. The section "Young Specialist" is dedicated to Anuchin's life in the first years after graduating from university. It was only in 1871 that Anuchin was elected to the position of scientific secretary of the Society for the Acclimatization of Animals and Plants. This period marks the first scientific publications by Anuchin in the collections "Nature." In 1876, his first major anthropological monograph on the Ainu people was published. In late 1876, D.N. was sent abroad by the university to prepare for the establishment of a new chair in anthropology. The section "Formation of Scientific Interests" shows how Anuchin's scientific interests were shaped, as the author of about 600 works on ethnic anthropology, anthropogenesis, paleontology, ethnography, primitive archaeology, physical geography, country studies, and the history of science. In the next article, the authors plan to examine D.N. Anuchin's scientific and organizational activities.

Comparative Analysis of the Distribution of Natural Lighting with Artificial Lighting in Auditorium at Indonesia University of Education, at Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Building

Abstract This article provides an indepth analysis of the lighting conditions in the auditorium at the Indonesia University of Education, specifically within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The study aims to assess the effectiveness of both natural light from windows and artificial light from lamps in accommodating large gatherings of up to 300 people. Using AutoCAD and DIALux, we conduct a simulation experiment to visualize the lighting system, considering factors such as the distribution of natural light and the impact of artificial lighting. Our methodology involves specific parameters for data analysis to ensure a comprehensive evaluation. While observing the auditorium, we note potential challenges, such as the limited impact of natural light. This finding raises questions about the need for adjustments to the architectural design or the inclusion of additional natural light sources. Conversely, the artificial lighting appears to be abundant and sufficient for illuminating the entire space. Considering the broader implications, the study addresses the significance of optimizing lighting conditions in auditoriums for improved user experience and potential energy efficiency. The findings contribute to the ongoing discourse on effective lighting design in educational spaces. This research is not without limitations, and future work could explore more nuanced aspects of lighting design or investigate the feasibility of implementing sustainable lighting solutions. In conclusion, this study offers valuable insights into auditorium lighting, guiding future research and practical interventions for enhanced lighting conditions in similar settings.

Evaluation of Auditorium Acoustics in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Bandung.

Abstract As a space whose function is prioritized for speeches, the auditorium must respond well to acoustics so that listeners get audibly comfortable when listening to speakers speak. In this study, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Auditorium located in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences will be simulated to determine the acoustic quality of the auditorium. The method used is simulation using Ecotect software. The simulation is done by creating a 3D model and inputting several parameters, such as the absorption coefficient of the material used in the auditorium and the placement of speakers in it. This simulation determines the reverberation time, the initial decay time, or how long the room muffles the sound after the sound source stops, and the sound distribution produced by the sound source or speaker in the room. Based on the simulation results, the acoustic quality of the JICA auditorium is good. This is due to several factors, such as the selection of materials with a high absorption coefficient on the back wall and the shape of the room design, which uses geometric shapes with zigzag patterns on the ceiling and walls, as well as the slope used on the floor and ceiling.

Pursuing the successful previous seminar, it is our great honour to hold the 13th International Physics Seminar 2024 (IPS 2024). IPS is an annual meeting hosted by the Physics and Physics Education Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), supported by the Physical Society of Indonesia (PSI) Jakarta and Banten. The IPS 2024 was conducted on June 1, 2024, in Latief Hendradiningrat Hall at campus site of UNJ, Jakarta, Indonesia. The theme of the seminar is “Physics for Sustainable Future”. This seminar aims to bring together academics, scientists, students, and practitioners to share and discuss theoretical and practical knowledge of problems, new physics trends, and applications. We invited scientists, scholars, engineers, and students from universities worldwide and industry to present ongoing research activities and to support fostering research relations between the university and industry. This seminar provides an opportunity for delegates to discuss and share their experience of new applications directly, to build business or research relationships, and to find global partners for future collaboration. Evaluation of Faculty of Mathematics and Science Education’s Auditorium Audial Quality at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia in Bandung, Indonesia

Abstract Auditorium is a large-capacity room that is suitable for various activities. Due to the function itself, the auditorium needs a great audial quality so it can fulfill the user needs and ensure that the noises will not interrupt the event that was held inside the auditorium. Noise is an unwanted sound that will make the receiver feel uncomfortable or even disturbed when carrying out their activities, and it is one of the important factors to consider when designing a building or facility with the aim that the users of the building or facility can use it comfortably in accordance with the purpose of its creation. The main purpose of this research is to determine that the audial quality in the Auditorium room of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science Educations at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia in Bandung has met the standard level of comfort according to the standard from KEP-48/MENLH/11/1996. The result from this research is the auditorium has a good result of noise level and is already in line with the standard level. Research using the method of measuring the decibel of the noise source with Decibel X, then analyzed the results with Noisetools.net to get the noise level that has been received by the receiver and using IBANA-Calc software to analyze the final noise level.
