Contextualized and localized up-to-Date Data Driven Lesson Materials in Statistics and Probability

Statistics and Probability has always been one of the most challenging subjects introduced through a spiral approach in the implementation of K-12 Education Curriculum. A stigma that has been apparent long before the COVID-19 Pandemic. But has become more evident for both the learners and teachers during distance learning. The researcher therefore aims to provide an intervention that is applicable even during situations of mandatory implementation of distance learning modalities. Specifically for schools who have no access to online learning modalities. The researcher used Contextualized and Localized Up-to-Date Data Driven Lesson Materials in Statistics and Probability to Grade 11 GAS learners of San Antonio National High School (SANHS) for SY 2022-2023. The materials were developed by the researcher and includes data from the school. Two materials were used in teaching the following competencies: (a) Calculates the mean and the variance of a discrete random variable M11/12SP-IIIb-2; (b) Interprets the mean and the variance of a discrete random variable M11/12SP-IIIb-3; and (c) Solves problems involving mean and variance of probability distributions M11/12SP-IIIb-4. The study also includes presenting how these Contextualized and Localized Up-to-Date Data Driven Lesson Materials have affected the attitudes of the respondents towards Statistics & Probability using the Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics – 36 (SATS-36) by Schau, 2003. The conduct of this action research therefore aimed to answer the following research questions: (1) What contextualized and localized up-to-date data driven lesson materials can be used in teaching Statistics & Probability for the following Most Essential Competencies: (a) Calculates the mean and the variance of a discrete random variable. M11/12SP-IIIb-2; (b) Interprets the mean and the variance of a discrete random variable. M11/12SP-IIIb-3; (c) Solves problems involving mean and variance of probability distributions. M11/12SP-IIIb-4. (2) What is the attitude towards Statistics & Probability of Grade-11 GAS students before and after using the developed lesson materials? (3) What are the effects of the developed lessons materials on the students’ academic performance on the chosen competencies? Results of the action research conducted from August – October are as follows: (1) two contextualized and localized up-to-date data driven lesson materials were developed in teaching the following competencies: (a) Calculates the mean and the variance of a discrete random variable M11/12SP-IIIb-2; (b) Interprets the mean and the variance of a discrete random variable M11/12SP-IIIb-3; and (c) Solves problems involving mean and variance of probability distributions M11/12SP-IIIb-4. (2) The Grade 11-GAS learners showed improvement towards their attitudes towards statistics and probability. Specifically in terms of affect, cognitive competence, difficulty, interest, and effort. (3) The developed contextualized and localized up- to-date data driven lesson materials have improved the academic performance of the Grade 11- GAS learners. Specifically, with reference to the administered teacher-made pre/post-test, the respondents showed increase in performance level to each of the three competencies. But such increases performance level was not enough for the respondents to achieve mastery level. Hence, the results suggests that there is a need to further improve the developed materials.

The Analysis of Students’ Grammar Mastery in Tenses at SMK Sinar Husni Medan

This research aims to analyse the level of students' grammar mastery in tenses at SMK Sinar Husni Medan. The study focuses on evaluating students' proficiency in understanding and applying grammatical tenses, a crucial aspect of language learning. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data through assessments and qualitative insights gathered from interviews and observations. The sample comprises twelfth grade students in SMK Sinar Husni Medan. Data was collected from tests, classroom observations, and interviews with both students and teachers. Qualitative data are gathered through classroom observations and interviews with students and teachers. Observations focus on instructional methods, classroom dynamics, and students' engagement with grammar-related activities. Interviews with students explore their perceptions in learning grammar, while teacher interviews provide insights into the teaching methodologies employed. The findings of this research contribute to the knowledge on language education, specifically in the context of grammar mastery in tenses. The results can inform educators about the effectiveness of current teaching methods. Additionally, the study may shed light on individual and contextual factors influencing students' grammar proficiency, thus providing valuable insights for future language education strategies. Ultimately, this research aims to enhance the quality of language education at SMK Sinar Husni Medan and contribute to the broader discourse on effective language teaching and learning strategies.

An Analysis on the Students’ Mastery in Using Preposition in, on, at

The purpose of this research to analyze of students’ mastery in using preposition (in, on and at) and also concerned the problems faced for students’ mastery on using preposition (in, on and at). This research used qualitative research. The writer chose the Eleventh Grade students of SMKN 1 Bangkinang kota. The respondents are 36 students. Based on the result of the test, the writer conclude that the profile of students’ mastery such as: 3 students out of 36 students the level of preposition mastery is “good” and the percentage is 8,3%, 11 students or out of 36 students is “enough” and the percentage 30,5%, 21 students or out of 36 students is “poor” and the percentage is 58,3%, and 1 students or out of 36 students is “Failed” and the percentage is 2,7%”. The problems faced of students’ mastery are: the students confused to answer the question on using preposition (in, on, and at). They do not understand the differences of each preposition. Because it has similar meaning. Which explain the time and place. Students are less concerned when they to use in, on or at because they think it is less attention when talking directly. The problem that is caused by the language transfer. In contrary, this study concern with that rules. And they usually used generalization or ordinary usage without saw the context of sentence.

The Implementation of Bahasa Inggris Pemula In Enhancing Students’ Vocabulary Mastery Improving

The purpose of this study was to determine the increase in vocabulary of class XI students through the implementation of bahasa inggris pemula applications at SMK Negeri 4 Palopo City, with a quantitative approach and a single group pretest posttest type of research. The data analysis technique used in this study is the t test. The results showed that the significance value of the t-test was less than 0.05, namely 0.000, and the t-count results were greater than t-table, namely t-count with a value of 5.080, which was greater than the t-table value of 2.093. Thus it was concluded that there was an effect of using Bahasa Inggris Pemula applications on the level of students' English vocabulary mastery.

Development Of Learning Media Using Geogebra on Class Viii Cartesian Field Material at SMP Negeri 2 Pematang Siantar

This research aims (1) to describe the level of validity of mathematics learning media using Geogebra on the Cartesian Plane material, (2) to assess the mastery level of teachers and the students' engagement using Geogebra on the Cartesian Plane material, and (3) to explore educators' and students' responses to the development of mathematics learning media using Geogebra on the Cartesian Plane material at SMP Negeri 2 Pematang Siantar. The research design employed is Research and Development, following the ADDIE model consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Based on the material validation results, it falls into the highly valid category with an average of 60.5, situated in the interval 54.6 ? VR < 65. Similarly, media validation is deemed valid with an average of 82, falling within the interval 68 ? VR < 84. The validated learning media was then implemented in the teaching process. Data analysis revealed that the teacher's mastery level averaged 92, categorized as practical within the interval 74.8 ? PR < 92.4. Additionally, during the trial, the students' engagement level averaged 47, falling in the interval 44.2 ? P < 54.6. The effectiveness of the developed learning media is evidenced by the students' achievement in the eighth-grade class at SMP Negeri 2 Pematang Siantar. Out of 30 students, 25 students achieved a passing grade with a percentage of 83.4%, while 5 students did not pass, constituting 16.6%. The developed learning media meets practical criteria, receiving highly positive responses from students with an average response rate of 94.97% and positive feedback from teachers with an average response rate of 82%.

The Impact of Research Methodology and Statistics Mastery on the Quality of Student Theses in Elementary School Teacher Education Department

Thesis is one of the biggest challenges for students. This is because students often do not understand the method of writing a thesis as a scientific paper. This research was carried out to examine the mastery of research methodology and statistics on the quality of student thesis. The research method used in this study is quantitative research. The results of this study then found a positive and very significant relationship between mastery of educational research methodology material and the quality of the thesis. Then a positive and very significant relationship was also found between the level of student mastery of the statistics course material and thesis quality. Finally, the hypothesis testing concluded that between the variables of student mastery of research methodology material and statistics course material, there was a positive and very significant relationship with the thesis quality of university students.

Peningkatan Kualitas Hasil Belajar Pembelajaran Ipa Materi Interaksi Makhluk Hidup Dengan Lingkungan Melalui Model Discovery Learning Pada Siswa Kelas Vii (Tujuh) Semester Genap Smp Negeri 1 Simpang Teritip Kabupaten Bangka Barat Tahun Pelajaran 2021/202

Based on observations made by researchers in science learning in class VII of SMP Negeri 1 Simpang Teritip, there are still many weaknesses in the implementation of science learning. Teachers are less likely to involve students in the learning process, but teachers are more likely to use lectures that only require memory and memorization without developing insight into thinking and problem solving which allows students to learn more actively. The level of mastery of material by students is still low as evidenced by the learning results of 25 students with KKM (Material Completeness Criteria) > 75, there are 13 students or 55.56% of students who got a score below the KKM with a minimum score of 50. Based on the background that has been explained, then the problem formulation is obtained as follows. Can the use of the Discovery Learning model improve science learning outcomes regarding the interaction of living things with the environment for class VII students at SMP Negeri 1 Simpang Teritip? Implementation time for Strengthening Teaching Skills starts from March 28 2022 until 2022. June 5 2022 in the second semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. The results of Cycle 1 learning improvement showed the following results: 16 students got a score of less than 75, 11 students got a score greater than 75, and the student completion rate was 40.74%. In Cycle 2 there were 12 students who got a score less than 75, 15 students got a score greater than 75, and the student completion rate was 55.56%. In cycle 3, 2 students got a score less than 75, 25 students got a score greater than 75, and the student completion rate was 92.59%. The conclusion from writing this PTK is that the application of the recitation method using image media appropriately can improve learning outcomes.

Students Talking Time (STT) Technique to Elevate Speaking Skills in Senior High School Students

This study investigates the efficacy of the Student Talking Time (STT) technique in enhancing the speaking skills of second-year senior high school students. Employing a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach based on Kurt Lewin's cyclic design, the study comprises four phases: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Data collection methods include observations, questionnaires, and tests. The findings indicate successful implementation of the STT technique, meeting predefined criteria for success. In the diagnostic test, 12.5% of students achieved the minimal mastery level criterion of Indonesian school, rising to 43.75% in the first cycle's post-test and a remarkable 75% in the second cycle's post-test. Observations reveal increased student confidence and active participation in class discussions and conversations, reflecting improved speaking skills. Questionnaire results indicate high student interest (69.68%) in using the STT technique for speaking practice, with students acknowledging enhancements in their speaking abilities. In conclusion, this study demonstrates the effectiveness of the STT technique in enhancing the speaking skills of senior high school students, as evidenced by improved test scores, heightened confidence, and strong student interest in this teaching approach.

Students’ appropriation of collaboration script in a networked class: an exploratory study

ABSTRACT This study investigates the role of a collaboration script, the Funnel Model, in supporting students’ computer-supported collaborative scientific argumentation, and how the students appropriated the collaboration script in scientific argumentation. In this exploratory case study, a class of 33 Secondary grade four students went through four phases of computer-supported collaborative argumentation activity scripted by the Funnel Model: individual ideation, intra-group synergy, inter-group critique and intra-group refinement. Multiple sources of data were collected including student-generated artefacts online at different phases of collaboration, and the post-intervention interviews with the students. The results show that the Funnel Model facilitated students’ computer-supported collaborative argumentation. The students’ levels of content mastery, motivation, classroom culture and time allocated for classroom participation affect students’ appropriation of the script for effective collaborative argumentation.

Library Reading as a Catalyst for Teachers’ Performance and Competency Improvement

The questions to be investigated in this research are as follows. (a) How do teachers' skills and performance improve when applying attention to bibliographic reading? b) What is the impact on teacher competence and productivity after maintaining enthusiasm and interest in learning? Furthermore, the objectives of this research are as follows. (a) After increasing interest in reading study guides in the library, the level of understanding and mastery of skills and teacher performance is known. (b) Want to know what impact your library will have on implementing educational promotions to increase interest in reading. This research uses two stages of action research. Each round consists of four stages: design, action and observation, reflection and iteration. This object is the MTs Islamiyah YPI Batang Kuis teacher. The data obtained is presented in the form of formative test results and study and learning activity management sheets. One. With the introduction of a program development model to organize the hobby of reading reference books in the library into educational effectiveness and comfort, new experience was gained in implementing the program and making education implementation plans for MTs Islamiyah YPI Batang Kuis teachers.

Assessment of the Level of Mastery of the Practical Skill “Providing Emergency Care for Limb Injuries”

The authors present their own experience of studying the level of mastery of clinical and practical skills according to the algorithm “Providing emergency care for injuries of the extremities” among junior and senior students using simulation training equipment. As a result of the study, it was revealed that students’ level of mastery of practical skills increases, helps stimulate professionalism, increase the level of clinical thinking, sustainability of acquired knowledge and close interaction with the teacher as a tutor, facilitator and mentor.

Performance Tasks-Enriched Material in Cookery 9 for Enhancing the Practical Skills of Students

The purpose of this study is to improve the practical skills of students in Cookery 9- Prepare Sandwiches by evaluating the effectiveness of a researcher-created learning material that will assist in addressing a low level of performance skills in Cookery 9.The Pearson-Product Moment Correlation was used whether there is a significant relationship between the Performance Tasks-Enriched Materials and the level of proficiency in Practical Skills of the student-respondents in Cookery 9. Further, descriptive-developmental research was used in this study for the acceptance level of the designed performance tasks-enrich intervention materials using the perception of the respondents and the student's proficiency after using the performance tasks-enriched materials. Data were collected from 35 Grade 9 - Cattleya students enrolled in Callejon National High School from 2022-2023 using a pretest and posttest, performance task-enriched material, and a survey questionnaire. According to the findings, the students were generally proficient in their practical skills in Cookery 9. They perceived the performance task-enriched material to be effective in terms of perform mise’en place, prepare variety of sandwiches, present variety of sandwiches and store sandwiches. Their level of mastery, as well as their perception of effectiveness, are significantly related to their pre- and post-test scores. After using the developed material, the learners progressed from the beginning and developing level of performance to approaching proficiency and proficient levels. These findings imply that performance task-enriched material in students' performance tasks improved their practical skills..

Better caregiver mastery is associated with less anxiety in individuals with cognitive impairment

BackgroundWhen caregivers have a high level of caregiver mastery, their care recipients with cognitive impairment have less behavioral health problems. However, the relationship between caregiver mastery and anxiety among care recipients over time is unknown. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine that better caregiver mastery is associated with less anxiety in individuals with cognitive impairment over time.MethodsA secondary data analysis was conducted using the Healthy Patterns Clinical Trial (NCT03682185) dataset and guided by Factors Associated with Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia conceptual framework. This study included 154 dyads of individuals with cognitive impairment and their caregivers. Multiple linear regression analyses were performed on changes in anxiety. Model 1 included variables at the level of neurodegeneration (i.e., cognitive impairment and age). Model 2 added patient factors (i.e., sleep problems and depression) with the Model 1. Finally, Model 3 included caregiver factor (i.e., caregiver mastery) with the Model 2 to examine how changes in caregiver mastery influence changes in anxiety of care recipients.ResultsModel 3 was statistically significant; after controlling for variables at the level of neurodegeneration associated with cognitive impairment and patient factors, improvement of caregiver mastery over time (β =-0.230, p = 0.015) was related to decreased anxiety over time (R2 = 0.1099).ConclusionsCaregivers with high caregiver mastery may have better knowledge on how to care for their loved ones and how to manage their neuropsychiatric symptoms. Therefore, improving the level of caregiver mastery by providing psychoeducational programs and resources that family caregivers need will help reduce the frequency of anxiety in individuals with cognitive impairment.

Assessing Students’ Mastery and Misconceptions in the Fundamental Operations on Integers

One of the common misconceptions affecting mathematics performance of high school students involves operating integers. Evidently, students who were exposed to modular learning demonstrate poor mastery of the pre-requisite skills. This study aimed to assess the mastery level and misconceptions of the Grade 7 students involving operations on integers. A descriptive research design was used with a total of sixty-two (62) conveniently chosen Grade 7 students were twenty-nine (29) were males and thirty-three (33) were females. The Mean Percentage Scores (MPS) per operation on integers were calculated to describe the mastery level and the assessment results were analyzed to identify possible misconceptions of the students in operating integers. Similarly, data were analyzed using the Welch t-Test to determine if there is a difference in the level of mastery between the male and female students. Findings show that the overall MPS result is 50.56%, indicating that the students demonstrated Average Near Mastery (AVR) of the concepts involving operations on integers. In addition, there was no significant difference between the mastery level of male and female grade 7 students. Although the students demonstrated Average Near Mastery (AVR) in the given assessment, the item analysis showed various misconceptions and errors exhibited by the students regardless of sex and section. Students’ misconceptions include subtracting integers and dealing with negative numbers. Hence, an intervention is needed to address the misconceptions in subtracting integers and a reinforcement is proposed to enhance the students’ mastery in other operations on integers.

Research Methodology Mastery for Conducting an Islamic Studies Undergraduate Final-Year Project at UiTM Shah Alam

The acquisition of research methodology is a crucial competency typically attained by seasoned scholars in academia. However, it is necessary to assess the level of research methodology proficiency among undergraduate students to adequately prepare them for the completion of their final year project, which is a mandatory component for graduation. This study aimed to examine the mastery level of research methodology in preparation for conducting an undergraduate final-year project. The study included a sample of respondents (n=228) who were final-year students in Islamic studies at UiTM Shah Alam. An online questionnaire was employed as a tool for data collection, while IBM SPSS Statistics was used for data analysis. The data underwent analysis using descriptive statistics and the Friedman test. The descriptive statistics indicates “information management” (Good: 53.9 percent, Excellent: 32 percent) as the highest frequency of mastery level compared to “instrumentation procedure”, and “sampling technique” mastery level. The Friedman test indicates a significant difference in “information management” (mean rank: 2.56) which is better than “sampling technique” (mean rank: 1.66) and “instrumentation procedure” (mean rank: 1.77) with χ2(2)137.1, ρ<.05. This study suggests that there is a need for improvement in the aspects of research methodology, specifically in “sampling techniques” and “instrumentation procedures”, particularly among undergraduate students in the field of Islamic studies. This study proposes the implementation of effective pedagogical strategies and a comprehensive curriculum to enhance proficiency in research methodology for future academic pursuits.

Keterampilan Proses Sains Siswa Jurusan IPA Beberapa SMA Di Yogyakarta

This research is quantitative research that aims to determine the extent of mastery of science process skills of grade XI students of the Science Department in four high schools in Yogyakarta and find out the differences in mastery of science process skills of grade XI students of the Science Department in four high schools in Yogyakarta. The subjects of this study were 127 grade IX students majoring in science in several high schools in Yogyakarta. The results showed that the mastery level of students majoring in science at four high schools in Yogyakarta was still at a sufficient level. There are significant differences in the level of mastery of science process skills from science majors from the four schools used as research sites. Mastery of science process skills of science students majoring in the aspect of identifying variables still needs improvement while mastery of science process skills in defining variables operationally, and designing research / experiments is still at a sufficient level. The ability to present/interpret data and formulate hypotheses is a skill that students master well.Keywords: Science Process Skills, Science Major Students

UPAYA MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN PEMECAHAN MASALAH SISWA KELAS VII B SMP NEGERI 2 SALATIGA PADA MATERI PENYAJIAN DATA MELALUI MODEL PROBLEM BASED LEARNING (PBL)

This study aims to enhance students' problem-solving skills and learning outcomes on data presentation and interpretation in the form of pie charts and measures of the center of the data in the single data. This research is a collaborative classroom action research (PTKK). The study employs the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model, conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Salatiga in class VII B with 32 students. The results indicate an improvement in students' problem-solving abilities for each indicator. In cycle I, the student's ability to understand the problem was 36.2 %, which increased by 42.2 % to 78.4 % in cycle II. Furthermore, students' making a plan skill in cycle I was 51.2 %, increasing by 26.9 % to 78.1 % in cycle II. The student's ability to execute the plan increased by 19.6 % from 55.7 % in cycle I to 75.3 % in cycle II. The student's ability to look back and reflect in cycle I was 42.2 %, and in cycle II, it was 75 %, an increase of 32.8 %. The study also showed an improvement in learning outcomes. In cycle I, the classical student mastery level was 40.6 %, with an average learning outcome of 67.2. In contrast, in cycle II, the classical student mastery level was 75 %, with an average learning outcome of 78.2. In this case, the classical student mastery level increased by 34.4 %, with an average student learning outcome increase of 11. Based on these results, the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model can enhance students' problem-solving abilities

Development of a formative assessment instrument to determine students’ need for corrective actions in physics: Identifying students’ functional level of understanding

In physics education, most teachers provide students feedback on their problem solutions through grades on written tests. The practice of feedback after a summative test does not often meet the needs of many students to improve their problem solving. In this paper we report on the development of a formative assessment instrument to allow teachers to provide more meaningful action-oriented feedback on students’ performance on written tests.Our research and development approach comprised three phases.The first phase consisted of a literature guided cognitive analysis of effective problem-solving strategies in the physics domain. This analysis resulted in the identification of three crucial episodes in students’ problem-solving approaches during which students engage in specific cognitive activities. The second phase consisted of the design of an assessment instrument to monitor specific cognitive activities during the three crucial episodes when solving physics problems. This resulted in a rating scale with 11 levels to indicate students’ efficacy. The third phase consisted of research of the validity, reliability, and practicality of the instrument. Here we trained three teachers to trace students’ mistakes on different problems in the domain of kinematics and asked them to rate the mastery of 16 eleventh-grade pre-university students. In this phase we assessed the reliability and validity of this instrument by computing Krippendorff's alpha to indicate teachers’ inter-rater reliability. Practicality of the instrument was assessed by examining the variation in students’ level of mastery on problems of different complexity. Further research is needed to provide more detailed guidelines for how teachers can use the instrument in formative assessment (in contrast to summative assessment) to help students to develop correct solution methods and foster students’ metacognition about problem solving in related physics areas (i.e., knowledge transfer).

Online occupational therapy in the caregivers of people with Multiple sclerosis: a randomized control trial

Purpose Caregivers of people with Multiple sclerosis (MS) face various challenges in the occupations of daily lives. We investigated the effect of an online occupational therapy program on the mastery and performance in caregivers of people with MS. Method In a single-blind randomized controlled trial twenty-four eligible caregivers of people with MS participated in the control and an occupational therapy group program. Caregivers completed The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) and the Relative Mastery Scale (RMS) before and after the intervention and one-month later. Findings The level of performance, satisfaction and mastery were significantly improved in the intervention group after the intervention (p<.001) and there were significant differences in performance and satisfaction scores between the groups (p<.001). Implications Online Occupational therapy shows promising results in facilitating the adaptation process and improving caregivers’ performance and satisfaction levels. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION Caregivers of people with multiple sclerosis face various challenges when engaging in their daily occupations. Managing the challenges faced by caregivers as essential members of the treatment team contributes to improving their performance level in daily occupations and can finally enhance the quality of treatment interventions for patients. Online delivery can overcome caregivers’ time constraints for attendance in the treatment centers for training. Online occupational therapy can enhance mastery, occupational performance level, and satisfaction, and is recommended for caregivers of people with multiple sclerosis.

A key to recovery for working mothers? Psychological detachment and the roles of relaxation, mastery and control on boundary violations

PurposeThis study aims to incorporate theory on effort-recovery and stressor-detachment models to examine the roles of relaxation, mastery and types of control on the relationship between psychological detachment from work and boundary violations at home.Design/methodology/approachThis study analyzes data from two time points using a sample of 348 working mothers recruited from Prolific.FindingsWorking moms who psychologically detach from work have less work boundary violations at home. There are mixed findings on whether and when the other types of recovery experiences moderate the relationship between psychological detachment and boundary violations at home. Relaxation, control after work and job autonomy do not moderate the effect while mastery and boundary control do. Specifically, psychological detachment is more effective as reducing boundary violations at home for working moms who have (1) low levels of mastery and (2) high levels of boundary control.Practical implicationsWorking mothers juggle multiple roles and often have increased stress and less time to manage the two domains. The findings of this study illustrate whether and when psychological detachment from work acts as a key to recovery from work-based stressors.Originality/valueMuch of the research on recovery experiences is based on employees without consideration of motherhood status. Further, scholars have not examined the combinative potential of recovery experiences. Finally, examining control over both domains (vs. one domain) adds precision to the literature.
