Straw Craftsmanship from Port of Sauípe-BA: Possibility of Become a Geographic Indication

Objective: Present the potential of the Geographical Indication for straw handicrafts from Porto de Sauípe – Bahia based on the Methodology for Identifying Potential Brazilian Geographical Indications, developed by the Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae). Theoretical Framework: The article shows some reports that provide information about the history and context of straw crafts in Porto de Sauípe, including local traditions and the role of artisans in the production of the products. Method: The research has a qualitative approach with data collection through bibliographic survey and interviews with local artisans. Results and Discussion: The results showed that the Porto de Sauípe region has factors that provide a quality product (handicrafts) with unique characteristics. The handicrafts have market potential, notoriety and great socioeconomic importance for local artisans. One of the main restrictions for the Geographical Indication is related to the criteria that require more attention, such as governance, research involved and vision of the future. Research Implications: The research makes it possible to analyze the potential of Geographical Indications in other regions that have potential for manufacturing products with notoriety and requirements for registration. Originality/Value: The study provides support to academics and artisans in Brazil, demonstrating the importance of the piassava production chain for maintaining crafts and generating local employment and income.

The Benefits of Redefining a Round of Golf: An Analysis Based on Leisure Constraints Theory

The golf industry plays an important role in the economy. However, shifts in the marketplace have created challenges for the industry. The purpose of this research is to discover potential marketing strategies to recruit and retain golfers that focus on eliminating leisure constraints. Using a survey, this research asked golfers about their interests in playing different golf course configurations instead of the traditional 18 holes. Results show that a majority of participants prefer shorter rounds. The results of this study can assist golf course owners in developing marketing strategies that remove leisure constraints for consumers, therefore increasing participation and profitability.

Consumer preferences toward new circular bioeconomy agri‐food products

AbstractThe integration of circular bioeconomy (CB) principles into food production is key for a sustainable food sector. This research analyzes consumers' preferences for food products that include CB‐related attributes; namely, zero (plastic/bio) waste generation, carbon neutrality, sustainable water use and soil management, biodiversity conservation, and contribution to the rural economy. A novel approach is applied, combining best‐worst scaling choice experiments with contingent valuation and using a scale‐adjusted latent class model specification. The results reveal consumers have intense preferences for CB attributes in food, especially those related to plastic waste management, sustainable water use, rural development, and biodiversity. Four different consumer classes are identified according to their preferences toward CB attributes (Eco‐multifunctionals, Utilitarians, Sustainable agrarians, and Circulars—the latter two newly identified here). Willingness to pay varies by attribute and class. Relevant implications are drawn for businesses, especially about potential differentiation marketing strategies.

Sustainable Operations of Online and Offline Restaurants: Focusing on Multi-Brand Restaurants

This study investigates the sustainable operations of a multi-brand restaurant that adopts multiple brands in a store, unlike a typical restaurant that operates only a single brand. We introduce five restaurant operation models, including three traditional single-brand ones (offline, online, and multi-channel) and two recent multi-brand restaurants with a single fixed franchise fee and multiple franchise fees proportional to the number of brands. We then investigate the performance of the models in the changing market and cost environments. Through analytical and numerical analyses, we reveal that adopting a multi-brand restaurant does not always guarantee superior profit performance. Such an adoption is recommended under certain conditions, such as when the potential market base is large, consumers are not very price-sensitive, food and delivery costs are low, an increase in food items does not significantly impact process inefficiency, franchise fees are low, or the relative market power of multiple brands is strong. Otherwise, adopting the traditional single-brand restaurant would guarantee better profit performance. Therefore, for a sustainable multi-brand restaurant adoption, it is important to create a business environment that can lower food prices, and a thorough understanding of the decision dynamics related to the number of brands is required.

Efektivitas Studi Kelayakan Bisnis dalam Meningkatkan Penjualan Kentang di Koperasi Aspi Daranata Agro Priangan

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of business feasibility studies in improving potato sales at the Aspi Daranata Agro Priangan Cooperative. Conducting feasibility assessments plays a pivotal role in the growth and expansion of cooperative businesses, but their impact on cooperative performance has not been widely studied. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observation and documentation. The results show that the business feasibility study conducted by the Aspi Daranata Agro Priangan Cooperative was effective in increasing potato sales. This is reflected in increased sales volume, expanded market reach and increased member satisfaction. Through the feasibility study, the cooperative can identify market potential, evaluate marketing strategies and allocate resources more optimally. The insight gained from this work highlights the requirement to empower the skills of cooperatives in conducting business feasibility studies on a regular basis to support business sustainability and member welfare.

Online Retailing with Key Opinion Leaders and Product Returns

Key opinion leaders (KOLs) play a crucial role in marketing because of their potential fan market and influence. We analytically study whether a seller should cooperate with a key opinion leader (KOL) by considering the KOL’s two effects: first, the KOL’s existence will increase the number of consumers who are aware of the product; second, a more positive (negative) product review from the KOL will increase (decrease) consumers’ prepurchase belief in product valuation. After buying the product, consumers will realize their actual product valuation, based on which they decide to return or keep the product. We find that when the product valuation posted in the KOL’s product review is exogenous, a more positive review from the KOL benefits the seller but can harm the KOL. As the consumer’s hassle cost of product return increases, both the seller and the KOL can be better off. If the positivity of the KOL’s product review is high, the KOL’s existence will benefit the seller and harm the consumers. Moreover, if the KOL can strategically make the marketing effort to increase their popularity, their marketing effort will decrease as their product review becomes more positive. If the KOL can strategically choose how they present the product, i.e., when the product valuation posted in the KOL’s product review is endogenous, their product review will be less positive than the product review that maximizes the system’s profit, i.e., the total profit of the KOL and the seller. The model extension shows that the result is robust.

Chemical and sensory characteristics of lingonberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) alcoholic beverages produced using Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Torulaspora delbrueckii and Metschnikowia pulcherrima yeasts

Even though lingonberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) is categorised as a superfruit due to its bioactive composition, its challenging flavour profile leads to difficulty in valorisation. In addition, fermentation of lingonberry is limited due to presence of the antimicrobial benzoic acid. This study employed baker’s yeast mediated benzoic acid decrease, followed by conventional (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and non-conventional (Torulaspora delbrueckii and Metschnikowia pulcherrima) fermentation to produce alcoholic lingonberry beverages. Profiling of the lingonberry alcoholic beverages was done through characterisation of volatile compounds with GC-MS and of sensory properties with a semi-trained panel. The benzoic acid decrement step was successful in reducing the content from 0.66 g/L to 0.04 g/L. Alcoholic beverages were created with an average alcohol content of 7.34% (±0.26). There were increments in the ester- and alcohol- odours alongside a decrease in the original lingonberry flavour. This was supported by higher contents of esters and higher alcohols along with a decrease of certain terpenes in alcoholic beverages. All alcoholic beverages were perceived as notably sour and thus, only minor differences were observed between the used yeasts. In particular, M. pulcherrima yeast produced a sweeter and less sour alcoholic beverage compared to the original juice. Overall, benzoic acid reduction facilitates in yeast fermentation to improve market potential of the underutilised berry in alcoholic beverage production.

The pursuit of supply chain harmony underscores the significance of pricing strategies within the framework of dual-channel distribution, particularly when confronted with the dynamics of asymmetric demand performance.Design/methodology/approachThis paper delves into a nuanced decision-making challenge anchored in a dual-channel distribution context featuring a retailer and two distinct products. Notably, the retailer’s decision-making process employs the computational framework of dual grey numbers, a robust tool for handling uncertainty.FindingsThis study revolves around applying game theory to manufacturers. Each manufacturer presents its aggregated price proposition to the retailer. Subsequently, the retailer identifies the optimal pricing configuration among the manufacturers' aggregate prices while adhering to constraints such as spatial classification and inventory costs. This article’s contribution extends to delineating the retailer’s capacity to discern the influence of product market potential and the aggregate product cost on the overall demand.Originality/valueThe model’s innovation lies in its harmonious fusion of spatial classification, pricing strategies and inventory control. Notably, this novel integration provides a platform for unraveling the intricate interplay between non-symmetric market potential, production costs and cross-sensitivity. The investigation is underscored by the utilization of the double interval grey numbers, a powerful computational approach that accommodates the inherent uncertainty pervasive in the domain. This study fills a gap in the existing literature by offering an integrated framework unifying spatial allocation, pricing decisions and inventory optimization.

Processing and Properties of Polyhydroxyalkanoate/ZnO Nanocomposites: A Review of Their Potential as Sustainable Packaging Materials

The escalating environmental concerns associated with conventional plastic packaging have accelerated the development of sustainable alternatives, making food packaging a focus area for innovation. Bioplastics, particularly polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), have emerged as potential candidates due to their biobased origin, biodegradability, and biocompatibility. PHAs stand out for their good mechanical and medium gas permeability properties, making them promising materials for food packaging applications. In parallel, zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) have gained attention for their antimicrobial properties and ability to enhance the mechanical and barrier properties of (bio)polymers. This review aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to the research on PHA/ZnO nanocomposites. It starts with the importance and current challenges of food packaging, followed by a discussion on the opportunities of bioplastics and PHAs. Next, the synthesis, properties, and application areas of ZnO NPs are discussed to introduce their potential use in (bio)plastic food packaging. Early research on PHA/ZnO nanocomposites has focused on solvent-assisted production methods, whereas novel technologies can offer additional possibilities with regard to industrial upscaling, safer or cheaper processing, or more specific incorporation of ZnO NPs in the matrix or on the surface of PHA films or fibers. Here, the use of solvent casting, melt processing, electrospinning, centrifugal fiber spinning, miniemulsion encapsulation, and ultrasonic spray coating to produce PHA/ZnO nanocomposites is explained. Finally, an overview is given of the reported effects of ZnO NP incorporation on thermal, mechanical, gas barrier, UV barrier, and antimicrobial properties in ZnO nanocomposites based on poly(3-hydroxybutyrate), poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate), and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate). We conclude that the functionality of PHA materials can be improved by optimizing the ZnO incorporation process and the complex interplay between intrinsic ZnO NP properties, dispersion quality, matrix–filler interactions, and crystallinity. Further research regarding the antimicrobial efficiency and potential migration of ZnO NPs in food (simulants) and the End-of-Life will determine the market potential of PHA/ZnO nanocomposites as active packaging material.

Forecast Analysis of the Stock Market Based on Hidden Markov Model and Long Short-Term Memory Model- Taking the S and P500 Index as an Example

This paper proposes a hybrid method that combines the advantages of HMM and LSTM models to improve the accuracy of stock market predictions, using the S&P500 index as a case study. HMMs are used to identify and model potential market states, while LSTMs predict future stock prices based on these states. Through this integration, this paper hopes to take advantage of HMM’s ability to model market conditions and LSTM’s advantages in forecasting to provide a more robust forecasting framework. This article is mainly divided into five parts. The first part is an introduction to the research background and objectives. The second part is the review and arrangement of relevant literature. The third part is the elaboration of the theoretical basis and the collection and analysis of data. The fourth part is an explanation of the data analysis results. Unlocking Market Potential: Strategic Consumer Segmentation and Dynamic Pricing for Balancing Loyalty and Deal Seeking

Background: This paper examines the economic implications of market segmentation on consumer purchasing behavior with a particular emphasis on intertemporal pricing strategies in dynamic markets. Methods: In order to analyze optimal discount rates and the timing for price reductions for consumer segments, including loyal and deal-prone customers, a detailed mathematical model was developed. The model incorporates theories of consumer behavior and pricing elasticity to simulate market responses to price changes throughout a product’s lifecycle. Results: This research indicates that market segmentation enhances sales by targeting the distinct preferences of loyal consumers, who are less price-sensitive and who stabilize revenue streams, and deal-prone consumers, who respond to price reductions. Customizing pricing strategies for loyal consumers and deal-prone consumers increases sales volumes and optimizes profitability. Conclusions: This research improves our comprehension of market segmentation and dynamic pricing, providing a practical framework for businesses to create effective pricing strategies that can be promptly implemented. It emphasizes the significance of understanding consumer behavior and price sensitivity in the interest of revenue promotion. This study also emphasizes the social implications of equitable pricing practices, promoting the implementation of transparent and value-based strategies to promote market inclusivity and consumer trust.

Digital Marketing Optimization Based on 9 Core of Marketing Strategies to Support Go-Digital Herbal MSMEs and Export Markets in Utilizing the Potential of the Madiun Regency Region

Herbal Academy Group Indonesia, an MSME in Madiun, has proliferated since 2014 with herbal products that are beneficial for health. After BPOM tests and halal certification, they faced marketing and export challenges. The author proposes digital marketing optimization to increase market reach and export readiness, involving students in this activity as part of community service. This service aims to evaluate essential aspects in the digital marketing of herbal MSMEs in Madiun, including product quality, packaging, branding, and SEO, to support go-digital and export market expansion. The results of the assessment show that several areas need improvement. Solutions include digital marketing assistance and export certification to optimize global market potential. Implementing the service involves eight months of technical assistance in digital marketing and export. This service involves three stages of validation tests: material, media, and platform. The validation of the material showed an excellent assessment with an average of 84.33%, indicating that the material was relevant and precise. Media tests were also positive, scoring the highest strategy suitability and content authenticity scores. The platform's validation received excellent ratings in all aspects, including appearance, features, and regulatory compliance, with an average of 93.33%, indicating the platform's effectiveness in supporting Herbal MSMEs in Madiun. The application of technology and innovation for Herbal MSMEs in Madiun Regency. It covers digital marketing, SEO, e-commerce, and export technologies, including SCM tools and international databases.

The Development Prospect of Prefabricated Dish Industry

Abstract: In recent years, prefabricated dishes is a rapidly developing emerging industry in China. With a long industrial chain, wide connections and high technical requirements, it has become an important productive force for the upgrading of agricultural industry and has great development potential. However, the development of China's prefabricated dish still faces problems such as non-standard industry standards, unstable quality, low consumer acceptance, and insufficient innovation ability. The purpose of studying prefabricated dish is to explore more market potential, promote the upgrading of prefabricated dish industry, and meet more consumer needs. This paper introduces the present situation of China's prefabricated dishes, analyzes the different characteristics of overseas mature prefabricated dishes, and provides a development path for reference. It is suggested that the future prefabricated dishes industry should pay attention to food safety, expand sales channels, innovate dishes, and establish brand and marketing system. It also provides new ideas and suggestions for the future development of predicted dishes.
