The purpose of this study is to examine the extent to which senior management's involvement and demographics of organizational affect the effectiveness of IT governance with the performance of organizations. This is a combination of exploratory and descriptive research that aims to investigate the determinants of IT governance and its effects on organizational performance in Malaysian manufacturing companies. The sample size of 357 collected for this research. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was utilized in this research to investigate the measurement and structural model simultaneously. The findings demonstrated the relationships between the senior management's involvement and organizational demographics, effective its governance and organizational performance in manufacturing companies in Malaysia. This research is the construction of a theoretically based model which assimilates the senior management's involvement and organizational demographics, effective IT governance, and performance of organizations. Likewise, discover the most crucial elements that affect effective IT governance to improve the manufacturing company's performance.

Green innovation performance! How to be achieved? A study applied on Malaysian manufacturing sector

Green growth has become one of the main requirements by the governments and communities that companies need to fulfill in order to sustain and success in the market. However, transforming to be green companies comes with challenges that need to handle it. In this regard, green innovation has been documented to be as the companies’ driver towards attaining sustainable green economy. In Malaysia, there is a serious effort to boost up the level of green innovation performance among the industries players. This study aims to provide a model that can enhance the understanding on how to achieve green innovation. The model of this research indicates green supply chain management as an explanatory of green innovation performance. The study also explores the role of green innovation capabilities as a mediator that facilitate green supply chain management to impact on green innovation performance. This study, moreover, tests the moderator role of ISO 14000 certificate to strengthen the relationship among the variables included in the framework. The sample size was among Malaysian manufacturing companies, and a total number of 143 companies were the participants. As there is lack of studies that investigate the intervening relationship in green practices, this study will provide an insight to the policymakers, practitioners, and other researchers in the field to understand green innovation requirement and uncertainties. To run the analysis, SmartPLS3 was the software used to test the model. The main results and conclusions were discussed in the last section of the study.

Factors Affecting the Integrity of Manufacturing Company Financial Statements in Indonesian Stock Exchange and Malaysian Stock Exchange

This study aims to examine the effect of managerial ownership, auditors switching and intellectual capital on the integrity of financial statements with leverage and firm size as control variables. The study employed literature and observation study of the research object to obtain the research data. The research objects are manufacturing companies listed on IDX and MYX within the period of 2014-2017. Research data were analyzed using Eviews software with multiple linear regression analysis method. In this study the t statistical test is used to measure and assess the significance level of each independent variable (managerial ownership, auditor switching and intellectual capital) and control variables (firm size and leverage) on the dependent variable, namely the integrity of financial statements applied in Indonesia and Malaysia. The results showed that in the Indonesian manufacturing companies, managerial ownership, auditors switching and intellectual capital have a positive effect on the integrity of financial statements. Meanwhile, in the Malaysian manufacturing companies, from the three dependent variables used in the study, only managerial ownership has an effect on the integrity of financial statements. With regard to the control variables used, leverage and firm size are equally positive for the integrity of financial statements of companies just in Indonesia. This research is different from the previous study in that the objects of this study are manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and Bursa Malaysia (MYX) within the period of 2014-2017, which is a longer period of time. UNDERSTANDING THE EFFECTS OF INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION AND TASK DESIGN ON JOB PERFORMANCE AMONG EMPLOYEES IN THE MANUFACTURING COMPANY

on job performance among employees from the manufacturing industry.
 Methodology: The data is analyzed through a survey (questionnaire) from 152 employees in one of the manufacturing companies in Penang, Malaysia. Hypotheses for all direct effects between the predictors (eg. interpersonal communication and task design) and criterion (job performance) are tested using regression analysis. 
 Result: Results presented that employees in this company have a high level of job performance (µ = 3.70); interpersonal communication (µ =3.64) and task design (µ =3.66). Also, positive correlations are found between employees’ performance and interpersonal communication (r=.53, p=.00) and task design (r=.54, p=.00).
 Implications: Thus, this research provided a fruitful knowledge regarding the level of employees’ performance as well as their internal communication and task design; among employees in one of the manufacturing company in Malaysia.

Halal logistic services, trust and satisfaction amongst Malaysian 3PL service providers

PurposeThis study aims to empirically examine a model of the halal logistic services, its impact on manufacturers’ trust and satisfaction.Design/methodology/approachThis study was conducted through survey questionnaires after an extensive review of the literature. A total of 564 samples of the questionnaire were distributed to logistics management representatives of halal manufacturing companies in Malaysia. This survey was carried out to measure the respondents’ perception of halal manufacturers’ satisfaction with third-party logistic (3PL) service providers in Malaysia. The instruments/survey incorporate halal assurance services, halal service diversity and halal service procedure as the antecedents of halal manufacturers’ trust and satisfaction.FindingsThe findings indicate that halal assurance services and halal service procedure are positively associated with manufacturers’ trust and satisfaction, while halal service diversity is not associated with it. The study also shows that manufacturers’ attitude play a mediator role between the halal logistic service and manufacturers’ satisfaction.Originality/valueThe study provides useful information in understanding the importance of halal logistic services and more particularly aims at facilitating 3PL service providers to offer halal logistic services quality that suits the manufacturers’ needs.

Gender Differences in Organizational Citizenship Behaviour: A Study of Malaysian Manufacturing Sector

Many companies emphasize on the efficiency of employees, thus, organizations have been seeking for the methods that can improve the employees’ performance and efficiency. Organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) has been recognized as one of the significant factors that can enhance the organizational efficiency and overall productivity. Among the variables that could affect the level of OCB, the differences of genders on OCB should be concerned. This is because different genders of perceptions could influence employees’ behaviors in organizations. Hence, it is crucial to examine the significance of gender differences in OCB among employees. However, limited studies were conducted to investigate the significance of the gender differences in OCB. Hence, this paper intends to minimize the research gap by examining the significance of genders’ difference, as well as determining the level of OCB among the genders. A total of 85 valid respondents from few Malaysian manufacturing companies participated in this research. The results revealed that there is no significant genders’ difference on both dimensions of OCB, namely OCBI and OCBO. No significant genders’ difference was found in overall OCB as well. Future studies are recommended to conduct more studies on larger sample size, as well as to conduct their studies on wider scope of respondents.

A model of acceptance factors for business intelligence in manufacturing using theoretical models

<span>Manufacturing organizations implemented Business Intelligence (BI) due to many advantages offered by it. The lack of research on the acceptance of BI in manufacturing motivates the initiative in this study to have an understanding of the factors that influence the acceptance of BI in manufacturing sector. Therefore, the research proposes a model which indicates the acceptance factors of BI in manufacturing. An integrated model consisting of underlying models of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Expectation Confirmation Theory (ECT) and Task-Technology Fit (TTF) will be developed. The new model will formulate 19 hypotheses and 11 factors contributing to the continuance and acceptance of BI. The model will be tested using quantitative and qualitative survey conducted to Malaysian manufacturing companies and validated using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) to investigate the causal and mediating relationships between the factors. The expected result is hoping to suggest that selected factors in the model are positively related towards the acceptance of BI in manufacturing. The results are also hoping to guide future initiatives by industrial practitioners to develop and distribute BI to the manufacturing market.</span>

The roles of uncertainty avoidance and strategic agility in cloud storage adoption among multinational manufacturing companies in Malaysia

Cloud technology adoption is becoming a key sustainable information technology (IT) strategy for companies in developing countries with an investment potential of US$900 million by 2020. This study examined the antecedents and outcome of cloud storage adoption among multinational manufacturing companies (MNCs) in Malaysia. A total of 122 responses were collected and analysed with SmartPLS 3.2.7. Results show that relative advantage, top management support, technology readiness, cost saving and stakeholder pressure significantly influence cloud storage adoption; while uncertainty avoidance moderates the relationship between technology readiness and adoption. Interestingly, cloud storage adoption impacts firm performance while strategic agility enhances this relationship. This study provides a new perspective by examining the influence of national culture and strategic agility in the context of cloud storage adoption and its outcome among MNCs in Malaysia. In conclusion, this study contributes holistic and meaningful insights to IT practitioners and researchers in adopting cloud technology as a sustainable IT strategy.

The effects of entrepreneurial orientation on the performance of the Malaysian manufacturing sector

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of entrepreneur orientation (EO) on firm performance of the Malaysian manufacturing sector.Design/methodology/approachData for the study were collected through a survey of 321 companies registered with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers. Responses were analyzed using PLS-SEM to assess the relationships between transformational leadership and firm performance.FindingsThe findings show that amongst Malaysian manufacturers, transformational leadership has a strong direct effect on firm performance.Practical implicationsThese findings provide useful insights for organizations, particularly in the Malaysian manufacturing sector, seeking to be competitive and responsive to environmental changes by successfully introducing EO.Originality/valueEO has been studied in detail in the recent literature. Many new researchers have explored various composition factors of EO, and how this will have an effect on firm performance. However, there are few research studies in the area of transformational leadership amongst Malaysian manufacturing companies. This research makes an important contribution to the existing literature by empirically examining the relationship between EO and firm performance, particularly in the Malaysian manufacturing sector. Conclusion emphasizes that mechanisms to encourage and foster EO mainly autonomy, competitive aggressiveness and proactiveness are likely to result in the achievement of superior firm performance.

The effect of corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, and financial performance on tax avoidance

This study aims to examine the effect of corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, and financial performance on tax avoidance. The dependent variable used in this study is tax avoidance as measured by Cash Effective Tax Rate (CETR), while the independent variables used are independent commissioners, audit committee, corporate social responsibility (CSR), debt ratio, and ROA. This study also uses firm size as the control variable. Population in this study is manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and the Malaysia Stock Exchange (MYX) period 2012-2016. Sampling is conducted using purposive sampling method. The analysis technique used is multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study show that in the sample of Indonesian manufacturing companies, the variables of independent commissioner, audit committee, and ROA have an effect on tax avoidance, while in the sample of Malaysian manufacturing companies, only the variables of debt ratio and ROA that have an effect on tax avoidance.

Analyzing Factors Attributing To Effectiveness of Performance Management System of a Manufacturing Industry

Performance Management System (PMS) is considered as one of the vital aspects of Human Resource Management. PMS is the focus of study in this paper. The effectiveness of Performance Management System of a manufacturing company in Malaysia has been studied. And for this study, factor analysis is conducted. Different factors attributing to effectiveness of Performance Management System have been extracted and the study highlighted that Reward and Development, Continuous Communication and Departmental Development, Standard and Goal Setting, Developing HR Systems, Policy and Tool for Performance Management, Performance Measurement, Performance Linkage to Payment Decisions, Fairness for Employee Appraisal, Implementation and Employee Control, and Performance Review and Employee Recognition are the factors responsible for PMS Effectiveness. It has been suggested for taking developmental measures to enhance the existing Performance Management System contributing more for the benefits of organization and also for the betterment of the employees of the organization. Firstly, the importance of Performance Management System and the factors attributing to its effectiveness have been discussed in the introduction section. Secondly, relevant literature is being reviewed. It is followed by discussion about the methodology adopted in this study. Fourthly, results pertaining to this study and their analysis have been discussed in detail. Finally, concluding comments have been mentioned.

Environmental Capabilities Indicators are Prominent for Organizational Competitiveness and Performance. An Empirical Study of Malaysian Manufacturing Industry

It is no doubt, an awareness of environmental responsibility is currently taking place. Locally, Bursa Malaysia has unveiled Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Index in 2014 for public listed companies (Berhad)aiming to boost sustainability practices. Internationally, two of the world largest companies; Apple Incorporation – the most valuable companies in the world and Wal-Mart Incorporation – the world largest company in term of revenue are actively engaging with sustainable practices (Deloitte CFO Insights, 2009). As such, a company’s superb performance is no longer constrained on economic expects but has extended to environmental and social matters which named as sustainable performance. Yet, the practice of sustainability in developing nations such as Malaysia is relatively extreme low especially manufacturing companies in Malaysia. Essentially theExcel of Malaysian manufacturing depends on the scrutinization from developed counterparts in term environmental compliance. Aiming to encourage sustainable practices among manufacturing companies, particularly environmental area; thestudy will develop environmental capabilities indicators aiming to lead higher organization performance with ultimately boost up the sustainability practice. The technique of Amos 18 is applied in this study. Essentially, this study has successfully revealed comprehensive environmental capabilities indicators. In a nutshell, an organization with strong performance definitely possess appropriate indicators of environmental capabilities indicators. As such, regulatory bodies like The Electrical and Electronics Association of Malaysia (TEEAM) and The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), Malaysia Institute of Accountant (MIA), must lead and be proactive in promoting sustainable practices among Malaysian manufacturing companies. They can unlock the study finding in drafting their policies and encourage companies to implement it.

The Impact of Strategic Management Accounting Adoption on Organizational Effectiveness in Malaysian Manufacturing Companies

Strategic Management Accounting (SMA) technique plays a vital role in accounting management of an organization. This is because; SMA helps the accountants and other workers to manage their accounting systems efficiently and more orderly arranged. The aim of this study is to find out about technique of SMA that been applied in the organization specifically focused on manufacturing companies and the impact of the technique on organizational effectiveness. The result showed that all the 376 companies applied at least one SMA technique and specifically refers to the industry classification; the highest companies that applied SMA were electrical companies. The result also showed that SMA has impact on organizational effectiveness.

The Relationships between Interpersonal Communication, Task Design and Job Performance

This study aims to investigate the relationship between interpersonal communication and task design towards job performance among employees from one of the Malaysian manufacturing company. The data is obtained from 152 employees from different levels of position. Both of hypotheses have been accepted based on the regression analysis results. Therefore, factors namely interpersonal communication and task design are found to be positively related with job performance among employees in this company. In detail, job performance is significantly related to interpersonal communication (r=.53) as well as task design (r=.54). As a conclusion, the management needs to enforce a good level of interpersonal communication and task design in order to increase the employees' performance level.

Monitoring Process Variability and Root Cause Analysis in Paper Box Production

In this paper, monitoring procedure for process variability in multivariate setting based on individual observations which is a combination of (i) Hotelling’s T2 control chart in detecting out of control signal and (ii) implementation of Mason, Young and Tracy (MYT) decomposition and structure analysis technique for root cause analysis is introduced. The advantages of this procedure will be shown by using the case of a paper box production process in one of the Malaysian manufacturing companies. The successful application of this multivariate approach could act as a stimulant for most industries to imitate in process monitoring. Moreover, the computation efficiency in root cause analysis enables quality’s multiple characteristics to be monitored simultaneously. Based on the findings, the core issue that needs to be a matter of concern by the management team is the closure tap of the box. This process variation should be solved immediately to avoid the products’ quality from further deteriorating.

Total Quality Management and Organizational Performance: the Role of Performance Measurement System

Escalation in globalization, information and advancement in manufacturing technologies have constantly contribute to the increase in demand and in the competitive manufacturing business environment. Align with the challenges facing the companies, there is a need for companies to devise relevant strategies to help them cope with the changes and sustain their competitiveness. Total Quality Management (TQM) is a management philosophy and strategy that can help improve the quality of product and production processes. Prior research highlights the importance of implementing performance measurement system (PMS) in assisting the implementation of TQM practices. Incorporating contingency theory and socio-technical system theory, this study aims to examine the relationship between TQM practices and organisational performance and to determine the influence of PMS use in the relationship. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaire survey on a sample of Malaysian manufacturing companies. Our results support the view that more extensive PMS benefits performance as we find that, firms implementing TQM with more advanced PMS especially those that include financial and nonfinancial measures have higher performance. The results revealed that the relationship is more significant for companies using more advanced PMS compared to companies that used traditional PMS.

Safety Advice and Safety Participation in OSHMS among OHSAS 18001 certified Malaysian Manufacturing Companies

Lack of safety participation in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Management System (OSHMS) has exposed employees to high risk of work hazards resulting in high occupational accidents. This does not only affect employee’s morale towards work, but employer also needs to bear the cost of recovery and its effect to its reputation. This study was carried out to determine the relationship of safety capital (management safety commitment, safety training, extrinsic reward, intrinsic reward, employee involvement, safety communication and safety advice) and safety participation in OSHMS using the resource-based view (RBV) and knowledge-based view (KBV) theories. A total of 100 responses were collected from Malaysian manufacturing firms certified with OSHA18001. Data were analysed using the Smart Partial Least Square (SmartPLS). Results showed that safety training, extrinsic reward and employee involvement directly affect safety participation in OSHMS but not Management Safety Commitment, Intrinsic Reward and Safety Communication. However, Management Safety Commitment and Safety Communication indirectly affect safety participation in OSHMS moderated by high safety advice. As a managerial implication, this research showed that the role played by the safety officers represented by the safety advice is important in enhancing the safety practices and commitment in place to result in a successful safety participation in OSHMS.

Influence of big data adoption on manufacturing companies' performance: An integrated DEMATEL-ANFIS approach

Big Data is one of the recent technological advances with the strong applicability in almost every industry, including manufacturing. However, despite business opportunities offered by this technology, its adoption is still in early stage in many industries. Thus, this study aimed to identify and rank the significant factors influencing adoption of big data and in turn to predict the influence of big data adoption on manufacturing companies' performance using a hybrid approach of decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL)- adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS). This study identified the critical adoption factors from literature review and categorized them into technological, organizational and environmental dimensions. Data was collected from 234 industrial managers who were involved in the decision-making process regarding IT procurement in Malaysian manufacturing companies. Research results showed that technological factors (perceived benefits, complexity, technology resources, big data quality and integration) have the highest influence on the big data adoption and firms' performance. This study is one of the pioneers in using DEMATEL-ANFIS approach in the big data adoption context. In addition to the academic contribution, findings of this study can hopefully assist manufacturing industries, big data service providers, and governments to precisely focus on vital factors found in this study in order to improve firm performance by adopting big data.
