The article summarizes the role of the famous literary critic, organizer of sci-ence and educational process, public and political fi gure Leonid Timofi yovych Biletskyi (1882-1955) in the formation of the Kamianets-Podilskyi State Ukrainian University, where he worked as a private associate professor and also served as dean of the Faculty of History and Philology, vice-rector of this university during 1918-1920s. The source of information was mainly his memoirs, which were pub-lished only in 2013 – L. Biletskyi «My Memories (1917-1926)». The formation of the Ukrainian-centric position of this scientist, his active participation in the revival of the national school as an invaluable experience for further organizational work on the creation of the Kamianets-Podilskyi State Ukrainian University are analyzed. Attention is paid to the formation of L. Biletskyi as a scientist under the infl uence of scientifi c ideas and activities of V. Peretz, in particular, the philological seminar organized by him at the University of St. Volodymyr. The signifi cance of this gathering of intellectuals was that it produced a whole constellation of famous Ukrainian cultural fi gures, among whom, in addition to L. Biletskyi, I. Ohienko, S. Gaevskyi, M. Dry-Khmara. The Kamianets pages of L. Biletsky’s biography are outlined as a starting point for his further scientifi c and educational work. In particular, it refers to such organizational measures as the involvement of talented teachers and students, the teaching work of a scientist, the promotion of Ukrainian literature, the publication of textbooks and teaching aids. Also, the vectors of sci-entifi c activity of the scientist – a historian of Ukrainian literature, a Shevchenko expert, a theorist of literature – are characterized in general terms
