Overview of Ceramic Minerals Applications in Dentistry and New Perspectives: An Integrative Review

Modern dentistry is constantly searching for new materials that meet specific clinical requirements. Among these materials, ceramics stand out for their superior properties, such as biocompatibility, and are widely used in areas such as prosthetics, dentistry, implantology, and other related specialties. The biocompatibility of ceramic materials is one of the main reasons for their numerous applications in clinical practice, providing significant benefits for the recovery and maintenance of oral health. Objective: The present study aimed to carry out a comprehensive survey of scientific productions related to the applications of ceramic materials in dentistry. Materials and Methods: The research was conducted as an integrative literature review, covering five electronic databases to ensure broad and detailed coverage of relevant studies. Results: Initially, 1329 study records were found. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 13 studies were selected for analysis. These studies addressed several facets of the clinical applications of ceramic materials, highlighting their advantages and limitations. Conclusion: Despite the significant potential of ceramic materials in the area of ​​dental health, the analysis revealed a deficit in the global literature on the approach to this specific topic. There is a clear need for further research to explore in more depth the applications of these materials, their physical and chemical characteristics, and their interactions with biological tissues, in order to optimize their use in clinical practice.

Relational Cultural Theory and Intervention Approaches with Adolescent Girls: An Integrative Review

Relational Cultural Theory (RCT) offers a feminist, relationally-centered approach to therapy and social work practice, which is focused on the unique developmental experiences of girls, women, and individuals from traditionally underrepresented or marginalized groups. Much of the theoretical and intervention research on this model has focused on adult women, with less attention devoted to RCT's application with adolescent girls. This integrative literature review synthesizes qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods, and case study research on RCT to assess: 1) how RCT theoretical tenets have been translated into intervention strategies with adolescent girls, and 2) the degree to which RCT intervention research includes experiences of girls from diverse and underrepresented groups. Five electronic databases were searched through August 2023. Following deduplication and screening for inclusion/exclusion, 12 studies were retained for inclusion in this review. Analysis revealed four core RCT concepts that were linked with therapeutic intervention components across all included studies: mutual empathy, authenticity, empowerment, and the overall strengthening and deepening of relational connections. Over half of included studies reported samples that were over 50% girls of color, and/or having an expressed study purpose focused on girls from a diverse or underrepresented group. Practice implications for work with adolescent girls are discussed.

Industry 5.0 in Manufacturing: Enhancing Resilience and Responsibility through AI-Driven Predictive Maintenance, Quality Control, and Supply Chain Optimization

This integrative literature review investigates the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on manufacturing, focusing on AI-driven predictive maintenance, machine learning-based quality control, and AI-driven supply chain optimization. By examining current literature, the study highlights AI's potential to automate and revolutionize manufacturing operations, enhancing efficiency, resilience, and transparency. The study's conceptual framework is grounded in three primary pillars: AI-driven supply chain optimization, predictive analytics, and machine learning-based quality control, each contributing to the overall enhancement of manufacturing efficiency, resilience, and transparency. The methodology involves a comprehensive review of scholarly articles, reports, and academic publications, focusing on AI applications in predictive maintenance, quality control, and supply chain optimization. The analysis reveals significant improvements in operational efficiency and resilience due to AI, alongside concerns about biases, transparency, and implementation issues. The findings confirm AI's transformative potential in manufacturing but emphasize the necessity for ongoing supervision, regular audits, and the development of AI models capable of detecting and rectifying operational anomalies. The study proposes creating jobs such as AI Manufacturing Oversight Officer (AIMOO), AI Manufacturing Compliance Officer (AIMCO), and AI Manufacturing Quality Assurance Officer (AIMQAO) to ensure responsible AI utilization, maintaining the integrity and efficiency of manufacturing operations while addressing implementation challenges. The review concludes that AI is promising for transforming manufacturing; however, careful implementation is crucial to uphold operational integrity and resilience. Future research should prioritize longitudinal studies to evaluate AI's long-term impact, focus on addressing implementation concerns, and ensure fair and transparent integration of AI technologies. These findings have significant implications for practice and policy, underscoring the need for robust frameworks and regulatory measures to guide the effective use of AI in manufacturing.

Outcomes of pediatric-focused advanced practice provider fellowship programs: An integrative review.

An increased demand for pediatric-focused advanced practice providers (APPs) exists to address the health care needs of children with medical complexity. Postlicensure advanced practice fellowship programs have been developed to help improve novice provider transition to practice, reducing attrition. The objectives of this integrative review are to (1) identify outcome measurements of pediatric-focused advanced practice fellowship programs and (2) evaluate the outcome measures to guide future implications for practice. A systematic integrative literature review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systemic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, and Google Scholar were searched in August and September 2022. Articles met inclusion criteria if they included new graduate APPs, reported the intervention of a pediatric fellowship program, and shared outcome measurements. Studies were excluded if they did not directly report on fellowship program outcome measures. Thirteen studies met inclusion criteria and were summarized and appraised for quality using the Johns Hopkins Evidence-Based Practice Model. Four themes from the literature included the favorable impact of advanced practice fellowship programs on (a) job satisfaction, (b) retention, (c) clinical and professional performance, and (d) financial outcomes. Variable strategies were used to measure outcomes across programs. Postlicensure pediatric-focused advanced practice fellowship programs seem to improve retention and job satisfaction, increase provider confidence, and bring a favorable return on investment for the organization. Future work should include investment in developing validated, standardized assessment tools to support future development of these programs in the pediatric population.

Strategies to Improve Sleep Quality in Intensive Care Unit Patients.

Patients in intensive care units are exposed to many factors that can negatively affect the quality of their sleep. To describe the latest findings regarding sleep quality improvement in intensive care unit patients. An integrative literature review was conducted in the CINAHL, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and MEDLINE databases in April and May 2023. The following keywords were used: intensive care units, promotion, sleep quality, and sleep. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme tool was used to assess the quality of individual studies. Of 159 articles identified, 10 were included in the final analysis. The findings were grouped into 4 thematic categories: consequences of poor sleep quality, factors affecting sleep quality, pharmacologic ways to improve sleep quality, and nonpharmacologic ways to improve sleep quality. Various pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatments are used in clinical settings. Nonpharmacologic interventions include sleep masks, earplugs, reductions in alarm volume, and reductions in nighttime interventions. Relaxation techniques include aromatherapy, music therapy, and acupressure. The most effective way to improve sleep for intensive care unit patients is to use a combination of pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions. Among the latter, the use of earplugs and sleep masks is simplest.

ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY AS SECONDARY TREATMENT IN PATIENTS WITH CLEFT LIP AND PALATE: An Integrative Review

Cleft lip and cleft palate (CLP) is the most common craniofacial anomaly worldwide and can influence maxillary growth, leading to midface hypoplasia. Various therapies are proposed for managing this condition, including orthodontic interventions, conventional orthognathic surgery (CO), and/or distraction osteogenesis (DO) to achieve functional and aesthetic outcomes and improve the quality of life for affected individuals. This is an integrative literature review on orthognathic surgery as a surgical approach to address secondary clinical features in patients with cleft lip and palate. The research was conducted using databases such as Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed (MEDLINE), Lilacs, and SciElo, with indexed descriptors from DeCS/MeSH, considering studies published between 2019 and 2024 in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Based on preliminary analysis, 26 articles were selected for full reading, including primary studies and reference books on the topic. Ultimately, 13 studies were included due to their relevance to the research focus. It is concluded that the use of CO and DO techniques is effective for the surgical management of cleft patients, necessitating surgical planning and evaluation of the effects of different surgeries on CLP patients.

REHABILITATION WITH OBTURATOR PROSTHESES IN PATIENTS AFTER MAXILLECTOMY: An integrative literature review

Maxillectomy is used for the removal of neoplastic tissues in the maxilla and adjacent regions. Defects in the maxilla resulting from this surgical approach generally lead to physical dysfunctions and compromise oral function, including problems with chewing, swallowing, and speech, as well as aesthetic impairments. To minimize the sequelae of maxillectomized patients, the fabrication of obturator prostheses is advocated to block communication between the oral and nasal cavities, enabling functional and aesthetic recovery. This study aims to present an integrative literature review on rehabilitation with obturator prostheses after maxillectomy. The literature search included PubMed, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, ScienceDirect, and the Scientific Electronic Library Online, using a combination of the MeSH terms "Palatal Obturators," "Oral Cancer," and "Oral Rehabilitation." Studies suggest that the greater the tissue destruction, the worse the prognosis, due to greater difficulty in sealing and retaining obturator prostheses, as well as aesthetically unfavorable outcomes. Modified prostheses have superior results in terms of retention, stability, and sealing compared to conventional ones. The use of obturator prostheses is considered an effective treatment option for patients undergoing maxillectomy, as it can restore chewing and speech functions, as well as acceptable aesthetics, contributing to an improvement in quality of life. The importance of the appropriate professional approach from the beginning of treatment is emphasized, considering long-term planning and follow-up ideally.

THE NECESSITY OF PROTECTING LIVES: THE LUCAS LAW AS A STARTING POINT FOR OTHER LABOR SECTORS

Objective: To analyze the importance of first aid within the business context, highlighting the necessity and benefits of training employees to effectively handle emergency situations. Theoretical Framework: The Lucas Law prevents tragedies by training professionals for emergencies, increasing survival rates. It emphasizes the importance of daily preparedness and serves as a starting point for promoting public policies that encourage companies to train employees in first aid. Method: A qualitative research was conducted in scientific articles, using an integrative literature review, identifying the theme and guiding question; establishing inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results and Discussion: It is estimated that workplace accidents cause an annual loss of 4% of the global gross domestic product (GDP), with Brazil ranking fourth worldwide in fatal workplace accidents. Research with rural workers showed that 11% suffered some work-related accident within a year. These data highlight the importance of proper training for the prevention of workplace accidents. Research Implications: This research highlights the importance of first aid training in the business environment, promoting a safe workplace and influencing public policies on accident prevention. Originality/Value: This study underscores the critical need for first aid in the business environment, offering an innovative approach to training. Its relevance is evidenced by the potential reduction in workplace accidents and the promotion of a safer environment

Boardroom Dissent: An Integrative Review and Future Research Agenda

ABSTRACTResearch Question/IssueScholars and practitioners view boardroom dissent as central to the functioning of boards of directors. However, there is a lack of consensus on what dissent is, who is involved, when and where it happens, and whether it is a behavioral or cognitive phenomenon. This conceptual unclarity and related fragmentation of empirical results call for an integrative literature review to build a coherent agenda for future research.Research Findings/ResultsA content‐analysis of 73 articles published between 1997 and 2023 reveals three distinct research clusters that explore the empirical phenomenon: (1) dissent as expressed through voting, (2) dissent as diverging views, and (3) dissent as behavior in and around the boardroom. Three overarching challenges hamper the advancement of the field: (1) conceptual inconsistencies, (2) several methodological challenges, and (3) a need for further theorizing connected to boardroom dissent.Theoretical ImplicationsWe propose a novel working definition for boardroom dissent to inspire new work related to its constituent parts and to facilitate advancing its measurement. In combination with alternative methods, it stands to advance the boardroom dissent literature. Furthermore, there is a need for future research to integrate competing explanations theorizing how boardroom dissent relates to outcomes at different levels and to examine how boundary conditions constrain these relationships.Practitioner/Policy ImplicationsThe article provides new nuances to reflect on boardroom dissent and related behaviors. The review highlights that there is no one‐size‐fits‐all approach automatically resulting in positive outcomes.

Factors associated with cervical cancer prevention coverage

Objective: To evaluate the factors associated with cervical cancer prevention coverage. Methods: an integrative literature review was conducted, articles retrieved from the secondary databases Virtual Health Library, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, Scientific Electronic Library Online and Online System for Search and Analysis of Medical Literature were analyzed, based on Boolean operators. Results: the factors associated with this outcome were being married/widowed/separated/divorced, not being a smoker, having health insurance, having seen a doctor in the last year and having a domicile registered in the Basic Family Health Unit, factors such as not being scheduled by the professional, women with a family income of up to 1 minimum wage, who studied up to the 4th grade, residents in the Northeast region and in municipalities with up to 20,000 inhabitants, women who had never attended school, with four or more children, a history of four or more births, who did not use contraception and had inadequate knowledge about the test, feelings of shame, fear and fear of the diagnosis represented barriers to the performance of the test. Conclusion: the data of the study indicate that the factors that influence the coverage of cervical cancer prevention tests may be individual, structural and access, technical and cultural.

Experiences of Respite Care Among Carers or Relatives Who are Responsible for Caring for Individuals With a Mental Illness: An Integrative Literature Review.

An integrative review methodology was employed, following PRISMA guidelines and Whittemore and Knafi's method for integrative review. Thus, the review synthesised the findings of empirical literature published between 2005 and 2023 drawn from four databases: CINAHL, MEDLINE, PsycINFO and Scopus. From the seven studies that met the inclusion criteria, a number of themes emerged: (a) relief of carer burden; (b) benefits for individuals with Mental Illness (MI); (c) barriers to accessing respite care; and (d) inappropriate services model for respite care for individuals with MI. The review findings indicate that using respite care services can decrease a carer's burden and can positively impact both carers and individuals with MI. Conversely, respite care may cause an increase in carers' stress levels due to the lack of service availability, insufficient knowledge and understanding about respite care services for carers, respite accessibility challenges accessible for people with MI and the reluctance of people with MI to accept respite care.

Development and content validity of educational videos on self-management of fluid restriction and thirst for individuals with heart failure.

To create and evaluate the content validity of educational videos on self-management of fluid restriction and thirst for individuals with heart failure (HF). A psychometric study was conducted in three stages: (1) an integrative literature review to identify strategies for self-management of fluid restriction and thirst by individuals with HF; (2) creation of animated videos about strategies for self-management of fluid restriction and thirst; and (3) analysis of the content validity of the educational videos by 11 experts. For each criterion, the content validity ratio (CVR) was calculated; it was considered adequate when <0.636. Suggestions were evaluated by the researchers, and the videos were modified. Ten scripts and videos were created, averaging 30s each. The videos' contents were based on 11 studies retrieved from the review and one specialized website. The videos were evaluated by experts, and adjustments were made when CVR<0.636 and when allowed by the video production platform. Educational videos were developed and have satisfactory content validity evidence according to expert opinions. These videos are expected to be used as educational strategies in clinical practice to prevent episodes of decompensation due to excessive fluid volume.

Potential Strategies for Overcoming Barriers to Career Transition among Students with Visual Impairments

The visually impaired group remains among the most unemployed despite laws designed to facilitate employment opportunities for the disabled population. This review article presents potential strategies for overcoming barriers experienced by students with visual impairments (VIs) during their career transition. An integrative literature review was employed by the authors. The integrative literature review allows authors to produce new frameworks and perspectives on a topic from a range of existing research data and ideas in a significant manner. Results of the literature review suggest that public education, adequate transportation and mobility skills, proper assessment of the students' skill development, the acquisition of relevant social and independent-living skills, adequate training for rehabilitation service providers, adequate access to prints, collaboration among professionals, and early career education and work experience are some of the strategies that can be adopted to help students with VIs overcome most of the challenges they experience in their career transition journey. Adopting the strategies discussed in this article may lead to a successful career transition for these students. One of the implications of this paper is that visually impaired students should be able to adapt to the career environment by acquiring relevant skills and being open to opportunities. Also, specialized job training and placement might make it easier for visually impaired students to find competitive work after earning an academic degree and raise their chances of embarking on a successful career path.

Reflections: Putting Theory into Practice

This reflection includes my transformative educational journey as a graduate student. The journey includes early professional experience at a startup then shifts to the pivotal role of teachers in the learning process. These early experiences led to my decisions to pursue graduate studies in adult learning and human resource development. Reflecting on transformative learning experiences, I explore the often-overlooked realm of teacher support and development, delving into an integrative literature review on sociocultural factors contributing to teacher burnout and strategies for mitigation. The reflection highlights the findings from the integrative literature review including the interconnectedness of internal and external factors impacting teacher wellness, emphasizing self-efficacy and external support structures as crucial elements which were also personal and evident in my own life. I presented at the AAACE conference where these findings were also evident in the lives of attendees. I now lead a diverse team of teachers where I apply these lessons learned daily, advocating for structural supports to safeguard teacher commitment and combat burnout. The reflection underscores the intrinsic value of teachers as the “secret ingredient” in education and the ongoing quest to sustain their passion and well-being.

Effect of the use of low power laser in the treatment of chronic wounds: an integrative review

Objective: The objective was to identify the effects of low-power laser on the healing of chronic wounds. Method: This is an integrative literature review, carried out in the Medline / Pubmed, Cochrane Library and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases, limited to Randomized Clinical Trials, in which 68 articles were identified, of which 19 were pre-selected and seven were included in the final sample, after checking the eligibility criteria. Results: Most articles (n = 05) included patients with injuries resulting from diabetes mellitus located in the regions of the feet and two studies addressed venous ulcers. Most of the selected studies showed that the use of low-level laser therapy was able to accelerate the tissue repair process, with a significant reduction in the wound area, showing effectiveness in promoting healing, when compared to the treatments presented in the different studies. The significant reduction in pain in the laser-treated group was also an important effect reported in some studies. The wavelength in nanometers (nm) used for laser application varied from 632.8 to 830 nm and the doses in joules (J) were from 3 to 7J / cm2. The duration of laser therapy treatment averaged 4 weeks. Conclusion: The low-power laser can be an alternative therapy in the treatment of chronic wounds in clinical practice to optimize and enhance the healing process.

Omaha System: An Integrative Literature Review from 2012 to 2022.

The Omaha System has been providing a useful clinical documentation structure for health practice, education, and research since 1975. To understand its current applications, we updated a literature review from 2013, using the same descriptors ('Omaha System') which resulted in 559 documents. After applying filters and different forms of screening, 35 papers published from 2012 to 2022 composed the final sample for the review. From its critical analysis we realized that the Omaha System is still a valuable tool for the evaluation of health care outcomes in a variety of settings. Its benefits include promoting communication, supporting evidence-based dec;ision-making, and improving the quality of care and it is interoperable with other classifications and terminologies in healthcare. The use of the Omaha System still enables a consistent integration between patient, community, and health professionals, ensuring the collection and analysis of data that contributes to holistic care in a multidisciplinary approach.

Quality of life of professionals working in primary care

Objective: To analyze the factors associated with the quality of life of health professionals working in primary care. Methods: an integrative literature review was conducted using the secondary databases Virtual Health Library, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, Scientific Electronic Library Online and Online System for Search and Analysis of Medical Literature based on the specific descriptors retrieved from the Health Sciences Descriptors. Results: the following factors were identified as associated with the outcome: inadequate conditions to perform work, lack of organization and difficulty in social relationships, professional occupation, with community health agents being the professionals with the lowest quality of life, followed by mid-level professionals, in the qualitative data, the perspectives that most impact the quality of life were infrastructure and salary deficits, Regarding the quality of life domains, there was great variation in the findings of the various studies. Conclusion: the data of the study indicate that the factors that influence the quality of life of professionals working in primary care are complex and multifaceted, ranging from individual variables or to the work environment.

Empowering women: navigating work environment challenges with mental toughness

Purpose This literature review examines women’s significant workplace challenges and explores mental toughness, a distinct non-cognitive ability associated with peak athletic performance. This study aims to understand this concept and its potential for women professionals facing similar challenges in an organisational context. Design/methodology/approach Based on a systematic literature review, this exploratory paper is an integrative literature review synthesising pre-existing knowledge using secondary scientific databases. This literature analysis will pave the way for comprehension of the existing body of research, identification of research gaps, and opportunities for further studies. Different typologies of mental toughness (MT) have been identified, and a new typology will emerge from this research study. Findings The study analyses over 100 articles based on MT typology and complex gender dynamics at work, especially the “broken rung” concept of trapping women in lower or mid-level roles in an organisation. This content analyses the recent emergence of the MT typology in academic research, with articles published after 2019 and a few earlier key works that shaped the concept of MT. In addition to contributing a comprehensive typology of MT and its impact on women professionals, this paper also provides recommendations for future research and individual-level development of MT to help women overcome workplace barriers globally. Research limitations/implications Understanding MT’s impact on women’s ability to overcome workplace barriers has HR implications, including hiring, retention, career advancement, training and closing gender gaps. This research may help individual women professionals adopt MT as a psychological resource to navigate work environment challenges. Further research is needed for practical insights, given this discussion is based on a literature review. Practical implications The practical implications of this study have a profound impact on human resource management practices within organisations, highlighting the multifaceted approach required to tackle gender disparity. A more inclusive and supportive work environment can be created by ensuring MT training is accessible to all employees. A comprehensive career development plan for women professionals, including but not limited to mentoring, executive sponsorship, skill-building training or stretched assignments, leadership coaching, networking opportunities, and increased visibility in the organisation are critical for career advancement and retention. Originality/value This study is a novel attempt to examine whether MT, which has proven effective in helping athletes achieve their goals, can be applied in a workplace environment. It is also a new endeavour to investigate whether women could use MT as a psychological tool to help them overcome obstacles in a diverse professional setting.

Introduction: Electronic cigarettes were introduced to the market for assisting in smoking cessation. However, this alternative is related to the development of Lung Injury Associated with the Use of Electronic Cigarettes and Vaporizers (EVALI), especially in the young population. In this context, it is necessary to understand the mechanisms of lung injury produced by the use of electronic cigarettes in order to establish the true risks of long-term exposure to these vapors. Objective: To elucidate the pathophysiological mechanisms of EVALI. Method: Integrative literature review based on the PRISMA method and search in the LILACs, PubMed, and EMBASE databases, from 2003 to 2023 and free access experimental and epidemiological research in full, with an approach to the pathogenesis of EVALI, were selected. Results: The different constituents present in electronic cigarettes are involved in the development of EVALI as they age through different mechanisms, such as: changes in the structure and functions of the lung surfactant; accumulation of oil droplets in mucus, and alteration of the structure, function, and chemotaxis of cells that make up innate immunity, such as neutrophils and macrophages. Conclusions: Electronic cigarettes induce EVALI through different mechanisms due to the complexity of the composition of substances present in vapors. Clarifying the mechanisms of lung injury is pertinent for regulatory agencies to apply more stringent measures to electronic cigarettes in order to reduce the impact of exposure and cases of morbidity and mortality among young people and adults.
