VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY STUDY OF THE SCALE FOR INTEREST LEVELS OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TO SPORTS (USIL)

The aim of the study is to develop a valid and reliable scale to measure interests of university students to sports. In the spring of 2016, Validity and reliability research is realized on 600 students getting education at different departments of Karabuk within the scope of the research. For data collection; Developed by the author University Students Scale for Interest Levels towards Sports is used. A measurement tool consisting of two parts is benefited during the data collection process. The first part of measurement tool is demographic information form, while the second part being interest scale towards sports that is prepared in order to determine the interest level of students towards sports. Confirmatory factor analysis is used in order to approve the structure obtained as a result of the explanatory factor analysis. Their accord indexes are examined in order to understand whether the scale is valid or not. Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficients of 10 articles that are determined regarding a single factor for the reliability of the scale are calculated. As a result of the conducted studies, one-factor 10-article valid and reliable scale is developed that may measure the interest of students towards sports. Article visualizations:

Perception Research of Talent to Ideal Workplace Case Study of Final-Year University in Indonesia aims to describe the dominant factors behind the career choice of students and to know the level of student interest for a career in the Ministry of Finance. Respondent surveys are final-year university students, consist of 20 best universities in Indonesia and 5 (five) Universities that manifest affirmative action program as representative from outside East Java / Indonesia. Based on the results, the perception of talent on the selection of the ideal place of work according to the respondent is a company / organization that provides high income, good career opportunities and a comfortable working environment. 80,7% of respondents stated their approval that the Ministry of Finance has a positive image as an ideal workplace according to respondents' choice. Meanwhile, in the competition of the national job market, the Ministry of Finance is ranked second place where the worker is considered ideal and desired by the respondents, under PT Pertamina which is ranked number one.

Design and Development of Smart Basnet Applications as a Basic Network Learning Media for First Grade Student of Vocational High School

<p><em>The lack of adequate learning resources has an impact on the low level of student interest in the subject matter, resulting in disruption of the process to achieve the expected learning objectives. The development of technology, can be used to design an application that can be used as a source of learning or learning media. The purpose of this research is to produce application product learning that can be used as learning media for basic network subjects. The development model used is the development model of ADDIE, which is analisys, design, develop, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection techniques used were observation, literature, documentation, and questionnaires. Applications tested up to 35 students of class X TKJ. The results of the validation learning application obtained a percentage of 93.4% of media experts, 88.8% of materials experts and 81.2% of users or students. MINAT MAHASISWA TERHADAP PROFESI GURU

This study aims to reveal the level of student interest in technical education building of the FT UNJ the teaching profession, the study was conducted starting from March until July, 2016.
 The study was conducted in Building Engineering Study Program, this research uses descriptive qualitative method, namely data collection techniques by spreading questionnaires and interviews as the reinforcement of the answers to the questionnaire.
 The results of this study are students of Technical Education Building has a high interest in the teaching profession, they considered that the teaching profession is a noble job, and for that assessment increases the pleasure of students in teaching, and all it's the result that students PTB FT UNJ have high interest in the teaching profession

When Professors Bully Graduate Students: Effects on Student Interest, Instructional Dissent, and Intentions to Leave Graduate Education

Academia can be a hostile place when faculty members and departments mistreat their graduate students. This study used a survey of 272 graduate students enrolled in a variety of programs and investigated bullying from the graduate student perspective. Our results indicated when graduate students viewed that they had been bullied by professors in their department (via belittlement, punishment, managerial misconduct, exclusion), they reported lower levels of student interest (meaningfulness, competence, impact) and a greater intention to leave the program. Students also reported they were more likely to communicate expressive and vengeful dissent in response. In the discussion, we outlined the ways departments can improve the quality of their graduate education culture.

Aspectos Epistemológicos, Históricos y Didácticos del Conocimiento Profesional del Profesorado Universitario de Probabilidad

La investigación Educativa ha señalado la necesidad de una mayor investigación acerca de los componentes del conocimiento del profesorado, que deben ir más allá del mero conocimiento del contenido matemático. El denominado Conocimiento Profesional del Profesorado incorporaría aspectos relacionados con la propia enseñanza de la disciplina, las perspectivas de los profesores, la historia, las dificultades de los estudiantes etc. Este trabajo aborda los siguientes temas de investigación: Conocimiento Profesional del profesorado sobre Probabilidad, Epistemología e Historia de la Teoría de la Probabilidad y Didáctica de la Teoría de la Probabilidad. Se aborda en primer lugar el problema de identificar los componentes de este Conocimiento Profesional que serán de utilidad al profesorado universitario de Teoría de la Probabilidad para el diseño de secuencias de enseñanza-aprendizaje; y, en segundo lugar, se estudia en qué medida tales componentes son tenidos en cuenta en la enseñanza universitaria. Se ha realizado un análisis fenomenológico de la Teoría de la Probabilidad, incluyendo la fenomenología histórica, y se han estudiado, mediante un cuestionario escrito y entrevistas personales, las propuestas de enseñanza de un grupo de profesores universitarios de estudios de Ingeniería. El análisis ha identificado los siguientes aspectos que deben formar parte del Conocimiento Profesional: el planteamiento de situaciones problemáticas para la introducción de los conceptos; la discusión de las diferentes formulaciones conceptuales de la Probabilidad y sus problemáticas históricas; las implicaciones entre la Ciencia, la Técnica y la Sociedad destinadas a mejorar el interés de los estudiantes; y la toma en consideración de las concepciones alternativas de los estudiantes. El estudio de las propuestas de enseñanza revela una ausencia de estos componentes en el Conocimiento Profesional de los profesores investigados, lo cual evidencia la necesidad de programas de formación que presten atención a los resultados de la investigación en Educación Matemática.

STUDI PEMINATAN PENULISAN KREATIF DAN PEMINATAN JURNALISTIK PADA PROGRAM STUDI PENERBITAN

The purpose of this research are to (1) provide a reason academic formation of creative writing and journalism concentration, (2) describe the structure of the curriculum design creative writing and journalism concentration, (3) lays out the work prospects of graduates creative writing and journalism concentration, and (4) describe the level of student interest in courses of creative writing and journalism concentration in the department of Publishing in Polimedia. Researcher uses document study to draft a new curriculum structure design creative writing and journalism concentration. Furthermore, to study the interest of students towards creative writing and journalism, he uses a quantitative descriptive research. The results obtained, creative writing and journalism specification need to be held because the two concentrations give much interest to students, needed and in accordance with the development of the science publishing in Indonesia.

Підвищення мотивації до занять фізичною культурою учнів 5–6 класів

Purpose: to analyze the impact of experimental techniques to motivate pupils of 5-6 classes in physical training at school. Material and methods: student motivation to physical training was determined by means of two questionnaires conducted before and after the implementation of the methodology in the control and experimental groups. 109 students 5–6 grade Kharkiv secondary school № 67 were selected: 5-A and 6-A forms was the experimental group, 5-B and 6-B forms formed the control group. Results: a low level of student interest in physical training and the importance of coercion in attendance on a background of diverse sports entertainment adolescents is revealed. Conclusions: positive influence of methodology as on the level of interests, values and motivations, and pupils behavior is observed.

This research assessed the relationship between the level of interest and academic achievement among Radiography students in a Nigerian University, and implications for career counseling. From the population of all the Radiography students (65) in the third, fourth and fifth (final) years, a sample size of forty students was drawn through stratified sampling technique. The ex-post facto research survey method was adopted. The program interest inventory (PII) was developed, validated and used for the study. Data analysis was done through descriptive, correlation coefficient and t-test statistics at 5% level of significance. A significant relationship between students’ academic performance and the level of interest in Radiography program was revealed. Consequently, students with higher interest levels performed better in cognitive test than their counterparts with low interest level. Gender is considered an important factor, as this study revealed a significant difference in the interest levels of female and male students. The study confirms that the interest level of students in a Radiography program significantly influences their academic performance. The study recommended a targeted counseling service to help students develop genuine interest and love for their chosen careers and to avoid academic failure. Many adolescents with learning disabilities (LD) experience difficulties reading. To improve reading outcomes for these students, research has demonstrated the importance of providing students with appropriate texts. Appropriate texts are those that match both the reading and interest levels of students and are often credited with reducing frustration and facilitating comprehension. This article presents research on selecting appropriate texts and provides teachers with practical suggestions and resources to use when supporting selection of independent reading material for adolescents with LD.

Teaching the Biology of Gender, Sex, and Sexuality Leads to a Marked Increase in Acceptance of the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection

Biology education in the U.S. is under threat due to resistance to the principles of modern evolutionary theory. Although religious and cultural prejudices heavily influence this resistance, poor understanding of evolutionary theory itself is at least partly responsible. Thus, coherent and aggressive strategies are needed in order to rectify this poor understanding and properly educate the next generation of the electorate and its policy makers. Herein, we examine acceptance of evolutionary concepts among students in a majors-level introductory biology course and those in a gender studies course on sex, gender, and sexuality. Through pre- and post-course surveys, we measured the change in their acceptance. Surprisingly, students in the gender studies course consistently displayed greater improvement in their acceptance of evolutionary theory than the biology students, despite only tangential coverage of these topics in the gender studies course and substantial coverage of them in the biology course. These results provide evidence that one strategy for advancing the proper education of biology and natural history is through teaching of the biological basis of reproduction and sexuality, topicsthat exhibit a high level of student interest and uniquely convey the effects and consequence of evolutionary forces such as natural and sexual selection, adaptation, mutation, and genetic drift.

Scaffolding student online discussions using past discussions: PedaBot studies

We are developing instructional tools that will help students and instructors use discussion boards more effectively, with an emphasis on automatically assessing discussion activities and promoting student discussion participation and learning. In this paper, we present a discussion scaffolding tool that exploits natural language processing and information retrieval techniques. The PedaBot tool is designed to aid student knowledge acquisition, promote reflection about course topics and encourage student participation in discussions. It dynamically processes student discussions and presents related discussions and document from a knowledge base of past discussions and course materials. This paper describes the system and presents a comparative analysis of the information retrieval techniques used to respond to free-form student discussions, including a combination of topic profiling, term frequency-inverse document frequency, and latent semantic analysis. Responses are presented as annotated links that students can follow and rate for usefulness. The tool has been integrated into a live discussion board and has been used by an undergraduate computer science course for three semesters. We report current studies of PedaBot from its usages based on student viewings, student ratings, and a small survey. Initial results indicate that there is a high level of student interest in the feature and that its responses are moderately relevant to student discussions. We are exploring more opportunities to exposing the tool to students.

Pengaruh Lingkungan Individu Mahasiswa dan Kinerja Bauran Pemasaran Perguruan Tinggi terhadap Proses Keputusan Mahasiswa dan Nilai Jasa Pendidikan Tinggi Komputer

Colleges offering computer education are increasing, especially with the widespread use of information technology in all fields. This paper presents the results of research that aims to uncover the level of service marketing mix of performance conformity with the interests of education and expectations of students. Research conducted descriptive, while the research method used is the method of explanatory survey of 770 students and 54 leaders from computer private colleges in Jakarta. The results showed that the individual's environment is more influential on the decision process of selecting college students compared the performance of education services marketing mix. There is a gap between the performance of the marketing mix of educational services with the level of expectation and perceived level of student interest. Therefore, leaders of computer private colleges in Jakarta should pay attention to changes in consumer behavior to marketing mix program of education services can further enhance the value of education services.

Usak Üniversitesi Ögrencilerinin Tarihi ve Kültürel Eserler Hakkindaki Ilgi ve F

The aim of this study is to determine the interest and awareness level of undergraduate students towards the historical and cultural works in Usak, where they are living temporally at the time of the study. There were 560 students participated in the study who were registered to nine different departments attached to the faculties of Education, Science and Liberal Arts, Economics and Administrative Sciences and Engineering in Usak University. A revised version of the instrument developed by Kece and Dinc (2010) was used for data collection purposes. SPSS programme was used to descriptively analyse the collected data. The findings of the study reveal that the interest level of students towards the historical and cultural works in Usak is over the average, while their level of awareness towards them is less than average. The findings also indicated that the level of participants’ interest towards the historical and cultural works shows statistically significant differences between female and male students, while their level of knowledge and awareness about those works differs on the basis of departments students were registered to.

A Perpetual-Motion Machine Problem for Teaching Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics

A perpetual-motion machine (PMM) problem is described which the author has used for more than a decade to augment a traditional textbook-centred course. Two proofs for debunking a ‘buoyancy engine’ PMM are given. One solution is based on the principles of fluid statics, requiring the calculation of hydrostatic and buoyancy forces on submerged surfaces. An alternative solution is based on an energy method, requiring the calculation of the work done by a moving boundary. These analyses are well suited for instructional purposes on a first course in fluid mechanics or thermodynamics. The author has found that this type of puzzle can be used to generate a high level of student interest and classroom participation, with only a minor commitment of lecture time.

Issues in Renewable Energy Education

AbstractRenewable energy education is evolving rapidly in response to drivers such as oil depletion and global warming. There is a rapidly increasing level of student interest in these topics and a growing demand from industry and government for skilled personnel to develop sustainable energy systems and greenhouse solutions. Several Australian and New Zealand Universities have taken up this challenge. This article reviews the global and local state of renewable energy education. It identifies approaches, issues and challenges facing sustainable energy educators and proposes some solutions to these problems.

Increasing the interest of students in plants

On first contact, students express less interest in plants than in animals. With suitable didactic methods, however, the teacher can actively interest students in plants. In our research we attempted to quantify the influence of these methods. 184 students of three age groups took part in the experiment. We used eight plants (one artificial). We found that it was possible to influence the level of student interest.

Women's History Through Family History

The undergraduate family history project has become a standard assignment in survey courses around the country over the last twenty years-sometimes as an optional project and sometimes as a required assignment. This activity, which documents the lives of two or more generations of a family or evaluates a family member in light of a historical event, has become popular in part because it has several advantages over typical undergraduate research papers-it generates a high level of student interest, it is more difficult to plagiarize, it builds a deeper relationship between professors and their students, and it allows students to connect personally with the material presented in class.1 In teaching a U.S. women's history course for undergraduate majors, I have modified this project to take advantage of these benefits, while at the same time using it to introduce higher-level research skills.2

Methods and resources to increase student interest in governmental accounting

Coverage of governmental accounting is typically light within both accounting and public administration programs, and instructors generally do not have access to the same number of resources that they may find for courses which have been ingrained in their curricula for decades. Hence, it can be difficult for instructors to create or maintain student interest in governmental accounting without such resources. The purpose of this paper is to examine how instructors can emphasize relevance to increase the interest level of students in governmental accounting and to discuss how current resources and various pedagogical tools may be used as facilitators.

The relationship between student interest and teacher's use of behavior alteration techniques

Two hundred and nine college students completed surveys that pertained to their perceptions of teacher behaviors (BATs) and their level of interest. Interest was measured using the Frymier, Shulman, and Houser (1996) Learner Empowerment Scale. Not only do the results indicate that pro‐social teacher behaviors are related to increased levels of student interest, but results show that different teacher behaviors are differentially related to the separate dimensions of interest. This supports earlier assertions by Weber, Martin and Patterson (2001) that interest is a multifaceted construct providing teachers with different avenues to influence their students’ affective responses.
