THE INFLUENCE OF FAMILY SOCIO-ECONOMICS AND SOCIAL SUPPORT FROM THE FAMILY SUPPORT TEAM ON STUNTING (Cases in Families at Risk of Stunting in Purwadadi District, Ciamis Regency, 2024)

The problem of stunting which a part of the double burden of malnutrition has a very detrimental impact both in terms of health and economic productivity. The causes of stunting are divided into specific factors and sensitive factors. Sensitive factors that are considered to have an influence on the incidence of stunting are the family's socio-economic and also the social support provided by the family support team who have an important role in efforts to prevent stunting. The socio-economic factors that influence the incidence of stunting in risk of stunting families in Purwadadi District are the level of education from the parents, family income level, participation in family planning programs as a contraception acceptor and the number of children in the family. All forms of social support provided by the family support team in the form of informational, instrumental, emotional, appreciation and friendship/social integration support have an influence on the incidence of stunting in families at risk of stunting in Purwadadi District. The social support from the family support team on stunting that has the most dominant influence on the incidence of stunting in families at risk of stunting in Purwadadi District was informational support and friendship/social integration support.

Can farmers' digital literacy improve income? Empirical evidence from China.

This paper explore the impacts and mechanisms of digital literacy of farm households on income. The baseline regression of the impact of digital literacy of farm households on household income uses a fixed effects regression model, and the 2SLS regression model is used to address the endogeneity problem present in the model. The findings reveal that improving digital literacy among rural households significantly increases their family income, a result that remains robust even after considering endogeneity issues. Further examination of the mechanisms shows that enhancing digital literacy among rural households significantly improves their information acquisition capabilities and cognitive skills. It also deepens financial services, boosting the usage and engagement of rural households in digital financial activities, thereby enhancing family income levels. Facilitating rural residents' access to digital skills and tools to ride the digital economic wave, ensuring fair access, and achieving sustainable family income are of paramount significance for rural revitalization. It is also a crucial step in bridging the digital divide and promoting shared prosperity.

The Effects of High Altitude on Children's Sleep: A Community-Based Study on Preschoolers in the Tibetan Plateau.

High Alt Med Biol. 00:00-00, 2024. Objective/Background: It has been reported that high altitude affects breathing during sleep in children. To evaluate the symptoms suspected sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and sleep quality of preschool children living in high altitude of 2,261-3,800 m above sea level (masl) in the Tibetan Plateau, we conducted the community-based survey using a questionnaire. Patients/Methods: Sleep problems were assessed in 3,113 children aged 3-6 years in Qinghai province using the Chinese version of the Japanese Sleep Questionnaire for Preschoolers (JSQ-P-C), focusing on obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and OSA-related symptoms. The effect of altitude on these scores was analyzed. Results: The subscale scores of OSA, morning symptoms, and daytime excessive sleepiness in the JSQ-P-C were higher in children living in areas above 3,000 masl than in those living below 3,000 masl and in Japanese children. Altitude, but not family income or maternal education level, significantly affected the scores of OSA, morning symptoms, and daytime excessive sleepiness. Conclusions: Living at altitudes higher than 3,000 masl may adversely affect children's sleep quality.

НАПРАВЛЕНИЯ ОБЕСПЕЧЕНИЯ ЭФФЕКТИВНОЙ ДЕЯТЕЛЬНОСТИ СЕМЕЙНЫХ ФОРМ АГРАРНОГО ПРОИЗВОДСТВА

In modern conditions, the issues of ensuring the effective functioning of small forms of economic activity are of great importance for the effective functioning of rural areas in social and economic and administrative aspects. In this regard, there is a need to substantiate effective models of economic activity for family forms of agricultural production. These issues are especially relevant for new regions of the Russian Federation. In the course of the study, it was established that peasant farms of Zaporozhye region, included in the cooperative, are differentiated by commodity. Representatives of the commodity group are the least numerous, but they use more than 50% of the total area of agricultural land. In order to improve the efficiency of using the resource potential, increase the number of commodity-type farms and improve the level of well-being of their members, it was proposed to optimize the structure of land use. The proposed land use structure is as follows: cherries - 48%, apricots - 15%, other fruits - 7%, potatoes - 21%, tomatoes - 5%, other crops - 4% of the total volume of agricultural land. Practical implementation of the proposed recommendations will reduce labor costs by 32.7%, but at the same time financial costs increase by 71.4%. Reducing the labor intensity of agricultural production increases the attractiveness of this model for family forms of farming. According to the research results, an increase in the conditional level of profitability by 269 points, as well as the level of family income by 16.2% is noted, which proves the social effect of the implementation of this project for residents of rural areas. A scientifically substantiated model of mutually beneficial cooperation of family forms of agricultural production is an incentive for their participation in the activities of cooperative integration entities.

DOES HEALTH LITERACY AND LIFE SATISFACTION PROMOTE HEALTHY EATING AMONG MARRIED WOMEN IN TURKEY?

Healthy nutrition is very important in preventing chronic diseases and promoting overall health. This study aimed to assess the influence of health literacy (HL) and life satisfaction on healthy eating habits among married women aged 18-64. The present cross-sectional study was conducted from 2022 to 2023. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with women attending family health centers in the central district of Yozgat province. Data collection instruments included a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Healthy Eating Attitudes Scale (HEAS), the Adult Life Satisfaction Scale (ALSS), and the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire-Short Form (EHLS-TR-16). A total of 303 women participated in the study. It was found that 59.4% of the women in the research group exhibited high levels of dietary attitudes, with 26.1% achieving an ideal high level. Women's dietary attitudes were influenced by increased life satisfaction (β=0.359), receiving nutritional information from healthcare professionals (β=0.124), and higher health literacy (β=0.113). No significant relationships were observed between healthy eating attitudes and factors such as age, body mass index, family income level, education level, household size, profession and spouse's profession, and education level. Women with higher life satisfaction, those who receive nutritional information from healthcare professionals, and those with higher health literacy have more positive attitudes toward healthy eating. It is recommended that women receive education on both health literacy and healthy eating.

Exposure of elementary school-aged Brazilian children to bisphenol A: association with demographic, social, and behavioral factors, and a worldwide comparison

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a plasticizer used to synthesize polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins and is well-known for its endocrine-disrupting action. BPA occurrence in the environment is widespread, and there is a growing concern regarding exposure to this chemical during childhood, given the findings indicating the long-lasting hazards associated with exposure during early life compared to adulthood. We examined urinary BPA concentrations from 319 elementary school-aged Brazilian children, using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry. We found that urinary BPA was detectable in the majority of children, and that urinary BPA levels were higher among children with lower family income and lower maternal educational levels. BPA levels found herein were compared with those from countries with different regulation policies concerning exposure to BPA. They were similar to those reported from studies conducted in Egypt and Australia. Despite more protective regulatory policies in the European Union, they were similar or lower than those reported in European studies. Our findings indicate that exposure of Brazilian children to BPA is widespread and comparable to or even lower than that of countries with stricter regulatory policies.

What Are the Differences of Luxury Goods Purchasing Behaviors of Hetero- Geneous Consumer Groups?

In today's world, many scholars have begun to research the different benefits that luxury goods bring to society. Although luxury goods research-only appeared in the last hundred years, it has an absolute voice in today's trend circle and even involves other industries. However, few people have researched the impact of different people's characteristics on luxury consumption, so I choose to research the difference in luxury purchase behaviors among heterogeneous groups. I believe this research will provide a clear picture of how this difference arises and what the implications are. This research provides empirical evidence for the differences of the luxury goods purchasing from heterogeneous consumer groups. This model could be applied to empirical studies of Economics and Sociology. In practice, the empirical findings from some surveys, data research and some expertise provide convincing evidence for the reliability of the model. It can be used that people with different characteristics have different purposes when acquiring luxury goods. Although there are some limitations in the current study, the findings could give researchers and practitioners suggestions to the impact of population heterogeneity on luxury purchases. Specifically, this study demon st-rates that gender, age, personal or family income, job content and local development level will all influence people's different opinions on luxury brands, so they have different purposes for using luxury goods in China.

What explains adolescents’ physical activity and sports participation during the COVID-19 pandemic? – an interpretable machine learning approach

ABSTRACT Adolescents’ physical activity (PA) and sports participation declined due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to determine the critical socio-ecological factors for PA and sports participation using a machine learning approach. We did a cross-sectional secondary data analysis utilising the 2021 National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) dataset (N=16,166; 49.0% female). We applied an interpretable machine learning approach (e.g. decision tree-based models) that examined the critical factors associated with PA and sports participation. The factors related to the intrapersonal, interpersonal, organisational, and community levels of the socio-ecological model. Out of the 25 factors examined, our findings unveiled the 11 critical factors associated with PA and the 10 critical factors associated with sports participation. Factors at the intrapersonal levels (e.g. age, screen time, and race) held greater importance to PA than those at the other three levels. While interpersonal factors (e.g. parent participation in children’s events/activities, family’s highest educational level, and family income level) were most important for sports participation. This study identified that the common critical factors of physical activity and sports participation during the COVID-19 pandemic mainly relied on intrapersonal and interpersonal levels. Unique factors were discussed.

Examination of Physical Activity Attitudes and Anti-Social Behaviors of Middle School Students

The aim of this study is to examine the physical activity attitudes and antisocial behaviors of middle school students. The research group of the study consisted of a total of 1046 students, 509 boys and 537 girls, aged between 11 and 13, studying in 5-6-7-8th grades in three secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Esenyurt district of Istanbul province in the 2022-2023 academic year. "Personal Information Form", "Physical Activity Attitude Scale for Secondary School Students" and "Antisocial Behavior Scale for Secondary School Students" were used as data collection tools. SPSS 25.0 statistical package program was used to evaluate the data and to find calculated values. Data were summarized by giving mean and standard deviations. Whether the data were normally distributed was checked with the range of Kurtosis and Skewness coefficients and it was determined that the data were normally distributed. Since the data were normally distributed, independent group t-test was used for pairwise cluster comparisons and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used for more than two cluster comparisons. Tukey HSD multiple comparison test was used to determine the source of significant differences as a result of ANOVA. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to determine whether there was a significant relationship between the mean scores of the Physical Activity Attitude Scale and Antisocial Behavior Scale sub-dimensions of the participants who participated in the study. Within the scope of this study, the scale reliability coefficient was calculated as .77. The significance level was taken as 0.05. As a result of the analysis, no significant difference was found between the physical activity attitudes of secondary school students and family income level and mother's working status (p>0.05), while a significant difference was found between gender, grade level, mother's education level and father's education level variables (p<0.05). While no significant difference was observed between antisocial behaviors and family income level (p>0.05), a significant difference was found between other demographic variables (p<0.05). In addition, while no significant difference was found between the self-confidence sub-dimension of the Physical Activity Attitude Scale and the inappropriate behavior sub-dimension of the Antisocial Behavior Scale (p>0.01), significant differences were found between the other sub-dimensions (p<0.01) As a result, it can be said that students' physical activity attitudes affect antisocial behaviors.

Does fiscal expenditure help to improve the fertility desire of rural families? An empirical study based on the CFPS database

This paper empirically examines the impact of the level of fiscal expenditure in the micro-family's region on the fertility desire of rural families in China. The empirical results of this paper indicate that fiscal expenditure can significantly enhance the fertility desire of rural families. After a series of robustness tests, the baseline regression results still hold. Further heterogeneity analysis indicates that the positive promotion effect of fiscal expenditure on the fertility desire of rural families is more pronounced for families in areas with lower degrees of marketization and for samples with lower family income levels.

Evaluation of Nutritional Preferences of School-Age Children and Parents Attitudes Towards Child Nutrition: A Cross-Sectional Study

Objective: This study aimed to examine the nutrition of school-age children and the influence of their parents. Method: The study involved 259 school-age children aged 9-12 and their volunteering parents from a province in Türkiye. A questionnaire was administered to the children questioning sociodemographic data and basic nutritional information, anthropometric measurements were taken, and the Parent Mealtime Action Scale was applied to their parents. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS 26 program. Results: It was found that the snack consumption status of children was related to the income status of the family's daily fruit and vegetable consumption (p<0.01). It has been found that animal fat restricted diet is associated with growth status in children (p<0.01). It has been determined that the children's eating situation is related to the persistent behavior of parents (p<0.05). It has been found that children who do not consume chips at all are also fed restricted animal fats in their daily diet. It was determined that bagel/cereal consumption was also excessive in children in whom rewarding was applied excessively (p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result, it was determined that school-age children's own preferences in food choices, as well as the parent's behavior and educational status, and the family's income level also have a significant impact. It is thought that it will be beneficial to provide nutrition education to parents and children in order to develop the right eating habits in school-age children and to increase the level of nutrition knowledge.

Socio-demographic and work-related factors associated with mental health disparities among nurses working in public sector hospitals

ABSTRACT This study addresses the mental health disparities among nurses based on various socio-demographic and work-related factors. Recognizing the widespread issue of mental health in the nursing profession, the study investigates the differences in the mental health of nurses to various socio-demographic and work-related factors. The study focused on hospital status, shift timing, education level, working hours, marital status, gender, family income level, and family size. Using convenient sampling, data were collected from 310 nurses working in public sector hospitals in Punjab, Pakistan. Kruskal Wallis H test, Mann Whitney U test, and Dunn's pairwise tests were used. The study findings revealed significant differences in mental health across these factors except for family size. Key findings highlight mental health disparities based on hospital status, shift timing, education level, working hours, marital status, gender, and family income. The study concludes that tailored interventions and support systems are essential to address the specific challenges faced by diverse nursing subgroups. The study contributes to the development of a resilient and well-supported nursing workforce. These findings have broader implications for nursing professional development, academic courses, and the overall well-being of healthcare professionals.

CDC: Many teens say they don't receive emotional support, but parents say they do

According to the federal National Health Interview Survey and National Health Interview Survey–Teen, there's a big gap between the emotional support parents think their adolescent children are getting, and the support the teens say they're getting. In 2021–2022, 58.5% of teenagers reported always or usually receiving the social and emotional support they needed. Differences were seen by several demographic characteristics including sex, race and Hispanic origin, sexual or gender minority status, highest parental education level, and family income level. Teenagers who always or usually received support were less likely to report poor or fair health, anxiety or depression symptoms, very low life satisfaction, and poor sleep quality. Parents consistently reported higher perceived levels of their teenager's social and emotional support compared with the teenager's self‐report.

Investigation of the Competencies of Teacher Candidates in Using Web 2.0 Tools

This study aimed to examine the web 2.0 tool usage competencies of Turkish and Turkish language and literature teacher candidates. The participants' proficiency with Web 2.0 tools was assessed in this context based on several characteristics. 279 teacher candidates (219 female and 59 males) were the subjects of the study, which was carried out at an eastern Turkish university. The data was gathered using Google Docs (Google Forms) and the “Web 2.0 Tools Usage Competency Scale (WAKYÖ)” created by Çelik (2021) as the data gathering method. The results of the study indicate that the digital competency of teacher applicants is frequently in the medium range. The results show that while most teacher applicants use social media, they don't use it frequently. In the gender-based examination, male teacher candidates performed much better than female teacher candidates when using Web 2.0 tools. However, an analysis of age groups shows that there are no discernible differences in Web 2.0 tool proficiency. The examination conducted based on the department or main science that each student pursued at the university revealed that teacher candidates with varying degrees of education possessed comparable levels of digital proficiency. However, there was no discernible difference in the analyses conducted based on the individuals' devices, their use of social media, the amount of time they spent on it each day, and whether or not they had taken computer or information technology courses during their undergraduate studies. The results showed no appreciable variation based on family income level. The results suggest that the focus of educational activities should be on more effective ways to improve digital skills. This makes it obvious that specialized training and support programs should be developed to fulfill the requirements of teacher candidates while taking into consideration factors like academic specialization and gender.

Comparison of Demographics Across the Burn, Spinal Cord Injury, and Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems

ObjectiveTo analyze the demographic profiles of participants in the traumatic brain injury, burn injury, and spinal cord injury model systems databases. DesignData from the Burn Model System (BMS), Traumatic Brain Injury Model System (TBIMS), and Spinal Cord Injury Model System (SCIMS) National Databases were analyzed from 1994-2020. ParticipantsThe study included participants aged ≥16 years (N=42,407) with available data in selected variables, totaling 4807 burn injury, 19,127 TBI, and 18,473 SCI participants. InterventionsNot applicable. Main Outcome MeasuresVariables including age, race, ethnicity, sex, education level, primary payor source, family income level, employment status at 1 year postinjury, etiology, and mortality at 1 year postinjury were analyzed across the database. ResultsMedian ages at injury for BMS (40.4y), TBIMS (40y), and SCIMS (38y) National Database participants were comparable. Men constituted approximately 75% of participants in the BMS, TBIMS, and SCIMS datasets, with approximately 75% having a high-school education or less. The proportion of participants funded by Medicare during initial hospital care varied across the BMS (14%), TBIMS (15.6%), and SCIMS (10.2%). For family income (data available for BMS and SCIMS), approximately 30% of these participants reported a family income <$25,000. Etiology data indicated 49.0% of traumatic brain injury and 40.7% of spinal cord injury cases resulted from vehicular incidents. ConclusionsAn overlapping at-risk population for these injuries appears to be middle-aged men with lower education levels and family incomes who have access to vehicles. This underscores the need for preventive initiatives tailored to this identified population to mitigate the risk of these injuries.

Predictors of the quality of life in siblings of children with chronic diseases

PurposeAdvances in medical sciences have contributed to the increase in children living with chronic diseases. The diagnosis of a chronic disease in a child can affect the quality of life of all family members, including siblings. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the predictors of quality of life among siblings aged 8 to 12 years who have a brother or sister with chronic diseases. MethodsIn this case-control study conducted in Rasht, 85 siblings of children with chronic diseases as the case group and 172 siblings of healthy children as the control group were recruited using cluster sampling. The two groups were matched for age and gender. Data were collected using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL TM) and a demographic questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, and logistic regression analysis tests via SPSS version 16. ResultsThe mean quality of life scores in the case and control groups were 88.86 ± 10.33 and 87.39 ± 10.89, respectively, indicating a desirable level within both groups. No statistically significant difference was found in this regard between the two groups. Based on the logistic regression analysis, three variables of number of family members (P = 0.03), mother's education level (P = 0.025), and family's income level (P = 0.023) were identified as significant predictors of quality of life. In this regard, it was found that the number of family members and the mother's education level were positively related to the quality of life, increasing the mean scores by 2.32 and 1.48, respectively. Conversely, a higher family income level was associated with a decrease in quality of life scores by 0.543. ConclusionsThe study found that the quality of life among siblings of children with chronic diseases is good, comparable to that of their peers. The findings imply that the chronicity of the disease does not significantly impair siblings' adaptation and overall well-being. Practice implicationsThe findings of this study can be used in various fields, including healthcare management, nursing clinical services, nursing education, and nursing research.

Malnutrition can occur since the baby is in the womb and only appears after two years of age. This study aims to analyze what factors influence the incidence of stunting in children under five years of age in the working area of Puskesmas Natarandang, Ngada Regency. This type of research is an analytic survey with a Case-Control Study research design. The sample size was 98 toddlers selected by proportional stratified reandom sampling. Data analysis used was univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis with chi square test and multiple logistic regression. The results showed that the factors that influenced the incidence of stunting were the mother's education level (p=0.001), mother's occupation (p=0.000), family size (p=0.000), level of maternal nutritional knowledge (p=0.000), history of illness (p=0.002), feeding practices (p=0.000), health care practices (p=0.008) and environmental hygiene and santation practices (p=0.000), while the factor that did not affect the incidence of stunting was the family income level (p=1.000). Perceived Social and Emotional Support Among Teenagers: United States, July 2021-December 2022.

This report uses data from the National Health Interview Survey and National Health Interview Survey-Teen to estimate the prevalence of self-reported social and emotional support among teenagers ages 12-17 years, describe differences in health and well-being outcomes by level of support received, and compare teen- and parent-reported estimates for social and emotional support overall and by selected teen and family characteristics. The percentage of teenagers who self-reported always or usually receiving social and emotional support by selected demographic characteristics, and potential differences in health outcomes by level of support, were estimated using data from the National Health Interview Survey-Teen collected from July 2021 through December 2022. In addition, data from the same time period from the National Health Interview Survey were used to compare parent-reported estimates of their teenager's social and emotional supports with the teenager's self-reported estimates. In 2021-2022, 58.5% of teenagers reported always or usually receiving the social and emotional support they needed. Prevalence and risk factors of food insecurity among Syrian refugees in Türkiye

BackgroundAlthough Türkiye (Turkey) hosts the largest number of Syrian refugees, studies on food insecurity are limited. This study examined the prevalence and risk factors of food insecurity among Syrian refugees living in Istanbul, which has the highest number of refugees in Türkiye.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted among Syrian refugees in Istanbul between September 2021 and March 2022. The main income earners of 103 households were interviewed by a research dietitian, with the assistance of an Arabic speaking interpreter through hour-long face-to-face. Data on sociodemographic characteristics (age, gender, nationality, marital status, educational status, the family income, the major source of family income, and the number of family members living in the household etc.) and household food insecurity status were collected. Household food insecurity status was assessed with the eighteen-item Household Food Security Survey Module.ResultsThe household food insecurity rate was 90.3%, and those of adults and children were 88.4% and 84.8%, respectively. It was observed that family income level was significantly associated with food insecurity. A one-unit increase in monthly income increased food security by 0.02 times (p < 0.001). The number of employed refugees in the food security group was higher than that in the food insecurity group (p = 0.018). A significant difference was found in the rate of occupation type of the major income earner between the groups (p = 0.046).ConclusionsHigh rates of food insecurity, particularly severe food insecurity, were found among Syrian refugees living in Istanbul. While more research is warranted to explore the root causes and efficacy of the current support system, it requires the immediate attention of policymakers at the national and international levels to implement effective policies and interventions.

Perceived Impacts of the Expanded Child Tax Credit Cessation Based on Family Income Level.

The 2021 Expanded Child Tax Credit (ECTC) lifted millions of children out of poverty and drastically improved well-being. These impacts were particularly salient for families with lower income among those who received the full ECTC benefit. This study gathered lived experiences on the ECTC cessation and explored differential impacts across income levels to inform discussions around policy restoration. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with parents who had a child (2-12 years) who received the full ECTC. Interviews occurred in May 2022 after the ECTC ended. Changes in financial security and health were assessed. Families were classified as having lower vs. higher income (LI; n=19 vs. HI; n=19) corresponding to household income below vs. above 200% of the Federal Poverty Line. Inductive analysis and constant-comparison methods generated themes on similarities/differences between groups. Results indicated families with LI experienced severe financial constraints and greater negative emotions, after the ECTC ended. Many reduced spending, budgeted, accepted financial support from family/friends, and delayed credit card payments. More families with HI reported the ECTC provided a financial buffer placingthem in a more secure position to meet current needs. Both groups reported negative impacts from inflation coinciding with the ECTC ending and minimal changes in their income tax return. Families overwhelmingly reported a desire for the ECTC to continue, despite experiencing different degrees of impact due to these financial changes. Families with LI faced greater hardships after the ECTC ended. Differences across income highlight the need for ECTC restoration, particularly for families in severely under-resourced circumstances.
