The paper presents the results of recovery tests carried out in large diameter wells tapping the groundwater resource in weathered hard rocks. The results of the analysis of the physical characteristics of the wells tested indicate that the position in the weathering profile at which a well is completed is a major factor affecting groundwater yield from weathered hard rocks. Because of the low transmissivity of this medium, the use of large diameters allow accumulation over time and such stored water can sustain short-term high abstraction rates.
