Pemanfaatan Aplikasi Mendeley sebagai Sistem Manajer Referensi Digital untuk Penulisan Karya Ilmiah bagi Guru Bahasa Arab di Banten

Background: Citation cannot be separated from scientific work. The initial survey results show that most teachers who are members of the Arabic Subject Teacher Consultation in Banten still do not understand how to write good scientific papers, including how to cite and create a bibliography or reference automatically. Mendeley is a citation management application that is free or open-source, user-friendly, has an attractive appearance, and can be used on online and offline devices. For this reason, community service activities and collaborations for teachers at Banten need to be held so that teachers can receive training in using Mendeley to manage scientific documents. Methods: Partner participation is carried out with a training program within one day. The technique used is workshop, mentoring and evaluation. Workshop activities to introduce applications, benefits and how Mendeley works, then video tutorials on installation on laptop devices are given. Results: This service activity resulted in 1) 90% of teachers getting additional knowledge and insight regarding the use of the Mendeley application as a digital reference management system for writing scientific papers, 2) providing training to teachers on the technical use of the Mendeley application as a digital reference management system for writing works scientifically. Conclusion: Through this training, 90% of teachers at the Banten can use the Mendeley application to support scientific article writing and encourage the productivity of each teacher to write scientific articles.

198 A Novel ‘Virtual Simulation’ for The Advanced Life Support Group, Making a Dream a Reality: A Beginner’s Guide

In the UK, it is a requirement for staff involved in paediatric critical care to remain up to date with advanced paediatric life support (APLS). To do so there is an expectation to participate in face-to-face courses on a four-yearly basis. The Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG), an organization dedicated to supporting professional education, sought to add to their resources in line with advances in online capabilities. With stakeholder input, the goal emerged to develop an engaging, interactive and entirely novel educational product. Here we present the pilot stages of our project.The aim of this project was to produce an educationally effective and novel product that learners of APLS would engage with and enjoy.Stage 1 involved determining clearly defined learning objectives mapped to the APLS curriculum. At a round table with stakeholders, educationalists, and a technologist an outline of the project was formed and the scenario of a sick baby with bronchiolitis chosen for a pilot. Informed by literature on serious game design, a branching narrative was created. Stage 2 involved collating resources. A photoshoot at Leicester Royal Infirmary A&E (Accident and Emergency) created a set of images. A video shoot at the Royal London Hospital A&E generated a series of videos. These were then edited and used to create a Microsoft PowerPoint slide set. Voiceovers to text, sound effects to add a hospital atmosphere and questions were then added. Stage 3 involved taking this draft and translating it into an interactive final product utilizing Articulate Software. This enabled its usage across smartphone, desktop, and laptop devices. Testing followed with anonymous online feedback informed by the 7Is framework We launched the pilot version at the RCPCH (Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health) Conference 2021. Feedback was collected from delegates and continues to be collected via online participants. It is hoped that ongoing quality improvement cycles will assist in assuring a finished fully functional online virtual advanced paediatric life support simulation for release in 2022. Further stakeholder review is pending. Thus far it has been met with universal approval, i.e. all learners questioned expressed that they would like to utilize this novel style of education again. The average duration to complete the virtual simulation was 15 minutes. All learners rated their knowledge and skills in APLS to be either unchanged/revised or improved. Finally, interactivity online was felt to need improvement by most participants. Interactivity is key if high levels of engagement are to be achieved. Do outcomes from high stakes examinations taken in test centres and via live remote proctoring differ?

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic brought with it the closure of many bricks-and-mortar testing centres and a concomitant move to the remote (online) proctoring of many credentialing exams that were scheduled to take place throughout 2020. In effect, this meant changing from a standardized to a non-standardized administration of tests given that candidates could take tests at home using personal desktop or laptop devices. This in turn begs the question: do outcomes across tests taken in testing centres and via live remote proctoring differ? Due to the relative novelty of remote proctoring, research addressing this question is currently thin on the ground, thus justifying the research described in this paper. The study uses data from eleven professional licensure examinations taken by 14,097 candidates across four US States to compare outcomes for tests proctored either in test centres or remotely in real-time using live remote proctoring (LRP) software. Candidate outcomes were compared using average percent correct and passing rates. Test psychometric properties were compared using KR-20 reliability, decision consistency (Subkoviak's c), item difficulty, item discrimination and time taken to complete tests. At the individual test level, while some statistically significant differences were observed in outcomes across the two proctoring modes, most effect sizes were small. Overall, with the exception of some observable differences in metrics pertaining to item discrimination and timing, no detectable pattern was observed in favour of either mode. The study is significant in that it provides early evidence supporting the use of LRP in high stakes contexts.

Compact closed‐slot eight‐antenna system for 5G laptops with a metal back cover

SummaryThis paper presents the design of a compact closed‐slot sub‐6‐GHz dual‐band eight‐antenna system on a 5G laptop with a metal back cover. The antenna system is installed in a 277 × 2 mm2 clearance area that is 3 mm below the upper edge of the metal back cover of the laptop. Each single closed‐slot antenna element measures 32 × 2 mm2 and features an inverted‐C feeding section and a crossover path consisting of a meandered section and a series chip capacitor. The crossover path can help generate a resonance mode at high frequencies while adjusting the frequency location of the low‐frequency mode, allowing the closed‐slot antenna to support the 3300‐ to 3600‐ and 4800‐ to 5000‐MHz dual‐band operation required for sub‐6‐GHz 5G. The eight closed‐slot antenna elements are oriented in the same direction and aligned in the same axis with a 3‐mm separation between any two adjacent antenna elements. Without the help of any isolation elements, the resultant eight‐element multi‐input multi‐output (MIMO) antenna system possesses measured isolations of larger than 10 dB. The envelope correlation coefficients (ECCs) calculated from the measured complex radiation patterns are all less than 0.105, and the measured antenna efficiencies are over 40%. These results indicate that the proposed MIMO antenna system is ideal for use in laptop devices with a metal back cover and a large screen‐to‐body ratio.

Telehealth for consultation and shoulder rehabilitation: a preliminary study on the perspectives of 30 patients during the COVID-19 lockdown.

BackgroundThis study aimed to determine: the perspectives of the patient cohort that underwent telehealth consultation and shoulder rehabilitation during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the differences in the patients’ perspectives with the two different telehealth video applications (apps) used in the study.MethodsThis is a prospective study carried out during the COVID lockdown period of April to July 2020. Thirty consecutive patients from the orthopedics department of a tertiary institute in India underwent their first-ever session of a video app-based (Zoom or WhatsApp) telehealth consultation with shoulder rehabilitation exercises on a handheld mobile, tablet, or laptop device. After the virtual consultation, the patients were sent a validated telehealth usability questionnaire (TUQ) to evaluate their perspectives. Scores obtained from the TUQ were the primary outcome measure.ResultsThe study was completed by 30 patients (16 men and 14 women) with an average age of 56 years (range, 20–77 years). The patients who contacted us during the lockdown period with either a stiff shoulder or a conservatively treated shoulder fracture were included in the study. The average TUQ score was 13.6 (median, 14.5; range, 6–21) out of a maximum of 21 points. Eighty percent of the patients were satisfied and found the telehealth service useful. Use of the Zoom app scored significantly higher (median, 17; average, 15.6) than the WhatsApp app (median, 8.5; average, 9.6) (p=0.004).ConclusionsPatients who received telehealth consultation and shoulder rehabilitation were overall satisfied. Telehealth apps with advanced video calling features such as Zoom should be preferred for higher patient satisfaction.

Compute and Memory Efficient Universal Sound Source Separation

Recent progress in audio source separation lead by deep learning has enabled many neural network models to provide robust solutions to this fundamental estimation problem. In this study, we provide a family of efficient neural network architectures for general purpose audio source separation while focusing on multiple computational aspects that hinder the application of neural networks in real-world scenarios. The backbone structure of this convolutional network is the SUccessive DOwnsampling and Resampling of Multi-Resolution Features (SuDoRM-RF) as well as their aggregation which is performed through simple one-dimensional convolutions. This mechanism enables our models to obtain high fidelity signal separation in a wide variety of settings where variable number of sources are present and with limited computational resources (e.g. floating point operations, memory footprint, number of parameters and latency). Our experiments show that SuDoRM-RF models perform comparably and even surpass several state-of-the-art benchmarks with significantly higher computational resource requirements. The causal variation of SuDoRM-RF is able to obtain competitive performance in real-time speech separation of around 10dB scale-invariant signal-to-distortion ratio improvement (SI-SDRi) while remaining up to 20 times faster than real-time on a laptop device.

Pemanfaatan Aplikasi Power Point dalam Pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam dalam Peningkatan Motivasi Belajar siswa di SMP PAB 1 Klumpang

The purpose of implementing the Community Partnership Program (PKM) is to provide knowledge and skills to create and use attractive power point applications to teachers at SMP PAB 1 Klumpang. The method used in this activity is the direct method, where the team directly provides training to the participants, and each participant with their laptop device takes steps to use the power point application taught by the presenter/trainer. The results achieved from this program are 82% of the participants are able to make and use the power point applications well that are trained to them, and can apply them in carrying out learning activities.Keywords: Power Point, Learning, Islamic Religious Education

Discourse of resistance in Fani-Kayode’s political posts on Facebook

This study examined the discourse of resistance in Fem Fani-Kayode’s (FFK) Facebook posts. FFK’s use of language of resistance has not attracted the attention of scholars, especially in Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The thrust of this work is to investigate and examine different resistance strategies in some of his political posts. Data for this work were collected from the Facebook page of Fani-Kayode. The posts were downloaded and saved on the laptop device for further analysis. The work adopts a purposive sampling method in data collection, which was preferred because it allows manual assessment of FFK posts to extract relevant data for this work. Five political posts were selected and downloaded from his Facebook page. The five posts were selected because they discussed critical political and security issues in the country. From the five posts, 12 extracts were culled because of their resourcefulness in the use of resistance strategies. This study adopted qualitative analysis using CDA because CDA helps to unravel inherent ideologies in the posts. The study identified and discussed different resistance strategies in the FFK posts on Facebook and their implications. The identified resistance strategies include: proposition, presupposition, negation, propaganda, and emotive lexis. The study submits that the strategies have political, social and academic implications for society. It concludes that social media users should filter information on the media before they react, to avoid the dissemination of wrong information and prevent conflict in the society.

Research investigating individual device preference and e-learning quality perception: can a one-solution-fits-all e-learning solution work?

BackgroundCOVID-19 caused a paradigm shift for educators, and raised many questions about the future of technology in the delivery of educational content. Literature highlights numerous benefits of using e-learning solutions, yet many still consider ‘online learning’ as the cheap/‘low-quality’ alternative to traditional ‘face-to-face’ models. In this research we ask two questions that are critical to the effective development of future e-learning solutions: Do students prefer face-to-face (traditional) learning methods or e-learning technology enabled solutions? Does perception of e-learning, and/or device preference, vary between individuals? MethodsA three part, quantitative questionnaire was developed, based on previously used questionnaire items, which collected: demographic data, student preference concerning learning, and individual variance - via use of the Cultural Value (CV) Scale dimension test. Data was collected from 518 participants using convenience sampling from a range of universities in Pakistan. EFA and CFA showed that questions and factor loading was good. CV Scale results show clear loading and model fit at the individual level, allowing application of results beyond Pakistan. ResultsBy considering the CV Scale dimensions, our results highlighted three distinct technology preference clusters: i) students, with a high-power distance score, who prefer traditional face-to-face teaching methods; ii) students with low power distance and high uncertainty avoidance scores, who prefer use of e-learning on their mobile devices, and iii) students with low power distance and low uncertainty avoidance scored, who prefer to use laptop devices. ConclusionsThis paper highlights that the majority of students are happy to engage with online blended learning solutions, however a one-solution fits all approach to technology use in education fail to satisfy the interaction preferences need of all student groups. Only by embracing flexible and mixed blend delivery models, supporting interaction across a range of pervasive devices, can we maximize student perception towards education service provision.

The Utilization Of Geography Learning Media At High School In Karanganyar Regency


 Abstract
 
 The purpose of this study is to find out about the availability of learning media, including 1) Type, 2) Amount, and 3) Conditions. The research carried out is descriptive research with research data is quantitative data. The study was conducted in 23 high schools in Karanganyar Regency. The population in this study were all high school geography teachers and high school students of class X, XI Social Program and XII Social Program in Karanganyar Regency, which consisted of 17 state high schools and 6 private high schools. The high school which was used as the research subject was determined by proportional random sampling technique to obtain 13 high schools. Futhermore, the samples of teachers and students was determined by purposive sampling, where in each school took 1 teacher respondent and 6 students, so the total sample of teachers was 13 people and students were 78 people. The technique of collecting data in the study uses questionnaire, interview and observation methods. The analysis technique used is descriptive statistical analysis. In summary, from this research found the data condition of geography learning media of high school in Karanganyar Regency in 2016 were obtained, including; 1) The most types of media are Atlas, Pictures, Globe, Maps, Slide Powerpoint, and Computer / Laptop devices, 2) The number of media is classified as medium or available in every media in the school, and 3) The condition of the media is classified as poorly maintained for physical media and is very well maintained for media based on Digital Information Technology.

Use of webinar tools for teaching and learning by library and information professionals in Nigeria

The study investigated the use of webinar tools for teaching and learning by library and information professionals in Nigeria. The research objectives were to determine the level of ICT skills for webinar utilisation possessed by library and information professionals in Nigeria; ascertain the devices used for participating in webinars by Nigerian library and information professionals; ascertain the webinar platforms used by library and information professionals, and two others. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design and structured questionnaire was adopted as instrument for data collection. The instrument was converted to an online survey using online Google forms which was posted on the Nigerian Library Association (NLA) platform soliciting responses from members of the platform. The survey response summary showed that 109 library and information professionals participated in the study. The data were retrieved and analysed using descriptive statistics of tables, frequency, percentages, mean and standard deviation. The findings revealed that the level of librarians’ ICT skills regarding webinar participation is high (3.40 grand mean), and the majority of LIS professionals studied in Nigeria used smart phone and laptop devices for webinar participation, followed by tablets. Most of the respondents use Zoom, followed by Youtube as platforms for participation in webinars and two other findings. It was concluded that webinars play a very significant role, therefore full adoption and use of webinars in all learning institutions in Nigeria should be encouraged.

Multi-Channel Method of Non-isolated DC Voltmeter for EFI Instrument Measure

The use of instruments for vehicle repair is very important to use. However, the instrument is very expensive and many features are not used. So that in this study designed a simple measuring instrument that is able to measure the size of the sensor. The tool uses a 32bit based microcontroller integrated with bluetooth. There are 4 voltage gauge channels. The reading data is communicated to the graphic user interface (GUI) on the laptop device. The measuring instrument can record the measured sensor on a vehicle for 1 minute for analysis.

Disrupting Digital Divide Narratives: Exploring the U.S. Black Diasporic Immigrant Context

AbstractThe purpose of this study is to probe biased library and information science (LIS) presumptions of digital divides among U.S. immigrants. The stance of the foreign-born as “digital immigrants” departs from migration and population research which hold that gaps in immigrant Internet and technology access are rapidly closing, even when accounting for immigrant type. The research is based on analysis of the 2016 U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey data. Black immigrant households’ ICT device and Internet access were determined and then compared to those of the general population. Findings suggest that Black immigrant households primarily access the Internet through smartphone and laptop devices along with mobile and at-home hi-speed Internet plans. When compared to the general population, Black immigrant households demonstrate significantly greater smartphone access, and they maintain comparable levels of hi-speed Internet and computer/laptop device access. This study adds to a growing body of research on the narrowing digital divide gap among U.S. immigrants. Immigrants rely on the Internet to transition and integrate into U.S. society.

Tablet vs. station-based laptop ultrasound devices increases internal medicine resident point-of-care ultrasound performance: a prospective cohort study

BackgroundPoint-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is becoming an important part of internal medicine (IM) residency training. Achieving competency requires performing a large volume of clinical exams which can be difficult within the constraints of residency. Often-cited barriers include insufficient resident time and the interruption of daily workflow. Despite availability of hospital station-based laptop ultrasound machines, we hypothesized that the addition of ward team-based tablet ultrasound devices would lower barriers and increase clinical POCUS volume within an IM residency POCUS curriculum at a 670-bed, quaternary care, teaching hospital. IM resident POCUS volumes and characteristics during an 18-mo. baseline (station-based laptop devices only) period were compared to matched months during the intervention (station-based + tablet).ResultsTotal patients examined with POCUS by 6 inpatient resident teams during the 18-mo. baseline and intervention periods were 1386 and 1853, respectively. Patients examined per month increased during the intervention by 34% (77 vs. 103, p = 0.002). The number of areas (e.g., abdominal, cardiac) and items (e.g., bladder, pericardial effusion) examined per month increased by 27% (p = 0.021) and 23% (p = 0.073), respectively.ConclusionsA combined program infrastructure of station-based laptop and “in-the-pocket” tablet ultrasound devices lowered common POCUS barriers of inadequate time and workflow disruption for IM residents and resulted in a meaningful increase of exams within a longitudinal residency-based training program where station-based laptop devices already existed.

Development of heutagogy approach in M-learning for sustainability education

Lifelong education is increasingly popular among Malaysians in accordance with the formation of a stable economy. The need for education is no longer limited, and this education has given equal opportunities to all citizens, especially to the working class. Therefore, this study is to identify the elements of need that the educational student needs throughout the development of m-learning for lifelong education. A total of 11 experts were selected to analyze the fuzziness consensus of experts. All of the data obtained will be analyzed using the Fuzzy Delphi method. The findings show that smartphones are the most appropriate devices in helping students with thorough education and the smartphones sit at the first position as compared to tablet PC and laptop devices. Whereas, the six heutagogy elements that explore, create, connect, share, reflect, and collaborate have reached unity with the threshold value of d ≤ 0.2 and the percentage of the expert group is more than 75%. However, the sharing elements have the highest position in the development of modules for lifelong education. Therefore, based on the consensus agreements, the development of modules for these lifelong educational students should be incorporated with the elements of heutagogy according to the position in the expert consensus.

Media Photo Story dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di Sekolah Dasar

At present the use of learning media is not optimal. Media that is widely used is only limited to visual print media so that learning still cannot bring out the curiosity of students during learning. Even though learning media is one of the most important elements to support the success of the learning process. In the process of Indonesian language learning in elementary school, students are required to be able to develop four language skills, listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The photo story media includes audio visual media that can help students master the four language skills. Photo story media is a picture of a story that has meaning, displayed through video shows using a computer or laptop device. The use of photo story media can stimulate the imagination of students and increase motivation in learning Indonesian. Thus, learning Indonesian in elementary schools by utilizing photo story media is able to accommodate learning to be more meaningful, stimulate the imagination of students, motivate learning activities and of course help students develop their language skills.

Partnering With Parents

Contributing to a decade of national research on device ownership and app usage, this study provides evidence of how children from 120 homes across 46 classrooms use apps and portable technology to support their reading development. Parent survey data reveals 99% of children use technology to support reading in the home, primarily on iPad and laptop devices. Apps used most frequently include Istation, YouTube, and PBS Kids Video. To gather parent perceptions and depth of children's technology use, 13 individual interviews were conducted with parents from the same sample. Parents preferred their child read with print books, yet parents allowed their child to use portable technology, in response to their child's interest in technology and general pressure to keep pace with technology skill demands. The finding that nearly all children in this study supported reading skills with portable technology in the home demonstrates the need to foster partnerships between parents and teachers that builds on children's technological knowledge and use to deepen learning between home and school.

Advanced Fiber Optic and Ultrasonic Sensor Systems for Structural Health Monitoring of Pipes in Nuclear Waste Sites

Abstract Nuclear waste sites across the United States and other countries store, transfer and vitrify nuclear waste. These sites often require transfer pipelines for high and low level radioactive wastes in the form of solids/slurries, fluids including chemicals. Since, these pipelines deal with harmful nuclear wastes, structural health monitoring is of utmost importance. Pipelines are continuously monitored to enhance the safety of the people and environment around the facilities. Monitoring may involve leak, crack detection and wear (in the form of corrosion or thinning). Current research builds on author's previous work on sensors for erosion and thermal monitoring in pipes and plates [1, 2, and 3]. Present work involves a) validation and monitoring of a novel advanced Fiber Optic Sensor System to detect cracks and leaks in carbon steel pipes and b) the use of Ultrasonic (UT) sensors to detect thinning in pipe sections due to erosion-corrosion using small coupons. The fiber optic sensors developed by CEL [4], are used in conducting engineering scale testing on an in-house designed and assembled erosion pipe flow loop. The loop consists of 2 and 3 inch straight and elbow sections of carbon steel replicating the pipelines at the sites. Three fiber optic sensors are placed at critical locations around the loop. The equipment also includes a communication box and a laptop device for data acquisition. The sensor system uses a combination of fiber optic and acoustic technologies to accurately identify the location of a pipeline leak or crack. Sensors capture the changes in pressure caused by the fluid/slurry flowing through the loop. A “zone” is defined as the distance between any two sensor points. When any two sensors simultaneously detect a leak, a determination can be made as to how far from each sensor the activity is occurring and “zero in” on the event. A number of zones may be linked together to manage vast expanses of pipeline. Sensors provide instantaneous event data to the hardware (the interrogator), and the interrogator may be located great distances from the actual pipeline in secure, environmentally protected areas. Multiple Interrogators may be linked together that are simultaneously streaming real-time data to the command and control software. Event notifications may then be managed from the customer's control room, or immediately “pushed” to a variety of mobile devices to alert personnel of the situation [5]. Additionally, Ultrasonic (UT) sensors are used for thickness measurements in pipes. The objective is to measure the wear in pipelines due to erosion-corrosion using small scale erosion coupons. These erosion coupons are made of carbon steel with ½ inch in diameter and 1 inch height. The method involves insertion of the coupons into holes drilled in the pipe sections of the erosion loop. This process ensures that the coupons are in contact with the flow stream and hence eroded in a minute scale over a period of time. The coupons have a slot for insertion of the sensors to measure the thickness in real-time when needed. Upon successful testing of the coupon and sensors, the method can be used to predict the erosion rates and hence the remaining useful life of the pipe sections without having to replace them unnecessarily. Hence, the present research conducts structural health monitoring of carbon steel pipes using fiber optic and UT sensors. The sensors have been validated and verified for their potential future deployment in the nuclear waste sites.

Home Switching using IoT System via Telegram and Web User Interface

Nowadays, the Internet of Things (IoT) becomes ubiquitous in engineering field and is perceived as paradigms for applications such as a home automation system where data can be exchanged and shared easily across the Internet. This project focuses on the implementation of the home automation system with Telegram using Wireless-Fidelity (Wi-Fi) network access on any smart-phone and laptop devices. It is highly beneficial for elderly, physically-challenged people and travellers to control home appliances effortlessly. This system aims to solve the limitation faced by the technology used in the existing home automation system such as Bluetooth -distance issue, Global Standard for Mobile Communication (GSM) – cost issue and Zigbee – power and bandwidth constraint. In fact, this system provides an interactive graphical user interface (GUI) on both web and Telegram platform where data can be interchanged and synchronized between both GUI in which sensor’s readings and status of home appliances can be monitored and manipulated consistently. The analytical findings based on temperature sensor’s accuracy and system latency showed that the performance of the system is viable, and the system proved to be more prominent than other home automation systems.
