This article deals with a group of 100 patients presenting obstructive epiphora due to anatomical changes localized in different parts of the lacrimal system. Before therapy, all patients were submitted to accurate diagnostic examinations (lacrimal probing, clinical tests, tonometry and dacryography) and in 73 patients bacteriological examinations of the tears, taken from the inner lacrimal duct, were done.Subsequently, a course of therapy with intracanalicular cortisone antibiotic ocular ointment was instituted, for the duration of up to three months. In 41% of cases a complete cure or notable improvement was obtained, with recanalization of the duct and in 48% of the cases a reduction of the inflammation was achieved, however, without improvement of the patency.
