Wave solutions to an integrable negative order KdV equation

In this paper, we study the traveling wave solutions to the second representative equation of the negative-order Korteweg–de Vries hierarchy. The corresponding traveling wave system is a singular planar dynamical system with a singular straight line. By using the method of dynamical systems, explicit solutions are given. But this integrable negative order Korteweg–de Vries flow has no traveling solitary wave solution.

Conserved energies for the one dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation

We prove the well-posedness results for the one dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation in the energy space, which is a complete metric space equipped with a newly introduced metric and with the energy norm describing the Hs regularities of the solutions. We establish a family of conserved energies for the one dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation, such that all the energy norms of the solutions are conserved globally in time. This family of energies is also conserved by the complex modified Korteweg-de Vries flow.

One smoothing property of the scattering map of the KdV on $\mathbb{R}$

In this paper we prove that in appropriate weighted Sobolev spaces, in the case of no bound states, the scattering map of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) on $\mathbb{R}$ is a perturbation of the Fourier transform by a regularizing operator. As an application of this result, we show that the difference of the KdV flow and the corresponding Airy flow is 1-smoothing.

Derivation of Korteweg–de Vries flow equations from the short‐wave model equation

KdV GEOMETRIC FLOWS ON KÄHLER MANIFOLDS

In this paper, we define a kind of KdV (Korteweg–de Vries) geometric flow for maps from a real line ℝ or a circle S1 into a Kähler manifold (N, J, h) with complex structure J and metric h as the generalization of the vortex filament dynamics from a real line or a circle. By Hasimoto transformation, we find that the KdV geometric flow on a Riemann surface of constant Gauss curvature is just classical complex-valued mKdV equation. From the view point of geometric analysis we show that the Cauchy problems of KdV flow on a Kähler manifold admits a unique local solution in suitable Sobolev spaces. In the case the target manifold (N, J, h) with complex structure J and metric h is a certain type of locally Hermitian symmetric space, we show that the KdV flow exists globally by exploiting the conservation laws and semi-conservation law of KdV flow.

A logarithmic Sobolev inequality for the invariant measure of the periodic Korteweg–de Vries equation

The periodic Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) equation arises from a Hamiltonian system with infinite-dimensional phase space . Bourgain has shown that there exists a Gibbs probability measure ν on balls in the phase space such that the Cauchy problem for KdV is well posed on the support of ν, and ν is invariant under the KdV flow. This paper shows that ν satisfies a logarithmic Sobolev inequality. This paper also presents logarithmic Sobolev inequalities for the modified periodic KdV equation and the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation, for small values of N.

Derivation of Korteweg–de Vries flow equations from the regularized long-wave (RLW) equation

Hamiltonian flows on null curves

The local motion of a null curve in Minkowski 3-space induces an evolution equation for its Lorentz invariant curvature. Special motions are constructed whose induced evolution equations are the members of the Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) hierarchy. The null curves which move under the KdV flow without changing shape are proven to be the trajectories of a certain particle model on null curves described by a Lagrangian linear in the curvature. In addition, we show that the curvature of a null curve which evolves by similarities can be computed in terms of the solutions of the second Painlevé equation.

Meromorphic solutions to the KdV equation with non-decaying initial data supported on a left half line

We show that under the Korteweg–de Vries flow an initial profile supported on (−∞, 0) from a very broad function class (without any decay assumption) instantaneously evolves into a meromorphic function with no poles on the real line. Our treatment is based on a suitable modification of the inverse scattering transform and a detailed investigation of the Titchmarsh–Weyl m-function. As a by-product, we improve some related results of others.

Hamilton–Jacobi theory in three-dimensional Minkowski space via Cartan geometry

A complete solution to the problem of orthogonal separation of variables of the Hamilton–Jacobi equation in three-dimensional Minkowski space is obtained. The solution is based on the underlying ideas of Cartan geometry and ultimately developed into a general new algorithm that can be employed in the study of Hamiltonian systems defined by natural Hamiltonians within the framework of Hamilton–Jacobi theory. To demonstrate its effectiveness, we investigate from this viewpoint the Morosi–Tondo integrable system derived as a stationary reduction of the seventh-order Korteweg–de Vries flow to show explicitly that the system in question is an orthogonally separable Hamiltonian system. The latter result is a new characterization of the Morosi–Tondo system.

Integrable Rosochatius deformations of the restricted soliton flows

A method to construct integrable Rosochatius deformations of the restricted soliton flows in the setup of Lax formulation is presented. The integrable Rosochatius deformations of the restricted soliton flows such as the restricted Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur flow, the restricted Tu-Meng flow, the restricted Tu flow with Neumann-type constraints, and the restricted modified Korteweg–de Vries flow, together with their Lax representations, are presented. In addition, a Lax representation of the Jacobi-Rosochatius system is obtained.

Notes on symplectic non-squeezing of the KdV flow

We prove two finite dimensional approximation results and a symplectic non-squeezing property for the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) flow on the circle 𝕋. The nonsqueezing result relies on the aforementioned approximations and the finite-dimensional nonsqueezing theorem of Gromov [14]. Unlike the work of Kuksin [22] which initiated the investigation of non-squeezing results for infinite dimensional Hamiltonian systems, the nonsqueezing argument here does not construct a capacity directly. In this way our results are similar to those obtained for the NLS flow by Bourgain [3]. A major difficulty here though is the lack of any sort of smoothing estimate which would allow us to easily approximate the infinite dimensional KdV flow by a finite-dimensional Hamiltonian flow. To resolve this problem we invert the Miura transform and work on the level of the modified KdV (mKdV) equation, for which smoothing estimates can be established.
