The Soundscape and Listening as an Approach to Sensuous Urbanism: The Case of Puerta del Sol (Madrid)

This article focuses on the placemaking process and experimental research on the citizens’ assessment of the soundscape in Puerta del Sol in Madrid. Numerous studies conducted in recent decades have shown that sound is a crucial element capable of providing new insights into the relationship between human beings and the environment. Sound possesses physical-sensory-perceptual qualities which connect the emotional and the rational aspects of the experience of the place, overcoming the aesthetic/scientific duality. By default, the soundscape is the result of a collective production. It is the resonant expression of the multiple activities and uses that inhabit a space. The soundscape of everyday life provides a vision of life in a particular place, giving meaning and a singular character to the fact of living there. The concept and methods of the soundscape arise from sensitive experiences of the place in direct relation to a community. This exploratory research focused on in situ methods (soundwalks, improvised interview mappings, sound archives, performances, and collective sound actions) as expressions of collective listening to place. This article also focuses on how to map and share the result of this research, the technology to build a collective digital place as a place of confluence of experiences, citizen knowledge, and reflection on the situated soundscape.

Critical Review of Geographic Illiteracy in the United States: A Multifaceted Analysis

This paper explores the concept of geographic illiteracy in general, and specifically in the United States over the last several decades. The researcher sets out by placing geographic literacy concerns and challenges within the context of the broader literacy challenges raised in the United States in the last quarter of the previous century via the 1983 published landmark education report, A Nation At Risk. Geography illiteracy, also called ‘geo-illiteracy’ is demonstrated from reports and statistics comparing geographic achievements internationally among nations in certain cohorts, and the state of geographic education nationally, is examined. The importance of geography education-literacy is highlighted, and the researcher explores several authoritative sources including organizations, scholars, and writers on the subject, and then from an analysis of the extant literature, devises “Five Theses” as to the causes of geographic illiteracy (culture value thesis, curricular thesis, corporate-economic value thesis, and perceptions of geography thesis). The consequences of geographic illiteracy are then examined under “Five Themes” referred to as ‘challenges’ (environmental-sustainability challenge, economic challenge, national competitiveness challenge, threat to national security challenge, and well-being and happiness challenge). Finally, the researcher presents several recommendations for improving geographic literacy across the United States, noting that a public policy effort by the federal and state governments must ultimately be the most viable solution to improving the geographic knowledge and skills of American citizens.

The significance of education, democratic values, and political trust across different countries

This study aimed to analyze the critical role that education plays in shaping democratic values and fostering political trust across different countries. This looked at how education, democratic values and political trust are related in many nations, emphasizing how significant these sub-variables are for promoting social cohesion and sustainable government. The study analyzed how educational attainment affects citizens' comprehension of democratic principles and, in turn, their trust in political institutions by examining cross-national data. It looked into how educational systems may foster critical thinking and civic involvement, two things that are crucial for fostering democratic values. This research used data mining method with qualitative analysis approach in analyzing the significance of education, democratic values and political trust. Data mining methods involving qualitative analysis focus on extracting meaningful patterns and insights from qualitative data. This approach emphasizes understanding the underlying themes and contexts within the data, utilizing techniques like thematic analysis, grounded theory, and content analysis. The results showed that political trust rises with educational attainment, indicating that knowledgeable citizens are more inclined to participate in democratic processes and favor stable government. The study emphasized how important it is for policymakers to give education top priority because it is a fundamental component of bolstering democracy and boosting political legitimacy, both of which lead to more resilient societies.

Significance of Negaraku as a National Symbol: A Review of National Identity Concept

The existence of national symbols plays a crucial role in reflecting the identity of a nation. The national anthem is one of the national symbol categories that are commonly used by every nation in this world. The combination of syntactic (musical) and semantic (lyrical) structure make it unique from any other national symbols. Despite of tangibility of other national symbols, the national anthem is intangible, and the lack of transient makes it stronger towards the emotional attachment. Negaraku also faces the same problem as there is a lack of understanding regarding the significance of the national anthem as a symbol of national identity. The continuous issues of contempt regarding Negaraku from 1957 until 2022 show the lack of understanding of the anthem itself as a symbol of national identity. Therefore, this paper aims to emphasize the significance of Negaraku as a symbol of national identity as a foundation of knowledge for fellow citizens about Malaysia. An integrative literature review is used to analyze the significance of Negaraku towards national identity discussion. The analysis will review various sources of relevant information from international and local references which cover books, journals, websites as well as newspaper cutting. Based on the analysis drawn it proves that Negaraku textual structures indicate a direct interpretation of national identity through historical and cultural elements in political and economic perspectives. In conclusion, the conceptual discussion through Negaraku contextual analysis can widen the social sciences area through anthemology studies in Malaysia.

Tax Education and Tax Compliance: A Review of Literature

The study sought to carry out a critical review of literature on tax education and tax compliance. Based on the review of empirical literature, it was found that tax education has significant effect on tax compliance. It was consequently concluded that tax education is important in predicting the level of tax compliance. The study recommends that in order to improve the tax compliance level, governments should put in place and sustain public tax awareness programs as these will highlight the importance of tax revenue which is driven by tax compliance level. Tax authorities should support tax education as this has a favorable impact on taxpayer compliance and subsequently tax revenue. In order to improve on the general tax knowledge of citizens and subsequently increase tax compliance, revenue authorities and players in the educational sector should collaborate and come up with tax awareness activities. Tactical Security as a Component of National Security and Comprehensive Defense under the Conditions of Conventional and Hybrid Warfare

The article examines the essence and peculiarities of the concept of tactical security as a component of national security and comprehensive defense of Ukraine under the conditions of conventional and hybrid warfare, the definition of basic conditions, principles and methodological approaches to the implementation of tactical security measures, the use of appropriate methods and means aimed at increasing the effectiveness of protection population under the influence of conventional and hybrid threats, personal, group and collective security of Ukrainian citizens. The analysis of such components of national security as “state security”, “military security”, “public security” and “individual security” was carried out. It is proposed to introduce the concept of “tactical security” into scientific circulation, taking into account its characteristic features and levels of support. It is emphasized that in the conditions of both conventional and hybrid warfare, unfortunately, the most vulnerable is the problem of ensuring human security, which is the result of unpredictable consequences of both overt and covert military aggression, mainly in the territories that have found themselves and are in the conditions of hostilities and temporary occupation. Attention is focused on the fact that the specified problem is intensifying and requires the development of a complex of urgent, in particular, tactical measures for its regulation with the help of both existing resource capabilities and potential, including innovative technologies, methods and means, and by combining public awareness, state regulatory mechanisms, public-private partnership, civil-military interaction and public activity and participation at the expense of proactive public structures and knowledgeable citizens, including on the basis of international experience in countering hybrid threats. It was determined that tactical security is an integrated concept that is simultaneously derived from military security, public security and individual personal security and, accordingly, can have three main meaningful components: military (component of military security), civil (component of public security and personal security) , as well as integrated, which is reflected in the concept of civil-military interaction to ensure tactical security in the conditions of hybrid warfare. It is caused by the permanent potential and sudden action of various factors, threats and influences, especially those that are difficult to predict in the conditions of both conventional and hybrid war and is aimed at quick prevention and urgent response to these factors, which involves a complex of actions: personal, group, collective and the use of appropriate means of individual, group and collective protection, assistance and care aimed at eliminating life-threatening conditions and their consequences. It has been noted that an important component of planning measures for the implementation of the National Security Strategy of Ukraine is the spread of a public culture of security, a clear understanding of the perspective model of the organization and provision of tactical security, delineation of its levels and types for certain categories of the population, employees and proactive citizens. The implementation of tactical security measures will contribute to ensuring an adequate level of military, public and personal human security and increasing the protection of the population from emergency situations and other dangerous events, as well as dangers arising during or as a result of both armed and covert conflicts in conditions of both conventional and and hybrid warfare. It was concluded that tactical security is an integrated type of security that is in the sphere of relations between the civil and military sectors, which in the future can be transformed into the concept of civil-military cooperation in preventing and responding to various emergency situations and dangerous events, establishing effective cooperation between civil and military structures and during the performance of tasks related to ensuring national security and comprehensive defense under the conditions of conventional and hybrid warfare.

Sampling bias of invasive gibel carp and threatened crucian carp: Implications for conservation

Invasive alien species cause significant loss of biodiversity. The presence of invasive alien species is often left unnoticed until they become highly abundant, and early detection by citizens can serve as an early indicator of invasion. Here, we aimed to investigate the detection probability of invasive gibel carp (Carassius gibelio) and native critically endangered species, crucian carp (Carassius carassius), using typical methods employed by conservation agencies (fyke nets) and citizens (angling). Three sites with native crucian carp, nine sites with species syntopy and five sites with invasive gibel carp were investigated. The proportion of species caught by each method was compared using catch per unit effort (CPUE) as a measure of fish density and calculated as the number of fish of each species caught per hour. Species detectability by trapping and angling and the effects of waterbody type on the species catch success were analysed using a Beta regression model. Although the species are closely related and occupy similar positions in the ecosystem, the results showed a high affinity of invasive gibel carp for detection by angling (citizen method), while native crucian carp showed higher catch success in trapping (common professional monitoring method), to an extent that one species can be easily missed when sampled by only one of the methods. These results bring two important findings, namely the need to include citizen knowledge as an indicator of the progress of invasive gibel carp, and the potential danger of underestimating the invasion by conservationists and scientists. The results also suggest that the presence of native crucian carp in syntopy with invasive gibel carp may be overlooked by citizens. This study provides an example of detection bias that can hinder conservation efforts if neglected.

EVALUATION OF UNDERSTANDING AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE CONCEPT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The paper focuses on the development of the concept of education for sustainable development in the regions where the research is conducted; with the presentation of respondents' opinions for all three observed areas. The author's contribution to this work is reflected in pointing out the basic factors and essential problems that arise when reforming the educational system in order to apply the concept of education for sustainable development. The paper offers solutions to these problems, providing established guidelines on how to reform the education system. In this case, it is about the perception of students of three regional centers - Niš and Kosovska Mitrovica in Serbia, and East Sarajevo - Pala in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The results of our research show that a very small number of students are familiar with the emergence of the idea of OR, which confirms the fact that awareness and especially knowledge of citizens about OR, both at the level of the EU and especially at the level of Serbia, is far from desirable and necessary. The results of the research can be useful for decision makers who participate in the creation of the educational system; and they would be particularly significant for the reform of the education system in Serbia, where education for sustainable development is still viewed as a theoretical rather than a practical issue.

Long-COVID in Italy: a country perspective

Abstract Introduction In 2021 the Italian Ministry of Health, recognizing the need to improve knowledge and standardise the approach to Long-COVID nationwide, funded a project, led by the Italian National Institute of Health, with the following objectives: 1) to define the magnitude and impact of Long-COVID; 2) to identify and assess Long-COVID services nationwide; 3) to define Good Clinical Practices for the management of Long-COVID. Methods For objective 1, data of 3 Regions (Friuli Venezia Giulia, Tuscany and Apulia), covering a population of about 9 million people, were analysed, comparing service utilization in patients with previous COVID-19 over six months (from end of acute phase) and in controls matched for age, gender and comorbidities. For objective 2, a national survey was performed to map and characterize Long-COVID care services. For objective 3, an expert panel was appointed to produce good practice recommendations. Results In objective 1, COVID-19 was associated with higher rates of specialist visits (Incidence Rate Ratio, IRR: 1.88, 95% CI 1.65-2.13), hospitalizations (IRR 1.98, 95% CI 1.66-2.36), and instrumental diagnostic procedures (IRR 2.70, 95% CI 2.28-3.19) in the 6 months after acute infection. This association was stronger in individuals with infection causing hospital and/or ICU admission. For objective 2, 124 Long-COVID care centres were identified nationwide, with a high heterogeneity in services provision and organization. For objective 3, the panel issued National Good Practice Recommendations for Long-COVID, with 17 statements that provide key principles on services organization and patient management. Conclusions Results of this project can be used nationally to put in place appropriate measures targeting Long-COVID. Additional ongoing activities include the implementation of a surveillance system for Long-COVID and the development of activities aimed at increasing awareness and knowledge of citizens and health professionals about Long-COVID.

Implementing co-created citizen science in five environmental epidemiological studies in the CitieS-Health project

Background and aimScientists and scientific institutions are adopting more extensive participatory models, hoping to revisit the existing relationship between science and society. Though citizen science has become more common in environmental monitoring, it is seldom utilized in environmental epidemiology. In the CitieS-Health project, we co-created epidemiological studies with citizens in five European countries. The aim of this paper is to share our experiences and impart methodological insight into the application of co-created citizen science strategies in environmental epidemiology. MethodsWe applied the CitieS-Health framework, involving citizens in all the phases of the studies: identifying research questions, designing research protocols, collecting data, analysing data, interpreting data, formulating conclusions, authoring scientific articles and communicating the results to diverse audiences. These epidemiological studies, conducted in specific areas in Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Spain, covered diverse local environmental issues and health effects ranging from air pollution and mental health to industrial pollution and kidney disease. ResultsTogether with citizens, we successfully conducted environmental epidemiological studies that generated new scientific knowledge reflecting the concerns and knowledge of citizens. Citizens contributed in all the research activities, including activities beyond formulating the research questions, though the researchers initiated several design discussions and conducted time-consuming and complex tasks (e.g. data analysis, measurement of specific exposures and health outcomes). The challenges we encountered were engaging effectively with citizens throughout the study, harmonizing citizens' knowledge and values with the academics' expertise, managing civic expectations, making complex concepts understandable to citizens and representativeness of participating citizens. The co-created studies were able to empower citizens to address local health concerns by sharing and using scientific knowledge generated from studies. ConclusionsIntegration of co-created citizen science in environmental epidemiology is feasible and has the potential to improve the quality of research whilst promoting civic trust in research and results.

Why they do not care? Exploring young Indonesians' low participation in proenvironmental activities

PurposeYouths are known as a challenging group to be engaged in environmental programs due to their fickle characteristic. This study would like to offer Global South and developing countries' perspectives by using Indonesia as a case study. This study gives a lesson about the top-down approach in Indonesia's proenvironmental program and its trajectories toward youth participation.Design/methodology/approachUsing a case study approach, this article tries to deeply understand the issues happening in Indonesia, particularly among the young people living in several cities in Indonesia. The author was helped by the first participant, a student with experience with air pollution campaigns. Using snowball approach, the authors was helped by the first participant to contact with her friends from different cities to join as the participant in this research. To obtain their dynamic perspectives, the researcher conducted three focus group discussions via Zoom, each with a duration of 1.5–2 h. The researcher asked for their written permission to be participants through WhatsApp text and then verbally via Zoom video call. This research was done during the lockdown status of COVID-19 pandemic; thus, it was advised to do every research activity online. Based on their experience, the participants were divided into three groups: volunteers, influencers and university students aged 18–21. These Focus Group Discussion (FGD) results were transcribed and coded into behavior, peer support and knowledge by the author.FindingsThis study found that youths in Indonesia are concerned about the community's perspective on the environment; thus, their behavior will mirror others as part of a collectivist society. Parents, friends and the community are their role models when practicing proenvironmental behavior. Next, environmental education should be embedded in school curricula and religious centers. In addition, they should apply an open and democratic approach to reach youths' participation effectively. Programs and curricula with a top-down approach should be avoided to maintain sustainable actions. Last, there is an urgent need to develop citizens' literacy about environmental issues because it will highly influence young generations.Research limitations/implicationsThere should be more discussion on developing environmental knowledge for citizens at large. First, the next research should focus on the curricula development in formal and nonformal organisations, focusing on youths' voices during the process. In a proenvironmental program, honoring and prioritizing youth voices is central to youth work. Second, there should be further research on using a democratic approach for building conversation and discussion on environmental issues rather than a top-down approach. Further, researchers must focus on Indonesians' literacy in general, especially older and mature citizens, since their perspective will affect youths' behavior in the long term. These positive attitudes cannot be perceived and sustained if the community comments negatively toward proenvironmental behavior. Last, there is a lack of exploration to the influencers group to show their differences with other groups. Other researchers could further explore this in the future.Practical implicationsMultiple approaches must be used continuously to ask and seek youths' opinions, listen to what youths want and then prioritize them in the program. Rather than using programmatic design and delivery to shape social attitudes and behavior, campaigners should discuss with youths and influencers on creating their campaigns rather than maintain the program's sustainability. Environmental campaign messages should integrate with creative storytelling to build engagement with young people. By implementing this, youths could share their expressions using photography, narration, music, etc.Originality/valueIndonesia becomes a significant case study for this research due to its political and cultural system. Indonesia is known as a paternalistic and corporatist country where the practice of citizenship is challenged by the issue of power dynamics and imbalance. Therefore, a top-down communication is a common practice to create a quick-fix solution to foster productivity. Further, Indonesia has an environmental problem which made it vital for climate study. Globally, Indonesia ranks third in greenhouse gas emission after China and India. Recently, its capital city, Jakarta, is ranked as the worst-polluted city in the world.

Edukasi Pengelolaan Obat Melalui Dagusibu di Padukuhan Ngentak, Sumberagung, Jetis, Bantul, Yogyakarta

People are increasingly using various drugs for health purposes, influenced by factors like disease prevalence, expanded medication options, and improved access through national health insurance. These developments have both positive and negative effects. On the positive side, more people are taking better care of their health by seeking medical attention. However, the negative consequence of increased drug use includes potential errors in usage and disposal due to insufficient public education. These errors can harm individuals and the environment. Community service in Padukuhan Ngentak, Sumberagung, Jetis, Bantul, Yogyakarta, focuses on educating residents about Dagusibu (Get-Use-Save-Dispose). It employs education, counseling, discussions, and material reviews. The goal is to enhance public knowledge of Dagusibu to ensure proper medication acquisition, usage, and storage, preventing environmental harm from improper drug waste disposal. The process involves three phases: pretest, lecture-based information delivery, and postest evaluation. Community service activities can run smoothly and the community follows enthusiastically. The number of residents who participated in this activity was 33 people. Based on the assessment of the level of pretest and postest knowledge using questionnaires, it showed an increase in the good category by 78.79%. These results show an increase in citizen knowledge and this is expected to have an impact on public health.

Climate change and its impact on the population of Northern Lima

Introduction: The impact caused by climate change at present presents a high risk in the health field with consequences in the social and environmental fields. For example, there has been an increase in illnesses and social concern due to the lack of information among citizens. Aim: This study seeks to explain why climate change is having an impact on the population of Puente Piedra. Methods: The research is explanatory and quantitative. For this reason, a survey was used to find out how informed citizens are about this issue and thus be able to describe the impact on health and recognize the effects on the social and environmental surroundings. Results: The survey showed the lack of knowledge of citizens on the subject, concern about the increase in temperatures and lack of awareness to take action and address this problem. Conclusions: It is suggested to carry out more studies taking the other cones of the capital as references to obtain better information at regional level.

Capturing Emerging Experiential Knowledge for Vaccination Guidelines Through Natural Language Processing: Proof-of-Concept Study.

Experience-based knowledge and value considerations of health professionals, citizens, and patients are essential to formulate public health and clinical guidelines that are relevant and applicable to medical practice. Conventional methods for incorporating such knowledge into guideline development often involve a limited number of representatives and are considered to be time-consuming. Including experiential knowledge can be crucial during rapid guidance production in response to a pandemic but it is difficult to accomplish. This proof-of-concept study explored the potential of artificial intelligence (AI)-based methods to capture experiential knowledge and value considerations from existing data channels to make these insights available for public health guideline development. We developed and examined AI-based methods in relation to the COVID-19 vaccination guideline development in the Netherlands. We analyzed Dutch messages shared between December 2020 and June 2021 on social media and on 2 databases from the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), where experiences and questions regarding COVID-19 vaccination are reported. First, natural language processing (NLP) filtering techniques and an initial supervised machine learning model were developed to identify this type of knowledge in a large data set. Subsequently, structural topic modeling was performed to discern thematic patterns related to experiences with COVID-19 vaccination. NLP methods proved to be able to identify and analyze experience-based knowledge and value considerations in large data sets. They provide insights into a variety of experiential knowledge that is difficult to obtain otherwise for rapid guideline development. Some topics addressed by citizens, patients, and professionals can serve as direct feedback to recommendations in the guideline. For example, a topic pointed out that although travel was not considered as a reason warranting prioritization for vaccination in the national vaccination campaign, there was a considerable need for vaccines for indispensable travel, such as cross-border informal caregiving, work or study, or accessing specialized care abroad. Another example is the ambiguity regarding the definition of medical risk groups prioritized for vaccination, with many citizens not meeting the formal priority criteria while being equally at risk. Such experiential knowledge may help the early identification of problems with the guideline's application and point to frequently occurring exceptions that might initiate a revision of the guideline text. This proof-of-concept study presents NLP methods as viable tools to access and use experience-based knowledge and value considerations, possibly contributing to robust, equitable, and applicable guidelines. They offer a way for guideline developers to gain insights into health professionals, citizens, and patients' experience-based knowledge, especially when conventional methods are difficult to implement. AI-based methods can thus broaden the evidence and knowledge base available for rapid guideline development and may therefore be considered as an important addition to the toolbox of pandemic preparedness.

Pengaruh Mesin Pencari Google sebagai Sumber Belajar terhadap Pengetahuan Kewarganegaraan Peserta Didik pada Mata Pelajaran PPKn

The purpose of this research is to see the relations between influence of the google search engine as a learning source on citizenship knowledge in Daarussalam Sindang Jaya Senior High School (SMA) in Tangerang Regency. The approach used in this study is correlational quantitative. The population in this study were class XI in the 2022/2023 academic year. In this study, the Simple Random Sampling technique was used as a technique to obtain research samples. After conducting the research, it was found that the Google Search Engine as a Learning Resource was in the sufficient or moderate category with details of the frequency of 74% which, if converted, were as many as 40 people out of 54 students. For Student Citizenship Knowledge (Variable Y) is in the sufficient or moderate category with a frequency of 70% with a total of 38 students out of 54 students. With the level of influence based on the results of the correlation analysis shows that the Fcount value = 22.879, while the significance level is 0.000 <0.05. Thus it is concluded that the regression model can predict the independent variable (X). For this reason, it is known that there is the influence of the Google search engine which is used as a source of learning about citizenship knowledge. From the results of testing using the Simple Linear Regression technique, it is known that the correlation value or relationship (R) is 0.553, and the coefficient of determination (R Square) is 0.306 which means that the effect on variable X on variable Y is 30.6%.

Dancing with decolonial praxis: LBQ women and non-binary people’s subcultures in Lusaka, Zambia

ABSTRACT This article explores the subcultures and experiences of LBQ (lesbian, bisexual, and queer) women and non-binary individuals in Lusaka, Zambia, against the backdrop of draconian anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and rising homophobia in Africa. Drawing upon decolonial feminist methodology, the study investigates how these marginalised communities navigate hostile environments where their sexual orientation is criminalised and stigmatised by both the state and society. It begins by discussing the intersection of colonialism, religious influence, and cultural contexts in perpetuating discriminatory trends. It delves into the clandestine world of queer parties and activism in Lusaka, examining the everyday practices of decoloniality undertaken. The research methodology employed intellectual decolonisation to engage participants in the co-creation of knowledge and alternative narratives of Zambian citizenship and womanhood. By showcasing the resilience and resistance of LBQ women and non-binary individuals who form supportive networks, the article challenges the dominant construction of Zambia as a nation built on cisgender heteronormative and conservative religious values. It illuminates the vibrant subcultures and community formations that emerge despite legal barriers and patriarchal interpretations of traditional culture. The article contributes to a living archive of queer African experiences and expands the understanding of Zambian identities beyond conventional norms. It underscores the transformative potential of decolonial methodologies in challenging exclusionary notions of nationhood and fostering a more inclusive and diverse society.

Practices and acts of energy citizenship

ABSTRACT Both academic and political discussion on energy citizenship have, to a high degree, focused on participation of enthusiastic and knowledgeable citizens as a catalyst for energy system transformation. Likewise, discussion on energy democracy calls for increased and informed public participation in the energy system and its transition. However, to better understand the dynamics of citizen participation in the energy transition, we need to understand the non-constructive side of citizenship as well as the complexity of democratic processes. In this article, we build on research with housing cooperatives in Finland as emerging energy communities to discuss alternative and complementary forms of energy citizenship and their role in developing better energy democracy. We focus on acts of citizenship to illustrate these various forms of participation, which include active resistance towards policy agendas, such as sustainable energy initiatives, in the processes of collective decision making. Moreover, we employ a practice-theoretical approach to picture the interconnectedness of decision making and everyday life, having implications for performing energy citizenship. Our framework broadens the concept of energy citizenship and discusses the implications of these various forms of participation for energy democracy.

Mind the Gap: Uneven and Unequal Experiences of Youth Citizenship

AbstractWhile the field of youth citizenship has grown in recent years, many ‘gaps’ still exist. This commentary paper takes a critical look at three of these gaps in youth citizenship studies, namely (i) the Global North/Global South gap in understandings about youth citizenship, (ii) the citizenship status and empowerment gap, and (iii) the citizenship opportunity and participation gap. The paper argues that unless these gaps are attended to, we have a distortion in what we know about youth citizenship as the understandings and young people profiled (predominantly the Global North, elite, White and well resourced) represent only a small subsection of the whole, thus ignoring the experiences, knowledge, stories and voices of many diverse young citizens.

Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Miskin Ekstrem dalam Pengolahan Produk Bioteknologi Pangan Daun Kelor sebagai Upaya Penanganan Stunting

The purpose of this community service is to enhance the knowledge and skills of the extreme poverty citizens in the Rantau Sub-district of Aceh Tamiang Regency through the utilization of moringa leaves. As the local potential, moringa leaves can be processed into innovative biotechnological food products in order to address stunting. The method used for implementing this community service was society-participatory-based training. The instrument used for evaluation was questionnaires. The results of this community service show an excellent improvement in society’s knowledge (82.93%) regarding the utilization of moringa leaves as food to address stunting. In addition, the community members have acquired the skills to produce some biotechnological food products, such as moringa chocolate, moringa tea, moringa cookies, moringa sticks, moringa pudding, and moringa milk.

Wissensstand und Fehlvorstellungen zu Vorsorgedokumenten – Ergebnisse einer Bürgerbefragung

ZusammenfassungEinleitungVorsorgedokumente wie Patientenverfügung oder Vorsorgevollmacht sind bedeutsame Instrumente der Vorausplanung für Situationen, in denen ein Mensch nicht mehr für sich selbst entscheiden kann. Obwohl immer mehr Bürger:innen in Deutschland solche Dokumente erstellen, ist über ihr Wissen zu Zweck, Arten und Anwendung von Vorsorgedokumenten wenig bekannt. Nach über 10 Jahren seit der gesetzlichen Verankerung der Patientenverfügung soll diese Studie das Wissen von Bürger:innen erfassen und Wissenslücken detektieren.MethodenIn der Stadt und im Landkreis Würzburg wurde 2021 eine Querschnittsbefragung von volljährigen Bürger:innen u. a. zu Besitz, Umgang mit und Wissensstand zu Vorsorgedokumenten durchgeführt. Die Rekrutierung erfolgte über Werbeanzeigen und lokale Netzwerke.ErgebnisseVon den 282 Befragten (MAlter = 50 J., zu 2 Drittel weiblich) hatten 43,4 % nach Selbstangabe zumindest ein Vorsorgedokument verfasst. Im Wissenstest wurden im Mittel 22/34 Punkten erreicht. Fragen zur konkreten Anwendung von Vorsorgedokumenten anhand eines Fallbeispiels sowie zu Sterbehilfearten wurden häufig korrekt beantwortet, wohingegen beim Faktenwissen zu den einzelnen Dokumenttypen größere Wissensdefizite bestanden. Objektiv getestetes Wissen und Variablen zum subjektiven Wissensstand korrelieren positiv.DiskussionDie relativ hohe Quote an erstellten Dokumenten in dieser Stichprobe ist Ausdruck ihrer raschen Verbreitung in den letzten Jahren. Das Wissensniveau ist als niedrig einzuschätzen und zeigt Fehlvorstellungen zu Rechten und Pflichten der verfassenden Person sowie der beteiligten Akteure. Das gemessene Wissen der Bürger:innen steht in Diskrepanz zum häufig geäußerten Wunsch, durch informiertes Erstellen von Vorsorgedokumenten ihre Selbstbestimmung zu wahren.
