Peatland water utilization innovation based on community development

Peatland topography situation leads to several impact in community’s daily life. Land utilities hold several roles to community living sources such farming, plantation, and spring quality of the land. In Riau Province, peatland utilities done in several way even though leads by plantation, mostly farming and fish cultivation also take part. But in every activity that done by the community, water has enormous role in the civilization development. Peatland water has several conditions that differentiate them with the water quality at other kind of land. It has color brown and low pH that cannot be consumed by the community around the land. In other way, community needs water for sanitation and living. This paper aims to identify the community development implementation based on local resources to address the water sanitation solution at peatland in Beringin Hamlet, Lubuk Muda Village, Riau Province. This study utilized participatory observation and in-depth interviews with the local community. This study found that peat water can be used to make clean water through filtering innovations and can trigger social systems in the community to be able to meet needs and support community welfare.

Utilization of Septic Tank Waste to Enhancement the Growth of Spinach in Various Media

Septic tank waste can be used as a new alternative to be used as fertilizer because human excrement contains the availability of nutrients needed by plants. The research aimed to know the effect of liquid organic fertilizers dose, and plant media type of both to increase the growth and the production of plant spinach. The experimental design used was Block Randomized Design factorial with 9 treatments and 3 replicates. The first factor consists of 3 doses of fermented septic tank waste of human feces. Namely doses of 0 mL/plant (K1), 0,4 mL/plant (K2), 0,6 mL/plant (K3). The second factor is the planting medium consisting of 3 kinds of land or control (M0), land + husk charcoal (M1), land + Manure (M2). The observed variables include the number of leaves, plant height, root length, fresh weight of plant, root fresh weight, dry weight, root dry weight of the plant. The results showed that the fermented septic tank waste 0,6 mL (K3) influential real against the number of leaves. Granting planting media differ very markedly against all variable observations i.e. high number of plants, leaves, root length, fresh weight of plant, root fresh weight, dry weight, root dry weight of the plant. All variables are not found the existence of an interaction between fermented septic tank waste with the media.

Potensi Desa Giricahyo, Gunung Kidul dengan Pengenalan Budidaya Jahe Merah dan Pembelajaran TOGA (Tanaman Obat Keluarga)

Gunung Kidul is one of the district that was located in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Gunung kidul is located on mountains that has a specific characteristics of land. Which is a less fertile compared to others due to the lime contents. This kind of land is perfect for our project, red ginger. It doesn’t need to be watered much, and easy to cultivate. The other thing is how red ginger is also considered as one of family medicine group called as TOGA in Bahasa. Therefore, besides talking about red ginger, we also give information about several other plants that is considered as TOGA that is beneficial for health. Literature study method and secondary data were used in order to compile our findings. Through the outputs we created, we hope that these outputs will help the people around Gunung Kidul in creating a new living that suits the district’s condition.

Vegetation Dynamics and Food Security against the Background of Ecological Restoration in Hubei Province, China.

A series of ecological restoration projects have been proposed to solve ecological problems resulting from human activities. The project of returning farmlands to forests, initiated in 1999, was the most widely implemented ecological restoration project in China. Large amounts of cropland with steep slopes have been converted to forests or grasslands to promote vegetation restoration, reduce soil erosion, and control nonpoint source pollution. Therefore, identifying the dynamics of vegetation and food security is crucial for further decision making. Based on the mean normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and grain yield data, this study explored the vegetation dynamics and food security of Hubei Province against the background of ecological restoration. The results show that, on a whole, the NDVI significantly increased from 2000 to 2018. The spatial agglomeration of the NDVI decreased between 2000 and 2008 and then increased from 2009 onwards. High-high NDVI agglomerations were more concentrated in mountainous areas. Food security was not threatened, and the grain yield in Hubei Province and most of the cities exhibited significant upward trends, as a whole. The change trend of the grain yield was not stable during the period from 2000 to 2018. The grain yield for Hubei Province and almost all of the cities decreased during the first 5 to 11 years, probably due to the sharp decrease in the sloping cropland areas against the background of ecological restoration. Grain yield was more sensitive and had a longer downward trend in regions with steeper slopes. Increasing trends in grain yield were detected during the last 6 to 10 years for most of the cities, and this can mainly be attributed to the newly added croplands that were created from land with other kinds of land uses, the increase in grain productivity, and strict cropland protection policies. The project of returning farmlands to forests is suggested as a long-term policy from the perspective of ecological restoration, and effective measures should also be continuously taken to maintain grain production and food security.

The Life of the People of Kurinji land as shown in the Novel ‘Kurinjitthen’

The world in which human beings live is made up of five kinds of lands. Tholkappiyar would divide the lands into Kurinji, Mullai, Marutham, Neithal, and Palai. Tolkappiyar has divided the lands into Muthal Porul (Primary Object), Uripporul (The Theme), and Karupporul (The Epithet). Whatever the subject matter of the literature of this period, it is based on these five kinds of lands. Human society is made up of different ethnic groups. Among them is the novel 'Kurinjitthen' which talks about the Badagas tribe. Kurinji land is a hilly and hills surrounded place. The novel 'Kurinjitthen' depicts the life of the Badagas living in the Nilgiri hills. Through the novel 'Kurinchithen', the novel explores all aspects of the life of the Badagas, such as Hethai, the revered deity worshipped by the Badugas, the rules followed by them to protect the fire, the form of light, the methods of performing the 'Hone (Bamboo Vessel to collect milk)' ritual, and the condition of the women of the Badagas tribe.

“Patheetu”, the Distributive Character of Ethnic Societies

The people who lived in the five types of land divisions found in ancient Tamil Nadu had a wide variety of customs and cultures. The primordial man who lived in harmony with nature suffered many losses due to the nature that surrounded him. He began to live as a group to protect himself from the loss he had suffered. This collective way of life is called ethnic life. In all the five kinds of lands in ancient Tamil Nadu, the people lived this collective life, the ethnic life. The people who lived in all five types of lands had cultures according to the richness of the land in which they lived. Food was the basic necessity of the people who lived as an ethnic group. The distribution of food and food-based products was the primary activity. They divided food and food-related products. It is examined in the three spheres of the distribution of cattle lifted from enemies, the distribution of hunted material, and the distribution of gifts, and it expressed the quality of 'eating in the public' in the ethnic community.

Eco-Friendly Virtue of Kurinjith Thinai as shown in Kuruntthokai

This article deals with the study of environmental ethics on the basis of the principle of ecology, which deals with the higher ideas expressed in the Kurinjith Thinai songs of the Sangam literature. One of the Sangam pieces of literature, the Kuruntthokai, contains a plethora of elements of ecological theory. Ecology is a field that deals with the natural environment and artificial environment around us. The main objective of this department is to explain the relationship between living and non-living factors and to prevent the destruction of the living environment by avoiding artificial life and taking up natural life. The Kuruntthokai explains the life of the people living in the five kinds of lands. Thus, the purpose of this article is to bring out ideas about the ecological ethics found in the hilly and mountainous Kurinjith Thinai.

Kurinjippaatuu From an Aesthetic Point of View

The Sangam literature has divided human life into Agam and Puram. Agam's life is described by Agam songs and their heroic life by Puram songs. The people of the Sangam age organized their lives with land first. In the nature of the five kinds of lands, the people lived on the basis of themes such as their village, deity, occupation, entertainment, etc. The Agam books have told us about love, illicit marriage, virtuous marriage, etc. Sangam literature is a rich repository of life ideas. These have made the life, desires, and feelings of the people of the Sangam age a perfect poem. In the Agam songs of the Sangam literature, there are innumerable moral concepts such as love, domesticity, chastity, etc., which stand as a moral touch to the woman towards her friend, her friend towards the nurse, the nurse towards the mother, and the mother towards the father, as well as to the brothers. When approached from an aesthetic point of view, they are enjoyable. Thus, the purpose of this article is to examine the aesthetic aspects of Kurinjippaattu.

Land Resources in Patthuppaattu Principles of Life

Literature is powerful. Literature has the power to change the history of the world. Literature is the indestructible wealth of the people of the Sangam age. The Sangam literature is divided into two parts, Akatthinai and Puratthinai. The principle of thinai belongs only to Tamils. There is no principle of Thinai in any language of the world's languages. The word ‘Thinai’ should be divided into Thin +ai. The word 'thin' means moral strength means and 'i' denotes having it. All five kinds of land were stepping stones to human progress. The bodies and minds of the early men were firmly established. Little by little, they learned many professions and progressed. Although social life and the economy have improved in today's time, the study of land resources in the ten principles of life is of special importance. This study also reveals how in the Sangam literature, both men and women, worked and lived happily through five kinds of lands. Agriculture was done well in the lands. At that time, they also knew the techniques for protecting crops from wild animals. The main reason why the people of the Sangam age live with morality is the spirit of God. They celebrated many festivals during that period. The unity of the people also improved. The purpose of this study is to know the significance of Sangam literature from the smallest to the greatest in today's society.

An Ontology-Based Information Extraction System for Residential Land-Use Suitability Analysis

We propose an Ontology-Based Information Extraction (OBIE) system to automate the extraction of the criteria and values applied in Land-Use Suitability Analysis (LUSA) from bylaw and regulation documents related to the geographic area of interest. The results obtained by our proposed LUSA OBIE system (land-use suitability criteria and their values) are presented as an ontology populated with instances of the extracted criteria and property values. This latter output ontology is incorporated into a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) model applied for constructing suitability maps for different kinds of land uses. The resulting maps may be the final desired product or can be incorporated into the cellular automata urban modeling and simulation for predicting future urban growth. A case study has been conducted where the output from LUSA OBIE is applied to help produce a suitability map for the City of Regina, Saskatchewan, to assist in the identification of suitable areas for residential development. A set of Saskatchewan bylaw and regulation documents were downloaded and input to the LUSA OBIE system. We accessed the extracted information using both the populated LUSA ontology and the set of annotated documents. In this regard, the LUSA OBIE system was effective in producing a final suitability map.

Assessment of Spatial Temporal Changes of Ecological Environment Quality: A Case Study in Huaibei City, China

Under the short-term economic development goal, the excessive exploitation of natural resources and the destruction of the ecological environment make the ecological environment of Huaibei cities increasingly fragile. This study constructed the Remote Sensing Ecological Index (RSEI) to evaluate the ecological environment change trend and its driving factors in Huaibei City from 2000 to 2020. The barycenter migration model was used to determine the RSEI spatial change trend, and the geographic detector was used to analyze the influencing factors of the RSEI value change. The results showed that: (1) the average RSEI value of Huaibei City generally fluctuates within the range of good and excellent grades. (2) The migration direction of the barycenter of RSEI is similar when the level of RSEI improves or decreases from 2000 to 2020, and the barycenter migration is most severe from 2005 to 2015. (3) The driving factors of RSEI change were population density (0.47) > land use (0.24) > slope (0.14) > precipitation (0.08) > temperature (0.04) > altitude (0.03). All the factors had interaction effects on the RSEI, mainly with nonlinear enhancement. (4) From 2000 to 2010, urban construction encroached on all kinds of land, which was the direct reason for the decline in ecological environment quality. From 2010 to 2020, the surge of water and meadow areas improved the ecological environment quality of Huaibei city. Therefore, reducing the expansion of artificial land, returning farmland to forests and meadows, wetland park construction, and other ecological protection measures are the keys to ensuring the sustainable development of regional social and economic development. This study can provide a reference and scientific basis for sustainable development strategy and ecological protection planning to improve the ecological environment quality of Huaibei City.

Factors That Attract the Population: Empirical Research by Multiple Regression Analysis Using Data by Prefecture in Japan

The development of the local economy and correcting the concentration in the capital city have long been the target for many countries. Furthermore, in the wake of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the momentum for rural migration has been increasing to prevent the risk of infection with the help of the rise of remote work. However, there is not enough debate about what kind of land will attract the population. Therefore, in this paper, we performed correlation and multiple regression analyses, with the inflow rate and the net inflow rate of the population as the dependent variables, using the average values of government statistics for each prefecture in 2010 and 2017. As a result of the analyses, in addition to economic factor variables, variables of climatic, amenity, and human factors correlated with the inflow rate, and it was shown that the model had the greatest explanatory power when multiple factors had been used in addition to specific factors. It indicated that local prefectures were required to take regional promotion measures focusing not only on economic factors but also on multifaceted factors to attract the outside population. In addition, when the dependent variable was replaced with the 2020 population inflow rate, the model in which human factors were used as the independent variable showed the largest improvement in explanatory power. Therefore, it was shown that human factors have become more important in attracting people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Identifying the reuse patterns of coal mining subsidence areas: A case‐study of Jixi City (China)

AbstractAbandoned coal mine subsidence areas not only result in land resources wastage and ecological destruction but also disturb the order of space within the urban and rural areas, making it crucial to rehabilitate them. How to identify the best procedures for subsidence areas, which are scattered on a variety of lands rather than a single location? Our research proposes a new 'evaluation + clustering' methodology and took 95 subsidence areas in Jixi as an example. LANDSAT‐8 images and modified normalized difference water index (MNDWI) were used to identify the status of collapsed area water bodies. Reuse suitability evaluations were done in terms of ecological protection, urban construction, and agricultural production using a multi‐criteria evaluation (MCE) based on a geographic information system (GIS). Then k‐means clustering was used to classify the areas to identify their reuse pattern and model. The results show that the degree of subsidence is low with 78.25% of land scarcely wet. The suitability assessment values for rehabilitation as construction and agriculture are high, indicating the lands are suitable for reuse. 619.12 hm2 of subsidence areas located in a convenient place and surrounded by different kinds of lands are suitable for multiple uses, 1000.48 hm2 of those are appropriate for ecological reuse, namely water, land or forestry, their subsidence being severe and most of them located on mountains or near to the edge of built‐up areas. An estimated 630.18 hm2 located near the main road and inside the planning land boundary are suitable for parks, industrial land, and other construction lands. A further 11,176.94 hm2 could be used for farmland and other agricultural lands.

Research and application of the mathematical model for extreme weather event in coastal urban areas

Extreme weather event simulation in coastal urban areas is more complex and difficult due to their special geography and climate characteristics, different kinds of land uses, close-packed buildings, and large amounts of flood control works and drainage systems. Urban Flood Simulation Model (UFSM) was integrated in this study to simulate the extreme weather events in the Pudong flood protection area (Shanghai, China). The model is established based on two-dimensional unsteady flow theory and nonstructural and irregular mesh technique. A method based on one-dimensional unsteady flow theory is proposed to deal with small-scale river and road. The calculation of the pumping stations, the water gates is indicated based on the real scheduling discipline. The extreme weather event scenarios (typhoon+rainstorm+ astronomical high tide + upstream flood) are simulated. The results show that the flood risk is higher in the coastal area and the upstream of the Huangpu Rive, and UFSM is a suitable method for simulating the flood inundation of coastal urban areas.

The abundance of game animals that are in a state of natural freedom, as a natural resource of national importance, is the result of a number of different factors, which are divided into three main groups according to their origin and functional role. The feeding potential and the quality of protective features of habitats of wild animals are the main biotic factors determining the category of value of a particular kind of land, which should theoretically form the quantitative state and structure of aboriginal populations of animals and birds. Although direct dependence between the quality of hunting grounds and the abundance of faunal components of the biocoenosis was not revealed. A comparative classification of hunting grounds was carried out in accordance with the class of bonitet within the natural zones. It is determined that the low actual level of efficiency of national hunting in the research area does not correspond to the high average indicators of value categories (creditworthiness) of lands. At the same time, a significant additional role of the professional hunting approach to hunting management is observed. The highest profitability of hunting is where the highest level of intensity and quality of hunting management measures, in particular protection and biotechnical measures, are applied. Own observations confirmed by the analysis of state statistical reporting indicate the potential for biotechnological improvement of the value category of lands. In farms where wildlife management measures are regularly performed, the abundance of predators is controlled, measures against illegal hunting are carried out, as well as other anthropogenic factors are controlled, in particular where chemicals and environmental management of agriculture and forestry are observed, additional feeding sources for game animals is provided. In such farms, hunting performance indicators (achieving optimal numbers and the degree of use of hunting resources) are higher than in other farms with a similar natural potential. It has been established that, in addition to the quality of land, the following influencing factors have a limiting effect on the quantitative and qualitative state of populations of the main game species: anthropogenic factors such as illegal hunting and low professional level of hunting; biotic factors such as predation by wolves. The effect of other factors having a negative impact is not limiting.

Kemiskinan dan Kesenjangan Ekonomi Rumahtangga Transmigran di Propinsi Sumatera Selatan

This research objective is to know about the income contribution, risk level of getting drop under poverty line, gap and the tolerance of household income from being poor under poverty line. The research are that is selected purposively in general pattern of transmigration program in wet land and dry land. Beside, it is also classified into the settlement age that is 1-4 years (training term) 5-7 years (transition term) and 8 years or more (independent). The sample is taken randomly in each rural. The method of analysis using the statistical and mathematical Mesurement to answer the research objective. The result of this research showed that in the beginning term is that the biggest contribution comes from the transmigrans who work in the off farm in every kind of land. The comparison of the transmigran's househould income contribution to the age of settlement is that the more the age of settlement is that the more the age of sttlement, the more proportion of farm effor of crop. Previously, there are some household that are categorized into the poor, whether there are not poor but it is possible for them to be poor again. Comparing to the age of settlement if is has more there will be the more the survived households and the less the poor household. The rapidity of increasing the transmigran's household income is different each other, there are some that is fast, low and satable to get out from the poverty. Community Land Trusts (CLTs) as a strategy to promote affordable housing in California

In an effort to combat systemic racism in land use planning and inequitable real estate investment activities that have oppressed the working class, low-income communities are finding creative ways to build community wealth. As exorbitant rents push families out of their homes and neighborhoods, grassroots groups and communities of color are pursuing Community Land Trusts (CLTs) to promote community stewardship of the land and to create access to permanently affordable housing. While a majority of CLTs focus on fostering permanently affordable housing, there is great flexibility in the kinds of land uses that CLTs can pursue, including for instance, agricultural projects. In California, grassroots organizations such as THRIVE Santa Ana and the Oakland Community Land Trust (OakCLT) are putting the CLT model into practice to respond to their communities’ needs and pave the way for disinvested communities to secure housing access.

Soil health and land degradation related problems and remedial measures with special reference to central and peninsular India

Land degradation in black soil regions of India (occurring between 8045’ and 2600’ N latitude and 6600’ and 83045’ E longitude spread over an area of 76.4m ha constituting almost 22.2 per cent of total geographical area of India) is the continuous process for some inherent soil physicochemical and hydrological properties coupled with poor management. The soils in these regions occur on flat to varying degree of undulating topography and therefore water erosion accompanied by severe losses of essential plant nutrients are the serious problems even on flat topography. This emphasizes the need for effective conservation of land and water resources and their efficient utilization for enhancing crop productivity on sustainable basis. Appropriate cost effective conservation measures for land and water have been found effective in improving the land and water resources and thereby productivity of crops and live-stocks. Integrated watershed management is now considered as the best approach for sustainable protection, preservation and efficient utilization of all the natural resources particularly land and water and socio-economic resources. Present paper reviews land degradation status and various kinds of land uses and presents the technological options for managing them so that productivity of arable crops may be improved on sustainable basis.

Sedimentation Characteristics and Pollutant Content Distribution of Storm Drainage Sediments

To determine the characteristics of precipitation and pollutant content in storm drainage sediments, samples of sediment from building areas (including residential areas), roads, and green spaces in Wuhan were collected and analyzed. The settling velocity results show that particles with high settling velocity weight occupied a larger proportion in the sediment; the settling velocity distribution of sediments in building areas and roads was more stable than that in green spaces; and the proportion of particles with settling velocity over 3.00 cm·s-1 in building areas, roads, and green spaces decreased in turn. The particle size distribution indicated sediment size had a wide variation range, with most particles concentrated in the range 13-628 μm, and that the particle size distribution in sediment from the same land type could differ greatly. Each sample was divided into seven groups according to settling velocity. The contents of chemical oxygen demand (COD), total nitrogen (TN), and total phosphorus (TP) were tested. The results indicate that pollutant contents in groups containing particles with settling velocity over 3.00 cm·s-1 or below 0.025 cm·s-1 were lower than those in other groups. Most pollutants were concentrated in particles with high settling velocity.The COD concentration declined in green spaces, roads, and building areas, in turn, for most cases. The nitrogen content in the drainage sediment of roads was lower than those in the two other kinds of land, whereas the phosphorus content in the drainage sediment of building areas was higher than those in the two other kinds of land. In the storm drainage sediment, the ratio of COD:TN was between (51-89):1 and that of COD:TP was between (102-186):1.

Landslide Hazard Analysis In Tuban Regency Using Multilevel Satellite Imagery Processing For Landslide Potential Mapping

Landslide is a kind of land or rock movement, come from a place that has a higher slope as a consequence of disturbed land stability. The landslide can cause huge damage around us, but there are so many ways that can decrease landslide risk assessment, for example, to keep away from landslide area, spread a warning around the people, and apply safety standard when entering a landslide area. This research has purpose to know landslide potential that influences in hazard mitigation strategy in Tuban Regency. This research result is landslide potential map based on the land characteristic, rainfall, slope, and land use. That four parameters pass by an analysis processing an will be sure by remote sensing data that is medium resolution satellite imagery of Landsat 8, high-resolution satellite imagery of SPOT, and very high-resolution satellite imagery of Quickbird. This research result is a map of landslide susceptibility that places Tuban Regency in 5 classifications of it, where Tuban Regency domination in the low stage of susceptibility with 106.618 ha, and for very high of susceptibility with 175.5 ha of areas.
