Needs Analysis to Develop Learning Media Based on Scientific Literacy

Encouraging students to become more proficient in scientific literacy is crucial. Biology is the study of living things and the phenomena of life in their surroundings. A person who literates science is prepared to engage in meaningful discussions about science and technology, which require competence to explain phenomena scientifically, to evaluate and design scientific research, and to interpret data and evidence scientifically. This research uses quantitative approaches with correlational type. The samples in this research were about 105 junior high school students in Bogor, Indonesia. The purpose of this study to analyzing the needs in developing science literacy-based learning media. The result show that scientific literacy score is 51 categorized in medium category. The results suggest a need for science literacy-based educational media to enhance students' science literacy. Hence, the development of instructional media grounded in scientific literacy is essential to enhance students' ability to engage with and comprehend complex scientific concepts.

Integrating Qur’an and Integer Learning in Developing Electronic Students’ Worksheet through Problem-Based Learning

Despite the growing interest in contextualizing mathematics education, research integrating Qur’an contexts into mathematics instruction remains limited. Prior studies have largely concentrated on conventional teaching methods, Qur’an-centered instruction, or Problem-based Learning (PBL) as independent approaches. This study addresses a critical gap by integrating Qur’an contexts into integer learning, supported by problem-based learning and facilitated through a technology-enhanced Electronic Student Worksheet (E-SW). The primary objective of this study is to design and assess the reliability and applicability of a Quran-based E-SW using the PBL framework for teaching integers to 7th-grade junior high school students. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) methodology with the ADDIE development model—comprising analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation phases—this research utilizes expert validation sheets and student practicality questionnaires as instruments. The study sample consists of 7th-grade students from SMP IT LHI Yogyakarta, with class 7B selected through purposive sampling. Validation results indicate that the E-SW meets established validity criteria, with scores from subject matter and media experts reaching 99 and 91, respectively, both classified as "Good." Practicality testing revealed positive student responses, yielding a practicality score of 61, categorized as "Practical." Furthermore, a paired sample t-test demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in student performance between pretest and posttest results, with a significance (2-tailed) value below 0.05 and an average N-Gain score of 0.4391, which is classified as moderate. These findings suggest that the Quran-based E-SW, structured around the PBL model, effectively enhances students' problem-solving abilities and is suitable for educational use.

Manipulative interactive didactics with puzzles: An effective solution for overcoming junior high school students' learning obstacles to quadrilateral materials

The study of learning obstacles is essential to develop students' competencies and improve the quality of learning that is responsive, inclusive, and relevant in the 21st century. The purpose of this study is to identify learning obstacles related to misconceptions regarding quadrilateral material and students' mathematical creativity, and to find effective empirical didactic designs to overcome these learning obstacles. The research methodology used is didactic design research (DDR), which consists of four frameworks: Initial data collection, prospective analysis, metapedidactic analysis, and retrospective analysis. These stages are cyclical. The study involved 172 junior high school students and six model teachers. Data was collected using the quadrilateral writing creativity test, interviews, documents, and field notes. Data analysis was conducted simultaneously using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The study produced empirical didactic designs, namely manipulative interactive didactics with puzzles, which are equipped with a guide for teachers to manage learning. This empirical didactic design includes seven frameworks that have been shown to be effective in overcoming didactic and epistemological barriers—scaffolding, questioning skills, brainstorming, learning opportunities, conceptual representation of mathematical creativity, misconceptions, and concept representation. Teachers can implement or adapt this empirical instructional design for use in geometry subtopics or other mathematics materials. For instance, they can use it for subtopics such as flat shapes with the same area, spaces with the same volume, or spaces with the same surface area.

KONSELING REALITA BERBASIS NILAI-NILAI Q. S. AR RA’D: 11 UNTUK MENGURANGI PERILAKU BULLYING PADA SISWA SMP

Bullying is an act of using power to hurt a person or group of people verbally, physically or psychologically so that the victim feels depressed, traumatized and helpless. The aim of this research is to decrease the rate of decline in bullying behavior in junior high school students and turn their negative behavior into positive behavior according to the values of Q. S. Ar Ra'd verse 11 for bullying perpetrators. This research method uses experimental research in the form of Single Subject Research (SSR). The results of this research show a decrease in bullying scores from score of 108 to score of 45 with positive behavioral changes in accordance with the rules set out in the Al-Qur'an.

Penggunaan Konteks Budaya Ramayana Ballet Prambanan Untuk Soal Literasi Matematika Bagi Siswa SMP

The purpose of this research is to develop and classify mathematical literacy questions using the context of Ramayana Ballet Prambanan Ballet for junior high school students. The type of research used is design research. The data collection methods used were observation, test, and interview. The instrument validation process used by researchers is expert validation and the technique used to test data validity is triangulation technique. The data analysis process used was reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. The results obtained were from the context of the Ramayana Ballet Prambanan Ballet could be made eight questions in the domain of numbers, data and probability analysis, algebra, measurement, and geometry for cognitive levels (1) knowing with a counting indicator, (2) applying with interpreting, applying/executing indicators, and (3) reasoning with a making justification indicator.

Designing Picture Books on Endemic Animals Based on SDGs Values To Foster Global Citizenship Character

This study aims to design picture books on endemic animals based on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) values to foster global citizenship character among junior high school students. Conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Pangenan and Bandung Independent School, the research involved 120 seventh-grade students in the Civics Education subject. Using the Research and Development (R&D) methodology, the study followed a systematic process of designing, developing, and validating the educational materials to ensure alignment with SDG values, particularly those promoting environmental sustainability and global responsibility. The findings indicate that the picture books not only engaged students effectively but also facilitated a deeper understanding of global citizenship through relatable local contexts. Students demonstrated an increased awareness of biodiversity and the importance of conserving endemic species as part of their civic responsibilities. The study contributes to educational literature by highlighting the potential of SDG-based picture books as impactful tools for character education, aligning with both national and international educational goals. This research offers a model for integrating global issues into local curricula, promoting a more comprehensive approach to character development that aligns with global citizenship objectives. The outcomes suggest that such materials can be beneficial in other educational settings to cultivate an appreciation for environmental stewardship and global interconnectedness among young learners.

PENINGKATAN PERLINDUNGAN DATA PRIBADI DALAM TRANSAKSI ELEKTRONIK PADA SISWA SEKOLAH MENENGAH PERTAMA DI KOTA MATARAM

The Internet is a basic need for all groups in various aspects of life from an educational, social, and economic perspective. Teenagers, as internet users, are at risk of experiencing personal data leakage due to a lack of vigilance. This service activity aims to increase the awareness of junior high school students as millennial teenagers regarding protecting personal data in social media and electronic transactions. It is hoped that with this education, the level of misuse of personal data in Indonesia will decrease. The method used is the lecture method. Activities are carried out through three stages: planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting. The activity went well, and as a result of the evaluation, participants could sort out data that could be shared and should not be shared with other people, both from the Internet and directly. They knew how to protect personal data.

A Comparative Study of Frame Construction in Chinese and Western English News Headline - with the Murder Case of a Junior High School Student in Handan, Hebei as an Example

Based on framing theory and appraisal theory, this paper explores how headlines in English reports from both China and Western Countries shape audiences’ perceptions and opinions. It compares the differences in the frames of 44 reports on the murder case of a junior high school student in Handan City, Hebei Province at three levels: high, medium, and low. The high-level frame analysis includes news type, length, presentation, and source. Medium-level frame analysis centers on the use of different structures, including main events, previous events, history, results, impact, attribution, and evaluation. The low-level frame study analyzes categories and evaluative resources of the headlines. Significant differences are found between the reports by Chinese media and foreign media mainly in their presentation, sources, medium-level structures, and headline categories.

Social Media Use and Fear of Missing out: An Exploratory Cross-Sectional Study in Junior High Students from Western Mexico.

The increased use of social media in Mexico has given rise to the "fear of missing out" (FoMO) phenomenon, especially among adolescents. This study aimed to measure the extent of FoMO among junior high school students in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, Mexico, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, this study explored the association between FoMO levels and demographic characteristics, as well as the type and frequency of social media use. A cross-sectional survey was conducted from November 2021 to January 2022 in four junior high schools. A total of 1264 students (656 females and 608 males) aged 11-16 years completed the Fear of Missing Out Scale, adapted to the Mexican context. Data on demographics, social media usage, and school shifts were collected. Statistical analyses were performed using t-tests, ANOVA, and correlation coefficients. The mean FoMO score was 1.79 ± 0.64, with higher scores observed in females (p < 0.001) and students attending morning shifts (p = 0.001). Significant associations were found between higher FoMO scores and the use of social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest (p < 0.001 for each). The most frequently used social media platforms were WhatsApp (1093), TikTok (828), and Instagram (583). Participants who used social media all week exhibited significantly higher FoMO scores than those who used it only on weekends (p < 0.001). FoMO is a significant phenomenon among junior high school students in Guadalajara, Mexico, particularly among females and those who use multiple social media platforms. The findings suggest a need for interventions to manage social media use and mitigate FoMO-related negative health outcomes in this population.

Development of scaffolding-based science e-modules to improve junior high school students’ scientific reasoning

Scientific Reasoning is a high-level thinking ability to think scientifically, systematically, and logically in the scientific method process. The scientific reasoning of junior high school students is still low in Science learning. In fact, scientific reasoning is an essential component of the cognitive flow of 21st-century skills. This study aimed to describe the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of scaffolding-based Science e-module in improving the scientific reasoning of junior high school students. This study was a developmental study with the ADDIE model. The subjects were 35 7-E students in SMP Negeri 7 Jember with the implementation in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The data collection techniques used were observation, documentation, validation sheets, implementation observation sheets, tests (pretest and posttest), and questionnaires of student response. Based on the research results, the implementation of a scaffolding-based Science e-module obtained a validation value of 89.8%, which was included in the valid category and can be used in the learning process. The results of the practicality analysis obtained a value of 88%, which was included in the very practical category to be used in the learning process. The effectiveness was obtained from the results of the pretest and posttest with an N-Gain value of 0.73%, which was included in the high category, and the results of student response were 89.4%, which was included in the very good category and effective in improving scientific reasoning of the junior high school students.

Students’ Experience in Modular Learning and Motivation to Achieve Academically: The Mediating Effect of Pedagogical Content Knowledge of Teachers

This study investigated the mediating role of perceived pedagogical content knowledge of teachers on the relationship between students' experiences in modular learning and their motivation to succeed academically. The study was conducted using a quantitative study design with 300 junior and senior high school students selected using stratified sampling technique in the Island Garden City of Samal. Data was gathered using three sets of modified standardized survey questionnaires. Tests on the content validity and reliability of these instruments were conducted. The Mean, Pearson r Correlation Coefficient, and Path Analysis were used to analyze the data. The findings demonstrated high levels of motivation to achieve academically, very high level of pedagogical content knowledge, and high level of modular learning experience. The association between students' experience in modular learning and motivation to achieve academically, motivation to achieve academically and pedagogical content knowledge and students' experience in modular learning and pedagogical content knowledge were all statistically significant. Additionally, the current study demonstrated a partial mediation of pedagogical content knowledge on the relationship between students' experience in modular learning and motivation to achieve academically.

Are Peer-rejected Adolescents More Likely to Become Bullies or Victims? A Longitudinal Social Network Analysis.

Although many studies have explored the effects of peer rejection on bullying and victimization, the specific targets of bullying and victimization in adolescents after experiencing rejection have not been identified. This study adopts longitudinal social network analysis to examine whether the effects of peer rejection on bullying and victimization are only for peers in the rejecting relationship or involve other peers. This two-wave longitudinal study included 2,223 Chinese junior high school students. Students reported rejection, bullying, and victimization at the end of the first semester of eighth grade (Mage = 13.93 years, SD = 0.60, 48.6% girls) and the end of the second semester of eighth grade (Mage = 14.38 years, SD = 0.59, 49.0% girls). After fitting the data to stochastic actor-oriented models, the results revealed that rejected adolescents are more likely to be victimized by peers who reject them but not by others. Conversely, rejected adolescents tend to bully peers who do not reject them. These findings suggest that rejected adolescents simultaneously are at risk of both developing as bullies and being forced to become victims. They target different peers in each context, reflecting the complexity of bullying and victimization among adolescents after being rejected by peers.

After that, it was continued with a question and answer session from the participants, and the formation of agents of change among PGRI Rutah Junior High School students. After being agreed upon with the school leadership, on the appointed day, the team and students came to the PKM location. The activity was divided into 2 sessions, first, an introduction to violence, sexual violence, and the scope of sexual violence to PGRI Rutah Junior High School students. Second, a question and answer session as an interaction between participants and instructors. The activities carried out were very interesting for the students of SMP PGRI Rutah. The enthusiasm of these students was shown in the form of various questions about the material presented by the service team. Relationship between Logical Reasoning and Performance in Mathematics and Science among Junior High School Students

The study examined the relationship between logical reasoning abilities and performance in mathematics and science among Junior High School students in the Ga South Municipality. The research design employed was a descriptive survey. Through a Multi-stage sampling procedure, data was obtained from a sample size of 370 JHS two (2) students in the Ga South Municipality. Test of Logical Thinking (TOLT) was adapted to measure the students' logical reasoning abilities and adapted tests in mathematics and science were used to measure students' performance. Frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations were used to analyze data for the research questions, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation, multiple linear regression and independent samples t-test were used to test the hypotheses. Results revealed that JHS two (2) students in the Ga South Municipality were low in logical reasoning. A significant positive weak relationship between students' logical reasoning and performance in both mathematics and science was established. Also, combinatorial reasoning was the best predictor of performance in both mathematics and science. It was recommended that the school curriculum in mathematics and science at the JHS level should be deliberately designed to train students in logical reasoning.

Co-Existence Patterns of Social Norms and Positive Defending Intention Among Adolescents as School Bullying Bystanders.

School bullying occurs frequently in primary and secondary schools, which is a global problem and it often brings serious physical and mental harm to the victims. When school bullying occurs, there may be a large number of bystanders in addition to the bullies and victims. What actions bystanders take affects the progress of school bullying. Relevant studies indicate that social norms including how peers around them react (descriptive norms) and how important adults such as teachers and parents demand (injunctive norms) play important roles in bystanders' action-taking, but limited studies have considered individual differences. Therefore, this study used a person-centered approach to explore the co-existence patterns of social norms and bystanders' defending intention to further understand their relations. We surveyed 1,384 junior high school students in China by self-report questionnaires, and they were asked to assess their defending intention when witnessing school bullying events under different contexts of social norms. Through latent profiles analysis, five co-existing patterns were identified: no norms-no defending group (4.8%), parent norms-no defending group (3.6%), weak norms-low defending group (24.3%), teacher-peer norms-medium defending group (40.6%), teacher-peer norms-high defending group (26.7%). In four out of the five patterns, students' levels of defending intention were highly consistent with the levels of peer and teacher norms, but largely contradicted parent norms. This suggests that descriptive norms from peers and injunctive norms from teachers, other than those from parents are crucial for promoting bystanders' defending intention, which provides important enlightenment for school bullying prevention. These findings provide important enlightenment for the prevention and control of school bullying in the future.

Improving the Learning Outcomes of Class VIII Students Through the Implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) Model in Science Learning

This research aims to improve the learning outcomes of junior high school students in science learning.This research is a type of classroom action research carried out in one of the public junior high schools in the Madiun district. The study population was class VIII with class VIII E samples. The data analysis technique used was to compare learning outcomes in the pre-cycle to the next cycle. The results of the analysis showed that the project-based learning (PjBL) learning model was able to improve the cognitive learning outcomes of junior high school students. The success indicator of the study was seen in the improvement in cognitive learning outcomes of students who achieved a minimum completeness criteria (MCC) score of 75. While the tang performance indicator used in this study is the success rate of cognitive learning outcomes up to 75%, in the pre-cycle, as many as 71.43% of the total students have not reached the specified minimum completeness criteria (MCC). While the remaining 38.10% have reached minimum completeness criteria (MCC). The implementation of the project-based learning (PjBL) learning model shows an increase in student success in learning. In cycle I, the percentage of student success reached 61.9%. In the second cycle, the percentage of student success reached 76.1%, so there was an increase of 33.4%.

Establishment of Physical Strength Evaluation Findings on Slim School Age Children: Analysis of Fifth Grade Primary School Students

Hypotheses on physical strength and athletic ability in people with slim body types have yet to be clearly proven. Certainly, several studies have been reported, but none have gone beyond the realm of speculation. This is due to the fact that an amount of data needed to statistically ensure conclusions on the slim body type have not been established. In this study we carefully the examined physique, physical strength and athletic ability over time obtained in a large-scale study conducted over seven years (2013 to 2019) in the Kansai region of Japan, and obtained measurement results for fifth grade elementary school students and second year junior high school students. Specifically, we applied the wavelet interpolation model to the trends over time in mean values and standard deviations for height, physical strength, and athletic ability (grip strength, repeated side jumps, sit and reach, sit-ups, 50 m run, standing long jump, 20 m shuttle run, and softball throw) in fifth grade boys and girls. We then constructed span evaluation charts. The height, physical strength, and athletic ability of fifth grade boys and girls judged from an aging span evaluation chart for BMI devised by Fujii [1] was then applied to this evaluation chart. The result was that the evaluation of physical strength and athletic ability in slim fifth grade elementary school students derived in this study clearly indicated that these students somewhat below average in grip strength and softball throw, which has not been reported from previous estimates. We submit that a physical strength and athletic ability evaluation in fifth grade boys and girls in elementary school with a slim body type has been established in this study

An in depth review of body shaming phenomenon among adolescent: Trigger factors, psychological impact and prevention efforts.

Body shaming, a pervasive issue, has severe psychological and societal repercussions, particularly for early adolescents. This study addresses the gap in understanding body shaming in smaller urban settings such as Jember City, often overlooked in favour of larger metropolitan areas. The study aimed to investigate the psychological effects, trigger factors and potential preventive measures of body shaming among junior high school students in Jember City. The study was conducted in junior high schools in Jember City, East Java, Indonesia. An observational, cross-sectional design with both quantitative and qualitative approaches was used. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires and in-depth interviews. The quantitative analysis was performed using the Spearman's rank test. The study included 320 adolescents aged between 12 and 15 years. Of these, 6.3% were 12 years old, 31.2% were 13, 31.6% were 14, and 30.9% were 15. Additionally, 56.2% of the participants were female. The majority (95%) identified as Muslim, and 72.8% had parents with bachelor's degrees. Parental occupations ranged from private business to civil service. In terms of body mass index, 34.7% were classified as very thin, 18.1% as thin, 40.9% as normal, and 3.1% as fat or obese. Body shaming was widespread, with 73.1% criticized for their clothing, 59.9% for their speech, and 66.7% compared to others. The main sources of body shaming were family, peers, media, and personal insecurities. There was also a significant correlation between body shaming and stress (ρ = 0.404, p < 0.01). Body shaming affects mental health, particularly among adolescents. It stems from societal norms and media perpetuation. This study provides insights into body shaming in smaller urban settings, highlighting the need for targeted prevention efforts to mitigate its effects and promote healthier self-esteem and body image.

EDUTOURISM AS AN EFFORT TO STRENGTHEN KELAN VILLAGE RESILIENT AND PRO-ENVIRONMENTAL TOURISM VILLAGE

Kelan Tourism Village is located in Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali Province, and has the potential for marine tourism and culinary tourism by utilizing sea products in the form of seafood as the main menu. This tourism potential is currently underway, but economically it has not yet had a maximum impact, as a result of the existence of complementary products in the form of vegetables to complement the seafood menu which are still purchased from outside the Kelan Tourism Village, even though the plantation area is still available. Based on these problems, the solution provided is the application of the Biofloc Aquaponics Integrated Urban Farming Model, Drip Irrigation Vegetable Garden Tilapia which is packaged as edutourism, targeting elementary school students, middle school students, tourists/visitors, and the Kelan Tourism Village community. The implementation of the solution shows that there has been an increase in understanding, knowledge and skills of the target groups, namely elementary school students, junior high school students, tourists/visitors and the community regarding Integrated Urban Farming Aquaponics Biofloc, Tilapia Fish Garden Vegetable Drip Irrigation. Apart from that, people involved in culinary tourism also experienced an increase in income, as a result of reduced purchases of complementary products in the form of vegetables that they were able to produce themselves, as well as strengthening environmental conservation.

Running, walking, and cross-country skiing: how to shape adolescents' personalities through physical activity?

Adolescence is crucial for personality development, and sports play a significant role. This study investigates the impact of various sports on the personality traits of junior high and high school students in Shandong Province, focusing on neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. Utilizing data from the "Database of Youth Health," we employed Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) and Generalized Structural Equation Modeling (GSEM) to analyze the effects of physical activity on personality development. Findings reveal that walking significantly enhances openness and decreased neuroticism, while jogging/running substantially improves extraversion, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. Cross-country skiing, however, negatively impacts all assessed personality traits. In addition, the importance of gender differences in the relationship between physical activity and personality development was revealed. The results offer insights for promoting adolescent personality development through targeted sports activities.
