The present article explains the model of risk management in IT projects Mogripi created from two main approaches: Project Management (PMBOK ®, 2013) and Risk Management (PMBOK ®, 2013; NTC ISO 31000 ®, 2011, COBIT ®, 2012). Identification and Mitigation of Risks associated with Stakeholders in IT Projects: A Case Study in the Period of Merger in the Telecoms Industry

This paper identifies risks associated with stakeholders in IT projects in the period of merger in telecommunications companies and proposes mitigation actions. It adopts an interpretive epistemology in an exploratory case study. The results include a list of unique risks in IT projects in such a period and recommendations for mitigating the risks identified in the study. The theoretical contribution is a list of risks during the merger of telecommunications companies, and the contribution to the practice enables project managers apply the findings identified and mitigations in the risk management in IT projects in a similar setting.

This paper examines approaches to preliminary risk management in IT projects. It states a need for a multi-level information system that would integrate all phases of the IT risk management cycle. We suggest using production rules to cluster risks and developing an integral risk assessment procedure based on the analytic hierarchy process.

IT project risk assessment methods: a literature review

A key step of IT project risk management is risk assessment. Risk assessment methods rely on the problem and object to be addressed. This study introduces the process of IT project risk assessment and reviews applications of IT project risk assessment methods. Furthermore, we analyse and compare 20 methods for assessing risk in IT project. Finally, this study proposes a target-process-oriented framework for classifying IT project risk assessment methods. Differences of IT project risk assessment methods are also analysed.

A Critical Decision Interview Approach to Capturing Tacit Knowledge

Interest in the capture of tacit knowledge within organizations has risen in recent years. However, while the capture of explicit knowledge is relatively straightforward, methods for eliciting tacit knowledge are less well developed. This paper describes how the critical decision interview method can assist expert respondents to articulate tacit knowledge by probing beyond their espoused theories about their actions to reveal their practice. Tacit knowledge can then be identified by contrasting respondents’ practice with theoretical prescriptions for “best practice” in the field. The application of the method in an investigation of risk management in IT projects is described, and the effectiveness of this method for surfacing tacit knowledge is discussed.
