GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING TEACHERS IN FOSTERING STUDENTS' DISCIPLINARY ATTITUDES IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS

The issue of student discipline becomes very important for the learning process at school. If students are not disciplined with all the school rules and regulations, the learning process will be disrupted, becoming uncomfortable and disorganized, which in turn encourages students to commit violations. This research aims to analyze the role of Guidance and Counseling teachers in instilling students' discipline, as well as to describe the strategies used by Guidance and Counseling teachers in fostering students' discipline. The research method used in this study is qualitative research. There are four methods of data collection techniques, namely through observation, interviews, the distribution of questionnaires in the form of question lists, and through assessment tests that involve analysis. The results of the field research findings revealed that the role of the guidance counselor in instilling discipline among students at SMP has been implemented quite well.

Novice EFL Teachers’ Belief and Emotional Regulation in Response to Students’ Misbehaviors in the Classrooms

This research report shares the findings that emerged from a qualitative study in which the main objective was to discover whether or not novice EFL teachers regulate their negative emotions during their initial teaching practice and, if so, how they do this. Semi-structured interviews, recorded classroom observations, collected the data, stimulated recall interviews, and wrote journals for reflections and explanations of why they expressed and regulated their emotions in those incidents. The participants were three novice teachers who have been teaching English at the same university for about five years. Data collection of student-teacher interaction was carried out during their teaching. The research findings reveal that teachers often experience negative emotions triggered by students' conduct in the classroom, such as discipline issues, lack of engagement, and incorrect responses. Teachers successfully used techniques to redirect their attention and reassess the situation to counteract annoyance and disappointment. Ultimately, these strategies replaced negative emotions with a new outlook through substitute teaching activities. These observations provide EFL teachers with insightful advice on dealing with negative emotions effectively, resulting in a more positive classroom atmosphere where English is taught.

The Impact of Position Levels on Time Discipline Among Kitchen Department Employees at The Westin Hotel Jakarta

Purpose: This study aims to examine the relationship between job levels and time discipline among employees in the kitchen department at The Westin Jakarta Hotel. Research method: A Quantitative-Descriptive approach was employed, utilizing a questionnaire to gather data. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS software. Results and discussion: The findings reveal that time discipline issues persist, particularly among employees at the Sous Chef level, who accumulated approximately 1,004 minutes of tardiness in a single month. Implications: The study concludes that job level does not significantly influence time discipline, highlighting that punctuality issues are prevalent across various job positions.

Eksplorasi penerapan reward and punishment aparatur sipil negara dalam upaya meningkatkan kedisiplinan pegawai pemerintah kota Sukabumi

The issue of discipline among civil servants is considered one of the bureaucratic pathologies. This can hinder the progress and effectiveness of government, leading to delays in decision-making and a lack of accountability. In the government of Sukabumi City, there are still civil servants who commit violations and social deviations, resulting in disciplinary actions ranging from light to severe, which can cause losses for both the individuals involved and the relevant institutions. The Regional Personnel and Human Resource Development Agency (BKPSDM) of Sukabumi City has implemented a reward and punishment system in an effort to improve employee discipline. This study aims to explore the extent to which the application of reward and punishment impacts the improvement of employee discipline in the Sukabumi City government. The method used is a descriptive research approach with a qualitative perspective, employing instruments such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the reward and punishment system in the Sukabumi City government has been effective and has had a positive impact on employee discipline. However, a lack of firmness, transparency, and guidance from leaders has resulted in a weak response from employees towards the reward and punishment system. In addition to the reward and punishment system, the Sukabumi City government also conducts training and technical guidance activities for its employees, aimed at developing human resources and enhancing employee competencies.

Extent of Parents Involvement in Enhancing Public Secondary School Students' Discipline in Siha District, Tanzania

Abstract: This study investigated the extent to which parent involvement can enhance the discipline of public secondary school students in Siha District. The study employed a convergent design under a mixed-method approach. The targeted population of 17 public secondary schools contains 17 heads of schools, 17 discipline teachers, and 7553 students from public secondary schools in Siha District. A stratified random sampling technique was used to sample 380 students from 15 schools, and a total population purposive sampling technique was used for 15 heads of schools and 15 discipline teachers to form a sample of 410 respondents. The study utilised questionnaires and interview guides for data collection, with instrument validation done by experts in educational planning and admiration at Mwenge Catholic University. The established reliability coefficients for students Likert items found in questionnaires were 0.842. The reliability of qualitative research tools was established through triangulation. The qualitative data were presented in narrative form and direct quotations and analysed thematically. The quantitative data were presented in a table and summarised in frequencies, percentages, and mean scores. Rigorous adherence to ethical concerns all over the study. The study found that, to a large extent, parent involvement enhances discipline among public secondary school students. The study concluded that parental involvement is crucial in improving student discipline in public secondary schools. The study recommends prioritising parental involvement in addressing student discipline issues rather than resorting to other strategies.

UNDERSTANDING THE MULTI-SYSTEM MANIFESTATIONS OF HYPERMOBILITY IN YOUR PATIENTS

Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD or hEDS) is attributed to a collagen abnormality associated with excessive joint flexibility. Approximately 90% of females with hip dysplasia have hypermobility. Manifestations of hypermobility in various body systems are unique to every patient, affecting different tissues of the body with varying degrees of severity. Our purposes were to identify the manifestations of hypermobility across multiple body systems and to study the recognition of hypermobility in the medical literature of multiple specialties over multiple decades.A literature search of the major medical disciplines for key words associated with HSD was performed. These specialties included gastroenterology, gynecology, neurology, psychiatry, oral-maxillofacial surgery, cardiology, and orthopaedic surgery. A specialty-specific impact factor (IF) score was calculated as the percentage of research articles that referenced hypermobility as a comorbidity over all articles within that specialty. Statistical differences were identified using single factor ANOVA with significance determined at p<0.05. We reviewed many published, specialty-specific manifestations of hypermobility, and describe them.All six non-orthopaedic specialties demonstrated a continually increasing relative IF ratio throughout the study period with a peak impact average of 0.22 (p<0.05 compared with other time ranges). There was a 93.3% overall increase in IF scores from the 1992–1998 period to the most recent period examined (p<0.05).Hypermobility is increasingly recognized as a significant health issue in multiple disciplines. Since dysplasia is associated with approximately 40% of all primary total hip arthroplasty cases, understanding the multi-system manifestations, and broad impact of hypermobility on patients, is relevant for every hip surgeon. We are expanding our research into other medical disciplines, including urology, ophthalmology, dermatology, clinical psychology, and others.

Analisis Tata Kelola Sampah di Kecamatan Johan Pahlawan Kabupaten Aceh Barat

Waste management governance is crucial for environmental sustainability in local communities. This study examines waste management governance in Johan Pahlawan Subdistrict, Aceh Barat Regency, in 2021. Through qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys, data were collected to assess existing practices, identify challenges, and propose recommendations. Findings indicate the implementation of waste management regulations and collaborative efforts with government agencies, private entities, and community members. However, challenges persist, including incomplete enforcement of regulations, societal discipline issues, and staff turnover. Despite these challenges, the management of waste is supported by human resources, adequate budget allocations, infrastructure, and sector-wide assistance. While regulations have not fully yielded optimal outcomes, the framework provided by Qanun Number 4 of 2017 on Waste Management in Aceh Barat guides these efforts. Conclusion: The study concludes that waste management governance in Johan Pahlawan Subdistrict, Aceh Barat Regency, is underway, evidenced by collaborative initiatives and regulatory adherence.

The Role of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) in Uncovering Narcotics Crimes Among Students in the Legal Area of Medan City

This study examines the role of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) in addressing narcotics crimes among students in Medan City. The research explores the legal framework, police responsibilities, protective measures for children, influencing factors on law enforcement, and challenges faced by Polrestabes Medan. A descriptive-qualitative case study methodology is employed with statutory and case approaches. Primary data is obtained from interviews with the police, while secondary data comes from literature reviews. The normative-empirical legal research method analyzes legal principles, regulations, expert doctrines, and relevant literature. The research findings highlight the need for differentiated legal treatment for juvenile offenders and the application of Restorative Justice in juvenile criminal justice. Additionally, the study identifies internal and external challenges faced by Polrestabes Medan, including issues of mental discipline, low success rates in drug raids, and financial constraints. The research provides valuable insights to enhance law enforcement efforts in combating drug abuse among students, emphasizing the necessity for a comprehensive understanding of influencing factors and overcoming challenges.

The problem of criminal statistical casuistry of the category of "extremist crimes" based on examples of qualitative and quantitative analysis of their indicators.

The subject of the study consists of separate statistical indicators of extremist crimes in their relationship with the formal definition of the list of such acts in Russian legislation. Special attention is paid to various approaches to explaining the phenomenon of extremism by sciences other than criminology; the content of criminal law signs of the phenomenon under consideration; analysis of the place of extremist crimes in the structure of modern Russian crime; the problem of forming objective criminal statistics due to the adoption of novelties of administrative and criminal legislation; issues of registration discipline of this group of criminal encroachments and the latency of illegal acts. The purpose of the presented work is to put forward and verify the hypothesis of the presence of specific statistically significant dependencies in the registration of the phenomenon of criminal extremism and to analyze the impact of the completeness of the data obtained in this way on the conclusions of criminological science. Methodologically, in our theoretical judgments, we relied on the universal method of dialectical materialism. Private methods consisted in using methods of statistical grouping of data, correlation analysis. The scientific novelty of the work carried out consists in the fact that we explained the reasons (origins) of the use of the criminal statistical approach in the formulation of the definition of extremism (extremist activity) by the legislator in 2002. By analyzing various approaches to understanding extremism from other sciences, the inconsistency of other formulations of the concept was determined. From a dialectical-materialistic point of view, a hypothesis has been put forward that criminal extremism belongs exclusively to political crime. They pointed to the limited volume of recorded crimes from the point of view of the "law of large numbers" as one of the main applied shortcomings that arise when analyzing indicators in modern criminological research. They justified the absence of a linear correlation between "prejudicial" administrative offenses and the corresponding extremist elements of crimes, pointing out, however, that the relationship of states between them persists at three analyzed stages. In the conclusions, we pointed out the key problems of the formation of modern criminal statistics in terms of the formation of our objective ideas about the state of the phenomenon of criminal extremism.

Peran Guru Bimbingan Konseling Dalam Meningkatkan Kedisiplinan Siswa

This study uses a qualitative methodology, primarily interview and document analysis techniques, to ascertain the role guidance and counseling teachers play in resolving student discipline issues. The results of the study show that guidance and counseling instructors can use a variety of strategies, including one-on-one counseling, mentoring, and observation, to address a range of issues, including student behavior.

Teachers’ emotion regulation in coping with discipline issues: Differences and similarities between primary and secondary schools

This qualitative study investigates teachers’ emotion regulation strategies in coping with discipline issues in primary and secondary schools. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 24 Israeli teachers, 12 from each level of education. Findings indicate that teachers at both levels of education used several similar strategies to regulate their emotions in coping with issues of discipline, but situation modification and reappraisal of the emotional stimulus were the most frequently reported strategies by primary school teachers. Masking, self-talk, and rumination were most frequently reported by secondary school teachers. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed.

TÜRKİYE'DE İNGİLİZ DİLİ EĞİTİMİNİN SORUNLARI ÜZERİNE KAPSAMLI BİR ARAŞTIRMA: İNGİLİZCE ÖĞRETMEN ADAYLARININ GÖRÜŞLERİ

The current study aimed to investigate the problems of English language teaching in Turkey from the perspectives of pre-service English language teachers. For this aim, qualitative data were collected from fifteen 4th year pre-service language teachers. Open-ended questions, individual interviews and group discussions were used in the data collection process. Based on the content analysis technique, themes and categories were formed. According to the participants, there are problems with teacher education program, teachers, learners, assessment, curriculum, and context in English language teaching in Turkey. Excessive number of education faculties and teacher candidates, no standardization among ELT departments, divergence between theory and practice, insufficient teaching practicum, absence of assessing communicative skills in YKS, unvaried assessment tools, washback effect, test anxiety, course hours, inflexible curriculum, lack of extracurricular activities, inappropriate course books, non-communicative activities, high amount of L1 use, lack of teacher autonomy, demotivation, unwillingness, fear of making mistakes and anxiety, lack of interaction, lack of self-confidence, discipline issues, crowded classes, inadequate physical and technological resources, and audit gap were among some of the problems of English language teaching in Turkey. The findings were discussed in line with the previous findings and educational implications were offered.

Mind the gap: Early-career teachers’ level of preparedness, professional development, working conditions, and feelings of distress

In the first years of a teaching career, teachers experience high levels of distress, and the attrition rate appears to be high. Early-career teachers do not always feel well prepared for their job and feel insufficient support during their first experiences as a teacher. Induction programs, professional development, and school support could equip early-career teachers with the additional teaching repertoire they need and improve their well-being. The current study aimed to contribute insights into the importance of the level of preparedness, professional development, and working conditions for early-career teachers’ well-being. Based on multi-level regression analysis of TALIS 2018 data of more than 77,000 teachers in 24 European countries, the impact of the level of preparedness, professional development, and working conditions have been examined on teachers’ feelings of distress during their first years of teaching. Early-career teachers have been divided into two groups: novice teachers (with no more than 2 years of teaching experience) and advanced beginners (with between 2 and 5 years of teaching experience). These two groups were compared with mid-and late-career teachers (with more than 5 years of teaching experience). Level of preparedness and professional development variables were only weakly related to teachers’ feelings of distress, whereas working conditions were strongly related to early-career teachers’ feelings of distress. In particular, high workload and classroom discipline issues were strongly and positively related to teachers’ feelings of distress. Differences between the two early-career teacher groups and the group of mid- and late-career teachers were marginal. Yet, additional research is needed into the quality and the variety of initial teacher education and induction programs to come to more rigorous conclusions about the potential effects of different programs.

School Determinants Influencing Students’ Retention Rates in Public Secondary Schools in Rachuonyo South Sub-County, Homabay County

The issue of retention of students in public secondary schools is a major concern all over the world. The purpose of this study was to establish the determinants of students’ retention in secondary schools in Rachuonyo South Sub-County, Homa-bay County. The study focused on the family, school, and student factors influencing the retention of students in the secondary schools in Rachuonyo South Sub-County. The target population in this study comprised 14,025 respondents comprised of 25 Principals, 250 teachers, 5400 parents and 8350 students. The sample size for this study included 225 respondents; using purposive sampling, the researcher selected all 25 Principals, 75 teachers, and 25 PTA Chairman and using simple random sampling, 100 students. The research instruments included questionnaires for teachers and students and an interview guide for the principals and parents. Qualitative data was analysed thematically along the objectives and presented in narrative forms, whereas quantitative data was analysed descriptively using frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation and inferentially using correlation and linear regression with the help of Statistical Packages for Social Science (SPSS Version 23). The findings of the study were presented using tables and charts. From the findings of the study, the regression analysis showed culture and students’ determinants were the only variables with the least number of significant predictors. In addressing the students’ determinates, the main points of focus that ought to have required more attention were ensuring students coped with school rules and avoided discipline issues and guidance, and counselling services must be deployed in the Rachuonyo South sub-county. On the issue of cultural determinants, the civilisation of the society and ensuring that traditions do not interfere with education must be addressed.

Impact of Student Leaders’ Participation in School Peer Counseling Programs on Learners’ Discipline in Public and Private Secondary Schools in Machakos Sub-County, Kenya

This paper focuses on student leaders’ participation in school peer counseling programs as a valuable strategy of student leaders’ integration in school governance. Intensive involvement of student leaders in school peer counseling programs is a worthwhile link between the students’ body, teachers and the school administration. It is an opportunity for the student leaders to interact and share with the students’ body as they air their views and concerns on academic and discipline issues in the school. Utilization of the information gathered from peer counseling forums by the school administrators in decision making translates to impressive learners’ discipline and academic performance. The study was carried out in Machakos sub-county, Machakos County, Kenya to investigate the impact of student leaders’ participation in school peer counseling programs on learners’ discipline in public and private secondary schools. The study was guided by two objectives; to establish the status of student leaders’ participation in school peer counseling programs and establish the impact on learners’ discipline. The study embraced a descriptive survey design. Simple random sampling and purposive sampling were employed to get the Sample size. Data were collected using questionnaires for the students and teachers and interview schedules for the deputy principals, principals, Board of Management (BoM) chairpersons, and directors of private schools. Further, relevant documents were scrutinized for triangulation of the information provided by the respondents. The data collected was processed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 21. The statistics were tabulated and subjected to regression analysis using ANOVA and coefficient models.The study established student leaders’ participation in school peer counseling programs as a golden chance for student leaders to interact with fellow learners’ as they express views and suggestions on school routines, rules, and regulations. Action on gathered information created a peaceful school environment suitable for mentoring learners .The result was improved learners' discipline. In contrast, student leaders who did not actively and openly interact with other learners missed an opportunity to gather information on learners' views and hence did not identify real issues affecting learners for the school administration action. The study concluded that participation of student leaders in school peer counseling was significantly higher at (p) 0.003 than student leaders not participating in school peer counseling programs (p) 0.047. Hence the null hypothesis was rejected. The study recommended that school principals and other school administrators should organize frequent school peer counseling programs and encourage student leaders and other learners to air their views.

Strategi Kepala Sekolah dalam Mengembangkan Sistem Pendidikan Menuju Madrasah Unggul di MI Islamiyah IV Pragaan Daya

This article examines the strategies employed by school principals in developing an education system towards excellence in MI Islamiyah IV Pragaan Daya. It describes the principal's strategies and explores the supporting and inhibiting factors that influence the implementation of these strategies. The study adopts a qualitative research approach, specifically a case study method, utilizing observation, interviews, and data collection techniques. To ensure data validity, measures such as credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmation are employed. The research findings indicate that the principal's strategies include enhancing teacher capacity, utilizing educational media and tools, fostering community collaboration, and enforcing discipline. These strategies encompass various aspects such as non-academic achievements, extracurricular activities, outputs, and the development of educational components such as goals, teachers and staff, curriculum, forecasting, and environment. However, several inhibiting factors are identified, including low student motivation, discipline issues, and limited financial resources. On the other hand, supporting factors include education, forecasting, and human resources.

Analisis Kinerja Pegawai pada Dinas Kependudukan dan Pencatatan Sipil Kota Medan

Based on the results of the performance appraisal of civil servants at the Medan City Population and Civil Registration Office in 2020 and 2021, it shows that employee performance has decreased, and there are employee discipline issues that need to be corrected. So the formulation of the problem in this study is how is the performance of employees at the Department of Population and Civil Registration of the City of Medan and what factors are hindering the performance of employees at the Office of Population and Civil Registration of the City of Medan. The research method used in this research is descriptive with qualitative analysis. Sources of data obtained from interviews, documentation, and observation. With the results of the study that the performance of Medan City Disdukcapil employees in population administration services is still relatively poor. Performance indicators according to Mangkunegara theory that have not been implemented properly are the quantity of work, work discipline and work initiatives. While the indicators of work quality and responsibility have been carried out properly by employees. While the recommendation in this study is that Medan City Disdukcapil employees need to be more aware of the importance of working time discipline, so that employees work at all predetermined working hours. Leaders need to be more assertive in disciplining employees who violate work time regulations so that they can provide good learning for all employees. Employees should seek efforts to speed up the handling of population administration work without compromising quality or accuracy in carrying out work. It is better if the leader needs to exercise better supervision of his subordinates so that there is no opportunity to abuse the authority given to him.

Pengaruh Tunjangan Kinerja dan Disiplin Kerja Terhadap Kinerja Pegawai di Kantor Kecamatan Panjang Kota Bandar Lampung

The study aims to identify merit pay and labor discipline issues affecting employee performance in the Panjang district of Bandar Lampung. As a research method, descriptive and quantitative field research is used. Research data were collected through a questionnaire completed by 30 respondents. The study concluded that performance bonuses have a significant impact on employee performance, as indicated by the X1 significance level analysis. This is less than a value (0.000 1.984). Furthermore, work discipline also has a large effect on employee performance, with the X2 significance level being less than a value (0.259 1.984). Combining performance bonuses and work discipline affects employee performance, and the calculated Fcount of 23,336 is greater than the Ftable of 3,354. The research hypothesis is accepted. A correlation coefficient (r) of 0.796 indicates a valid relationship between the independent and dependent variables. However, fluctuating performance pay, and work discipline accounted for only 63.4% of his variability in employee performance, with the remaining 36.6% of his being influenced by other factors not investigated in this study.

Virtual High Schools: Principal Leadership in an Underexplored Context

Principal Wilson is a first-year leader of a virtual high school. Following four years as an assistant principal in the brick-and-mortar school, she encounters unanticipated leadership challenges and policy dilemmas. Although discipline issues are nearly nonexistent, remote testing presents an ethical challenge. Moreover, she discovers that implementing the tenants of social presence is an unconditional requirement of a virtual school. In this case, the principal faces tough decisions when considering discipline for cheating, the lack of professional development for part-time teachers, and the potential effects of trauma-influenced behavior. This case explores the emerging field of virtual school principal leadership in the context of increasing online K–12 learning post-pandemic.

School principals’ emotionally draining situations and student discipline issues in the context of work intensification

Over the past decade, research into principals’ work intensification has revealed that principals spend significant work hours on student discipline and attendance issues, and that they report high levels of emotionally draining situations. In the current study, we examined the relationship between student discipline issues and principals’ emotionally draining situations to determine if variables related to student discipline issues affected principals’ experiences of emotionally draining situations. Using a correlational research design with hierarchical regression, we analysed data from a digital survey of school principals in Ontario, Canada. A total of 1434 surveys were included in the final analysis, with respondents from elementary, high-school and combined schools. Results showed a correlation between student discipline and attendance issues and principals’ experiences of emotionally draining situations, while also showing that student discipline and student and parent mental health were strong predictors of principals’ experiences of emotionally draining situations. These findings have important implications in supporting principals: These insights can inform principal preparation programmes by showing the need for increased training on identifying and treating emotionally draining situations. Insights may also encourage policymakers to review student discipline and student/parent mental health policies in light of the revelation of their impact on principals’ work.
