Transforming of Moderate Character Education in Islamic Educational Institutions

The study focuses on moderate character education in Islamic educational institutions, especially those based on Islamic organizations such as Nahdlatul Ulama, Muhammadiyah, and Syarikat Islam. The study aims to reveal the moderate values of Islamic education institutions and their implementation in educational activities. The research uses a qualitative multisite approach, with data collection techniques through field observations, interviews, and documentation. This study includes Islamic educational institutions based on religious organizations, namely Nahdlatul Ulama, Muhammadiyah, and Syarikat Islam. Research locations are 1) Education and Social Foundation, Khadijah High School, East Java, as an Islamic educational institution based in Nahdlatul Ulama; 2) Muhammadiyah Boarding School, Yogyakarta; and 3) Cokroaminoto School, Surakarta, Central Java. The researchers performed data analysis using modified analytic induction analysis. Data analysis follows the stages of condensation, data display, verification, and conclusion. The results of this study show that each educational institution has moderate character values: 1) tawasuth; 2) tawazun; and 3) ta'addul/I'tidal. These values are embodied in learning to form a moderate Muslim character and become the mercy to the whole world (rahmatan lil alamin).

Optimalisasi Badan Amil Zakat Nasional Dalam Upaya Penyaluran Dana Zakat Melalui Program Sleman Cerdas Terhadap Peningkatan Pendidikan

Education is one of the Indonesian nation's development sectors to advance society in forming intellectual human resources. It is very important to pay attention to contributions in the field of education, one of which is the use of zakat funds as a solution for children who are less fortunate in terms of education. Even so, it turns out that there are still many people who have not been touched by educational assistance through zakat. This research was conducted in 4 different places, namely at the BAZNAS Sleman Office, SD Negeri Perumnas 3, MTs N 4, and MAN 5 Sleman. The research method used is a qualitative method with a normative juridical and sociological approach. The results of this research are the distribution of zakat funds at BAZNAS Sleman with 5 work programs. The 5 work programs consist of: Productive Sleman, Healthy Sleman, Smart Sleman, Careful Sleman and Taqwa Sleman. Apart from that, BAZNAS Sleman also coordinates with Islamic organizations such as Nahdatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah so that there is no overlap with each other. In particular, the Sleman Pintar program is implemented in coordination with the Education Department and also the Social Service so that it is right on target and helps education to create a superior generation in the future.

Gus Dur’s Enduring Legacy: Accruing Religious Merit in the Afterlife

<p>Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), Indonesia’s fourth president (1999–2001) and leader of the traditionalist Islamic organisation Nahdlatul Ulama (1984–1999), continues to influence Indonesia in positive and meaningful ways despite his death in 2009. He proved that Islam and a pluralistic political culture were compatible and that Indonesian Islam had a global role. His legacy continues through the Wahid Foundation, Nahdlatul Ulama, and the National Awakening Party. The Wahid Foundation operates under the directorship of his daughter, Yenny Wahid, and is dedicated to improving Islam and Indonesian society through documenting religious intolerance and injustice and by issuing recommendations. Following Nahdlatul Ulama’s National Congress in December 2021, its leadership has been dominated by Gus Dur’s allies, including his wife and four daughters, and his former presidential spokesperson Yahya Cholil Staquf, all of whom have a deep commitment to his values. Gus Dur’s former political party, the National Awakening Party, remains another institution which supports pluralism and secular inclusiveness. However, the relationship between Gus Dur’s allies and this party remains fractured, just as it was before he died. Despite an impeached presidency, a fallout with the National Awakening Party, and the considerable time that has passed since his death, he has produced an enduring legacy. Public deference to the late Gus Dur is reminiscent of the nine saints who Islamised Java half a millennia ago. This is because traditionalist Muslims believe that one’s deeds which produce on-going benefits to society will, in the afterlife, continue to accrue religious merit, and millions visit Gus Dur’s grave every year to demonstrate this.</p>

Nikah Muda: The Hijrah Movement of Anti-Dating Communities from Progressive to Conservative in Indonesia (A Critical Study of Hadith)

The proliferation of hijrah groups among youth has had a significant impact, with positive outcomes such as enhanced religious understanding among teenagers and an increase in the adoption of more Islamic attire. However, this has also brought about negative consequences, including the dissemination of radical and textual interpretations, leading to conservatism. This article aims to uncover the controversy surrounding early marriage among Muslim millennials, driven by a tendency towards textual religious understanding. The research employs a qualitative method, drawing primary data from social media platforms of anti-dating millennial communities and online Islamic organizations in Indonesia. Secondary data were sourced from books, journals, and other relevant articles. The research findings indicate that controversy arises from the selection of hadith texts and differing interpretation methods. Anti-dating communities use motivational hadiths to support early marriage, employing a literal textual understanding related to sexual motivation, religious and individual piety, the vision of a happy family, emulation of the Prophet's marriage, and assurance of sustenance from Allah. Conversely, scholars use hadiths to reject early marriages with contextual understanding. The disregard of the youth for the views of scholars opposing early marriage indicates a shift in religious authority among Muslim millennials from traditional figures to influencers popular on social media. Early marriage reflects the hybridization of the religious identity of Muslim millennials, maintaining religious values while remaining trendy and cool. The re-reading of hadiths is conducted by examining the social-historical context and contemporary circumstances within the discourse of modernity.

The article is devoted to the study and analysis of the influence of political Islam on the political situation in the Muslim world. It is shown that the influence of political Islam in the field of politics of the Muslim world is limited, but the influence of the terrorist activities of radical Islamic groups and organizations should not be underestimated. Radical, traditional and moderate political Islam directly affects the political situation only in thirteen Islamic states with stable ruling regimes, as well as in secular Turkey. At the same time, in all these states, except for the theocratic Islamic dictatorships - Afghanistan and Iran, as well as the Emirate of Qatar, the authorities severely suppress any manifestations of radical political Islam. In twenty quasi-Islamic and secular Muslim states, political Islam does not have a significant impact on the political situation and processes. In some states of this part of the Muslim world, the authorities are forced to actively combat the cross-border terrorist activities of radical Islamic organizations. In almost a quarter of the states of the Muslim world, the political situation is currently unstable, which does not allow us to fully adequately assess the influence of political Islam in these states.

Genealogy of Islamic Business Organization: The Institutional Approach Towards Current Islamic Corporate Law

This article examines the social foundation which posed challenges to the adoption of corporate form as a business entity within the framework of Islamic legal tradition. This article employs juridical-normative research analysis with socio-legal approach. This paper concludes: (1) The corporate legal form was not required by the medieval Islamic legal system as well as the case in Western Europe due to several reason such as: an institutional vacuity; withdrawal of community capital resources into waqf institutions; stagnancy in institutional development of business organizations in Islamic law; and inability of the Muslim business elite to consolidate power. (2) In classical fiqh discussions, Islamic business organizations do not have legal personality. The closest approximation to corporate legal entities found in Islam have been bayt al-māl (public treasury), mosque property, and waqf (trusts). Recently, the scholars have approved the corporate form on the basis of fiqh principles of qiyas (analogy) and istihsan, or masaliha mursalah (public interest).

Exploring the concept and the communication principles of negotiation among Islamic corporate organizations

PurposeThe acceleration of globalized commerce and economic activities has meant that conventional and Shariah (Islamic law) compliant organizations transact and negotiate among themselves. Therefore, this study aims to explore the concept of corporate negotiation and the communicative principles that guide the negotiation process among Shariah-compliant organizations.Design/methodology/approachThe study uses a qualitative method through an inductive interpretative approach by conducting 20 in-depth interviews among four groups of experts. These consist of three muftis, ten academicians in Islamic assets, finance and asset jurisprudence; three practitioners in charge of inter-organizational negotiation and decision-making; and four shariah board members of selected Islamic banks.FindingsThe findings reported that business negotiation is used by Islamic organizations for reconciliation, consultation, resolving disagreements and as a means of achieving spiritual satisfaction. Furthermore, the key communicative principles of the negotiation process consist of the credibility of informational exchange, flexible interactions and the openness and truthful disclosure of information.Research limitations/implicationsThe empirical data discussed in this study supports the claim that macro-environmental factors and social and cultural values should be considered when examining business negotiating behaviors. However, this study focuses only on the banking/service organization negotiation. Therefore, future research should focus on the Islamic negotiation process in the context of diplomatic and international relations.Practical implicationsThe findings reported in this study offer insight for negotiators operating among Islamic organizations to understand the principles and process of negotiation in the purview of Shariah standards and principles.Originality/valueIn terms of theoretical implications, this study reveals a clear conceptual difference between the conventional concept and the Islamic perspective of corporate negotiation. Also, this study highlights the impact of organizational culture, specifically Islamic management strategies, on the business negotiation process and business communication principles.

Konsep Membangun Generasi “Tafaqquh Fid Din” di Pesantren Persatuan Islam (Persis) Cikarang Utara Kabupaten Bekasi

Islamic Unity or remembered PERSIS is an Islamic organization according to Deliar Noer above as an Islamic organization that has a modern movement in the educational and social fields. Although the Islamic Union was born on September 12, 1923, it was only around the 1930s that the Islamic Union had a formal educational institution called "Islamic Education" or Pendis. This first education project was spearheaded by Mohammad Natsir (Former Prime Minister of Indonesia). This institution consists of several schools including Kindergarten, HIS (both established in 1930), MULO (1931) and a teacher's school or Kweekschool (1932). In March 1936, the Islamic Union inaugurated another educational institution called Pesantren Persatuan Islam. As the name implies, the educational institution established at the initiative of Ahmad Hassan or better known as A. Hassan is intended to form missionary cadres who spread religion in the midst of society. Research Method used by the author in providing information in accordance with the focus of research through qualitative methods with document review. Document review is considered as document analysis, which consists of books, articles, internet and materials appropriate to the research. As for the ways in which the data is collected. First, through a literature review that is in accordance with the material to be researched. Second, after the data has been obtained by the researcher, then analyze the data through descriptive methods in accordance with the author's understanding in conducting this study. The curriculum structure used by the Islamic Union Islamic Boarding School in North Cikarang can be seen how the portion of religious knowledge is very diverse without eliminating subjects that are commonly studied in other schools. This is one way this pesantren wants to produce a generation that is tafaqquh fid din in providing subject matter that prioritizes the basics of Islamic science. The responsibility of pesantren is very heavy, covering many aspects, religious responsibility and being able to master Islamic science "Tafaqquh Fid din" as well as the development of Islamic civilization and adorn themselves with "akhlak al-karimah". Therefore, the Islamic Union Pesantren, one of the educational institutions has a great responsibility to implement all of it, namely producing a generation that they not only understand Islamic religious science but also have good morals in the midst of society.

Pelatihan Pengelolaan Organisasi Pesantren bagi Pengurus Pondok Pesantren Al Urwatul Wutsqo Jombang

This service is designed with the aim of providing training in managing Islamic boarding school organizations to the administrators of the Al Urwatul Wutsqo Jombang Islamic Boarding School. As an Islamic educational institution, Islamic boarding schools play a crucial role in shaping the character of students and providing holistic education. To ensure sustainability and sustainable development, effective and efficient management is needed. Through this training, it is hoped that administrators at the Al Urwatul Wutsqo Jombang Islamic Boarding School can develop their managerial skills, understand and implement best practices in managing Islamic boarding schools. Mastery of modern management concepts, strategic planning, human resource management and Islamic boarding school finances is the focus in improving organizational governance. In this way, it is hoped that Islamic boarding schools can provide the best service to students, achieve better educational and da'wah goals, and strengthen their organizational foundations to support long-term development. Overall, it is hoped that this training will make a positive contribution in advancing Islamic boarding schools as quality and competitive Islamic educational institutions.

The opportunities and limits of Islamist ideological developments on the rights of non-Muslims and women

Most academic scholars of the Muslim Brotherhood and like-minded Islamist organisations seem to agree that these groups have come to accept the nation state and the rules of the democratic game over the past few decades. At the same time, several scholars have shown in their work that reforms and developments among Islamists with regard to the state and democracy have not been accompanied by similar trends on religious minority rights and especially women’s rights. The long-held Islamist ideal of an Islamic state in which Islam provides the identity of the state remains difficult to square with full and equal citizenship for non-Muslims. Similarly, Islamists have been willing to make concessions with regard to women’s rights by reinterpreting Islamic tradition, but this has not moved as far as their revisionism with regard to the state and democracy. What is holding them back? The objective of this special issue is to begin to answer this question through various case studies, all of which focus on gaining greater insight into (the development of) views on the rights of religious minorities and women among non-violent Islamists since the Islamic revival in the Middle East and North Africa in the 1960s.

The Role of Nu-Cyber and Muhammadiyah-Cyber Role in Increasing Cyber-Extremism in the East Java

Penetration of the increasingly widespread use of the internet in society has inspired extremists to use cyberspace as a new arena for jihad. It is in this context that NU and Muhammadiyah as the largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia are trying to fill the void as well as take a role in digital literacy culture by forming a cyber team as a base for resistance to narratives produced by radicalism accounts. This research is classified as a type of qualitative research with a digital content analysis approach. Researchers will collect narratives produced by NU and Muhammadiyah accounts on social media in countering cyber-radicalism in Indonesia. The East Java NU cyber team provides media that plays a role in influencing the perspective of media users to enter on the big theme set by the East Java Cyber Muhammadiyah and NU cyber teams which always spread the values of Ahlussunnah Wal Jamaah so that the two organizations can provide an understanding of ahlussunnah wal jamaan with an elegant presentation and far from extreme thinking.

Perubahan Sosial Masyarakat Sebagai Dampak Didirikannya RA Darussalam di Desa Wonoharjo

Raudhatul Athfal is an early childhood education unit under the guidance of the Kementrian Agama. That way, it can make it easier to educate children and introduce Islamic teachings that are suitable for their children to school. The emergence of RA, which was mostly founded by Islamic-based institutions, whether Islamic mass organizations or other Islamic missionary institutions, is expected to have an influence on society, both social and religious life. Therefore by using qualitative methods. This research aims to describe the social changes in society as a result of the establishment of RA Darussalam in Wonoharjo Village. The research results show that before the establishment of RA Darussalam in Wonohrajo Village, the local community was reluctant to send their children to early childhood education due to the long distance between schools and family economic problems. However, after the founding of RA Darussalam, public interest in sending children to early childhood education institutions increased, which ultimately had an impact on the social conditions of the surrounding community. Apart from that, the establishment of RA Darssalam was also able to increase the level of community welfare through Darussalam Mart, which is a simple shop that provides the opportunity for parents of students or the surrounding community to leave their goods for sale at Darussalam Mart. Therefore, RA Darussalam not only has a social impact, but also an economic impact for the people of Wonoharjo Village.

The aim of this research is to find out how important the role of digital marketing is in attracting potential donors to donate to yayasan Galang Bersama Kami Foundation. This research approach uses a qualitative approach, which aims to interpret the data that has been collected, so as to obtain a general and comprehensive picture of the actual situation. Data collection techniques through interviews and observation. The data analysis technique uses interactive data analysis techniques. The results of this research are that digital marketing has the potential to attract potential donors to donate because it is very efficient in disseminating information about what is needed and to whom the donations are distributed. This research emphasizes the important role of the right digital platform to promote programs being run by foundations that are in need of potential donors. Using company digital marketing can increase trust and attract potential donors to donate to yayasan Galang Bersama Kami Foundation by using elements in digital marketing such as content marketing, social media, websites, digital advertising, CRM systems.

Mosque-Based Islamic Transmission: Historical Tracks of Diponegoro and KH. Hasyim Asy'ari in the Cemetery of Kediri

<em>The Kapurejo Salafiyah Mosque and Islamic Boarding School are proof of the transmission of the spread of Islam by Diponegoro and KH. Hasyim Asy'ari, founder of the Indonesian Islamic community organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). The mosque is a symbol of Islamic culture as a place of worship, education and social activities. The aim of this study is to examine the history of mosque-based Islamic transmission by tracing the historical traces of Diponegoro and KH. Hasyim Asy'ari in Pagu Kediri. This type of research uses qualitative research with descriptive analysis methods. The results obtained are that the An Nur Kapu mosque was once a simple mosque founded by Hasan Muhyi, a follower of Diponegoro during the Java War. The langgar was converted into a mosque after KH's wedding. Hasyim Asy'ari with Hasan Muhyi's daughter, Nyai Masruroh. After Diponegoro's arrest, a Kyai follower used the An Nur Kapu Mosque as a base to spread Islam in the Kapu area, Kediri. Diponegoro's followers spread and established mosques and Islamic boarding schools as a base for resistance outside Dutch control. Several ancient Islamic boarding schools in East Java together changed the focus of the struggle from physical conflict to education. KH Hasyim Asy'ari carried out reforms, especially in the field of education, by implementing education that had a more structured system. The strategy of the kyai and the An Nur Kapu mosque in spreading Islam is to provide teaching and learning systems that are in accordance with the culture of the community.</em>

This research article rigorously examines the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO)'s Capitals of Islamic Culture Program, focusing on its profound impact on education, science, and culture. It seeks to provide a scholarly analysis suitable for academic submission. The study employs a comprehensive approach, drawing insights from official documents, existing literature, and interviews with ICESCO officials. Key highlights of the research include an exploration of the program's historical context and its influence on the Islamic world. The article conducts a comparative analysis, positioning ICESCO's initiatives alongside similar programs by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and other international organizations, offering a global perspective. Furthermore, the article evaluates the achievements and experiences of the Capitals of Islamic Culture, emphasizing their substantial contributions to education, science, culture, and their alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These contributions span areas such as education, innovation, sustainable communities, climate action, justice, and partnerships. While recognizing the program as a platform for promoting Islamic culture and fostering intercultural dialogue, this study sheds light on associated challenges. It underscores the importance of a robust documentation system to effectively evaluate and record the experiences of designated capitals, thereby optimizing the program's potential to highlight the diverse and rich cultural tapestry of the Islamic world. Muhammadiyah dan Islam Wasathyah: Kajian tentang Agency Moderasi beragama melalui Sekolah Muhammadiyah

Muhammadiyah and wasathiyyah Islam are actually two things that cannot be separated because Muhammadiyah is an Islamic organization in Indonesia which has a mission of preaching amar ma'ruf nahi ungkar with an Islamic wasathiyyah approach. This research aims to examine in more depth using a literature approach the role of Muhammadiyah in strengthening religious moderation. The results of this research show that Muhammadiyah is an ideological group that represents Islamic groups in maintaining religious moderation as a national and state commitment. Has Tawassuth's commitment and principles, positions it as a moderate group, maintains balance and is consistent. Muhammadiyah makes Muhammadiyah schools as religious moderation agencies. Religious moderation in Muhammadiyah schools is carried out firstly, the religious da'wah model which is used as a space to implement religious moderation in this section consists of cult activities and religious lectures. Kultum or seven-minute lectures are a means of teaching religious moderation to students. Apart from religious lectures, secondly, Muhammadiyah schools also carry out social and religious activities

Exploration of the Impact of Religious Activities on Waste Management Behavior: An Analysis of the Understanding of Environmental Ethics

Waste management is a serious problem in Indonesia. The government is unable to handle around 36% of waste problems. These problems demand serious public attention. The concrete form of the public’s serious concern is the emergence of ethical environmental behavior in waste management. This research aims to explore the impact of religious observance activities on waste management and its comparison with the behavior of the public. This research used a sociological descriptive qualitative approach with an ethnographic method. This research compared the waste management behaviors of two respondent groups. The first group consists of women who have received mentoring and training in waste management with economic value. The comparison group is women who are members of the Jamaah Ummahat Islamic organization of Qur’an recitation in a mosque. The results show that there is consistency and continuity in forming an understanding of environmental ethics in their teachings that is capable of changing environmentally ethical behavior in waste management. The religious sermon material is delivered with effective communication that is easily understood by the Jamaah Ummahat members.

Kontroversi Dan Komparasi Prinsip Asuransi Syariah (Takaful) Perspektif DSN- MUI, Lembaga Tarjih Muhammadiyah, Nahdatul Ulama Dan Ulama Kontemporer

The development of sharia insurance in Indonesia continues to grow every year, so that the sustainability of sharia insurance has caused controversy among several Ulama circles, Islamic mass organizations such as NU and Muhammadiyah. Because many people think that sharia insurance is the same as conventional insurance. From the results of this comparison, it can be concluded that there are several groups of contemporary ulama who allow sharia insurance law based on social interests, so that in its implementation it is only permitted in tabarru' or ta'awun contracts. The aim of this research is to understand the concept of takaful which is based on sharia principles, to find out how the MUI views takaful in Indonesia. This research method uses a qualitative library research approach, in the form of literature studies sourced from secondary data, namely books, scriptures, journals and the Koran. From the discussion it is concluded that there are two controversies regarding the development of takaful, the first is allowing and the second is prohibiting. Basically, the principle of sharia insurance (takaful) can continue as long as it does not ignore or violate the provisions of sharia law that have been established by Allah SWT. One solution is to implement takaful purely with the principle of the ta'awun contract (ask for help).

Independence of the Islamic Students Association Responding to Indonesian Politics, Perceptions of Online Media

This article discusses the HMI issue, the main issue discussing the independence of the Islamic Student Association organization towards national politics, fully using historical research methods (History Research) with historical methods starting from the Heuristic, Criticism, Interpretation and Historiography stages. This article aims to find out about the HMI organization in the Indonesian political arena regarding the perception of online media. The data analysis technique in this research places more emphasis on the process of searching for data from online media which is carried out using internet studies. Based on the research results, it shows that the HMI Organization in its development has always been independent in the nation's political arena, even if there are cadres who take part in politics, it is the personal right of each individual.
