Accessibility and Modernization: Modern Islam Surau In Nagari Kurai Taji Pariaman (1912-1930)

Abstract: This article aims to analyze modernization in Kurai Taji, explain the influence of modernist Islam on Kurai Taji, and find the causes of the famine and its handling in 1939. This paper is based on historical methods, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The presence of the railway in Nagari Kurai Taji had a major influence in encouraging the presence of formal schools, the high interest of the surrounding nagari to attend school in Kurai Taji, including in the growth of modernist Islam. Uniquely, in Kurai Taji, the modernist Islamic movement started from a surau – a traditional Minangkabau-style education system that built religious networks and bases. The two surau that contributed the most to the spread of the Youth Movement in Kurai Taji were the Paninjauan Surau and the Dagang Surau. The rapid growth of the modernist Islamic movement and Muhammadiyah cannot be separated from the role of copra traders and the accessibility of rail transportation modes.Keywords: Train, Modernization, School, Surau, Muhammadiyah.

Development of the Education Curriculum at Daarul Abroor Modern Islamic Boarding School Banyuasin Regency 1994-2021

Abstract: This study discusses the development of the educational curriculum at Daarul Abroor Modern Islamic Boarding School in 1994-2021. The research method used in this study is the historical method. The research approach used in this research is a geographic approach, a sociological approach, and an educational approach. The results of this study are as follows (1) Daarul Abroor Modern Islamic Boarding School was founded by K.H. Edy Sunari in 1994 was based on his concern for developing Islamic Education and Da'wah Institutions in Tirtaharja Village. (2) The development of the educational curriculum at the Daarul Abroor Modern Islamic Boarding School in 1994-2021 used the MAK curriculum, Madrasah Aliyah for the Science and Social Sciences Department, Madrasah Aliyah for the Science Department, a combination ofKurikulum 2013and KMI, and KMI. (3) The impact of the development of the Daarul Abroor Islamic Boarding School curriculum for the Daarul Abroor Modern Islamic Boarding School education system, namely in learning activities and extracurricular activities, in addition to the impact on society, namely in the fields of religion, education and the economy.Keywords: Curriculum, Education, Daarul Abroor Modern Islamic Boarding School, Banyuasin.

Kompetensi Pedagogik Guru di Pondok Modern Darul Arqom Patean

The Darul Arqom Patean Modern Islamic Boarding School is one of the Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia which has the principle of providing the best education so that it can form graduates or alumni who are in line with National education goals as stated in Law No. 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System. To achieve this goal, of course, requires the role of the teacher to carry out his duties and functions in providing the best education or learning. To form quality teachers, every teacher at the Darul Arqom Patean Islamic Boarding School must fulfill their competencies as teachers, one of which is pedagogic competence. The purpose of this study was to determine the achievement of the pedagogical competency components of teachers at the Modern Darul Arqom Patean Islamic Boarding School. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection methods through interviews, observation, and FGD. The number of respondents in this study was 33 consisting of pesantren leaders, heads of student care bureaus, directors of KMI, and 30 teachers. After the data was collected, data analysis was carried out so that the results of the study revealed that 9 components of pedagogic competence had been mastered by teachers so that they were in the good category, 1 component was in the sufficient category, namely the competence to guide students by being role models, and two competencies that were still in the less category, namely the first competency in mastering learning theory and learning, both understanding the characteristics of students.

The Impact of Neuroscience-Based Modern Islamic Education on the Aspect of Creative Imagination and Development of Religious Moderation on Madura Island

<p class="abstrak">The fading of Islamic education in Pamekasan is explicitly in remote villages. The decline in Islamic education on Pamekasan Island in the Modern Era, especially in urban areas and remote villages. This is due to the fact that Islamic education in Madura still adopts Islamic boarding school-based education. The need for the development of Islamic education such as religious moderation and the use of information technology, strengthening knowledge management for educators, <em>ustadz</em>, and teachers in Pamekasan Madura. The purpose of this study was to analyse the development of Islamic education on the island of Madura. This study used a field research approach, with the informants being the Pamekasan community, <em>santri</em>, students, teachers, lecturers, and community leaders. Data were collected by observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study proved that the Madurese follow the concepts and alternative approaches to knowledge based on modern Islam. Knowledge and approaches in the technological era are quite accepted by young people, the younger generation, and adults. The neuroscience approach that is packaged with modern Islamic education is able to provide awareness and technology literacy in the Madurese community. One of them is more sensitive and aware of the importance of Islamic education.</p>

Jadidism as a New Type of Religiousity: Essay on Preliminary Conceptualization

The present article focuses on understanding the phenomenon of Jadidism in the context of the global Islamic renewal movement. It consists of an introduction, two paragraphs and a conclusion. In the introduction, the author indicates the relevance and extent of discussion of the topic. It emphasizes the admissibility of various approaches to the thematization of this phenomenon. The first paragraph deals with some modern concepts in the historiography of the Jadid issue. It also criticizes an attempt to shut down this issue with a revisionist deconstruction of the opposition between Jadidism and Kadimism as presented in the works of D. DeWeese and some of his Russian supporters. The author argues for the absence of serious grounds for rejecting this opposition, for the rhetorical nature of its criticism and for the irrelevance of the revisionists’ arguments. In the second paragraph, the author shifts the focus from criticism of opponents to a “positive” presentation of some of the fundamental theses that must be taken into account when studying the Jadid movement. Based on the conceptual distinction between religiosity and religion, the author describes Jadidism as a new type of religiosity that has emerged as a result of responding to the challenges of modernity. At the same time, the term “modernity” itself is interpreted in the light of the theory of multiple versions of modernity. This helps to avoid an overly facile evaluation of Islamic modernism as an inherently Eurocentric phenomenon. Furthermore, the second paragraph points out that Islamic modernism, including Jadidism, is deeply rooted in the Islamic tradition of tajdid. The author concludes with his interpretation of the essence of the Jadid project.

Modern Islam in Southeast Asia : Mindanao

This research is entitled History of Modern Islam in Southeast Asia: Mindanao. The limitations of the discussion in this study are: 1) History of the Arrival of Islam in the Philippines, 2) Spanish Colonial Period, 3) United States Imperialism Period, 4) Transitional Period, 5) Post-Independence Period until now. It aims to find answers to the following questions: (1) What are the reasons behind their armed struggle and the search for secession? (2) What actions have been taken and are still being taken by the Philippine government to solve the problem of Muslim rebellion? This research was conducted using a literature study approach, with the aim of tracing the history of Islam in Mindanao. The results show that: The research shows that the causes of the Muslim problem are rooted in the Philippines' colonial past while the direct and current causes are traced to government neglect and abuse, corrupt local/traditional Muslim leaders, agrarian discontent and land disputes and, the rise of the Islamic religion in the whole world. The study revealed that the Philippine government was sincere in finding a solution to the problem as they hadstarted peace negotiations with the insurgents. Any peace negotiations or talks that the government participates in are always within the terms of the Tripoli Agreement and within the constitutional boundaries of the Philippines.

Implementasi Metode Rabbani dalam Pembelajaran Tahfidz Al-Qur'an Santriwati Kelas XII

The aims of this research was to know the implementation of the Rabbani method in learning of the tahfidz Al-Qur'an at the Al-Ikhlas Taliwang Modern Islamic Boarding School and Nurul Haramain NW Narmada Modern Islamic Boarding School, the obstacles and solutions. This research was qualitative research with multi-site study design. Data collection was carried out through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Determination of informants used purposive sampling technique. Data analysis used interactive analysis techniques by Miles Hubermen and Saldana. The results of the research showed that: 1) Implementation of the Rabbani method in learning of tahfidz Al-Qur'an at Al-Ikhlas Taliwang Modern Islamic Boarding School and Nurul Haramain NW Narmada Modern Islamic Boarding School for females agreed with steps and stages contained in the instructions of use of the Rabbbani method, 2) Internal obstacles: the students did not master makharijul huruf and tajwid, forgot, and did not focus. External obstacles: the difficulty in distinguishing the similar verses, the difficulty in dividing the time and the limited number of teachers who master the Rabbani method. 3) Solutions: providing of motivation, internal approach, reading improvement (tahsin) of Al-Qur'an, tahfidz contact book, delivering the memorization (tasmi'), memorization repetition (muraja'ah), training of the Rabbani method, study visits, and taking notes on similar verses.

Field research was used to obtain the data needed in this study, namely by using data collection tools through observation, interviews or structured interviews, and documentation. The data obtained was then processed and analyzed. In this study, qualitative research was used with an analytical description approach, namely by describing the research results obtained through structured interviews on research sources. The results of the research on Implementation of the Madrasah Head's Policy in increasing teacher pedagogic competence carried out by the Madrasah head at the Al-Habib Islamic Boarding School Pangkalan Brandan by providing policies to teachers are included in an activity, training, workshops or workshops, training and seminar activities related to competency development teacher. Al-Habib Pangkalan Brandan Islamic Boarding School is one of the superior madrasas that produces the best graduates. that increase in success is mentioned, by cross-checking the teacher's basic abilities in carrying out daily tasks. Conducting internal workshops and training outside the madrasah (training) held at the training center which aims to improve teacher pedagogic competence. The madrasa head always provides motivation and guidance to teachers so that teachers are able to carry out their duties as well as possible and always provides training to teachers so that teachers are more professional in carrying out each job. Obstacles faced by the head of the madrasa at Al-Habib Islamic Boarding School Pangkalan Brandan in implementing policies to improve teacher pedagogic competence include: lack of workshops and training activities related to pedagogic competence, limited calling of participants, lack of teacher ability to carry out tasks properly, and effectively financially limited funds for internal madrasas make it impossible for all teachers in madrasas to implement it
 
 
 

Status gizi pada siswi remaja di pondok pesantren modern

Nutritional status of female students in Modern Islamic boarding schoolBackground: Female students in Islamic Boarding schools whose adolescents, in the majority, need attention because of their physiological condition in the future. Similar studies in Indonesia with significant subjects of adolescent girl students still need to be expanded. Objective: We aim to find out the prevalence of the nutritional status of adolescent girl students in Islamic Boarding Schools. Methods: The study used a cross-sectional design and had 435 respondents from grades 1-6 (11-19 years old) in Darussalam Gontor Modern Islamic Boarding School for Girls 1. The study measured anthropometrics such as weight, height, and middle-upper arm circumference (MUAC). The following variable was nutritional status which is classified based on Body Mass Index-for-age (BAZ) and height-for-age (HAZ) Z-score, as well as chronic energy deficiency (CED) status. Results: Most subjects (77%) were classified as having normal nutritional status based on BMI-for-age. However, there were 47.6% of students experienced CED, and 15.2% of students were stunted based on height-for-age. Nutritional status according to BMI-for-age showed that 72.73% of students with normal nutritional status and 22.75% of students with overweight were found to be stunted. Notably, among the students with normal nutritional status based on BMI-for-age, the majority were also found to have CED (95.65%). Conclusion: The prevalence of adolescent female students with underweight and severe underweight nutritional status based on BMI-for-age was 1.84%, whereas the prevalence of overweight and obesity was 20.92%. Additionally, 47.6% of female students experience CED, and 15.2% are classified as stunting based on height-for-age.

Learning Strategy for Junior High School Modern Islamic College Amanah 1 Deli Serdang Regency During the Covid-19 Pandemic

The purpose of this study was to find out how the teacher's learning strategy at the SMP Perguruan Islam Modern Amanah 1 Deli Serdang Regency during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method. The technique used is random sampling. The instruments used in this study were interviews and questionnaires. The results of this study indicate that the learning strategy used by the teacher is to use media applications such as Google Meet, Video, Whatsapp, and establish communication with students' parents. Through this learning strategy, it can be a strategy that is quite effective and efficient in controlling the learning process even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.

Implementation of Development Management Local Content Curriculum in Modern Islamic Boarding Schools Al-Azhary Lesmana

The purpose of this research is to determine the development of the local content curriculum in the modern Islamic boarding school Al-Azhary Lesmana Ajibarang Banyumas. This research is qualitative research using gap evaluation (DEM). This research was conducted in early 2022. Data collection used observation, interviews, and documentation studies. Data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. Evaluation of the look content curriculum implementation program includes implementation, organization, teaching staff, students, funding budget, facilities and infrastructure, and evaluation of learning outcomes. The results of the study show that the entire program for implementing the local content curriculum can run well, although there are still many shortcomings that still need to be addressed. Thus the development of a local content curriculum can have a positive impact on other Islamic boarding schools in the Banyumas district.
 
 ABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengembangan kurikulum muatan lokal di pondok pesantren modern Al-Azhary Lesmana Ajibarang Banyumas. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif menggunakan evaluasi kesenjangan (DEM). Penelitian ini dilakukan pada awal tahun 2022. Pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumantasi. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Evaluasi program pelaksanaan kurikulum muatan lokal mencakup pelaksanaan, pengorganisasian, tenaga guru, siswa, anggaran pembiayaan, sarana prasarana, dan evaluasi hasil pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukan keseluruhan program pelaksanaan kurikulum muatan lokal dapat berjalan dengan baik, meskipun masih banyak kekurangan yang masih perlu dibenahi. Dengan demikian pengembangan kurikulum muatan lokal dapat memberikan dampak positif dalam pembelajaran sekolah modern (pondok pesantren) Al-Azhary Ajibrang Banyumas.

Applying the Higher Order Thinking Skills in Modern Islamic Boarding Schools in Indonesia: An Introspective Study of Programmed Educational Activities.

The Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren) was the oldest educational institution in Indonesia. From its ancient history, it is a community-based educational institution (community-based education which is established, organized and organized by society). After 1936, as a result of the development of Islamic boarding schools, it was divided into two parts: traditional, known as Salafism, and Modernism. Although Islamic boarding schools, known as "pesantren", are a well-established social reality in Indonesian society, they have not received much attention and government intervention to develop or empower them in government laws and regulations from its original inception to 1998. There are questions in this area: How does education in Islamic boarding schools look like? Has education applied contemporary educational methods and theories? Do the recently implemented Islamic boarding school teaching and learning processes apply higher thinking skills? How are higher thinking skills applied in Islamic boarding schools? The method in this research is a descriptive introspective analysis that will be discussed through inductive analysis on how to implement higher thinking skills by following the various activities carried out in Islamic boarding schools, from teaching and learning activities to the daily activities of students, through this discussion, the model of applying higher thinking skills in modern Islamic boarding schools and its advantages will be shown. The purpose of this study is to find out that the Islamic Awakening in all fields is the result of renewal of thought in Islam. Modern Islamic revival takes the form of the popularity of various aspects of Islamic culture. One example is the development of Islamic clothing and many women who wear closed clothes but do not cover their curves. Islamic revival also does not. This shift in the concept of society is one of the important foundations of Islamic political history in the following centuries. Previously, in the tribal system, the bonding aspect of the community unit was blood and descent; In the concept of Ummah, the main binding aspect is religious belief (Islam). To regain the glory of Islam, Muslims must face internal and external struggles against the Western world. The revival of Islamic civilization with new enthusiasm shows that there is an Islamic transformation that never stops from time to time. This process was marked by the growth of Islamic institutions which were not only carried out by the government and Islamic organizations, but also by new Muslim groups that had existed before. On the socio-political stage itself, Islam has found momentum to emerge with its "new style" in various aspects of life, including education, politics, economy, and socio-culture. The method in this study used the method (library research) by collecting a number of literature relating to the problem and research objectives. Data collection with the results of previous research which supports data on research on Islamic civilization during the revival period.

Fazlur Rahman Perspective On The Science Concept

Islam requires every male and female Muslim to learn knowledge from birth to death. This is because, with science, Muslims can maintain their mandate as a caliph well. Without science, then the world will quickly break down, and man may not know how to return to his Rabb. The consequence is that acquiring knowledge must be based on a love of God and merely as a form of glorifying the greatness of His name. Fazlur Rahman, a modern scholar, finally succeeded in formulating the building of Modern Islamic Science without any scientific dichotomy. Therefore, exploring the concept of science in the point of view of fazlur rahman will greatly help the development of science itself, especially in today's modern context. The literature approach is the right choice to get the targets to be achieved related because it can accumulate information from various articles that can become a basis for information as well as material for analysis. The results showed that for Fazlur Rahman, science is knowledge obtained through learning, and the way to get it is by observation and experimentation involving the roles of the senses, reason, and heart. Then the source of knowledge for Fazlur Rahman comes from Allah Almighty with the intercession of the Qur'an, Hadith, and recorded history. The function of science is to enforce a just social system and provide solutions to the growing problems of the people.

Interpretation of the Quranic verse “al-Qiwamah” (“Guidance in the family”) by Islamic modernists

In Islam, in family relations, special attention is paid to the issue of leadership in the family, called in the Quran by the term “al-qiwamah”. This is due to the fact that leadership or headship in the family is the basis for establishing the nature of the relationship between husband and wife in Islam, since various issues of such relationships somehow come from the issue of “leadership”. Leadership in family relations, due to the arbitrariness of its concept and application, became the subject of a dispute between spouses, and became one of the main reasons for disagreements and divorces in the modern era. The present work analyzes the interpretation (tafsir) by Islamic modernists such as Jamal al-Banna (1920–2013), Nawal al-Sa‘dawi (1931–2021), Muhammad Shahrur (1938–2019) and Nasr Hamid Abu-Zaid (1943–2010) of the ayah “al-qiwamah” (“guidance in the family”) (4:34) [1, c. 83], set forth in their writings. Their approach is compared to the treatment of the representative of conservative and traditional theologians of Islam Muhammad-Sa‘id Ramadan al-Buti (1929–2013). Modernists believed that both men and women were entitled to the role of a leader in family relations, but they disagreed about the interpretation of the Quranic ayah “al-qiwamah” up to the complete rejection of the concept of leadership in family relations.

Penguatan Budaya Literasi di Pondok Pesantren El Karim Cibuah Warunggunung Lebak Banten Melalui Gerakan Literasi

Banten as a province, is also known as an area with the nickname " Seribu Kyai Sejuta Santri". The nickname is inseparable from the reality of the existence of Islamic boarding schools that are growing in large numbers in the province of Banten. Starting from traditional boarding schools to modern boarding schools. Pesantren is an institution that provides religious education services. On the Pondok Pesantren Database page released by the Directorate of Islamic Boarding School Education (DITPDPONTREN), the Ministry of Religion, R.I. it is stated that the total number of pesantren in Banten province is 4,579 pesantren. Pesantren not only teach religious education but also life education so that students are able to become independent individuals when they leave the pesantren. As mentioned earlier, the existence of many Islamic boarding schools and the activeness of these institutions in providing religious education services has a linear line with the religious pattern of the people who are known to be religious fanatics. Even so, this linear line does not apply to literacy and writing cultures. Therefore, community service activities through strengthening literacy culture among students need to be carried out. Modern Islamic Boarding School El Karim Cibuah Warunggunung Lebak Banten was chosen as the location of the activity by looking at the availability of programs to be implemented which are in line with the program to strengthen literacy culture in Islamic boarding schools.

Islamism, the main stages of development: religious discourse

This article examines various aspects of the discourse of political Islam. Based on a meaningful analysis, the continuity of the international political Islamic discourse is shown. The conclusions obtained during the study are related to the sharp revival of political Islam in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Complex and diversified Islamism and Islamists, while maintaining continuity, have undergone significant changes over time. This was revealed because of the analysis of the main stages of the development of Islamism. Modern Islamism is a relatively young political ideology of Islam. In recent decades, the development of Islamism has been closely linked with the revival of Islam and the modernization of Muslim countries. Islamism is often defined as «politicized Islam» or «political Islam». Researchers draw attention to the fact that it is impossible to put an equal sign between Islam and Islamism, between religion and the political ideology that arose on its basis. Such an understanding of Islamism does not give a complete picture of it, because Islamism is not only a political, but also a social ideology and a certain way of life. At the same time, this article will also pay enough attention to the stages of the development of Islamism. Key words: Islamism, political Islam, discourse, society, state, continuity, Islamists.

The development and application of the zakat collection blockchain system

Zakat in Islam has historically been a vital institution in fulfilling religious needs and social welfare. Its effectiveness in medieval and modern Islam is evident. However, this institution is seemingly not without inefficiencies. Ineffectiveness distribution process and lack of transparency in the zakat management are commonly cited as key impediments (bin Khatiman et al., 2021). Blockchain is expected to solve these issues due to its ability to record and trace every transaction, allowing administrators to discharge their accountability to zakat stakeholders. Thus, this study intended to develop a zakat collection blockchain system with the aim to provide economical and integrated continuous real-time zakat transactions, transparency and traceability by developing smart contracts in zakat management. The study employed four stages of process based on waterfall model starting from the interview session and analyse of the standard operating procedure (SOP) on zakat collection in the Zakat Collection Centre or Pusat Pungutan Zakat-Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (PPZ-MAIWP). Then, design requirement specification (DRS) is employed after being reviewed and approved by PPZ-MAIWP. The results show that the development of blockchain in the zakat collection system could be eradicating extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity among the community in the country. The study contributes through a transparent and reliable environment for exchanging data and carrying out transactions through a decentralized digital ledger technology to record anything of value and as a result able to ensure transparency, reliability, trust ability and traceability of the zakat transactions.
