There are four skills for studying English: Reading, Listening, Speaking and writing. For administration students Speaking skill is really important to be mastered. The data show that there are many students get struggle for mastering speaking English. They only know how to write and answer the question in writing. Action Learning Strategy helps students to improve the speaking skill by applying the strategy in teaching learning process in the classroom. There are two phases for applying the Action Learning Strategy (ACA) in this research. The data were got from observation, interview, and Speaking skill test. The first phases from observations of the students. The result of observation showed Action Learning Strategy is recommended by students. The data from interviewing shows that there few of students brave to practice or speak in front of classroom. Most of students seldom to speak up in English and prefer wring than speaking. The first phase shows the students’ speaking skill ability score 70. At the second phase, by the observation and interview data showed that students more actively participate on discussion, practice speaking in front of the classroom and had good improvement on English Speaking skill. Applying Action Learning Strategy (ACA) in the teaching learning process on Speaking skill can improve students’ speaking ability for Hospital Administration Students at Institut Kesehatan Deli Husada Deli Tua.

What are Employers Looking for in Fresh Graduates in Nangarhar Province?

Afghanistan is a labour-abandoned country in which educated ones always tolerate unemployment; Nangarhar is a province where the workforce is more, whereas working opportunities are much more limited, so for a fresher to get their favourite job needs to strengthen their soft skills along with hard skills. If a fresher wants to get employers to hire them, they have to enhance their soft skills because soft skills are the basis for utilizing hard skills. Computer skills, English proficiency, Communication, and teamwork skills are highly emphasized by employers in Nangarhar province. This study aims to let fresh graduates know how to get their favourite jobs, what skills are important for them to enhance, and to get university students to focus on their soft skills along with their hard skills. This research is important for university students, graduates, academic centres and all organizations. This research guides graduate to enhance their important soft skills, which will help them in their favourite jobs. This research will get universities to focus on the soft skills of their students, which will give their graduates good job opportunities in the market. This study is conducted in the field. First, we targeted national and international organizations that employ more people; later on, I developed a questionnaire, collected data, and analyzed the data. As a consequence, employers in Nangarhar province emphasize communication skills, interview skills, English proficiency, and computer skills.

Students’ Mathematical Reflective Thinking Ability in Solving System of Linear Equations in Two Variables Problems

Mathematical reflective thinking ability is one of the higher-level abilities that can support other mathematical thinking skills. Therefore, ensuring students have good mathematical reflective thinking skills is essential. This study aimed to analyze students' mathematical reflective thinking skills (KBRMS) on the material of a two-variable linear equation system (SPLDV). This research approach is qualitative with a phenomenological type. Data collection techniques were carried out through reflective thinking skills tests and interviews. The study subjects were grade VIII junior high school students who had studied SPLDV material using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis techniques in this study are data reduction, data display, conclusions, and verification. This mathematical reflective thinking ability analysis is based on indicators of mathematical reflective thinking ability, namely reacting, elaborating, and contemplating. The results of this study show that students can master reacting and elaborating indicators when faced with problems they usually encounter. In contrast, for contemplating indicators, students still experience difficulties when faced with problems different from those traditionally exemplified, such as difficulties in understanding problems and determining the concept of the material used. Based on this, it is shown that students' mathematical reflective thinking skills have not been fulfilled optimally.

Through theoretical explanations, case studies, interactive discussions, and practical training, the program promotes school-enterprise cooperation, optimizes career planning, improves employment guidance and internship management, and ultimately achieves the goal of high-quality employment.

Assessing the Impact of a Job Interview Skills Training Course: Participants’ Perceptions and Outcomes

Job interview skills are essential for job seekers to secure employment. Effective training programmes can benefit individuals develop these skills and confidence required to succeed in job interviews. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a job interview skills training course conducted by the facilitator. The course was evaluated using a course evaluation form which assessed the facilitator's knowledge, preparation, and delivery of the course content, as well as the relevance and practicality of the course materials and activities. The results showed that the majority of participants found the course to be helpful, relevant, and easy to follow. The facilitator was also rated highly in terms of his knowledge, preparation, and delivery of the course content. On the contrary, some participants felt that there was not enough opportunity for interactive participation among the students. In summary, the findings suggest that the job interview skills training course was useful in improving participants' skills and knowledge related to job interviews.

Identifying Collaboration Skills Through Discovery Learning with A Contextual Approach

Passive learning results in low student collaboration skills and tends to be individualistic in chemistry. Discovery learning with a contextual approach is one solution to overcome this problem. This research aims to find out the improvement of students' collaboration skills through discovery learning with a contextual approach and can be one step to prepare students' adaptive collaboration skills in the future. This research is quantitative research with a sample of 69 students taken using random sampling technique. Data were collected using collaboration skills observation sheets, questionnaires, and interviews. The collaboration skills measured consist of 4 indicators, namely cooperation skills, communication skills, completing tasks, and commitment. Data analysis uses quantitative descriptive methods. The results of this research show that students' collaboration skills using discovery learning with a contextual approach increase at each meeting with an average of 79 collaboration skills (good category).

Patients’ expectations of primary health care from both patients’ and physicians’ perspectives: a questionnaire study with a qualitative approach

BackgroundPatients’ ideas, concerns, and expectations are three important concepts in consultation techniques. Limited studies on these concepts include responses from both health care providers and care recipients of the same consultation. Highlighting both perspectives provides an increased understanding of the consultation. This study aims to explore the perspectives of patients and health care professionals about patients’ expectations of primary health care during consultations with primary care physicians and compare the two sets of perspectives.MethodsA cross-sectional study. Patients (n = 113) and physicians (n = 67) from five primary health care centers completed a questionnaire after planned consultations. Their responses to open-ended questions about patients’ expectations, from patients’ and physicians’ perspectives were analyzed with qualitative content analyses.ResultsThe patients expected a personal journey, through the primary health care system where they were the subject of interest. A journey, with ready access to a health care provider followed by a consultation with the physician, medical measures administered, their outcomes discussed, and a plan developed for continued health care. The physicians observed patients’ expectations to concern the responsibilities placed on primary health care where patients were the object of interest. Patients’ short-term expectations were described in a similar way by both patients and physicians. Patients expressed their long-term expectations as more personal and interpersonal whereas physicians observed them from a more professional and organizational standpoint.ConclusionsPatients and physicians have different views of what patients expect of primary health care. While patients’ short-term expectations were perceived by physicians, their long-term expectations were not. Patients expected more of a personal journey through the primary health care system while physicians observed patients’ expectations to concern the responsibilities placed on primary health care. Identifying and meeting patients’ expectations is an important part of patient-centered care, and a better understanding of patients’ expectations is needed to improve health professionals’ consultation skills.

Parental strategies to promote theory of mind development in autistic children of color.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is characterized by an impaired ability to take other people's perspectives, which is known as theory of mind. However, little is known about how theory of mind exhibits itself in autistic children of color and how parents foster their child's developmental skills in communities of color. Two interviews were created to assess how parents appraise their child's developmental skills and help their child grow: a perspective-teaching interview and a general developmental skills interview. Four families participated in the study; three children were African American or mixed, while one had an Asian mother. Parents were asked how their child exhibited various developmental skills and how they helped their child with those milestones. Parents pointed at similar delays in theory of mind and other developmental skills, such as turn-taking and reading faces. They also provided similar strategies to teach those abilities, such as modeling and reinforcements. Several insights and common themes were found regarding autistic behaviors their children expressed and how those affected their parenting experiences. These findings allow for a better understanding of parents' experiences raising autistic children of color; future research could expand on their stories and create interventions tailored to these underrepresented communities.

Justice With Aloha: Police Interviews of Rape Victims in Hawaii

Rape is widespread across the United States, yet survivors often fear making police reports. Effective police interviews can reduce the re-traumatization of survivors and result in more useful reports. However, rape survivors (most frequently women) often have difficulty accessing procedural justice. Little is known about rape processing in Hawaii, especially from the police perspective. A sample of 887 sworn police officers from the major jurisdictions in Hawaii completed a quantitative survey that measured their knowledge of interview techniques, rape myth acceptance, number of rape cases, degree of collaboration with victim advocates, and specialized training. Results indicated that low rape myth acceptance, greater amounts of specialized training, indicators of a positive agency culture, more extensive collaboration with victim advocates, higher rank, and greater experience with rape cases were positively related to interview skill. Female gender did not emerge as a significant contributor to interviewing skill. Implications of this study include the need for: training to counter specific myths, improvement of collaboration with victim advocates, careful screening of police officers assigned to conduct victim interviews, better training to respond to survivors with disabilities, and the development of a work culture supportive to citizens reporting rape.

Assessing Residents in the Department of Surgery at a Tertiary Care Centre Using Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercise (Mini-CEX).

This study aimed to introduce, sensitize, and train our postgraduate students and faculty of the department of general surgery with the use of mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercise (mini‑CEX) and to assess the perception of students and faculty towards it. A cross‑sectional observational study was conducted over a period of four months. Ten surgery residents in the department were asked to volunteer to participate and five professors conducted the session. Five sessions of mini‑CEX(nine points) were conducted for each resident in different settings of the out‑patient department (OPD) and in‑patient department (IPD). A total of five skills were tested. Feedback from faculty and residents regarding the perception of mini‑CEX was alsotaken. A statistically significant difference in mean scores of all domains was observed comparing the first and last assessment (p<0.05). Hundred percent of the residents scored superior category (7-9) in the final assessment in all domains, whereas the maximum was in a satisfactory scoring grade in 1st assessment. The time taken for the assessment significantly reduced from 1st assessment to the last assessment in OPD and IPD settings (p=0.001). The mini-CEX assessment tool got 100% feedback from faculty in terms of skill improvement, method, attitude of residents, and ability to identify gaps in knowledge. However, one assessor thought that "time given for assessment" was inadequate and more effort was required than the usual traditional assessment methods. The most identified problem faced by residents was that the "time given during assessment" was less (50%); however, overall residents also found it valid, effective, and helpful in identifying knowledge gaps and improving clinical and communication skills. Mini‑CEX improves the learning environment in residency and also leads to improvement in medical interviewing skills, physical examination skills, humanistic qualities/professionalism, and counseling skills. So, it can be used for residency training in clinical departments.

Causes and Effects of COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy Among Pregnant Women and its Association with Adverse Maternal, Placental, and Perinatal Outcomes.

Populations identified to be severely affected by COVID-19, such as pregnant patients, require special consideration in vaccine counseling, access, and provider education. Maternal infection with COVID-19 poses a significant risk to the maternal-fetal dyad with known adverse placenta destruction [1-5]. Despite the widespread access and availability of vaccinations, vaccine hesitancy continues to persist and is highly prevalent in pregnant populations [6-9]. Addressing the multitude of social ecological factors surrounding vaccine hesitancy can aid in providing holistic counseling [10]. However, such factors are foremost shaped by maternal concern over possible fetal effects from vaccination. While changes in policy can help foster vaccine access and acceptance, increasing global provider education and incorporation of motivational interviewing skills are the first steps towards increasing maternal acceptance.

Mapping Success: Quantifying Youth Satisfaction in the Work Readiness Program of Additional Skill Acquisition Programme

Additional Skill Acquisition Programme Kerala (ASAP Kerala) is a Government Company formed with a great vision to curb the unemployment problem of youth in Kerala by identifying the skill gaps and providing them with skill training to enhance their employability skills. ASAP’s Work Readiness Programme is designed to improve the interview skills of an applicant and therefore he/ she can confidently present his/her thoughts before an interview panel. The researcher tries to find the answers to the question “How satisfied are participants with the overall quality of the Work Readiness Programme?” And “Is there any significant difference in the satisfaction level of the Work Readiness program between male and female respondents? To provide the solution, the following objectives were set: to examine the satisfaction of youth towards the Work Readiness Programme and to analyse any significant difference in the training satisfaction of male and female participants. Both descriptive and analytical research designs were used. Primary Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from the program’s beneficiaries. The study used the Training Satisfaction scale developed by Holgado Tello et al.to collect data. Various statistical tools like percentage analysis, mean score, and Mann- Whitney U test were used for analysis. To perform analysis researcher used SPSS statistics. Exploring the REIT architecture for requirements elicitation interview training with robotic and virtual tutors

Requirements elicitation interviews are a widely adopted technique where the interview success depends on the interviewer’s preparedness and communication skills. Students can enhance these skills through practice interviews. However, organizing practice interviews for many students presents scalability challenges, given the time and effort required to involve stakeholders in each session. To address this, we propose REIT, an extensible architecture for Requirements Elicitation Interview Training system leveraging technologies such as robots and voice systems. REIT has components to support both the interview phase, wherein students act as interviewers while the system assumes the role of an interviewee, and the feedback phase, during which the system assesses students’ performance and offers contextual and behavioral feedback to enhance their interviewing skills. We demonstrate the applicability of REIT through two implementations: RoREIT with a physical robotic agent and VoREIT with a virtual voice-only agent. We empirically evaluated both instances with a group of graduate students. The participants appreciated both systems. They demonstrated higher learning gain when trained with RoREIT, but they found VoREIT more engaging and easier to use. These findings indicate that each system has distinct benefits and drawbacks, suggesting that educators can customize REIT for various settings, considering preferences and available resources.

Performance in Irish Selection and Future Performance in Surgical Training

Selection processes for surgical training should aim to identify candidates who will become competent independent practitioners and should aspire to high standards of reliability and validity. To determine the association between measured candidate factors at the time of an Irish selection and assessment outcomes in surgical training, examined via rate of progression to Higher Specialist Training (HST), attrition rates, and performance as assessed through a multimodal framework of workplace-based and simulation-based assessments. This retrospective observational cohort study included data from all successful applicants to the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) national Core Surgical Training (CST) program. Participants included all trainees recruited to dedicated postgraduate surgical training from 2016 to 2020. These data were analyzed from July 11, 2016, through July 10, 2022. Selection decisions were based on a composite score that was derived from technical aptitude assessments, undergraduate academic performance, and a 4-station multiple mini-interview. Assessment data, attrition rates, and rates of progression to HST were recorded for each trainee. CST performance was assessed using workplace-based and simulation-based technical and nontechnical skill assessments. Potential associations between selection and assessment measures were explored using Pearson correlation, logistic regression, and multiple linear-regression analyses. Data were available for 303 trainees. Composite scores were positively associated with progression to HST (odds ratio [OR], 1.09; 95% CI, 1.05-1.13). There was a weak positive correlation, ranging from 0.23 to 0.34, between scores and performance across all CST assessments. Multivariable linear regression analysis showed technical aptitude scores at application were associated with future operative performance assessment scores, both in the workplace (β = 0.31; 95% CI, 0.14-0.48) and simulated environments (β = 0.57; 95% CI, 0.33-0.81). There was evidence that the interpersonal skills interview station was associated with future performance in simulated communication skill assessments (β = 0.55; 95% CI, 0.22-0.87). In this study, performance at the time of Irish national selection, measured across technical and nontechnical domains in a multimodal fashion, was associated with future performance in the workplace and in simulated environments. Future studies will be required to explore the consequential validity of selection, including potential unintended effects of selection and ranking on candidate performance.

Motivational interviewing skills practice enhanced with artificial intelligence: ReadMI

BackgroundFinding time in the medical curriculum to focus on motivational interviewing (MI) training is a challenge in many medical schools. We developed a software-based training tool, “Real-time Assessment of Dialogue in Motivational Interviewing” (ReadMI), that aims to advance the skill acquisition of medical students as they learn the MI approach. This human-artificial intelligence teaming may help reduce the cognitive load on a training facilitator.MethodsDuring their Family Medicine clerkship, 125 third-year medical students were scheduled in pairs to participate in a 90-minute MI training session, with each student doing two role-plays as the physician. Intervention group students received both facilitator feedback and ReadMI metrics after their first role-play, while control group students received only facilitator feedback.ResultsWhile students in both conditions improved their MI approach from the first to the second role-play, those in the intervention condition used significantly more open-ended questions, fewer closed-ended questions, and had a higher ratio of open to closed questions.ConclusionMI skills practice can be gained with a relatively small investment of student time, and artificial intelligence can be utilized both for the measurement of MI skill acquisition and as an instructional aid.

Moving on from the Consultation Model to the Consent Model in Canada

The legal duty to consult in Canada is changing, as, despite this duty, Indigenous Peoples feel their ability to protect their resources in decision-making processes remains constrained. Currently, Indigenous Peoples are considered equivalent stakeholders when rather, they are self-determining Nations. Serious negative consequences result when meaningful consultation is not practiced. The consent model can aid in achieving reconciliation as a country, but challenges must be overcome. This paper discusses the differences between consultation and consent as understood from the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the findings of a small-scale literature review, and personal communications with subject matter experts. It presents the impacts that the legal duty to consult has on Indigenous Peoples in Canada and advocates for the consent model. Developing the consultation skills of engineering students will improve future outcomes for Indigenous communities and the engineering profession; therefore, this topic is important for engineering educators.

Refugee school consultation effects on teacher self-efficacy, self-care, and peer consultation skills.

Guided by a participatory culture-specific consultation model, this study contributes to an understanding of the effectiveness of school consultation with teachers of refugee students. The goal of the present study was to determine the impact of an individual consultation intervention with refugee teachers on their self-efficacy and self-care, in addition to their peer consultation skills. The participants were 109 teachers at refugee schools in Malaysia, most of whom were refugees (91% refugees; 73% female). Of the 109 participants, 84 teachers were coconsultants with psychology graduate students; all 109 were individual consultees. The study used a two-timepoint design with the outcomes of self-reported teacher self-care; teacher self-efficacy in the management of refugee student emotion regulation and emotional engagement; and consultation skills. Additionally, consultee-reported goal attainment, consultation effectiveness, and satisfaction were collected. The findings suggested significant latent growth from baseline to post-intervention in refugee teacher self-care and self-efficacy in the management of student emotion regulation and emotional engagement in addition to the growth of their consultation skills. The effect sizes were large for latent growth of teacher self-efficacy in promoting student emotion regulation, behavior, and emotional engagement (d = 1.19, 1.01, 1.02); the effect size for self-care was medium (d = .62). Growth was not dependent on dosage, age, gender, or consultee education, with the exception of teacher self-efficacy in management of emotional engagement which was dependent on dosage. After the intervention, the consultees reported that they completed their consultation goals at a higher level than expected, were satisfied with the consultation, and found the consultants to be helpful. Using a virtual reality interview simulator to explore factors influencing people’s behavior

Virtual reality interview simulator (VRIS) is an effective and valid tool that uses virtual reality technology to train people’s interview skills. Typically, it offers candidates prone to being very nervous during interviews the opportunity to practice interviews in a safe and manageable virtual environment and realistic settings, providing real-time feedback from a virtual interviewer on their performance. It helps interviewees improve their skills, reduce their fears, gain confidence, and minimize the cost and time associated with traditional interview preparation. Yet, the major anxiety-inducing elements remain unknown. During an interview, the anxiety levels, overall experience, and performance of interviewees might be affected by various circumstances. By analyzing electrodermal activity and questionnaire, we investigated the influence of five variables: (I) Realism; (II) Question type; (III) Interviewer attitude; (IV) Timing; and (V) Preparation. Considering the anxiety, overall experience, and performance of the interviewees, we found that Question type plays a major role; secondly, Realism, Preparation, and Interviewer attitude all have middle influence; lastly, Timing has little to no impact. Specifically, professional interview questions elicited a greater degree of anxiety than personal ones among the categories of interview questions. This work contributes to our understanding of anxiety-stimulating factors during job interviews in virtual reality and provides cues for designing future VRIS.

A comparative analysis of student, educator, and simulated parent ratings of video-recorded medical student consultations in pediatrics

BackgroundSimulation-based education (SBE) affords learners opportunities to develop communication skills, including those related to pediatrics. Feedback is an integral part of SBE, and while much research into feedback from multiple sources exists, the findings are mixed. The aim of this comparative study was to replicate some of this work in a novel area, pediatric medical education, to better understand how multisource feedback (self, educator, and simulated parent) may inform learning and curriculum design.MethodsDuring their pediatric rotation, medical students participated in a consultation with a simulated parent, engaged in video-assisted self-reflection, and received feedback from both an educator and the simulated parent through an e-learning platform. The Pediatric Consultation Skills Assessment Tool (PCAT) was used for self-assessment and educator feedback, and the Consultation and Relational Empathy (CARE) measure was used for simulated parent feedback.ResultsOur results showed that high-performing students underrated their performance, and low-performing students overrated their performance. Feedback from multiple sources helps to identify both areas of weakness in student performance and areas of weakness in student self-appraisal. Overall, general areas of weakness identified for the learners related to making contingency plans and providing easy-to-understand explanations for simulated parents. Some simulated parent feedback did not align with educator and student ratings, highlighting the value of including the simulated parent perspective. Our findings question whether a third party can reliably judge the simulated parent’s level of understanding.ConclusionMultisource feedback allows students to develop layered insights into their performance and supports self-appraisal. Aggregating feedback through an e-learning platform allows educators to gain greater insights into the strengths and weakness of students and design a more tailored teaching plan to support student needs.
