Informal Public Spaces: Typology of Coffee Shop Facades in Makassar City

Coffee shops have a major influence on the life of the Makassar city community in terms of improving life support. The prevalence and growth of coffee shops continues to be long lasting. This development continues to emerge in various forms or views of various buildings. This research project is a qualitative, phenomenological study using participant observation, open interviews and Bogdan and Taylor model documentation. In addition, the data analysis method is inductive in analyzing the ongoing process of the phenomenon and analyzing the meaning behind the information. The purpose of this study was to determine, identify, verify and analyze the typology of the coffee shop facade in Makassar. The results of this study show that different types of coffee shops in Makassar can be found. There are coffee shops with building facades equipped with convenient and safe infrastructure, interior views with an architectural concept coupled with service facilities presenting a variety of menus. There are also buildings in the form of shop houses with priority building facilities and services offering a variety of different types of menus. Some coffee shops are located in a shop house or a house with simple facilities and services, food and drinks offered as is. Finally, there are semi-permanent or emergency coffee shops with both limited facilities and infrastructure.

Interior tumor views

Tumor Immunology Previous studies indicate that a high frequency of intratumoral neutrophils is associated with a poor clinical prognosis. Si et al. used microscopy and imaging techniques to examine how intratumoral interactions between tumor-associated neutrophils (TANs) and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) can affect TIL function. They localized functional cell subsets, which were then used to identify hotspots of TAN-TIL interactions within tumors. Some of these TANs had a distinct phenotype, and their physical association with TILs reduced antitumor functions of those TILs. Sci. Immunol. 4 , eaaw9159 (2019).

Multidimensional virtual reality-MVR method: a new method of visualization of multidimensional worlds

The paper presents a new, original method of multidimensional worlds’ visualization. It allows to present views of any dimension objects out of which it is possible to construct even the most complicated multidimensional virtual world on a computer screen. Due to this, it is possible to observe multidimensional worlds modeled in this way, analyze mutual relations between multidimensional objects, move between them and, most importantly, verify whether human brain is able to adapt to the perception of more than three-dimensional space. This paper presents example interior views of four-dimensional and five-dimensional labyrinths. It also presents results of the research performed on 97 IT students at the AGH University of Science and Technology. Students in total made 357 attempts to leave virtual four-dimensional and five-dimensional labyrinths, each having three difficulty levels. The method presented in this paper is sufficiently general to allow observation of objects in an n-dimensional space for any nge 3. Simultaneously, it is the natural extension of our reality perception because using this method for n=3 we obtain views known to us from our human experience from the three-dimensional space.

Los dibujos inéditos de José Gómez de Navia para la colección de vistas del Monasterio del Escorial, y los grabados de la calcografía real

<p>Entre la importante producción de la efímera Calcografía Real existe una magnífica serie de doce grabados que representan vistas exteriores e interiores del Monasterio de El Escorial. Los dibujos que sirvieron para hacer las planchas fueron realizados por José Gómez de Navia y hasta ahora se consideraban perdidos. Sin embargo, diez de ellos firmados se encuentran en una colección particular en Valencia, siendo esta la primera vez que se publican y estudian. En estos dibujos se aprecia la gran delicadeza y la técnica pulcra y detallada, casi de miniaturista, de su autor. El hallazgo nos ha permitido comparar los originales y los grabados –en particular la serie que custodia la Biblioteca Nacional de España–, y comprobar los cambios introducidos por el buril, y también destacar la importancia que la serie calcográfica tuvo en la evolución de la iconografía del Monasterio.</p>

Unsteady Flow and Structural Behaviors of Centrifugal Pump under Cavitation Conditions

Cavitation has a significant effect on the flow fields and structural behaviors of a centrifugal pump. In this study, the unsteady flow and structural behaviors of a centrifugal pump are investigated numerically under different cavitation conditions. A strong two-way coupling fluid-structure interaction simulation is applied to obtain interior views of the effects of cavitating bubbles on the flow and structural dynamics of a pump. The renormalization-group k-ε turbulence model and the Zwart–Gerbe–Belamri cavitation model are solved for the fluid side, while a transient structural dynamic analysis is employed for the structure side. The different cavitation states are mapped in the head-net positive suction head (H-NPSH) curves and flow field features inside the impeller are fully revealed. Results indicate that cavitating bubbles grow and expand rapidly with decreasing NPSH. In addition, the pressure fluctuations, both in the impeller and volute, are quantitatively analyzed and associated with the cavitation states. It is shown that influence of the cavitation on the flow field is critical, specifically in the super-cavitation state. The effect of cavitation on the unsteady radial force and blade loads is also discussed. The results indicate that the averaged radial force increased from 8.5 N to 54.4 N in the transition progress from an onset cavitation state to a super-cavitation state. Furthermore, the structural behaviors, including blade deformation, stress, and natural frequencies, corresponding to the cavitation states are discussed. A large volume of cavitating bubbles weakens the fluid forces on the blade and decreases the natural frequencies of the rotor system. This study could enhance the understanding of the effects of cavitation on pump flow and structural behaviors.

Henry or John O'Hara, the best short story writers have one thing in common: The stories they write are the kind only they write. What accounts for this is the singular voice of the storyteller. If we regard the novella as the short story writer's long form, then the opening sentence of Porter's Pale Horse, Pale Rider can be said to demonstrate this: "Her heart was a stone lying upon her breast outside of her; her pulses lagged and paused, and she knew that something strange was going to happen, even as the early morning winds were cool through the lattice, the streaks of light were dark blue and the whole house was snoring in its sleep." Now consider this opening paragraph of Richard Burgin's story "The Spirit of New York": I scare people, usually women, I admit. I don't hurt them, or even wish to; I simply jump out at them, or suddenly appear from a corner or doorway or from behind a parked car or tree. After they gasp or scream I apologize profusely and try to calm them down. I do it so they think it could have been an accident. Almost immediately I feel remorse and hope they forgive me, but it's also true I feel tremendous pleasure. Porter's sentence and Burgin's paragraph are completely unalike except for one thing: The tone of the telling compels one to keep on reading. The 25 stories gathered in A Thousand Natural Shocks: Selected Stories by Richard Burgin provide ample evidence that Burgin deserves to be numbered among the masters of the short story. Together they offer an interior view of contemporary life, since what the stories are mostly about is what [End Page 302] is going on inside the heads of the protagonists. "The Urn" is told in the second person. Barry's mother has recently died and left him a fortune. He goes to London and then Madrid, where he begins carrying the urn bearing his mother's ashes around with him, "in part to share what was beautiful in the city, in part just for the company." That's when the second-person singular kicks in: You remember that you started talking to yourself in your mind, then, the way you are now in New York, never calling yourself "Barry" but addressing yourself in the second person instead. Between talking to yourself and talking to your mother it got pretty complicated sometimes. . . . You were afraid to be away from the urn . . . and carried it everywhere with you, once even to a bar. Then you worried that you'd drink too much and leave it in the bar or else on the metro. This is all passing strange, of course, and things get stranger and scarier as the story continues, but Barry's quasi-rational matter-of-factness will proceed at an even tempo throughout, which makes everything just creepier. Speaking of creepy, Barry reappears in Burgin's novel Rivers Last Longer, where he malevolently blossoms into probably the creepiest character in American fiction since Charles Anthony Bruno in Patricia Highsmith's Strangers on a Train. Not all of the stories are grim or weird. "Vivian and Sid in Maui" is a quirkily touching tale of the love that bonds the title characters in spite of their differences—as Vivian puts it, Sid is "a kind of permanent nontenured lecturer at the same university in Boston where I got tenure nine years ago." And "Caesar" moves from an angry encounter with a cab driver to a scary encounter in a hotel room to an act of charity that leaves the title character feeling "good . . . in a peaceful sort of way, like sitting next to a fireplace would feel, he imagined, where your thoughts finally settle and slowly melt"—a consummation devoutly wished, it would seem, by many of Burgin's characters. Recurrent gestures

AbstractUsing recurrent gestures as the model, this essay considers how an inside-looking-out view of speech-gesture production reflects the interactive-social exterior. The inside view may appear to ignore the social context of speaking and gesture, but this is far from the truth. What an exterior view sees as important appears in the interior but in a different way. The difference leads to misunderstandings of the interior view and what it does. It is not a substitute for the exterior. It is the interior reflecting the social exterior and shaping it to fit its own demands. Topics are: recurrent gestures; gesture-speech co-expressivity; expunged real-world goals; “in-betweenness”; phenomenological “inhabitance” and material carriers; metaphoricity and imagery; social deixis and social relations; realizations of the self; world-views; and lastly the want of mutual outside and inside intellectual perceptions and what can be done about it.

A Participation Architecture to Support User Peripheral Participation in a Hybrid FOSS Community

Participation by product users is critical to success in free, open-source software (FOSS) software communities as they originate and develop valuable ideas for product innovation that are unlikely to originate from the core software development community. Users tend to be involved at the periphery of FOSS communities, suggesting new product ideas, highlighting problems with user documentation, or explaining when the product design fails to fit with the needs of their local user application domain. As an increasing number of FOSS projects employ a hybrid participation model that combines volunteer effort with paid software development effort or product support, it can be difficult for non-developer users to participate in product innovation. In colocated organizations, it is theorized that peripheral participants learn how to engage with the practices and cultural identity of a community through a sociocultural apprenticeship known as legitimate peripheral participation. But we have little literature that explores how legitimate peripheral participation is enabled in online communities. The research study presented in this article explores how participation by peripheral users in a hybrid FOSS project is afforded by participation architecture channels and community mechanisms that mediate two forms of engagement: a “cognitive apprenticeship” that introduces participants to situated domain activity, such as the community processes involved in product innovation, and a “social apprenticeship” by which participants become enculturated in the system of meanings, values, norms, and behaviors that govern community/participant identity. We identified five stages of community innovation, analyzing sociotechnical affordances of the online participation architecture that enable peripheral participants to internalize the meanings of community practice and to develop a social identity within the FOSS community. Our contribution to theory is provided by the substantive explanation of the cognitive and social translations that enable legitimate peripheral participation in online communities, mediated by sociotechnical access channels and mechanisms that afford two contrasting forms of opportunities for action: those resulting from interactions between a goal-oriented actor and the technology platform features or channels of participation, and those associated with the social structures, roles, and relationships underpinning community interactions. Neither of these is sufficient without the other. Our contribution to practice is provided by an explanation of how four distinct categories of affordance provide these cognitive and social apprenticeship benefits, allowing participation architecture designers to cater to all forms of peripheral user participation. We conclude that the technical affordances of a typical FOSS community participation architecture are insufficient to mediate peripheral participation by nontechnical users. Meaningful participation is mediated by interactions between boundary spanners who play knowledge-brokering and organizational bridging roles. The combination of technical and social affordances enables peripheral participants to acquire an interior view of community practices and social culture and in turn to introduce new ideas, new values, and new rationales to produce a generative dance of innovation that percolates through the community.

New genus of subfamily Cypridopsinae Kaufmann, 1933 (Crustacea: Ostracoda) from Thailand

The new genus Thaicypridopsis gen. nov. described here belongs to the tribe Zonocypridini Higuti & Martens, 2012 in the subfamily Cypridopsinae Kaufmann, 1900. It is the first record of the Recent representatives within this tribe in Southeast Asia and Oriental regions. Thaicypridopsis gen. nov. has a number of remarkable characters that distinguish it from other genera in the subfamily: a submarginal row of distinctive tubercles on the postero-ventral part of the right valve in the interior view, a strong serrated claw G2 on the second antenna with an apical concavity, large bristles with hirsute endings and spatula-shaped apexes on all three maxillular endites and a bifurcate tip on the terminal claw of the second thoracopod. One new species, Thaicypridopsis longispinosa sp. nov., is described under this new genus in the present contribution. Apart from the above diagnostic characters, the new species also has long spines on the valve surface as its outstanding feature. The new taxon is morphologically compared with other related species and genera within and outside the subfamily Cypridopsinae. In addition, due to the new genus belonging to a group of genera with the left valve overlapping the right valve in the subfamily, a key to the genera within this group is given.

Between the Studio and the Salon: The Intimate Theatre of James Ensor’s Interiors

ABSTRACTIn the 1880s the Belgian artist James Ensor painted a number of interiors that map out a geography of the home and its compelling discourses of public and private, gender and class, intimacy and interiority. Some of these interiors observe with direct, realist regard the Ensor family salon, a space then allied with the feminine sphere and middle-class values, where the artist, his sister, mother and aunt can be seen performing the rituals, decorum and tedium of petit bourgeois life. Later in the decade, Ensor transforms these interior views into theatre-like stages with tilting floors and wings filled with puppet figures, props, costumes, instruments, and masks. Merging the studio with the salon and observation with artifice, these later interiors serve as spaces of performance where Ensor gives form to his subjectivity and imagination while also engaging in social commentary and critique. This essay will examine the intimate theatre of Ensor’s interiors and the social and symbolic meaning and expressive potential that he found in this exchange between body and place, studio and salon.

The development of modern dance and many art events of modern dance especially in Yogyakarta, which the largest are Gatsby Dance Competition is held once a year, and United Dance World, held every two years, the main attraction of modern dance lovers community to creation and develop themselves. In addition, the modern dance community in Yogyakarta who have limited space and want a complete facilities, as well as comfort in doing activities, the purpose of this scheme is to make the concept of a platform for modern dance community in Yogyakarta with a view shape of the building that expresses movement of modern dance. Design issues are: how to realize the visual appearance of the building to express the movement of modern dance into the building design of Modern Dance Center. Characteristics are taken, namely the dynamic character embodied through order to see the buildings and mass; aesthetic character is realized through the interior view of the building, wall elements, and mass composition; and the contrast of the characters is realized through the whole mass. The method used is the method of architectural design. The present paper analyzes the spatial composition with the theme and layout of the Christian paintings focusing on the relationship between the tomb and the paintings in the Chora Church's parekklesion (Fig. 1). The Chora Church's parekklesion consists of a single nave with an apse and a dome that is located on the north-south axis of the naos' dome (the dashed line in the lower left image in Fig. 2), and contains Christian paintings throughout the walls and ceiling. Four arcosolia serve as tombs in the parekklesion. The tomb of the Chora Church's founder in the fourteenth century, Theodore Metochites, which should be a primary focal point in the church, is located outside the north-south axis of the domes. The importance of his tomb is unclear due to its architectural aspect. However, the layout of the paintings presumably gives meaning to the holy religious space where the founder's tomb connects to the dome above, where “The Virgin Beseeches” is depicted, and to the apse, where “The Salvation of Christ” is represented. This paper is a continuation of our preceding one and describes how the layout of the paintings of the Chora Church gives meaning to the architectural space. This church has enormous implications for determining how a holy space was constructed. Interior elevations, an interior view of the ceiling, a photomontage, a section of the northwestern tomb, a photomontage, and an axonometric drawing of the parekklesion are created, and the spatial composition with the theme and layout of the paintings is analyzed, focusing on the Old Testament prefigurations of the Virgin, the representation of “Heaven” in the “Last Judgment,” and the location of Theodore Metochites' tomb. In the Chora Church's parekklesion, the paintings of the Old Testament stories positioned clockwise from the southern wall's (1) “Bearing of the Ark of the Covenant” to the northern wall's (9) “Moses and the Burning Bush” are prefigurations of the Virgin (Arrow 1 in Fig. 5). “The Virgin Beseeches” is represented in the domed bay (Fig. 4 and Arrow 2 in Fig. 5). The soul of Theodore Metochites, who is assumed to have been buried in the tomb of the northern wall under the dome, invoking “The Salvation of Christ” in the earthly world, is presented for “Last Judgment” by the angel in the painting (Arrows 3 and 4 in Fig. 5) and enters “Paradise” (painted on the northern wall with the Elect) (Arrow 5 in Fig. 5) without falling to “Hell,” which is painted on the southern wall. Furthermore, the “Resurrection” is placed on the apse over this area (Arrow 6 in Fig. 5). Therefore, Theodore Metochites’ prayer is represented in the holy space where his tomb connects to the dome above, and to the apse. The fact that the passageway from the parekklesion to the Naos was constructed during renovation of the Chora Church is not the reason why Theodore Metochites' tomb is located outside the north-south axis of the domes. His tomb is located in the domed bay where “The Virgin Beseeches” is depicted with the Old Testament paintings positioned clockwise on the southern and northern walls, adjoining the doorway to the naos, which is the center of the entire church, and connecting with “Heaven” after the “Last Judgment” and “Resurrection.” It does, however, establish a three-dimensional Byzantine religious space with the Christian paintings. In other words, the holy space was devised, integrating the architecture with paintings to represent Theodore Metochites’ prayer that invokes “The Virgin Beseeches” in the domed bay and the resulting “Salvation of Christ” as its accomplishment in the apse.

Lived space and geometric space: comparing people’s perceptions of spatial enclosure and exposure with metric room properties and isovist measures

ABSTRACTPast research in spatial psychology has demonstrated that some environmental properties can positively influence human emotions. While architectural designers have adopted these findings to argue for the positive psychological impact of specific spatial dimensions, there is limited evidence that people can intuitively assess the most basic properties of an interior. Furthermore, the computational–mathematical methods used to examine interior spatio-visual properties have only rarely been compared to human perceptions. Indeed, there is no evidence that two of the most basic spatial feelings – enclosure and exposure – correlate to any of the metric or isovist-based properties of space. In response, this paper presents the results of a study involving 159 participants who assessed 24 perspective views of virtual interiors for feelings of enclosure and exposure. These results are compared with the metric properties and isovist measures of these interiors to examine if human perceptions of a simple space are accurate and possess any direct correlation with isovist measures.

Rysunki Johanna Christiana Schreibera – toruńskiego artysty amatora z XVIII wieku

The collection of the State Archive in Torun, consisting of, among others, numerous 18th century topographical documents, includes also a number of drawings originating from the dispersed collection of Johann Jacob Haselau, born in Gdansk and educated in Leipzig, a humanist and pastor of the Old Town Lutheran Commune in Torun, where he lived from 1763. He joined the local Protestant intellectual elite displaying vast spiritual, intellectual and artistic interests, which included the clergy, the professors of local Academic Gymnasium and the journalists of Thornische Wochentliche Nachrichten und Anzeigen weekly. Pastor Haselau – a bibliophile and a collector – assembled an impressive library and a considerable quantity of maps, plans, illustrations and drawings, which in 1774 he had bound into an “artificial atlas”, named: Tabularum topographicarum secundum seriem alphabeticam dispositarum collectio quinque voluminibus comprehensa Thorunii . Four atlas volumes, including views and plans of towns and settlements arranged in alphabetical order from A to Z, have been preserved in the Torun Archive, while its fifth volume has disappeared and it is not known at present of what illustrations was its contents composed. A part of drawings and prints pertaining to Torun, inserted originally in volume four was cut out from it in 1914 for “better restoration” and is now kept in various portfolios in the archive. This group contains, among others, six city and interior views made by Johann Christian Schreiber, an amateur draughtsman, and a furrier by profession, baptized in Torun in 1766, who after apprenticeship in various distant locations returned to his home town. Haselau used to insert handwritten commentaries in various volumes and on particular drawings from his collection, which enable their identification nowadays; this is also the case of drawings made by Schreiber. The earliest of them, depicting the eastern side of Żeglarska street in Torun, was sketched by the author in 1783, when he was only seventeen years old. Five next images were drawn in 1785, presumably on a special request of the pastor, as they represent interior details of the church of his Lutheran congregation on the Old Market Square (now Roman Catholic church of the Holy Spirit). The drawings depict a general view of the interior, the main altar, the pulpit (twin view), and the baptismal font. Pastor Haselau must have been impressed by the young man’s talent, because he remarked twice in his comments that the illustrations were made by Schreiber without using a ruler, nor compass. Despite the fact that the sketches do not exhibit high artistic level, they may be regarded as a significant source for iconography and history of the town in the 18th century.

Penumbra is an important factor for three dimensional Computer Graphics in order to represent realistic images especially at interior views. Point light represents images with sharp-edge shadow that is far from reality. On the other hand, area light casts penumbra at the situation where occluders prevent some part of light area from reaching calculation points. Although path tracing and radiosity are technologies that handle area light, both of them take so enormous times for processing that they are not suitable to use at the stage of reviewing designs which are weighed with turnaround time. Therefore, this paper proposes a new high-speed algorithm that represents high resolution penumbra casted from psuedo area light by applying ray tracing that handles point light only. It is inevitable that the previous technologies, namely percentage closer filtering (PCF) and variance shadow maps (VSM), generate low quality penumbra because they are algorithms based on shadow maps that include aliasing problem. We name this new algorithm “light obstacle depth”. Light obstacle depth calculates intensity of shadow by point light at each calculation point at first and subsequently blends shadow around the calculation point according to the distance between the nearest occluder and the point. Ray tracing produces shadow with shading at a time which contains textures, reflection, transparency, and refraction, etc. However, light obstacle depth separates shadow calculation process from other shading process, calculates shadow intensity independently, stores them at each pixel to make shadow buffer, and at last combines the shadow buffer and other shading together after blending shadow buffer. Blending problems around occluders occur when we apply the basic blending technique, so we propose an enhanced blending technique to solve the problem. In addition, we show the equation that estimates blending area using size, direction, and distance of an area light simulated. We also propose a technique to estimate blending area on image with perspective transformation. To validate quality and speed of the new algorithm, we used two different types of models, namely a model with scattered polygons and a model crowded in small area. Compared with images generated accurately by area light, images by our new algorithm show that light obstacle depth is able to simulate penumbra of area light with practically sufficient quality. In terms of the calculation time, our new algorithm is capable to generate penumbra at almost the same time as point light calculation and several tens of times faster than normal area light calculation. Furthermore, we show that calculation speed of our new algorithm becomes more efficient for more complex data. We aim that light obstacle depth is processed using GPGPU (general purpose GPU) technology. As GPGPU processing is expected to be several tens of times acceleration, real time penumbra generation will come true after GPGPU application to light obstacle depth is realized.

L’intime conviction et les formes de croyance : de l’expérience au regard philosophique

The fundamental dimensions of personal convictions are to be considered from an anthropological perspective rooted in experience. Conviction is a certainty that is the result of a process. It brings all psychological functions to a stream of convincing proofs that have been accumulated amidst undercurrent doubts. It is interesting to invoke the thoughts of grand philosophers such as Kant concerning convictions and Descartes concerning beliefs. For, it is indispensable to distinguish beliefs that often fluctuate and belief. It is the problem of truth that is the focal point of belief (Kant). It can also be a form of knowledge from an etymological point of view. Jurists and practitioners distrust emotional and subjective beliefs. Whereas for Descartes and Kant and many other thinkers, belief is linked to the experience of a being searching to join the different facets of a principal recognized as universal. The personal aspect of a conviction is maybe what is the most profound. It is the interior view and language. It is the emergence of desire and the imaginary. Personal conviction develops in the context of an interior view of oneself and in one's own interior language. However, in this perspective of the profound being, the subject needs consciousness. It is a means to surpass the raw data of experience towards a world of sense (Henri Ey). Hence, we see that the thoughts on personal conviction bring us to depths on the subject in his conscious and unconscious dimensions.

On three new species of non-marine ostracods (Crustacea: Ostracoda)from Northeast Thailand.

Three new species of non-marine ostracods, Strandesia martensi n. sp., Strandesia pholpunthini n. sp. and Oncocypris rostrata n. sp., are here described from the Northeastern part of Thailand. Strandesia martensi n. sp. is similar to Strandesia perakensis Victor & Fernando, 1981 and to Strandesia sanoamuangae Savatenalinton & Martens, 2010. It can be distinguished from these two species by the presence of a large dorsal hump on both valves, large anterior overlapping, the general shape of valve, the ornamentation of valve surface and the markedly long proximal seta of caudal ramus. The main distinguishing characters of Strandesia pholpunthini n. sp. are the compression on the right valve at the posterior extremity and the fact that left valve overlaps right valve anteriorly, while right valve overlaps left valve posteriorly. This results in unequal anterior and posterior extremities, which can be seen clearly in the dorsal view. Oncocypris rostrata n. sp. is the first record of this genus in Thailand. It obviously differs from others in the beak-like anterior extremity in dorsal view, the valve structure in interior view, the valve ornamentation comprising of large pustules and large pits and the morphology of male reproductive organ, especially the first segment of the right prehensile-palp bearing a long apical spine and a large protrusion on the distal margin toward the second segment. A note on morphology, chorology and a key to the species of Oncocypris are given.

A Note on the Depiction of a Hoplite on a Sherd from Ashkelon

A recently published East Greek sherd from Ashkelon is said to depict a hoplite carrying a quiver against the exterior surface of his shield. Based on contemporary parallels on other Greek pottery, this brief note suggests that what is depicted is instead an interior view of the shield showing the hoplite's bent arm and hand supporting/carrying the shield.

Abstract Casting a proximate net across concurrent artistic, social and political activity in relation to the Puffin Picture books reveals a cultural codification that structured the creation of the populist, pedagogical and practical print practices that materalise in the books. In framing and forming a greater understanding around the circumstances of conception of the books has formed a complex multiplicity of interior views that at once supports, calibrates and challenges familiar early twentieth-century artistic and cultural narratives.
