Quick-look method and system for multi-domain space science experiment data

Space science experiment data contains huge application value. It is important to design methods and systems to have a quick look at the process of data processing. An integration framework is proposed in this paper. Several basic visual components are designed to support the quick look requirements of different types of data. The dynamic configuration mechanism of the visual view can effectively improve the scalability and user experience friendliness of the system. The method of the interactive layout of the front-end interface can make the visual effect of the page richer. It also supports the self-adaptation of the display screen with different resolutions. The dynamic registration mechanism for visual views ensures the synchronization of data display in multiple identical visual views. Finally, a quick-look system is implemented, which achieves the integration and quick look of multi-domain space science experiment data. The validity of the proposed system is verified by the practical application.

UiAnalyzer: Evaluating whether the UI of apps is at the risk of violating the design conventions in terms of function layout

There are many unofficial but widely accepted design conventions on the function layout of the user interface (UI) of apps, which include the position of functions and position relationship between functions. If an app fails to follow these design conventions, users may feel uncomfortable when using the app and this can negatively affect its market value. Unfortunately, no research is available to help app developers analyze whether the UI of their products is at the risk of violating the design conventions in terms of the function layout. To fill this gap, we propose a novel function layout analysis method called UiAnalyzer. This method compares the function layout of a UI with that of similar UIs to evaluate the acceptability of its function layout. Specifically, UiAnalyzer first generates semantic wireframes for the analyzed UI and similar UIs according to their function layout. Then, it extracts visual features from the semantic wireframes using a convolutional neural network and applies an anomaly detection algorithm to process the obtained visual features to determine whether the visual feature corresponding to the analyzed UI is anomalous. The experiment based on Google Play apps shows that UiAnalyzer is capable of evaluating the function layout of UIs of apps.

Research on information construction of university management system app based on cognitive model

Based on the results of interviews conducted with university students in a certain university in Yunnan Province, this study identifies the problems of excessive information navigation, complex interface layout, and difficulty in locating the school system within the university management system APP. From the perspective of information architecture, this study designs a cognitive model that is suitable for the university management system APP of a certain university in Yunnan Province. By conducting tracking surveys and interviews with students from different majors, the study utilizes the affinity diagram method to construct a cognitive model for student users, which is further categorized by involving 10 participants. The data obtained after categorization is analyzed using hierarchical cluster analysis, and the information construction of the university management system APP is restructured accordingly. Through experiments, the characteristics and existing problems of the informationization construction of the university management system APP are determined, and the navigation label information of the management system is improved. The cognitive model of the university management system APP is reconstructed, resulting in the development of navigation names and classification methods for information construction that align with the cognitive models of student users. The research findings provide a basis and reference for other university management system APPs.

In the era of intelligent information, various smart electronics have become a part of our lives. In the field of education, online education is becoming popular to fill the gap in educational fields such as schools. This study aims to analyze the UI design of educational apps for children's affordance and provide alternatives. To this end, an analysis framework centered on cognitive affordance, physical affordance, sensory affordance, and functional affordance was used among Harson's affordance theories. we organize the three main elements of app interface design: interface layout, icons/button, and color, and combine affordance theory with interface design to analyze the children's art education app interface. Through these improvements, it is expected that children will be able to use educational apps better and adapt to non-face-to-face classes.

Analisis Perbandingan User Experience pada Website dan Aplikasi Mobile Shopee Menggunakan UEQ

In the midst of technological developments that are always advancing, the internet is one of the things that makes life easier. The internet itself produces products that are useful for daily activities, for example websites and applications. These two products have many types of usage categories, one of which is e-commerce. E-commerce (electronic commerce) provides a different shopping experience for consumers. One of the e-commerce that is developing in Indonesia is Shopee. Shopee has 2 (two) versions, a mobile application and a website. In this case, of course, the layout of the user interface provided is definitely different. Different layouts certainly provide a different user experience. The purpose of this research is to analyze and evaluate user experience and to find out user perceptions and interaction problems experienced by users when using mobile applications and the Shopee website. This study uses 2 (two) research methods, namely user experience questionnaire and Focus Group Discussion. The results of this analysis show that the mobile application and Shopee website have significant values ​​for each parameter. Both Shopee platforms only have 4 (four) of the 6 (six) parameters that reach 0.8. This shows that the Shopee mobile application and the Shopee website have their own strengths and weaknesses in terms of user experience.

Developmental Study on "Smart Silver Care": A Mobile Application to Alleviate Loneliness in Older Adults within the Community.

Loneliness poses a significant threat to the quality of life of older adults. Therefore, it is essential to implement non-face-to-face services to solve the loneliness of older adults in the community. This study used the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model to develop mobile applications as a loneliness intervention for older adults living in the community. A mobile application was developed using the ADDIE model to alleviate loneliness in older adults living in the community. The development process included a systematic review, a face-to-face preference survey, and an experts' evaluation. From 11 to 15 June 2021, the following six databases were used to search for related articles: Ovid-Medline, Ovid-EMBASE, Cochrane Library, KISS, Korea Med, RISS. A preference analysis was conducted on 100 adults aged 65 or older living in the community from 15 July to 31 August 2021. A mobile application for community-dwelling older adults was developed. Its contents included emotional support, cognition, physical activity, health data, nutrition, and motivation. They were organized through a systematic review and preference survey in the analysis stage. They were also designed as main menus and sub-content at the design stage. They also designed the structure, functionality, and interface layout. The application was developed by integrating the designed content and determining the operating system, language, access method, privacy, and server history. Then, experts evaluated the validity of the application. The prototype mobile application incorporates emotional support, cognition, physical activity, health data, nutrition, and motivation. It is expected to help older adults achieve their goals by promoting participation. By incorporating expert validity into the content development process of early prototypes, we have improved the usability and acceptability of our products. Future pilot trials are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of this mobile application among older adults.

GUILGET: GUI Layout GEneration with Transformer

Sketching out Graphical User Interface (GUI) layout is part of the pipeline of designing a GUI and a crucial task for the success of a software application. Arranging all components inside a GUI layout manually is a time-consuming task. In order to assist designers, we developed a method named GUILGET to automatically generate GUI layouts from positional constraints represented as GUI arrangement graphs (GUIAGs). The goal is to support the initial step of GUI design by producing realistic and diverse GUI layouts. The existing image layout generation techniques often cannot incorporate GUI design constraints. Thus, GUILGET needs to adapt existing techniques to generate GUI layouts that obey to constraints specific to GUI designs. GUILGET is based on transformers in order to capture the semantic in relationships between elements from GUI-AG. Moreover, the model learns constraints through the minimization of losses responsible for placing each component inside its parent layout, for not letting components overlap if they are inside the same parent, and for component alignment. Our experiments, which are conducted on the CLAY dataset, reveal that our model has the best understanding of relationships from GUI-AG and has the best performances in most of evaluation metrics. Therefore, our work contributes to improved GUI layout generation by proposing a novel method that effectively accounts for the constraints on GUI elements and paves the road for a more efficient GUI design pipeline.

Is your mouse attracted by your eyes: Non-intrusive stress detection in off-the-shelf desktop environments

Increasing number of people work long hours with computers under high cognitive load. This could potentially cause mental stress in workplaces. Prolonged exposure to mental stress contributes to poor working experience and even severe health problems. Despite the growing demand, the existing intelligent stress detection methods are limited when applied to actual workplaces. They often measure physiological and physical signals, via intrusive devices, to detect stress. The intrusiveness hampers their accessibility and applicability in daily life and workplaces. To overcome that, behavior-based methods were proposed. Models that explore mouse and gaze behaviors during computer usages were demonstrated to be particularly effective. However, the current methods rely on using prior knowledge of the user interface (UI) layout to construct models. Their applicability thus is limited, especially in real workplaces where task UI is often dynamic. This paper presents a novel stress detection method to address the challenges. It attains non-intrusiveness and UI-agnostic by modeling the relative movement and coordination of mouse and gaze. The method is evaluated on a dynamic-UI task, namely, web searching. An accuracy of 78.8% is achieved using a commercial eye-tracker for gaze estimation, beating the state-of-the-art approaches by around 20%. We further use webcam to estimate gaze locations substituting for the eye-tracker, to enhance the model accessibility. The method yields 68.6% accuracy of stress detection without using any special devices. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of our method. It opens up a new avenue for cognitive-aware adaptive user interface, intelligent working environment, and related applications.

Identifying requirements of an IMU-based gait assessment interface for incomplete spinal cord injury through user-centred design approach

For most patients with an incomplete spinal cord injury, gait rehabilitation plays a key role in functional recovery. Gait is usually assessed by physiotherapists and rehabilitation physicians through observational analysis or by specialized personnel through laboratory gait analysis. However, observational analysis is prone to misjudgment, and laboratory analysis is complex and time-consuming. Inertial measurement units (IMUs) could be an interesting alternative to bring objective gait analysis closer to the actual healthcare providers. This article focuses on identifying the requirements of an IMU-based gait assessment interface for use in a clinical setting by rehabilitation physicians and physiotherapists. The design process consisted of four stages: (1) user research to identify physicians’ and physiotherapists’ needs and expectations, and the context wherein the system will be used; (2) analysing and interpreting user research results to collect insights and define the design vision; (3) conceptualization and evaluation of initial concepts for the layout of the gait assessment interface and visualization of the gait parameters; (4) developing and evaluating the initial design and prototype of the interface. Future research will need to be conducted to further develop the usability and functionality of the interface.

Research on the Optimization and Evaluation of Excavator Human-Machine Interface Layout Based on Situation Awareness

In order to solve the problem of a large number of types and complex layouts of control devices on the operator interface of mining excavators, and a large variety and number of control elements on the control panel, the layout optimization design is carried out by applying the theoretical model of situational awareness and the influencing factors to the layout design of the human-machine interface. The modularity of the interface and the hierarchy of the original components are divided, and the importance evaluation indicators established according to situational awareness are weighted according to the entropy weighting method, and then the results are combined with the VIKOR method to analyse the importance of the interface components and the control panel module respectively before the interface is optimised and designed. The results show that the application of situational awareness theory to HMI design can play an important role in enhancing the level of situational awareness of operators and meeting their needs.

Analysis of Hierarchical Grid Refinement Techniques for the Lattice Boltzmann Method by Numerical Experiments

Over the last few decades, several grid coupling techniques for hierarchically refined Cartesian grids have been developed to provide the possibility of varying mesh resolution in lattice Boltzmann methods. The proposed schemes can be roughly categorized based on the individual grid transition interface layout they are adapted to, namely cell-vertex or cell-centered approaches, as well as a combination of both. It stands to reason that the specific properties of each of these grid-coupling algorithms influence the stability and accuracy of the numerical scheme. Consequently, this naturally leads to a curiosity regarding the extent to which this is the case. The present study compares three established grid-coupling techniques regarding their stability ranges by conducting a series of numerical experiments for a square duct flow, including various collision models. Furthermore the hybrid-recursive regularized collision model, originally introduced for cell-vertex algorithms with co-located coarse and fine grid nodes, has been adapted to cell-centered and combined methods.

Optimization design of feed array structure for space-borne synthetic multi-beam antenna

To reduce the difficulty of engineering realization as much as possible on the premise of ensuring the performance of the feed network, a new design method of the multi-feed composite multi-beam antenna feed array is proposed. In the design process, the method of longitudinal subdivision and layering is used to solve the processing problem of complex large-scale electrical and small-sized devices. Then the multi-objective and multi-variable differential evolution algorithm is used to optimize the distribution position of each mounting hole to realize the optimal interface layout. The method is used to optimize the design of a multi-beam antenna feed array and the product object is produced and tested. The test results show the effectiveness of the design method. This method can be used to guide designers to carry out actual engineering design, shorten the design cycle, and improve the design quality.

Optimization of Interface layout of electrical equipment using Heuristic Algorithm

Facility Layout Problem(FLP) is a major matter in the process of human-machine interface(HMI) design, which has a direct impact on how well operators perform their duties. Electrical equipment, which controls the power system, has a direct impact on how safely the system operates. The current optimization techniques prioritize improving the equipment’s performance characteristics at the expense of user aspects. This work aims to apply heuristic algorithms that introduce cognitive psychology and adopt the layout principle as a constraint condition to solve this problem. The improved analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is used to conduct the optimal design practice of the HMI of electrical switching equipment, develop the optimization mathematical model, and quantify the subjective and objective layout principles. Comparing the optimization results reveals that the genetic algorithm’s optimization impact is superior and the ant colony algorithm’s iterative pace is faster. The HMI’s optimized design based on a heuristic algorithm can improve the usability of interface operation, and has a certain reference for the optimization design of HMI of electrical equipment.

Effects of design features of train electronic guidance interface on visual search, behavior, and usability

In urban rail trains, traditional printed guide information interfaces are being replaced by digital interfaces. An electronic guide screen is an important device for passengers to obtain information about the ride because the train is running underground. In particular, when the train is crowded, passengers must obtain information in advance and make appropriate decisions. Therefore, it is important to efficiently search for guidance interfaces. In this study, use scenarios of the guidance interface were simulated. The typical information layout and display mode in the current electronic guidance interface were the experimental variables. Through eye tracking and subjective evaluation, the effects of design features on user search performance, visual behavior, and usability satisfaction were discussed. The experimental results showed that the information layout and display mode of the guidance interface had an interactive effect on the task completion time, fixation counts, and usability score; they also had a significant effect on the recall accuracy and saccade ratio. Task completion time had a strong positive correlation with usability satisfaction and was correlated with visual behavior. The study confirmed that the split-screen display mode combined with interlaced layout could improve search performance and subjective satisfaction. Relevance to industryPrinted guide signs in subway cars are being replaced by electronic guide screens of different styles. Passengers must search for the required information within a limited period. In this study, the effects of different interface layouts and display modes on search performance, visual behavior, and usability were studied. This had a positive significance in improving user experience.

The Impact of Interface Design Element Features on Task Performance in Older Adults: Evidence from Eye-Tracking and EEG Signals.

It is crucial that the interface design of mobile apps be age-appropriate at this stage of global aging, as the new epidemic has resulted in a higher sense of isolation among older persons. In this study, four typical senior social service mobile applications were chosen to give older persons the ability to complete user login duties. The participants were 16 older adults (7 men and 9 women) aged 55 to 76. Both objective and subjective data, including task completion time, gaze length, pupil diameter changes, EEG wave amplitude changes, and subjective sensations of older persons, were gathered using a combination of eye-movement and EEG signal approaches. The program was created to investigate the effects of interface design aspects on older people’s task performance, including interface layout, interface color, information density, icon size and position, etc. The study’s findings revealed that when the user task completion time and average fixation duration were shorter, the line of sight was more equally distributed, the visual focus was closer to the login button, and the average EEG amplitude of the user changed more, the older adults performed better. The palace layout had a more positive effect on job completion among older individuals when it came to interface layout. In terms of interface color, colored (contrasting) colors should serve to highlight the interface’s essential information points while they can be removed. In terms of interface information density, a low-density level interface design can simplify and lower the cognitive load of task execution for older people. The first level of icons in the interface and their position in the visual center of the interface is the best interface design for older persons in terms of icon size and position. The results of this study have theoretical ramifications for a thorough understanding of the factors influencing older people’s task performance, practical ramifications for the design of older people-centered interfaces, and they contribute to our understanding of the characteristics of older people’s interface interaction behavior.

Design Factors to Improve the Consistency and Sustainable User Experience of Responsive Interface Design

Computers have been extended to a variety of devices, such as smart phones, tablets, and smart watches, thereby increasing the importance of responsive interfaces across multi-terminal devices. To ensure a consistent and sustainable user experience for websites and software products, it is important to study the layout, design elements, and users’ visual perception of different terminal interfaces. In this paper, the multi-terminal interfaces of 40 existing responsive websites were studied in a hierarchical grouping experiment, and six typical interface layouts were classified and extracted. Then, the main design factors affecting interface consistency of the responsive website were extracted and classified through eye tracking and a questionnaire survey. Finally, taking a sales management software tool (SA) as an example for design application, we successfully created responsive interfaces across multi-terminal devices with a consistent and sustainable experience.

How dynamic information layout in GIS interface affects users’ search performance: integrating visual motion cognition into map information design

ABSTRACT Given that the unreasonable layout caused by the surge of map information will dramatically reduce the user's operation performance, this paper proposed a 3 V layout method based on human visual motion cognition. According to the visual flow method, two visual search experiments were designed to study the influence of label layouts and graphic overlap rates on users’ search efficiency. By testing users’ reaction time and gaze behaviour, it was found that L-LR layouts arranged in a vertically symmetrical way had the best search performance among the four layouts. The overall performance of L-LR and L-TB layouts arranged in a unidirectional and symmetrical way was better than that of L-UG and L-EP layouts in the graphic and number search task. However, L-UG and L-EP layouts performed better than L-LR and L-TB ones in the graphic search under lower overlap rates. Moreover, it is also worth noting that the performance of graphic search was significantly higher than that of number search, indicating that users distinguished the location-based information represented by graphics better than that by text. The results provide a certain theoretical basis and application value for the map information layout of the GIS interface.

Research on Unmanned Driving Interface Based on Lidar Imaging Technology

As an autonomous mobile robot, the unmanned intelligent vehicle is often installed with sensors to collect the road environment information, and then process the information and control the speed and steering. In this study, vehicle-mounted camera, laser scanning radar and other sensors were equipped to collect real-time environmental information to efficiently process and accurately detect the specific location and shape of the obstacle. This study then investigated the impact of two In-Vehicle Information Systems (IVISS) on both usability and driving safety. Besides, the laser perception sensing technology was applied to transmit the information of the surrounding around the real-time driving area to the vehicle system. Simulating vehicle checkerboard and hierarchical IVIS interface layouts, we also examined their usability based on task completion time, error rate, NASA-TLX, and System Usability Scale (SUS). It was suggested that the results offer a supporting evidence for further design of IVIS interface.
