The Use of Online Learning Materials in Teaching History: Teachers’ Experiences

Malaysia, a plural societal country which is also known for its richness in multi religion, multicultural and multilingualism for years. Malaysia comprises various ethnic groups and leaving the Bumiputera, Chinese and Indians as the major ones. To remain the element of multiculturalism and the independence that we; Malaysians have gained, History as a subject plays an important role. History is a compulsory subject for all Malaysian students to study and pass in their form five SPM examinations. Therefore, teaching and learning in a classroom should take place in a fun, interesting and meaningful way to attain the student’s full attention and participation to achieve the intended lesson objectives. As students are keener into technology these days, the use of online learning materials plays a vital role in attaining the student’s participation in History classes. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to identify the instructional learning materials available in teaching history, factors that teachers consider in selecting instructional materials and the way teachers present and interpret instructional materials in teaching history. A total of five history teachers all over Malaysia are involved in this descriptive study.

Worksheets for the Improvement of Technical Drafting Skills of Electrical Installation and Maintenance Students

This study's goal was to assess the effectiveness of the developed Electrical Installation and Maintenance 9 worksheets, which were given to grade 9 students at Punta Integrated School in Calamba City, Laguna. The study specifically aimed to answer the following questions: First, what is the component level of the worksheets? Second, what is the worksheets' feature level? Third, what is the level of Academic Performance of Grade 9 Students in terms of third quarter grade? Fourth, do the component of worksheet has significant effect on Academic performance of Grade 9 students? Lastly, do the feature o worksheet has significant effect on Academic performance of Grade 9 students? The descriptive method of research was used in this study. The respondents were one hundred thirty (130) students at Punta Integrated School who used and evaluated the worksheets. Based on the data gathered concerning the objectives of this study the following are the significant findings: (1) The component level of worksheets were all highly satisfactory; (2) Also the features level of the worksheet were all highly satisfactory; (3) In terms of third quarter grade, the level of Academic Performance of Grade 9 Electrical Installation and Maintenance students in terms of 3rd Quarter Grade was very competent; (4) The analyzed data revealed that the components of the worksheet had a partially significant effect on the students? performance; In addition to this (5) the features of the worksheet had a partially significant effect on students? performance. Based on the results above, the researcher came to the conclusion that the components of the worksheet in terms of learning objectives, content, and assessment had no significant effect on students? performance. While the components of the worksheet in terms of activities has a significant effect on students? performance. On the other hand, the features of the worksheet in terms of usability, consistency, aesthetic value and had no significant effect on students? performance and the features of the worksheet with regards to adaptability has a significant effect on the performance of the students. Therefore, the null hypothesis is partially accepted. Therefore it is recommended that TLE teachers may develop additional instructional learning materials based on the needs and interests of the students assimilated into other courses offered in Technology and Livelihood Education to enhance their skills in every situation they were in.

Module in Handicrafts

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate the module in handicrafts in the subject area of Technology and Livelihood Education. This study sought to determine the effects of the module in handicrafts on the students' performance. The respondents of the study were the fifty (50) Grade 7 students of Liceo de Victoria under distance learning. The descriptive survey research method was used in this study in order to assess the level of module components and attributes in Technology and Livelihood Education under handicrafts production. The following were the significant findings of the study; the level of module components with regards to learning objectives, contents, activities, and assessments were all very high. The level of module attributes with regards to adaptability, appropriateness, design, self-instructional, usability and validity were all very high. The level of students? performance of Grade 7 as to third quarter grade in TLE subject are proficient. The components of the module in terms of learning objectives, content and activities has a significant effect on students? performance while there is no significant effect in terms of assessment. On the other hand, the attributes of the module in terms of adaptability, appropriateness, design, self-instructional, usability and validity has a significant effect on students? performance. Hence, there is a significant effect between the modules in handicrafts to the students? performance. Thus, the null hypothesis is rejected. Therefore, it is recommended that the Liceo de Victoria school in which the researcher is employed may request to the SPDCSS administrators to use the said module in handicrafts as a centralize one for the whole schools? system. The TLE teachers may develop additional instructional learning materials based on the needs and interests of the students assimilated into other courses offered in Technology and Livelihood Education and the TLE teachers are encouraged to attend seminars, workshops, and training programs to acquire new knowledge and updated background information on developing instructional learning materials.

Instructional Learning Materials’ Use and Students Academic Outcomes in Private Secondary Schools sin Rwanda: A Case Study of Nyarugenge District

The study aimed at investigating the influence of instructional learning materials use on students’ academic outcomes in private secondary schools in Nyarugenge District. The objectives that guided the study were: to identify the instructional learning materials used by teachers in the teaching and learning process in secondary schools of Rwanda; to assess the students’ academic outcomes resulting from the implication of instructional learning materials in teaching and learning process; to establish relationship between instructional learning materials and the students’ academic outcomes. The study was guided by system theory and descriptive survey design and correlational design. The sample of 244 respondents including students, teachers, headteachers and deputy headteacher in charge of study participated in this study. Questionnaires and interview schedule were used to collect data. Frequencies, percentages, mean, thematic approach and Pearson product moment correlation coefficient were used to analyse collected data, whereas, tables, figures and textual model were used to present collected data. The study findings revealed textbooks, worksheets, computers, chats, projectors, recoding books for students’ progress, chalks, internet sources, laboratory materials and workshops as the commonly used teaching and learning materials in private secondary schools in Nyarugenge district. Furthermore, findings revealed that computers and laboratory materials are not adequately used. The findings from teachers revealed that 68% of participated teachers agreed that effective use of instructional learning materials in teaching and learning process improves learners’ motivations in learning, and improves students’ academic outcomes, 82% of teachers reported that effective use of instructional learning materials improves students class participations. Furthermore, findings revealed a significant relationship between instructional learning materials and the student’s academic outcomes in private secondary schools in Nyarugenge district. This was revealed by p- value of 0.000 in the findings given by students and p- value of 0.004 in the findings given by the teachers. In addition, findings revealed that there is a positive degree of relationship between instructional learning materials and students’ academic outcomes as shown by the computed Karl Pearson product moment correlational coefficient of 0.433 and 0.78 findings from students and teachers respectively. The study recommended that students need to use effectively and efficiently available leaning materials in their schools. Teachers should use available learning materials in effective ways. In the schools where there are inadequate learning materials, they should explain to their leader the need for these materials. The study also recommended that school leaders should do all possible measures to provide their schools with adequate learning materials. KOMPETENSI GURU PENDIDIKAN AGAMA ISLAM SMA NEGERI 5 UNGGULAN PAREPARE

Teacher’s competencies are a key to the transformation of understanding and religious experience for students. They are pedagogical, personal, social, professional, and leadership competency. The study aims at knowing the reality of religious teacher’s competency in boarding schools and supporting and obstacle factors in improving their competency. It used a qualitative approach and data were collected through interviews, observation, and document review. The object of study was the boarding school educational unit, namely State Senior High School (MAN) 5 favorite in Parepare. The results of the study illustrated that Islamic education (PAI) teachers have competencies and skills as determined by the government such as the ability to motivate and protect students with different characters, having administrative skills in managing instructional learning materials, capability to read class situations when applying or using learning methods, to interpret learning programs to students and to deliver learning effectively and efficiently. The programs of religious teachers’ competency improvement include through the support of Subject Teacher Forum (MGMP) and in house training activities.

The benefits of educational tales in teacher and student perspective

This study aims to analyze teacher and student perspectives on educational fairy tales as instructional learning materials. The research was involved 20 teachers and 400 students of forth grade of elementary school in Yogyakarta Province. The data collection techniques used were questionnaires and interviews. Researcher used descriptive statistical data analysis techniques. This technique was used to describe the perception of teachers and students about the benefits of educational tales in percentage calculation. The results show that teachers and students have a high positive perspective on the presence of educational fairy tales as learning support teaching materials. It was known the teacher perspective a percentage of 91.50% and 98.00% students in terms of attractiveness of educational fairy tales. While on the aspect of the utilization of educational fairytale books as teaching materials, teachers and students provide a percentage of 92.50% and 93.00%. In its usefulness for build character value, the teacher gives the percentage of 97,75% and the student equal to 86.00% with the category of very good, then on the utilization aspect of educational fairy tale to the development of cognitive ability of the child, the teacher gives the percentage of 92.00% and for the student is 88.75% that mean very good category. This means that teachers and students, both have a high perspective that a fairy tale containing educational elements can generate a sense of interest, usefulness in learning, can be a medium of character values in children and can stimulate the development of cognitive abilities of children.

Computer Aided Tool in Science for Kindergarten Pupils

The learning program for Kindergarten is implemented by way of diverse learning activities that may beenhanced with the used of technologies and as one of the responses to meet the growing need for high quality education. The use of instructional learning materials and other resources that are locally developed and available is encouraged. Teaching Kindergarten has some problems that teachers are good to be aware of. Before deciding to teach Kindergarten, know yourself if you have the ability to not only to enforce behavioral rules but also to handle the stress and disorder that accompanies pupils’ behavioral problems. The main objective of the study is to evaluate the level of effectiveness of the proposed computer aided instruction entitled “Computer Aided Tool in Science for Kindergarten Education” according to the perception of the respondents. As the major step in the proposed research study computer aided instruction, the researcher used the descriptive research design and random sampling method. The statistical tools such as frequency distribution, percentage distribution and the weighted arithmetic mean were utilized in order to analyse and interpret the data gathered. T-test was also used to determine if there exist a significant difference on the level of effectiveness of the proposed system according to classification of the respondents. As to the level of effectiveness of the proposed computer aided instruction as to the teachers’ respondents they rated 4.71, which is interpreted as Highly Effective in terms of the entire criterion used while according to pupils’ respondents, they rated 4.81 with is interpreted as Highly Effective. The hypothesis tested between the two classifications of the respondents is -0.15, describes that there is no significant difference between the two classifications of respondents. The proposed system provides technology enhanced learning in science that leads Kindergarten pupils develop the foundation necessary for the future academic success.

PELESTARIAN DAN PERAN MASYARAKAT DI KAWASAN SEKITAR SITU CISANTI

The Around Zone of Situ Ci s anti is in the arboretum 73 upstream of Ci Tarum River , t here are seven springs that drain the water into Situ Cisanti . However, if the around zone destructively altered, there will be kiln drying of the springs. The purpose of this research are to determine the type of local wisdom that are still made by the society, to determine the distribution of zoning to reduce the pressure of population in protecting areas of land use, to determine the role of reformer agencies and society and the outcome of the efforts to preserve the around zone of Situ Cisanti, and to determine the implications of the research product in conservation and the role of society of Situ Cisanti region in learning Geography in SMA (High School) / MA / equal . The method of the research is qualitative -verification through phenomenological approach, to seek and uncover the meaning behind the facts found. Even though the destructive activities in the forest of the around zone of Situ Cisanti almost happen in the case, there are still local wisdom in the society . Zoning the around zone of the lake is determined based on the slope and the distance that divided into six zones, with the three functions; the green zone, cultivation zone, and interaction zone. The struggle of change agents and the society can be inspiration for the students to understand, conscious, car e , and take action to preserve the environment , so it appears change agent of environmental. The results of this study can be instructional materials for learning in school are expected to make the learner friendly to the environment.

CALLMedia Digital Technology

Ongoing technological advancements in the design and use of multimedia digital technology for improving comprehension of culturally authentic texts necessitate a clear understanding of the theory and pedagogy behind their use. Achieving effective and responsible use of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) with digitized multimedia-based instructional learning materials (termed here CALLmedia D-learning) is therefore essential to the organization of such learning. This paper deals with the theoretical considerations and didactic concerns involved in the integration of new interactive digital technologies into the instructional process. It first summarizes the benefits derived from CALLmedia digital technology with regard to language instruction, learners, and teachers. It then advances specific arguments for its integration with "conventional" instructional classroom practices. Based on recent research on learning with CALL and multimedia, it concludes by considering practical pedagogical implications for multimedia-based digital learning and related research using such technology.

Improving Distance Courses: Understanding Teacher Trainees and Their Learning Styles for the Design of Teacher Training Courses and Materials at a Distance.

Literature on distance education and teacher education seems to show that what we do not know about Distance Teacher Trainees 1 ( DTT ) and their learning process involved exceeds what we know about it. As more DTT enroll in distance education programmes globally, distance education providers and institutions will witness trainees coming with different backgrounds and experiences begin to take advantage of this learning opportunities. One important variable in the effectiveness of distance learning is the preference of the distance learner for a particular learning mode. A key to maintaining distance learners participation in learning lies in understanding the Learning Styles Preferences ( LSP ) and the processes involved. This is also true for teacher training. There is much greater variation in the range of LSP and how to address them when preparing distance training materials and courses. The primary purpose of this paper is to propose ways in which individual learning differences should be accommodated when designing instructional learning materials in print for DTTs. Kolb’s ( 1984 )model on learning cycle and styles are discussed to provide instructional design guidelines which accommodate each stage of the learning cycles and individual differences between DTT in processing and presenting information and knowledge. In addition, issues on teacher education, distance learning, individual differences, and ways in which the ‘differences’ can be accommodated when designing learning materials for DTT are also discussed. This paper resonates the idea and belief that if attempts are made to match learning styles of DTTs and andragogy with content to be learned, distance teacher educators ( DTEs )and instructors can develop better instructional materials with greater prospects of success. Getting to know and understand the teacher trainees and their learning process involved must first be addressed to facilitate the diverse needs of the Malaysian teacher trainees.

The HYPATIA Project. Models of Legal Knowledge and Legal Reasoning in Computer-assisted Instructional Materials for Learning the Law

The HYPATIA project aims at designing computer-assisted instructional materials for law students. The focus is on new additional instructional materials intended to support students where they experience difficulties in acquiring legal knowledge and legal skills, though materials are not yet available. The HYPATIA project is divided into specific projects that seek to realize instructional environments for acquiring legal concepts, for learning to use statutes on the basis of insight in the system and structure of statutes, for learning to use precedents on the basis of insight in the structure and elements of precedents, and for learning to solve legal cases. The emphasis is on a model-based approach. Models of legal knowledge and legal reasoning are the basis for designing the instructional environment. To (re)construct these models a variety of theoretical sources are examined. Next to this it is necessary to gain insight in the specific difficulties students experience in acquiring legal knowledge and legal skills. Remedies are suggested on the basis of both the models of the legal knowledge and skills and the specific difficulties experienced. The research also results in an explicit instructional model, which is an important part of the instructional environment to be realized.

Principles for Designing Web Searching Instruction

Web searching is a timely topic which importance is recognized by researchers, educators and instructional designers. This paper aims to guide these practitioners in developing instructional materials for learning to search the Web. It does so by articulating ten design principles that attend to the content and presentation of Web searching instruction. These principles convey a mixture of insights gleaned from instructional theory, empirical research, and many hours of classroom experience. Together, these design recommendations elucidate the key characteristics of effective Web searching instruction, explaining not only what the instructional materials look like, but also why they look the way they do.
