Precise Clock Synchronization Strategy of Power Distribution Field Network Based on HPLC Communication

In order to improve clock synchronization precision of the power distribution field network, a power distribution field network with high‐speed power line broadband carrier communication is designed, and a step‐by‐step precision clock synchronization strategy is developed based on modified timing‐sync protocol for sensor networks. In the strategy, the clock of the central node is calibrated in real‐time as the master clock of the field network by the communication master station through the long‐distance communication network, the time and frequency deviations of the clocks of each node in the network are accurately monitored using the broadcast mechanism and the network time base of the carrier communication, and the clock frequency is gradually amended by re‐calibrating the clock temperature compensation coefficient of the node so that the clock of the node is synchronized step‐by‐step within a clock synchronization cycle. The clock synchronization performances of the field network are tested in the laboratory and jobsite, and test results show that the clock synchronization accuracy of the field network is within ± 0.23 s/24 h, which is 28% higher than that of the power distribution field network based on narrowband power line carrier, and these phenomena of time gap or time repetition are avoided in the clock synchronization process. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Feasibility and Acceptability of Chatbots for Nutrition and Physical Activity Health Promotion Among Adolescents: Systematic Scoping Review With Adolescent Consultation.

Reducing lifestyle risk behaviors among adolescents depends on access to age-appropriate health promotion information. Chatbots-computer programs designed to simulate conversations with human users-have the potential to deliver health information to adolescents to improve their lifestyle behaviors and support behavior change, but research on the feasibility and acceptability of chatbots in the adolescent population is unknown. This systematic scoping review aims to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of chatbots in nutrition and physical activity interventions among adolescents. A secondary aim is to consult adolescents to identify features of chatbots that are acceptable and feasible. We searched 6 electronic databases from March to April 2022 (MEDLINE, Embase, Joanna Briggs Institute, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health, the Association for Computing Machinery library, and the IT database Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). Peer-reviewed studies were included that were conducted in the adolescent population (10-19 years old) without any chronic disease, except obesity or type 2 diabetes, and assessed chatbots used nutrition or physical activity interventions or both that encouraged individuals to meet dietary or physical activity guidelines and support positive behavior change. Studies were screened by 2 independent reviewers, with any queries resolved by a third reviewer. Data were extracted into tables and collated in a narrative summary. Gray literature searches were also undertaken. Results of the scoping review were presented to a diverse youth advisory group (N=16, 13-18 years old) to gain insights into this topic beyond what is published in the literature. The search identified 5558 papers, with 5 (0.1%) studies describing 5 chatbots meeting the inclusion criteria. The 5 chatbots were supported by mobile apps using a combination of the following features: personalized feedback, conversational agents, gamification, and monitoring of behavior change. Of the 5 studies, 2 (40.0%) studies focused on nutrition, 2 (40.0%) studies focused on physical activity, and 1 (20.0%) focused on both nutrition and physical activity. Feasibility and acceptability varied across the 5 studies, with usage rates above 50% in 3 (60.0%) studies. In addition, 3 (60.0%) studies reported health-related outcomes, with only 1 (20.0%) study showing promising effects of the intervention. Adolescents presented novel concerns around the use of chatbots in nutrition and physical activity interventions, including ethical concerns and the use of false or misleading information. Limited research is available on chatbots in adolescent nutrition and physical activity interventions, finding insufficient evidence on the acceptability and feasibility of chatbots in the adolescent population. Similarly, adolescent consultation identified issues in the design features that have not been mentioned in the published literature. Therefore, chatbot codesign with adolescents may help ensure that such technology is feasible and acceptable to an adolescent population.

The New Control Method for Detection of Cold‐Warm sensation using a Heater Integrated Tactile Sensor

AbstractIn recent years, the demand for quantifying the five senses has increased in the industrial and medical fields. In particular, the sense of touch is a complex sensation consisting of contact force, sliding force, and cold‐warm sensation. The cold‐warm sensation is perceived by the difference in heat transfer between the object and the skin, and the difference in the heat capacity of the object. In our previous research, we developed a MEMS tactile sensor that can measure contact force, sliding force, and cold‐warm sensation with a single sensor. However, the measurement of the cold‐warm sensation requires a long measurement time to stabilize the temperature and relatively high‐temperature conditions of 40°C or higher. In this study, we report on a method for measuring the cold‐warm sensation at a temperature similar to that of a human fingertip. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. R&D of on-board metal-insulation REBCO superconducting magnet for electrodynamic suspension system

Metal-insulation (MI) REBCO high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet has the advantages of short charging delay, low contact losses, and self-protection abilities, which shows important application prospects in many fields. Recently, Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences developed a prototype on-board MI HTS coil used for electrodynamic suspension (EDS) system working with an acceleration of beyond 8 g. To design a reliable engineering on-board magnet, specific Ic angle dependence data of short sample under different fields were fully considered to estimate the operating margin and losses accurately of the on-board magnet. A semi-analytical method, combination of the dynamic circuit method and finite element method, was used to analyze the dynamic electromagnetic force distribution inside the on-board magnet under motion state, in which the effect of the propulsion coils and the figure-eight-shaped coils were taken into considerations. Finally, a full-size MI double pancake racetrack coil was fabricated and tested in a liquid nitrogen bath. The test results meet the design requirements and verify the feasibility of the design, which provides an important reference for the experiment of on-board EDS with high acceleration in the future.

Noise‐Robust Optimization of Impedance Loading for Single‐RF MIMO Systems

Multiple‐Input‐Multiple‐Output (MIMO) systems are widely used to enhance the system capacity in wireless communications systems. The complexity and the cost for implementing the multiple radio frequency‐chain (RF‐chain) increases proportional to the number of signal streams. Therefore, so‐called load modulating single‐RF MIMO system is one promising technology in the practical aspects. Load modulating single‐RF MIMO can utilize two‐port network for controlling the load and the desired signal can be generate by loading proper set of impedance. In this paper, the optimization method for choosing the two‐port network impedance solution that is robust to the impedance noise is proposed and the simulations are conducted to verify the robustness. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Calculation Method for Initial Discharge Formation Parts of Live Line Worker Based on Leader Discharge Theory

For the initial attachment parts of the human body discharge under live working conditions of transmission lines, this paper proposes a calculation method suitable for any working posture and tower type based on the leader discharge theory. By simulating the formation of the leader channel, the minimum background field for the initiation of the stable leader in various parts of the human body is calculated, and the probability distribution of the initial discharge attachment position on the body surface of the worker is obtained. The results show that the stable transformation of the secondary corona to the leader channel at the tip of the human body is a precondition for this part to become an attachment point of the discharge; In the process of the worker entering the equipotential, affected by the entering direction and posture, the parts with a large curvature such as the hands and feet are likely to become the initial discharge attachment position; Due to the shielding effect from the limbs, the rear part of the worker has a low probability of becoming the initial discharge attachment position. The purpose of this research is to explore an effective method for identifying the discharge location of a live line worker, and to strengthen the protection of workers from the electric field. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Point of Interest Recommendation Method Based on Bidirectional Matrix and Deep Belief Network

AbstractPoint‐of‐interest (POI) recommendation has always faced serious data sparsity problem. Most of the existing POI recommendation methods do not consider the bidirectional relationship between the user‐preference for locations and the location‐ attractiveness to users in the original dataset when solving the sparsity. For this problem, a point‐of‐interest recommendation method based on bidirectional matrix and deep belief network (POI_DBNBM) is proposed in this paper. Specially, from the perspectives of users and locations, we first construct two different matrices with bidirectional relationship by mapping the original dataset, and we use deep belief network (DBN) with strong learning ability to predict the two matrices. Then, a local–global weight optimization method is developed to weight and fuse the two result matrices obtained by DBN, so as to achieve the more precise user's rating prediction matrix for locations. The abundant experimental studies and evaluations are conducted on FourSquare dataset. Forced Convection during Cooling of Power Supply Box using Pulsation Flow with Piezoelectric Fan

AbstractForced convection flow of air through power supply box with piezoelectric fan of nine identical electrical devices has been numerically investigated. This work simulates a practical situation in which periodic temperature is generated in an electrical device as a result of its periodic input voltage. The finite volume method has been adopted to solve the governing equations. The effects of important parameters such as pulsation flow frequencies and temperature modulation frequency on heat transfer rates were investigated in details for Re = 500 corresponding to velocity of 0.39 m/s. The piezoelectric vibration amplitude is fixed at 0.2 and frequencies are varied in the range of [0–3] corresponding to [0–287] Hz. We have found that the time averaged Nusselt number for each electrical device depends on the pulsation frequency and heat modulation, and it is always larger than that in the steady‐state case. The results show that there exists a short band of frequencies which the enhancement of heat transfer of all electrical devices is higher than 55% compared with that of steady state. In addition, the heat transfer is maximum when heated pulsation frequency in the device is set as St = 3.0 corresponding to frequency of 58.5 Hz of input voltage. The combined pulsation flow by piezoelectric fan and heated pulsation by input voltage show vigorous heat transfer through electrical devices blocks and the heat transfer enhancement was observed in relatively narrow bands of frequencies. The efficiency of piezoelectric fan is expressed by the maximum temperature of the ninth electrical device which not exceed 80°C for time‐averaged velocity of 0.556 m/s and vibration frequency of 34.75 Hz of piezoelectric fan. The pressure drop and power pumping of piezoelectric fan are obtained for different Reynolds numbers. We found that the power loss was 4.6 times higher than for the piezoelectric fan at Re = 500. Good agreement between our numerical simulations of piezoelectric fan and experimental results available from the literature is obtained. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Research on Motor Drive Technology for an Operating Device of 126 kV Vacuum Circuit Breaker

This study has designed a set of motor operating devices for a 126 kV vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) to improve its reliability and controllability. A finite‐angle permanent magnet brushless motor (FAPMBM) with a multi‐slot stator structure and a dovetail rotor structure has been designed based on the torque and speed requirements of the motor. These requirements were determined by a dynamic analysis of the operating device and its short‐time, finite‐angle working characteristics. The work performance of the prototype motor has been evaluated in an online experiment with a 126 kV VCB, and based on this, a segmented control method has been designed. The motion process of the operating device has been divided into four stages in combination with the output torque demand of the driving motor. At each stage, the output torque of the motor has been changed dynamically to prevent contact collision, shorten the pre‐breakdown time, and make the circuit breaker work more reliably. The results show that the FAPMBM can meet the operating time and speed requirements of the interrupter for the operating device. In addition, the segmented control method improves the work reliability and optimizes the movement of the operating device, which helps the circuit breaker work intelligently. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Mapping CPAT I/O Data to CIM and Setting the Multiplicity of Attributes and Associations

This study demonstrates the mapping of input/output (I/O) data of Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry's Power System Analysis Tool (CPAT) with the Common Information Model (CIM) and the setting of the multiplicity of attributes and associations. The mapping describes which CIM classes defined in IEC 61970‐301 Edition 7.0 and IEC 61970‐302 Edition 1.0 correspond to which I/O data of CPAT. In addition, the multiplicity of their attributes and associations is determined by requirements of the I/O data of CPAT. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Equivalence between C5F10O Addition and PTFE Vapor Contamination in the Particle Composition and Critical Electric Field Strength of High‐Temperature CO2/O2 Gas Mixture

AbstractSF6 has been introduced as an insulating and extinguishing gas in gas circuit breakers. However, its global warming potential is significantly high at approximately 25 200. Therefore, development of alternative gases is essential. We have been investigating the dielectric breakdown characteristics of high temperature CO2 gas contaminated by various gases. This study discusses the equivalent condition between high temperature CO2/O2/C5F10O gas mixture and CO2/O2 gas mixture contaminated with PTFE (C2F4) vapor because both gas mixtures consist of C, O, and F atoms. It is concluded that when the mole fractions of every atom are equivalent between both gas mixtures, both gas mixtures have the same characteristics as each other, such as the particle composition and critical electric field strength. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Full Feedback Dynamic Neural Network with Exogenous Inputs for Dynamic Data‐Driven Modeling in Nonlinear Dynamic Power Systems

AbstractDynamic neural networks (DNNs) are widely used in data‐driven modeling of nonlinear control systems. Due to the complexity of the actual operating nonlinear power systems, rigorous dynamic models are always unknown. DNNs can focus on methods that only use input and output information to establish accurate dynamic models and reduce noise in measured data, which is called data‐driven modeling. The core of the DNN is the feedback with memory function. This paper analyzes the traditional Elman neural network (ENN) and nonlinear auto‐regression with exogenous input (NARX) neural network with different structure feedback structures, and proposes a full feedback dynamic neural network (FF‐DNN) with exogenous input. Eight different kinds of neural networks (including ENN, NARX, etc.) are compared and analyzed. The eight kinds of neural networks are applied on the experimental data of the DC‐AC inverter and the power system of Zhejiang Juchuang Smart Technology Company Park in Wenzhou. The experimental results are used to compare the performance of the data‐driven models established by eight different kinds of neural networks under different noise conditions, verify the robustness and generalization performance of dynamic data‐driven modeling based on FF‐DNN, and demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of FF‐DNN in actual power systems. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Automatic Label Calibration for Singing Annotation Using Fully Convolutional Neural Network

Accurately‐labeled data is crucial for the training of machine learning models. For singing‐related tasks in the music information retrieval field, accurately‐labeled data is limited because annotating singing is time‐consuming. Several studies create vocal datasets using a two‐step annotation method which creates coarse labels first and then executes a manual calibration procedure. However, manually calibrating coarsely‐labeled singing data is expensive and time‐consuming. To address this problem, in this study we propose a singing‐label calibration framework, which aims to automatically calibrate the coarsely‐labeled singing data with higher accuracy. This framework contains a data augmentation method to generate training and testing data, a reasonable data preprocessing method to handle music audio and symbolic labels, a fully‐convolutional neural network to estimate the difference between coarse labels and accurate labels, and a novel calibration function to correct the coarse labels. Various experiments are conducted to examine the effect of our research. The results show that our model can highly reduce the cost time and slightly increase the labeling accuracy of the manual calibration process. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. A Novel Frequency Compensation Scheme for Heavy Load LDO with Improved Load Regulation and High Open Loop Gain

This paper presents a novel frequency compensation scheme for the stability of low dropout regulator (LDO). The proposed compensation scheme introduces a zero in the voltage regulation loop to enlarge gain and phase margin at high‐frequencies. As a result, high open‐loop‐gain and improved load regulation performances are achieved, and a particular resistor is introduced in the compensation structure to cancel the voltage drop originating from cable resistances at the output to further improve the load regulation performance. The proposed LDO with wide input/output range and high‐power supply rejection is designed and implemented in a 180 nm CMOS process. The LDO operates with an input voltage range of 4–16 V, an output voltage range of 1.5–5 V and an output current range of 0–1000 mA. High open loop gain and high bandwidth are achieved, and the simulated performances of load regulation and line regulation are less than 32 μV/mA and less than 3 mV/V over the whole operation range, respectively. A New Dual Mode Blind Equalization Method Based on Neighborhood Symbol‐Based Decision and Decision‐Directed Algorithm

AbstractIn this paper, a new dual mode blind equalization method using neighborhood symbol‐based decision and decision‐directed (NSBD‐DD) algorithm is proposed to equalize the satellite communication signals. The proposed algorithm adopts the combined cost function to employ the advantages of symbol decision algorithm and the decision‐directed algorithm, which can further improve the universality of the proposed algorithm. Compared with the conventional blind equalization algorithm, the compensation ability of intersymbol interference and convergence speed of the proposed algorithm can be improved simultaneously. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, the computer simulation is performed, and the simulation results show that the residual intersymbol interference of the 64QAM signals can be decreased to −50 dB under the satellite channel, which has 30 dB lower than multi‐modulus algorithm (MMA), 26 dB lower than NSBD algorithm, and 10 dB lower than SBD algorithm. And compared with SBD algorithm, the number of iterations required for the NSBD‐DD algorithm can be decreased from 8000 iterations to 6000 iterations, which convergence speed is increased by 25%. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. The 2022 International Symposium on Advanced Launch Technologies took place in a hybrid format (virtually and physically) during 4-6 July 2022 at the Shaanxi Hotel, Xi’an, in the People’s Republic of China. It was organised as a hybrid conference due to the pandemic and travel restrictions. By holding part of it in virtual format, a greater number of scientists and engineers worldwide could participate. The objectives of the conference were to disseminate details on the latest developments in launch technologies. The scope of the conference included fire control technologies, unmanned launch and anti-aircraft technologies, new materials, command and communications technologies, and applications of artificial intelligence.The two Chairs of the conference were the following:Professor Kuiwu Li, Northwest Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, China;Clive Woodley, Principal Scientist, UK.The conference comprised an Opening Ceremony followed by plenary lectures. A Closing Ceremony was conducted at the end of the conference. In addition, papers were submitted and reviewed for publication in the conference proceedings. Gated‐Attention Model with Reinforcement Learning for Solving Dynamic Job Shop Scheduling Problem

Job shop scheduling problem (JSSP) is one of the well‐known NP‐hard combinatorial optimization problems (COPs) that aims to optimize the sequential assignment of finite machines to a set of jobs while adhering to specified problem constraints. Conventional solution approaches which include heuristic dispatching rules and evolutionary algorithms has been largely in use to solve JSSPs. Recently, the use of reinforcement learning (RL) has gained popularity for delivering better solution quality for JSSPs. In this research, we propose an end‐to‐end deep reinforcement learning (DRL) based scheduling model for solving the standard JSSP. Our DRL model uses attention‐based encoder of Transformer network to embed the JSSP environment represented as a disjunctive graph. We introduced Gate mechanism to modulate the flow of learnt features by preventing noise features from propagating across the network to enrich the representations of nodes of the disjunctive graph. In addition, we designed a novel Gate‐based graph pooling mechanism that preferentially constructs the graph embedding. A simple multi‐layer perceptron (MLP) based action selection network is used for sequentially generating optimal schedules. The model is trained using proximal policy optimization (PPO) algorithm which is built on actor critic (AC) framework. Experimental results show that our model outperforms existing heuristics and state of the art DRL based baselines on generated instances and well‐known public test benchmarks. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. A Novel Parameter Estimation Method of FHSS Signal with Low SNR

A novel parameter estimation method of frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) signal is proposed. The observed signal is divided into multiple segments and forms an observed matrix, performing FFT on the observed matrix with different segment lengths to obtain the corresponding spectrum matrix. By analyzing the convergence characteristics of the spectrum matrix, the estimation of the symbol period is realized, on this basis, the symbol‐frequency distribution is obtained and its projected spectrum in Frequency‐Amplitude plane is further obtained to select the candidate frequencies. The matrix composed of multiple single frequency signals is constructed according to the candidate frequencies and multiplied with the observed matrix under the segment length of symbol period, then the number of symbols per hopping duration is estimated according to the matrix multiplication result, so as to realize the estimation of the hopping duration, and finally the real hopping frequencies and hopping sequence can be found out from the candidate frequencies. Simulation results are presented to indicate that the proposed method has good estimation performance especially under the condition of low SNR. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Evolutionary Many‐objective Optimization: Difficulties, Approaches, and Discussions

AbstractPopulation‐based evolutionary algorithms are suitable for solving multi‐objective optimization problems involving multiple conflicting objectives. This is because a set of well‐distributed solutions can be obtained by a single run, which approximate the optimal tradeoff among the objectives. Over the past three decades, evolutionary multi‐objective optimization has been intensively studied and used in various real‐world applications. However, evolutionary multi‐objective optimization faces various difficulties as the number of objectives increases. The simultaneous optimization of more than three objectives, which is called many‐objective optimization, has attracted considerable research attention. This paper explains various difficulties in evolutionary many‐objective optimization, reviews representative approaches, and discusses their effects and limitations. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Twin Vibrational Power Generators and Extremum Seeking Control

Vibration power generation using environmental vibrations to generate electricity has attracted attention as a sustainable independent power source such as wireless sensors placed under vibration. However, for efficient power generation, the resonant frequency of the vibration power generator must be automatically adjusted to the environmental vibrations. To achieve it, the author's group proposes installing a variable capacitance in the device and adjusting its capacitance by extremum seeking control. Therefore, this study proposes a generator configuration “twin generators” and a new extremum seeking control. Compared to the method employing conventional extremum seeking control, the proposed method increases power generation efficiency under damped vibration excitation, even when the vibration's amplitude and frequency change randomly. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.
