The success of a tourist destination in the world market cannot be separated from the influence of its competitiveness. The competitiveness of tourist destinations is an area that attracts the attention of tourism researchers. Tourism competitiveness has tremendous consequences for the tourism industry and is therefore of great interest to practitioners and policy makers. The approach to the competitiveness of tourist destinations has so far focused on the image or attractiveness of tourist destinations concentrating on attributes that are considered to attract visitors, such as climate, scenery and accommodation. There are various indicators used to measure the competitiveness index of tourist destinations, including those from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WWTC), which include the Human Tourism Indicator, Price Competitiveness Indicator, Infrastructure Development Indicator, Environment Indicator, Technology Advancement Indicator, Human Resources Indicator, Openness Indicator, Social Development Indicators. In general, these indicators are relatively general and not local specific in exploring the conditions and circumstances of a tourist attraction, even though this aspect is directly related to the conditions of a destination/tourist attraction. The aim of this research is to assess destination performance using indicators in the aspects of attractions/tourism objects, infrastructure, access, and services/management. In this study, data came from 50 tourists (n=50). The analysis used is the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) Model to create a ranking of various attributes of Tourism Villages which concerns 4 aspects, namely tourist attractions, facilities (amenities), access/affordability (access), and services. additional (ancillary), by analyzing which attributes have a level of correspondence between the level of importance and the level of performance. Based on the results of the analysis, the main indicators that must be improved are additional services, and attractions are still felt to not meet respondents' expectations. The management of Braga Tourism Village needs to improve the quality of its services, especially related to information services and cleaning staff, while the quality of services which are considered to be good needs to be maintained in order to provide comfort for visitors. The results obtained from Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) will be used to determine the right strategy to improve the company's performance.

Bond Market Development and Infrastructure Development Index; an Analysis of African Countries with the Portfolio Investment Bonds

This paper analyses the empirical relationship between portfolio investment bonds and Infrastructure development index in Africa. The study seeks to establish if there is a statistically significant relationship between the portfolio investment bonds and infrastructure development index in Africa. Panel data of 13 countries for the period of 9 years from 2013 to 2022 was adopted. The study is supported by positivism philosophical underpinnings, a quantitative approach, multiple case design. It is a triangulation of correlation, regression, and hypothesis -testing through the linear dynamic panel data Generalized method of Momentum (GMM) model. This model estimates the empirical relationship between the key variables under study. The results from the study indicate a significant positive relationship between the portfolio dollar amount logged twice from the world bank data indicators and the infrastructure index from the Africa Infrastructure development Indicator (AIDI) also logged twice based on the model requirements. Therefore, countries that receive higher portfolio dollar amounts realize more infrastructure development. It is therefore recommended for African countries to create a Political, Economic and Regulatory supportive policies for bond market development especially the portfolio investment bonds. This paper ascertains a relationship between bond market development and Africa infrastructure development index. And develops policy discussions regarding infrastructure financing though a well-developed bond market with a variety of bond types

A Comparative Analysis of the Determinants of Foreign Direct Investment: The Case of Top Ten Recipients of Foreign Direct Investment in Africa

Through mechanisms including knowledge transfer and productivity spillovers, foreign direct investment (FDI) is viewed as a critical driver of growth in developing economies. However, the majority of African nations require capital inflows, particularly foreign direct investment (FDI), as a result of insufficient capital accumulation. The capacity of African governments to deliver top-notch infrastructure and social services has been diminished as a result. However, there has not been any independent research on how FDI inflows have affected Africa’s top 10 nations between 1970 and 2021. Most studies on the subject overlooked the impact of institutional quality on FDI inflows and omitted pertinent indicators of infrastructure development. The purpose of this article is to present a comparative analysis of the factors influencing the top ten beneficiaries of FDI in Africa. The ARDL bound test was employed to confirm the co-integration of the variables over the long term. The major goal is to confirm the relationship between the short- and long-term determinants of foreign direct investment in the top ten African recipients. This estimation was performed based on the unique characteristics of each country to make comparisons and inferences easier. The results of the limit test demonstrated the existence of a long-term connection between the examined determinants. The study found that infrastructure gaps, poor domestic savings, and price inflation were some of the mitigating factors preventing FDI from entering these countries. Additionally, the study found poor governance, which may impede the growth of effective institutions and capital inflows. It is crucial that these nations undertake both fiscal and monetary policies in order to address these issues, draw in private investments that allow for significant economic activity, and boost their economies’ prosperity.

Daya Saing Sektor Pariwisata Dalam Meningkatkan Ekonomi Daerah Di Bali Dan D.I Yogyakarta Tahun 2017-2021

One of the sectors with local revenue is tourism. The study will look at the tourist attractions in Bali and D.I. Yogyakarta. In this study, eight indicators were employed, and the World Tourism Organization (WTO) was used to examine them. According to the study's findings, each parameter is carefully analyzed. DIY displays a higher Human Tourism Indicator (HTI) score than Bali, and higher Bali indicators can also be found on the Infrastructure Development Indicator (IDI), Environment Indicator (EI), and Openness Indicator (OI). In terms of the Price Competitiveness Index (PCI), Technology Indicator (TAI), Human Resources Index (HRI), Openness Index (OI), and Social Development Index (SDI), Bali enjoys a competitive advantage.

The Competitiveness of the Tourism Industry in West Sumatera with A Competitiveness Monitor Approach

Competitiveness is one of the criteria to determine the success and achievement of a better goal by a country in increasing income and economic growth[1,2]. This study aims to determine the high and low indicators that determine the competitiveness of the tourism sector and the level of competitiveness of the tourism sector in the cities in West Sumatra. In this study, the measurement of the competitiveness of the tourism industry uses eight indicators used by the World tourism organization (WTO) with competitiveness monitor approach[3]. This study uses secondary data. The analytical method used in this study is the tourism index, composite index and competitiveness index. The results of the analysis show that the competitiveness of tourism in the eight indicators is only the Infrastructure Development Indicator (IDI) which shows a low competitiveness value, while the other indicators have high competitiveness.

ANALISIS DAYA SAING PARIWISATA KABUPATEN SUMBAWA UNTUK MENINGKATKAN EKONOMI DAERAH

This study aims to analyze the measure of competitiveness and to analyze the competitiveness factors of the tourism industry in Sumbawa District. The type of this study was descriptive quantitative study. The methods used to collect data in this study were documentation and literature study. The data used in this study was secondary data. The data analysis tools used in this study were the tourism index, composite index, tourism competitiveness index and contribution analysis in which consist of contribution formula and contribution analysis scale. The results of the study showed that the tourism competitiveness of the eight indicators of variable infrastructure development indicator (IDI), the Environment Indicator determiner (EI), Human Resources Indicator (HRI), Social Development Indicator (SDI) showed high competitiveness value while the other eight indicators showed low value of competitiveness. The results of the analysis of the contribution of the tourism sector to the Local Revenue of Sumbawa Regency in 2017-2022 are in the very less category. The percentage contribution of the tourism sector to the PAD of Sumbawa Regency over the past six years has been below 10% (<10%).

Economic and social prerequisites for the development of the system of health care institutions of the Ternopil region

The article states that, in accordance with the basic law of Ukraine, the issue of health care is defined as the priority direction of the state, which is entrusted with the functions of shaping policy in the field of health care and monitoring its implementation. It is legislated that everyone has an inviolable right to health protection, society and the state as a whole are responsible to the modern and future generation for the level of health, the preservation of safe conditions for health and the preservation of the gene pool of Ukrainians. Ukraine introduces the principles of the English model, which manifests itself in the forms of private and family medicine, multi-source financing, insurance and high social standards. At the present stage of development, the process of adapting the national health care system to certain standards is taking place. This process is complicated by a number of political, economic, social and demographic factors. The most negative factors that significantly complicate the development of the health care system are the ongoing covid-19 pandemic and full-scale war. According to the results of the study, it was determined that the Ternopil region has a favorable transport and geographical location, the territory of the region is located in the inner part of Europe, with a mild continental climate and sufficient moisture, close to the borders of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. International transport routes pass through the region: road and rail links Berlin-Odessa and the Baltic-Black Sea. This geographical location creates opportunities for profitable placement of logistics centers, transport companies and wholesale markets. The development of the health care system is ensured not only by the availability of health care institutions, but also by favorable environmental factors, which include: economic, political, social and environmental indicators of the region's development. The analysis of the demographic situation in the region indicates unfavorable trends that are inherent in the entire territory of Ukraine, namely a decrease in the population, a decrease in the birth rate, high mortality rates, gender disparities, a significant aging of the population, which has an adverse effect on the development of the health care system. A significant impact on the health of the population has an environmental situation, which in recent years has tended to improve. In the Ternopil region there is a network of educational institutions that train medical specialists and thereby provide local resources to health care institutions in the region. The article analyzes entrepreneurial activity in the healthcare sector, which is quite high, increases the activity of small businesses, which intensifies competition and acts as one of the macroeconomic prerequisites for promoting the systemic development of the medical sphere. Negative factors influencing the development of the health care system have been identified, which include limited investment and financial resources and insufficient efficiency of management decisions. According to the results of the analysis, it is determined that the vast majority of indicators of infrastructure development are higher than the average in Ukraine.

Comparative study on infrastructure and export trade of the host country and OFDI efficiency of China

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) provides new opportunities and great space for China’s outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) cooperation, as evidenced in 2018 when it financed US$15.64 billion in 56 countries along this burgeoning economic path, targeting Europe, Africa, and Asia as its hot spots. However, most of the countries along the Belt and Road are low-growth, middle-income, and developing economies, and their infrastructure, export trade, and other factors play an important role in the security and efficiency of OFDI. Therefore, this research selects 60 countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa as the objects and uses the common boundary SBM model to calculate the investment efficiency of 7 indicators from 2013 to 2017. The results show a significant regional gap in the efficiency of China’s total foreign investment. The efficiency scores of European countries are generally better than those of Asian and African countries, while the technology gaps of countries in Asia and Europe are higher than that in Africa. The efficiencies of three major indicators, FDI, infrastructure development indicator (IDI), and export trade (ET), exhibit four types of distribution. Therefore, it is necessary to coordinate and optimise the proper investment layout, enhance China’s investment quality in countries along the Belt and Road, strengthen exchanges and cooperation between think tanks, and promote further construction of BRI.

Digital infrastructure as the factor of innovative development of Arctic regions in framework of Industry 4.0 concept

The purpose of the article is studying of the impact of the level of digital infrastructure development on formation of Industry 4.0 in Arctic regions of Russian Federation. The study objects are four arctic territories of Russian Federation, namely, Murmansk region, Yamalo Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, Chukotka Autonomous District and Nenets Autonomous District. The methodological basis for the study is assessment of the level of regional digital infrastructure through analysis of separate indicators and calculation of the integrated indicator. The data of the Russian Federal statistic agency and its branches for period of 2014-2019 were used for assessment and analysis. The results highlight the not very positive dynamics of integrated digital infrastructure development indicator since the level of it has a tendency or stagnate or grow slowly. The formation of Industry 4.0 that requires to combine internal enterprise’s computerized design and automated machinery with ecommerce and Internet of Things in one integrated ebusiness system, is looking problematic in current situation for analyzed regions. The authors formulated the limitations for the study and defined the directions of the future research.

Зовнішній вигляд та інфраструктура міст сучасної Луганщини у ХІХ – на початку ХХ ст. за матеріалами статистичних джерел

The article, based on statistical materials collected and published by the official bodies of the Russian Empire, analyzes the appearance and infrastructure of cities in the modern Luhansk region during the XIX – early XX centuries. The main attention is paid to the cities that had official status – Starobilsk, Slavyanoserbsk, Luhansk. At the same time, the statistics included the largest rural settlements (Bilovodsk, Svatova Luchka, etc.), information about which is also taken into account. Quantitative characteristics of urban development (building materials, paving and street lighting, etc.) are studied. The issues of introduction of technical innovations in cities – telegraph, telephone, water supply, removal of household waste, as well as the state of public transport – were considered separately. Another indicator under consideration is the provision of infrastructure to fulfill the social function of cities - the situation of educational and medical affairs, firefighting, police and others. It was found that in the second half of the XIX century. New establishments of trade and public catering developed rapidly, which was connected with the strengthening of the trade function not only of the official cities, but also of some settlements (Bilovodsk, Svatova Luchka). Quantitative indicators of infrastructure development in the cultural sphere are considered separately. It is concluded that the development of a specific urban environment in the modern Luhansk region in the XIX – early XX centuries. took place in the stream of general trends, but on a smaller scale. A certain exception was Luhansk, whose pace of modernization was the highest.

Tourism Industry Competitiveness of Semarang Municipality

This study aims to analyze competitiveness level of tourism industry in Semarang Municipality. The data used in this research are secondary data from Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS/BPS) and Culture and Tourism Office of Semarang Municipality. Moreover, this study uses an analytical tool, i.e competitiveness monitor (CM) method. The result shows that Semarang Municipality has several lower indicators of competitiveness calculation than Surakarta Municipality and Magelang Regency, i.e. Human Tourism Indicator (HTI), Environment Indicator (EI), and Human Resources Indicator (HRI). On the other hand, Semarang Municipality also has some higher competitiveness calculation indicators compared to that of Surakarta Municipality and Magelang Regency in Price Competitiveness Indicator (PCI), Infrastructure Development Indicator (IDI), Openness Indicator (OI) and Social Development Indicator (SDI). The improvement of tourism competitiveness in Semarang Municipality requires synergy from many parties, including the government, business actors in tourism sector (hotel owners, travel bureaus), private sector and academics.

Infrastructure development and industrial sector productivity in Sub-Saharan Africa

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to examine whether the state of infrastructure development in Sub-Saharan Africa actually stimulates industrial sector productivity, using a panel data set of 17 countries spanning from 2003 to 2018.Design/methodology/approachThe study used panel least square estimation technique to examine the relationship between the variables.FindingsThe result of the study indicates that the major factor that influences industrial sector productivity in Sub-Saharan Africa is their quantity and quality of telecommunication infrastructure. Analysis shows that the relatively low level of industrial sector productivity in Sub-Saharan Africa is largely due to their poor electricity and transport infrastructure and underutilization of water supply and sanitation infrastructure.Practical implicationsThe government should partner with other developed countries of the world such as Germany, Japan, Sweden, Netherlands, Austria, Singapore, United States of America, United Kingdom, Switzerland and United Arab Emirates, which are the top ten countries in infrastructure ranking as currently released by the World Bank, to equally extend their quality infrastructure to their own country for enhanced industrialization.Originality/valueThe novelty of this research lies on the fact it is a cross-country study as against the few empirical studies that focused only on a single country. Also, the study made use of the four main indicators of infrastructure development in an economy, which are electricity infrastructure, transport infrastructure, telecommunication infrastructure and water supply and sanitation infrastructure, to examine its effect on industrial sector productivity in Sub-Saharan Africa.

ОЦІНКА СТАНУ ІНФРАСТРУКТУРИ РЕГІОНАЛЬНОГО РИНКУ ТУРИСТИЧНИХ ПОСЛУГ

The study of the impact of infrastructure on the development of the regional market of tourist services is an urgent issue of modern economic research, since the efficiency of tourism development, the level of use of the natural, cultural and historical potential of the region is largely determined by the capabilities of the existing tourist infrastructure. The purpose of the article is to assess the existing infrastructure of the market for tourism services in the Transcarpathian region, identify problems in the infrastructure provision of tourism and determine the degree of the impact of infrastructure on the development of tourism in the region. The article examines the essence, factors of influence of the infrastructure of the regional market of tourist services on its development. The study and assessment of the state of development of tourism infrastructure has been carried out based on summarizing statistical data and calculating individual indicators that take into account the level of development of infrastructure elements: accommodation infrastructure, catering, leisure and entertainment, transport, utilities, environmental, border infrastructure, and health and safety infrastructure. A comparative analysis of the indicators of the level of infrastructure development of the regional tourist services market with the average indicators of the regions of Ukraine has been carried out and the rank (place) of the indicator among similar values of the indicators of the regions of Ukraine has been determined. Based on the generalization of the data obtained, a number of interrelated and interdependent problems of the development of the infrastructure of the market of tourist services in the Transcarpathian region have been identified. The scientific novelty of the results obtained is in comparing indicators of infrastructure development and identifying problem areas for tourism development. The practical significance lies in highlighting the main problems of infrastructure provision of the tourist services market for their priority solution. Prospects for further research is the development of the concept of an optimal model of the infrastructure of the market for tourism services in the Transcarpathian region, taking into account the specifics of tourism development in the region. РОЗВИТОК ІНСТИТУЦІЙНОГО СЕРЕДОВИЩА МІЖНАРОДНОЇ ЕКОНОМІЧНОЇ БЕЗПЕКИ В СУЧАСНИХ УМОВАХ

The article is devoted to the modern components definition of the international institutional environment of international economic security and the ways of its development. Deepening globalization has increased the need for international coordination and the creation of a global institutional framework. The institutional mechanism for ensuring economic security is formed by institutions and instruments for ensuring economic security: instruments of universal (legislative base) and local controls (orders, agreements, etc.) that have a direct or indirect impact. The institutions development in society should ensure a decrease in the level of environmental uncertainty, since economic institutions help reduce the information asymmetry on the basis of which economic decisions are made, overall coordination is ensured, etc. Important indicators of infrastructure development are indices, ratings, and monitoring, used by the world community to assess the performance of institutions in countries, government, competitiveness, etc. It is determined that institutions ensure the development of the economic system as a whole, they should include not only institutions at the national level, but also supranational, since it is the actions of the latter that enhance the ability of the national system to counteract negative external factors and risks. Institutions may differ both in formal terms (public authorities and local governments), and in informal ones (civil society institutions). It is proved that the modern phenomenon of security as a multistructure system is determined by its integrative nature, characterized by a hierarchical structure and a combination of corresponding components – vertical (security components that are due to the existing hierarchy) and horizontal (functional links between components are determined by the internal-functional structure), external and internal components, and corresponding integrated communications are established between them. Accordingly, each level of international economic security is characterized by proper institutional support.

PERAN KEBIJAKAN PUBLIK DALAM MENINGKATKAN DAYA SAING PARIWISATA DI KOTA AMBON PROVINSI MALUKU

This study aims to understand the importance of public policy roles in four indicators of tourism competitiveness according to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) including Human Tourism Indicator (HTI), Infrastructure Development Indicator (IDI), Social Development Indicator (SDI), and Price Competitiveness Indicator (PCI). An exploratory research method was used to understand the success of tourism public policy in improving the tourism competitiveness in Ambon City. The results found that there was a need of bottom-up policy to encourage the community and private sectors to be creative in producing the expected output. In addition, there was also a need of development policy to provide road access and improve sanitation facilities in touristy destinations so that the community could experience a trickledown effect. Furthermore, policies on creating a balance between the price of commodities consumed and available facilities for the tourists and protecting them from crimes. Therefore, it is expected that the policies issued by the Local Government of Ambon City could improve the tourism competitiveness and community welfare, which simultaneously could increase the Locally-Generated Revenue of Ambon City.

Competitiveness Monitor in Measuring the Competitiveness Level of Tourist Villages in Indonesia

The tourism sector is expected to be the savior of the economy in Indonesia, amid the weakening rupiah exchange rate. This research was conducted with the aim to measure the level of competitiveness of tourist villages in Indonesia. This research is important because of the contribution it makes to the tourism village development which is one of the tools to alleviate poverty in rural areas. Tourism village communities are required to play an active role in the village tourism business, in order to improve their own welfare using their own potential and capabilities. The study was conducted in the village of Ngrawan, Semarang Regency, Indonesia. The Competitiveness Monitor, built by the World Travel and Tourism Council, is the analytical tool used to measure the level of tourism competitiveness in this study. The measurements used in the Competitiveness Monitor consist of the Tourism Participation Index, Purchasing Power Parity, Infrastructure Development Indicators, Environment Indicators, Technology Advancement Indicators, Human Resources Indicators, Open Indicators, and Social Development Indicators. These indicators are then used as the basis for mapping the tourist village competitiveness index. The results of the study indicate that the tourist village of Ngrawan occupies a top position, among other tourist villages. This is evidenced by its ranking position based on the tourist village attributes. These attributes include product services that affect customers. However, the products are not what customer's look for, so, customers tend to be dissatisfied. The attributes that are considered superior in the tourist village of Ngrawan, are the Openness Indicator and Social Development Indicator. Nevertheless, the village is low in value with attributes relate to Technology Advancement Indicator Attribute, Tourism Participation Index, Infrastructure Development Indicator and Environment. These attributes are related to indicators of competitiveness unlike to other tourist villages. This finding is the basic information that the Indonesian government can use to formulate tourism sector development policies so as to achieve success in developing tourism villages.

Infrastructure, trade facilitation, and network connectivity in Sub-Saharan Africa

This paper uses new measures of value added in exports in two sectors (textiles and clothing, and agriculture) to examine the linkages between trade facilitation and infrastructure on the one hand, and value chain participation on the other. It applies network analysis methods to derive a summary measure of value chain connectivity for 189 countries, including 44 in Sub-Saharan Africa. There is a statistically significant association between this measure and summary indicators of infrastructure development and trade facilitation performance. Moreover, it is not only a country's own performance that matters, but also that of its neighbors. The regional dimension of infrastructure and trade facilitation policies is an important determinant of particularly SSA countries' ability to connect to global value chains.

From these indicators, we measure tourism competitiveness index and classify the region in green, grey or red area of tourism competitiveness. The result of analysis indicates the Surakarta region is classified in grey area region of tourism competitiveness. The result also indicates the position of tourism competitiveness of Surakarta region with Yogyakarta region. The government has to develop the tourism sector by analysis the indicators which determine the tourism competitiveness because the tourism sector gives the added revenues for the region. It is very important, whichever Adisumarmo airport (Surakarta) is one of the international airport in Indonesia. Technology and quality improvements in Mexican companies: some international comparisons

Abstract This paper focuses on selected initiatives oriented towards technological improvements of performance in Mexican companies and betterment of the quality of Mexican products. These aspects are examined quantitatively and qualitatively. Data on research and development (R&D) and education expenditures, indicators of infrastructure development, technology adoption rates, and level of skills, and features of corporate and national cultures are used in analyses. Two restructuring approaches—Business Process Reengineering (BPR) and Total Quality Management (TQM)—are explored from the perspective of their applicability to Mexican conditions. It is observed that substantial problems can be expected when implementing them in Mexico when trying to improve quality and technological indicators of performance. Some suggestions regarding restructuring procedures are outlined.
