Linkage between online banking service quality and customers

Banks have expanded the scope of competition to an e-environment with online banking. The commercial banks in India are introducing online banking to their customers in order to retain their customers from the competition given by foreign banks. Even though, these are so many empirical studies related online banking service quality and customers satisfaction. Hence, the present study has an attempt to fill up the research gap. The findings of the study reveals that the online customers service quality, online information system quality and banking service product quality are significantly and positively influencing thecustomer satisfaction.

Developing an Online Information System Prototype for Global Satellite Precipitation Algorithm Validation and Intercomparison

Abstract Over the decades, significant progress has been made in satellite precipitation product development. In particular, temporal resolution and timely availability have been improved by blended techniques. The resulting products, including near-real-time precipitation products, are widely used in various research and applications. However, the lack of support for user-defined areas or points of interest poses a major obstacle to quickly gaining knowledge of product quality and behavior on a local or regional scale. Current online operational intercomparison and validation services have not addressed this issue adequately. This paper describes an ongoing work to develop an online information system prototype for global satellite precipitation algorithm validation and intercomparison, to overcome current shortcomings by providing dynamic and customized information to users on the expected bias and accuracy of the products, and to give algorithm developers a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different algorithmic approaches and data sources. An example is provided to illustrate the functionality and capabilities of the system, and future plans are discussed. The system being developed complements and accelerates the existing and ongoing validation activities in the community and contributes to the current NASA Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission and the future NASA Global Precipitation Mission.

On-line Monitoring for Phosphorus Removal Process and Bacterial Community in Sequencing Batch Reactor

For efficient energy consumption and control of effluent quality, the cycle duration for a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) needs to be adjusted by real-time control according to the characteristics and loading of wastewater. In this study, an on-line information system for phosphorus removal processes was established. Based on the analysis for four systems with different ecological community structures and two operation modes, anaerobic-aerobic process and anaerobic-anaerobic process, the characteristic patterns of oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) and pH were related to phosphorous dynamics in the anaerobic, anoxic and aerobic phases, for determination of the end of phosphorous removal. In the operation mode of anaerobic-aerobic process, the pH profile in the anaerobic phase was used to estimate the relative amount of phosphorous accumulating organisms (PAOs) and glycogen accumulating organisms (GAOs), which is beneficial to early detection of ecology community shifts. The on-line sensor values of pH and ORP may be used as the parameters to adjust the duration for phosphorous removal and community shifts to cope with influent variations and maintain appropriate operation conditions.

An examination of the relationship between service quality dimensions, overall internet banking service quality and customer satisfaction

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationships among three dimensions of service quality that influence overall internet banking service quality and its subsequent effect on customer satisfaction in a New Zealand banking context.Design/methodology/approach – Internet banking service customers of a national bank in New Zealand completed a self‐administered questionnaire. Data obtained from the customers were analysed using the SEM‐based partial least squares (PLS) methodology.Findings – The results show significant relationships among online customer service quality, online information system quality, banking service product quality, overall internet banking service quality and customer satisfaction.Originality/value – Little attention has been given in the literature to understanding the service quality dimensions that influence overall internet banking service quality and the specific outcome of customer satisfaction. A Personal Computer-Based Undergraduate Medical School Curriculum Using SOLE

Background: We describe our experience with a personal computer and Web-based undergraduate curriculum for preclinical medical students using the Secure Online Environment (SOLE) education and information system. Description: To test the potential effectiveness of SOLE as a learning tool, we analyzed the patterns of SOLE usage, usage intensity, and consistency among medical students in two preclinical courses (4th-year Human Function and 5th-year Pathology) and attempted to link these indicators to academic performance. Categories of SOLE usage included number of website log-ins and number of pages viewed per course. Evaluation: We found that A- and B-grade 4th-year students accessed course materials more frequently than did C- to failing-grade students, and both median and mean number of SOLE log-ins declined as student performance decreased. Higher-graded students were also more consistent in their usage of SOLE than were lower graded students. The range of log-in numbers (variability in frequency of usage) was greater for C- to failing-grade students than for A- and B-grade students. Compared to their 4th-year counterparts, 5th-year students increased their intensity of SOLE usage (indicated by the number of pages viewed) dramatically and numbers were comparable for A- and B-grade and for C- to failing-grade students. Consistency of usage, however, still remained higher for better performing students. Furthermore, students preferred SOLE to a traditional paper-based curriculum and felt it improved teaching effectiveness. Based on usage data and student preferences and perceptions we found Web-based SOLE to be an effective and well-accepted educational tool for preclinical medical students. Conclusions: This integrative, online educational and information system offers numerous opportunities and advantages for self-assisted instruction that can serve as a foundation for clinical training and professional lifelong learning.

DigiStylus: A Socio-Technical Approach to Teaching and Research in Paleography

After a short overview of the results obtained by t he use of information systems for teaching and research in paleography, the problem of the student s’ access to information on the web is discussed. The difficulty students have in finding the “right” documents, among the ones freely available in the site of the “Materials for Latin p aleography”, can be considered a particular branch of the broader problem of finding information in the web. As a result it is first analyzed the use of semantic web to solve students’ problems , soon after the socio-technical approach in the planning and carrying out of a new information system for the management of teachinglearning materials is reported. The latter hypothes is, on the basis of the constructivist initial results, seems the best to meet the students’ needs. Evaluating Community Engagement through Argumentation Maps—A Public Participation GIS Case Study

Significant advances in public participation geographic information systems technology and online mapping platforms have not translated into enhanced citizen participation in democratic planning processes. This study contributes to addressing this gap by evaluating the engagement of members of an urban community in sustainable neighbourhood planning through argumentation mapping. The study provided an online public discussion forum, together with a neighbourhood map to which the participants could link their discussion contributions. On the basis of participation statistics, contents of contributions, and responses to a survey, we discuss the participants' technical and engagement experiences. The sixteen registered participants lived within or near the ‘Queen West Triangle’ in downtown Toronto, Canada. They rated themselves as experienced computer users and consequently found the participation in the online discussion forum to be easy. The contributions showed a great degree of interest and knowledge in the issues of sustainable community development. However, while the majority of participants also rated themselves as comfortable with map reading, they found the handling of the online neighbourhood map difficult and did not use the option to link their comments to the map.

Examining Perceived Justice In Business-To-Consumer E-Commerce: An organizational Justice Theory Perspective

This study examines the existence of perceived justice in business-to-consumer electronic commerce and its influence on consumer intentions. Perceived justice, a construct mainly examined in management and marketing literature, may play an important role in people’s decision making process when they shop online. Prior information system online trust research shed little light on this important issue. Based on the organizational justice, this study proposes that distributive justice, procedural justice, and interaction justice constitute three dimensions of perceived justice in business-to-consumer electronic commerce. The validity of perceived justice is examined in a nomological network with trusting beliefs and purchase intentions

Business administration students' perception of usability of the Business Source Premier database

PurposeThe current article is a research study examining user perception of the usability of an online information system used by business administration students. The online database which it aims to examine is Business Source Premier, which is incorporated in a larger platform of databases called EBSCO. The findings of this research will help with the efficient management of this information service as well as improve the application of this database in an academic library setting.Design/methodology/approachConvenience sampling procedure was used for recruiting participants. The entire class of 22 students taught at Medgar Evers College of CUNY participated in this survey. Users evaluated this database using Oulanov's usability tool, which entails the following eight criteria: Affect, Adaptability, Control, Helpfulness, Efficiency, User Effort, Measures of Effectiveness, and Retrieval Features.FindingsBusiness Source Premier was rated highest in terms of efficiency. Some improvement might be necessary to increase the helpfulness of the system. User effort is another usability criterion that scored lower than the others. Other usability components, including affect, adaptability, control, measures of effectiveness, and retrieval features, were rated highly. The overall performance of Business Source Premier is high and possible paths for improvement are likewise offered.Originality/valueThis case study provided usability assessment of an online business information system used by business administration students, identifying its strong and weak points. This investigation showed that Business Source Premier is efficient and effective tool for conducting research in the field of business administration.

Development of a complex instrument measuring dose in the Van Allen belts

One of the many risks of long-duration space flights is the excessive exposure to cosmic radiation. The objectives of this project are to develop a complex instrument comprising a Geiger–Muller counter and a three-dimensional (3D) silicon detector telescope (TriTel) in order to characterise the cosmic radiation in the Van Allen belts and to determine the radiation quality factor and the dose equivalent when and where it is feasible. The research and development of TriTel began in the Hungarian Academy of Sciences KFKI Atomic Energy Research Institute several years ago. The instrument presented in this paper will be mounted onboard a European satellite (European Student Earth Orbiter, ESEO) in geostationary transfer orbit. Elements of the TriTel system, issues of the electronic block diagram, requirements for the mechanical construction and the main data processing algorithms have been analysed. Monte Carlo simulations have been performed in order to investigate the dead time behaviour of TriTel. In order to give a rough estimation of the expected fluxes of protons and electrons in orbit, calculations were made with the space environment information system online tool.

Mining e‐services in P2P‐based workflow enactments

PurposeThis paper aims to explore the feasible mining and proper selection of QoS‐aware services for a P2P‐based business process enactment framework, and enhance the relevant workflow prototype. Design/methodology/approach – Through observing and analysing unpredictable dynamic changes that commonly exist in e‐service workflow, a set of QoS specifications and monitoring mechanisms in a P2P workflow framework is proposed. These specifications are an evolving extension of services' description with semantic web facilitators for P2P‐based e‐services.FindingsIt has been demonstrated that the QoS‐OWL approach can be effectively used to describe and exploit e‐services, particularly in a decentralised environment. QoS‐OWL is also able to provide the deliberation of geographic information for e‐services, and facilitates the peers' effective cooperation and automates business processes. It is recommended that the approach be adopted in the dynamic online information system environment to increase efficiency and reduce costs in running e‐services.Practical implicationsThe QoS attributes discussed in this paper are relatively typical for benchmarking purposes, so the extension of the QoS metrics specifications and related protocols need to be discussed in future work.Originality/valueThe authors propose an approach to dynamically selecting appropriate service‐oriented peers in a P2P network, where the composition of e‐services in a business process can be enhanced significantly. The approach is based on ontology and QoS perspectives, and the descriptions of services have rich semantic features in an attempt to make the service selection more intelligent and reliable. Therefore the proposal offers e‐service providers innovative initiatives to re‐engineer their business services.

Design and field test of an automatic data acquisition system in a self-propelled forage harvester

In this study an online information and documentation system for the performance data of a forage harvester was developed and tested. A data acquisition system with positioning sensing and a communication module were integrated into the harvester. The data were transferred from the mobile equipment to the co-operative's control centre in two ways: short message service (SMS) and manually. The following online information was recorded: performance data (operation speed, location, harvested yield, …), machine settings (knife drum speed, …) and machine warnings (oil levels, oil pressure, oil temperature, …). Harvester position on the maps was displayed on a monitor installed in the cab. Harvested area was calculated from the field patterns registered by global positioning system (GPS). It was necessary to adapt the existing cartography to the reality of the co-operative's land. In the first design of the mounted prototype the operator's ease of use and the reliability of the system were analyzed. At this stage operation and ergonomic improvements were made. An evaluation was done by comparing the costs of processing the current information with the costs following the implementation of the new system. In a second investigation a first analysis was done of the recorded time to harvest each field and then regression lines were plotted to compare the field capacity value collected by the system with the field size and the crop yield. Correlations between the field capacity of the forage harvester, the area of the plot and the crop yield were found in these first tests.

TriTel-S: Development of a complex dosimetry instrument for a satellite in geostationary transfer orbit

One of the many risks of long-duration space flights is the excessive exposure to cosmic radiation, which may have serious consequences particularly during solar flares and higher solar activity. Since space radiation mainly consists of charged heavy particles, the equivalent dose differs significantly from the absorbed dose. The objectives of this project, which began in the KFKI Atomic Energy Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences several years ago, are to develop a three-dimensional silicon detector telescope ( TriTel) and to develop software for data evaluation of the measured energy deposition spectra. A version of TriTel will be installed onboard a European satellite (ESEO) in a highly eccentric orbit crossing, the Van Allen belts. The instrument will encounter high fluxes of trapped electron radiation in a considerable part of the orbit. In order to give a rough estimate of the expected fluxes and spectra of protons and electrons in orbit, calculations were made with the Space Environment Information System (SPENVIS) online tool. The number of electron coincidences and the deposited energy spectra of electrons were calculated with the Monte Carlo simulation-based software MUlti-LAyered Shielding SImulation Software (MULASSIS). The description of the instrument, the expected environment in orbit and the evaluation of the results of the preliminary simulations are discussed in this paper.

Monitoring of Plant Pests and Diseases as a Base of the Germany-Wide Online Decision Support System ISIP

The German federal extension services provide an online information system for Integrated Plant Protection. One of the main elements is the monitoring of plant diseases such as Potato late blight. The monitoring results are linked with comments of the actual situation made by the regional extension officer and they are linked with geographical and agriculture-related information of the monitoring sites and automatically prognosis models for special diseases. The monitoring is carried out by the regional extension officers and the data are placed directly without a time lag into the internet. Information can be used by farmers and other extension officers for an evaluation of the disease situation in their special region.

The role of online and offline features in sustaining virtual communities: an empirical study

PurposeBy expanding the technology acceptance model, the purpose of this paper is to provide a research model to examine the impact of online (information quality, system quality and service quality) and offline (offline activities) features on the sustainability of virtual communities.Design/methodology/approach– Based on a survey of 165 community members, the paper uses structural equation modeling approach to investigate the research model.FindingsThe findings indicate that perceived of usefulness, perceived ease of use and offline activities are determinants of sustainability of virtual communities. In addition, information quality affects perceived usefulness, while system‐quality and service quality influence both perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness of virtual communities.Research limitations/implicationsSince this study only considered non‐profit virtual communities, it is unclear whether these analytical results can be generalized to other virtual communities. Further research can apply this research model to examine profit‐oriented virtual communities, such as eBay.com.tw or brand communities.Practical implicationsTo sustain a successful virtual community, attention must be paid to enhance both online and offline interactions, including content management, specific sets of web site functions and offline communication. Virtual community providers can apply the findings of this study to focus on the determinants of success for their virtual communities.Originality/valueTheoretically, while drawing upon the extended TAM, this paper provides a model that is capable of understanding the determinants of sustainability of virtual communities. From a managerial perspective, the findings should provide further insight into member behaviors, leading to more effective strategies for expanding the virtual community.

The relationship between self-esteem and self-efficacy among distance learning students in Accounting Information Systems online classes

Student success and self-esteem while involved with distance learning can be defined in many ways. Studies indicated there could be a relationship between distance learning and self-esteem among college students in many disciplines including Accounting and Accounting Information Systems (AIS). Although research exists on success and distance learning, limited research can be identified on self-esteem and self-efficacy in AIS online courses. AIS continues to be an ever-changing discipline because of technology and changing needs of the global environment. This study will be important to students, advisors, faculty members and distance-learning software providers such as WebCT.

BackgroundAdaptative immune repertoire diversity in vertebrate species is generated by recombination of variable (V), diversity (D) and joining (J) genes in the immunoglobulin (IG) loci of B lymphocytes and in the T cell receptor (TR) loci of T lymphocytes. These V-J and V-D-J gene rearrangements at the DNA level involve recombination signal sequences (RSS). Whereas many data exist, they are scattered in non specialized resources with different nomenclatures (eg. flat files) and are difficult to extract.DescriptionIMGT/GeneInfo is an online information system that provides, through a user-friendly interface, exhaustive information resulting from the complex mechanisms of T cell receptor V-J and V-D-J recombinations. T cells comprise two populations which express the αβ and γδ TR, respectively. The first version of the system dealt with the Homo sapiens and Mus musculus TRA and TRB loci whose gene rearrangements allow the synthesis of the αβ TR chains. In this paper, we present the second version of IMGT/GeneInfo where we complete the database for the Homo sapiens and Mus musculus TRG and TRD loci along with the introduction of a quality control procedure for existing and new data. We also include new functionalities to the four loci analysis, giving, to date, a very informative tool which allows to work on V(D)J genes of all TR loci in both human and mouse species. IMGT/GeneInfo provides more than 59,000 rearrangement combinations with a full gene description which is freely available at .ConclusionIMGT/GeneInfo allows all TR information sequences to be in the same spot, and are now available within two computer-mouse clicks. This is useful for biologists and bioinformaticians for the study of T lymphocyte V(D)J gene rearrangements and their applications in immune response analysis.

VICTORIA: an on-line information system on the lichens of Victoria Land (Continental Antarctica)

VICTORIA is an on-line information system on the lichens of Victoria Land (Continental Antarctica). It provides descriptions and pictures of taxa, as well as nomenclatural, taxonomic, distributional and ecological data. Moreover, VICTORIA offers two interactive identification tools, dichotomous and multi-criteria keys, to the species. Friendly interfaces, optimized hierarchy of characters and multi-criteria filters based on easy-to-observe characters facilitate the identification process. At present VICTORIA provides information on 57 species occurring in the Terra Nova Bay area.
