Analysis of the Role of the Karo Ethnic Young Generation in Preserving the Karo Language Amid the Challenges of Modernity

This research aims to analyze the role of the young generation of Karo ethnicity in preserving the Karo language, especially amidst the challenges of modernity. The Karo language, as part of the cultural identity of the Karo ethnic group, is experiencing a shift in usage among the younger generation due to the influence of modernization, urbanization and the dominance of national and international languages. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method, which utilizes various written sources such as scientific journals and academic articles. Through this method, researchers examine the factors that influence the awareness, attitudes and actions of the younger generation in preserving the Karo language. The research results show that although the younger generation's awareness of the importance of the Karo language is quite high, the practice of using this language is still limited. The main challenges faced include the dominance of Indonesian and foreign languages, lack of support from family, and the influence of digital technology. However, with the right strategy, such as the integration of formal and informal education and the use of digital media, efforts can be made to preserve the Karo language. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the development of local language preservation policies, including the Karo language.

Digital entrepreneurship! Nexus among industry 4.0 enablers, environmental dynamism and SMEs environmental performance: a mediated-moderated perspectives

PurposeThere is currently a lack of comprehensive examination in the research field exploring the relationship between digitalization and environmental performance (EP) in manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This study investigates the relationship between digital technologies, digital organizational culture (DOC), environmental dynamism and EP through the mediation of innovation capacity (IC) and moderation of perceived environmental volatility and green strategic intent (GSI).Design/methodology/approachThe data were gathered from 473 managers of manufacturing SMEs in Pakistan. Partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied to examine the mediation and moderation effects. Multiple regression analysis was used to see the influence of digital technologies, DOC, environmental dynamism, innovation capacity, perceived environmental volatility and GSI on SMEs environmental performance.FindingsResults indicate a statistically significant direct relationship between digital technologies, environmental dynamism and EP. While there is an insignificant direct relationship between DOC and EP. Furthermore, the results reported a significant result between digital technologies, DOC, environmental dynamism and IC. Similarly, IC significantly mediated the relationship between digital technologies, DOC, environmental dynamism and EP. Moreover, results reported that perceived environmental volatility does not moderate the relationship between IC and EP, while GSI significantly moderates between IC and EP.Practical implicationsPolicymakers must emphasize advancing digital integration to enhance manufacturing SMEs’ efficiency and environmental effectiveness.Originality/valueThis is the first research that incorporates digital technologies, environmental factors and innovation capacity to measure environmental performance in line of natural resource orchestration theory (natural ROT). All the variables significantly measure environmental performance instead of digital organizational culture. Perceived environmental volatility also does not moderate.

Digital recognition: cybersecurity and internet infrastructure in UAE–Israel diplomacy

Abstract The 2020 Israel–UAE Abraham Accords normalized these states' relations, with heavy emphasis on digital technologies. International Relations theories of recognition, however, hardly consider the role digital technologies play in establishing recognition between states. What role, then, did digital technologies play in this landmark shift in UAE–Israel recognition? This article uses three aspects of digital technologies in the UAE–Israel case—cybersecurity cooperation, cloud computing, and subsea cables—to inductively develop three propositions regarding the role of digital technologies in state recognition. First, states use digital technologies—and private sector companies that own and operate them—as diplomatic lubrication: a means to navigate around and overcome difficult diplomatic relationships, building momentum towards recognition. Second, digital competition between states leads them to conform their national economic structures towards global technology companies in similar ways, thereby recognizing each other as equal participants in a global market—which we term market-oriented homogenization. Third, states involved in transnational internet infrastructure projects together develop technical working practices, interests, and dependencies that facilitate diplomatic recognition—which we term infrastructural integration. Building on these three propositions, we put forward an overall concept of ‘digital recognition’ to capture their common theme: the influence of digital technologies, their owners or their operators on state recognition.

Everyday life information seeking: A systematic review with bibliometric analysis

This study presents the first comprehensive systematic review and bibliometric analysis of the Everyday Life Information Seeking (ELIS) research domain, spanning nearly three decades of academic contributions. Initiated by Savolainen’s groundbreaking study in 1995, ELIS research has significantly progressed; however, to date, no researchers have undertaken a thorough overview of this field. Employing a mixed-methods approach, this study combines systematic review techniques with bibliometric analysis, aiming to bridge this gap. The methodology includes rigorous data filtration from the Web of Science and Scopus databases, amassing a total of 345 articles published between 1995 and 2023. Findings indicate a marked increase in ELIS publications and citations, particularly after 2008, underscoring a growing interest in everyday life information seeking. Analysis identified significant contributions from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Finland, and Australia. Thematic analysis unveiled three main research directions: the influence of digital technology on ELIS, information seeking in health scenarios, and diverse information needs and sources among specific user groups. Furthermore this study also proposes an integrative framework, emphasizing the importance of understanding information-seeking behaviors within the complex and diverse context of everyday life. It recognizes the necessity of incorporating various sociocultural perspectives and adapting to the continuously evolving digital environment. This framework serves as a valuable resource for scholars and practitioners dedicated to improving information services and interventions in daily life. The limitations of this study include language and database restrictions, as well as the exclusion of gray literature. Additionally, given the significant potential of integrating information seeking with technology to improve daily life, future research should focus on the foundational theoretical issue of how artificial intelligence technology is reshaping users’ ELIS behaviors.

Digital technology and Chinese-style industrial modernization: Dynamic threshold effect based on R&D Human resources

Based on the construction of digital technology evaluation index system, this paper builds a dynamic threshold regression model to explore the complex impact of digital technology on Chinese-style industrial modernization under the threshold of R&D human resources, taking 30 provinces as research objects. It has been found that China's digital technology index is continuously improving, but there is a digital gap among regions. The beneficial impact of digital technology on Chinese-style industrial modernization has been thoroughly validated. Considering the threshold effect of R&D human resources, the influence of digital technology on Chinese-style industrial modernization exhibits nonlinear characteristics. With R&D human resources crossing the first threshold, it has shown a significant positive effect on Chinese-style industrial modernization, and the middle range of R&D human resources presents the optimal interval of the relationship between the two. The research findings offer a theoretical framework for advancing the construction of Chinese-style modernization.

Integrating digitization into public administration: Impact on national security and the economy through spatial planning

The evolutionary development of the security sphere, on the one hand, and the rapid involvement of digital technologies (and, as a consequence, changes) on the other, formulate the first level of problematization of this study. The study seeks to provide evidence of how the dynamics of changes in the security sphere are formed by constructing an empirical model of changes and assessing the state security system within the framework of spatial planning under the influence of digital technologies. Particular attention in the study is paid to spatial planning and spatial development in smart cities the main threats to national security are systematized, located in closely intersecting planes of digital technologies, social processes, and economic interests. It is shown that areas covered by spatial planning, and particularly smart cities, pose a serious local threat to national and international security policy at the levels of political, social, technical, and economic governance.

It is concluded that workers’ skills in using digital technologies are becoming one of the determining factors in the labor market and affect a person’s status in work. Modern society needs a worker with a broad scientific and technical outlook and a desire to acquire new knowledge. The key trends in the digitalization process in the near future are highlighted, and recommendations are offered to employees for adapting to new changes in the labor market.

Determinants of customer buying behaviour in omnichannel retailing: a systematic literature review and future research directions

PurposeAdvances in digital technologies and the growing number of touch points have had a significant impact on the shopping behaviour of omnichannel customers. Several research papers have explored different facets of omnichannel, but only a few have thoroughly explored the literature on showrooming and webrooming simultaneously. This paper aims to identify the key groups of antecedents influencing customer buying behaviour in omnichannel, under the influence of digital technologies, with a particular focus on showrooming and webrooming.Design/methodology/approachOur study conducted a systematic literature review to identify the factors influencing customers’ buying behaviour in omnichannel, which have been the subject of academic discussion over the last decade. We finalized 149 articles for the thematic analysis and identified three groups of antecedents: channel-related, product-related and consumer-related with their subgroups.FindingsUnder channel-related antecedents, cost and perceived benefits, search convenience, need for interaction and situational circumstances have been identified as major attributes. The expressiveness of the product, product demonstration and search and experienced products have been identified under product-related antecedents, followed by price consciousness, past experiences, perceived risks and shopping motivations as leading attributes under consumer-related antecedents. The study revealed the multifaceted influence of digital technologies on omnichannel buying behaviour. Digital technologies are shaping the antecedents related to channels, products and consumers. Digital technologies simultaneously mediate between antecedents and the selection of a specific path within an omnichannel environment. Showrooming and webrooming should no longer be seen as general concepts. The rise of digital technologies has led to the development of new consumer journey patterns and the blurring of distinctions between showrooming and webrooming. A conceptual framework has been proposed to understand consumers' omnichannel behaviour, having considered the identified antecedents and the role of digital technologies.Practical implicationsThis study advances the academic understanding of consumer behaviour in omnichannel under the influence of digital technologies and provides important implications for omnichannel management. With the advancement of digital technologies such as augmented reality and virtual reality, retailers should implement channel integration strategies to bridge the gap between online and offline channels, providing a memorable shopping experience for omnichannel customers.Originality/valueThis study is unique because it identifies and analyses the antecedents of consumer behaviour in omnichannel settings under the influence of digital technologies. It also uncovers new potential combinations of showrooming and webrooming patterns. The proposed framework can help retailers in their future planning of omnichannel strategies.

Study on the Selection of Recycling Strategies for the Echelon Utilization of Electric Vehicle Batteries under the Carbon Trading Policy

Global climate change has prompted all sectors of society to take urgent action to reduce carbon emissions. Electric vehicles are the key to low-carbon transportation transformation, but their popularity has led to difficulties in disposing of used batteries. Improper handling will pollute the environment and violate the original goal of promoting low-carbon practices. Therefore, it is crucial to establish a sustainable battery-recycling and disposal system. This study uniquely incorporates the concept of battery echelon utilization into its analytical framework using a Stackelberg game model, exploring the equilibrium strategies for stakeholders in a closed-loop supply chain under carbon emission constraints. We analyzed the impact of multiple factors in the recycling process, as well as the influence of digital technology, on enterprise pricing, recycling efficiency, and the choice of recycling channels. The study found that the market pricing of batteries and electric vehicles is not influenced by recycling participants, but is instead related to the application of digital technology. Numerical simulations further reveal that the battery’s echelon utilization rate and carbon emission limit policies jointly motivate enterprises to be more proactive in recycling. In the joint recycling model, battery suppliers can achieve more substantial profit growth compared to electric vehicle manufacturers, providing new insights and directions for innovation and the development of collaborative models within the supply chain.

Influence of digital technologies on adolescents: a literature review

Objectives: To identify factors in digital information and communication devices that affect adolescents. Methods: A literature review was conducted involving research and analysis in a scientific database. Using inclusion and exclusion criteria, 8 articles were selected, providing significant insights into the topic. Results: The research, reading, and analysis of the obtained results highlighted four main themes: "Side effects of digital technology in adolescence"; "Adolescence shaped by digital technology"; "Digital adolescence: a call for further research"; and "Digital technology: not all thorns". Old wisdom and the New Economic Geography: Managing uncertainty in 21st century regional and urban development

The New Economic Geography (NEG) has over the past decades become a leading paradigm in regional science and geography. This paper seeks to provide a retrospective and prospective look into its achievements and current challenges. Clearly, regions are not oases of tranquility. Uncertainty and shocks in regional and urban development are omnipresent and call for adaptive and resilient strategies on spatial dynamics. The spatial arena is governed by many factors; this is mapped out in the present paper by means of a ‘Pentagon’ model of critical territorial capital inputs which form interdependent anchor points for policy and action based on the principle of confluence. The space-economy is multi-faceted and three prominent challenges in particular, are highlighted in this study: (i) the influence of digital technology on the standard NEG framework; (ii) the livability and proximity conditions in urban agglomerations, critically assessed through the lenses of the currently popular 15-minute city framework; (iii) the implications of social wellbeing and happiness motives for regional and urban planning in an NEG context. The conclusion of the study is that the NEG legacy and principles continue to be prominent signposts for regional and urban analysis and policy, conditional upon a flexible adaptivity of this legacy to new framework conditions in the ever-changing space-economy.

The use of innovative digital technologies can significantly increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve customer service. Objectives: Formation of a comprehensive theoretical approach to the impact of innovation transfer and organizational culture on improving logistics processes and achieving sustainable competitive advantages in the context of digital transformation. Methods: Empirical research methods include analysis and synthesis, SWOT analysis, grouping method, abstraction, and generalisation. Results: The study analyses the impact of digital transformation on logistics processes, examines the main trends and technologies that promote the digital transformation of logistics chains, assesses the impact on the efficiency and productivity of logistics processes, determines the significance of innovation in developing logistics strategies and enhancing companies' competitiveness, and outlines the factors that contribute to innovative activity in logistics companies. The influence of technological changes on digital competitiveness is substantiated based on the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking indicators for 2023. Countries worldwide are grouped according to their level of digital competitiveness, the impact of education, the implementation of innovations, and their readiness for transformational changes. The impact of innovation transfer on the competitive advantages of the logistics company Amazon is studied. Critical aspects of the organisational culture of digital transformation in modern conditions are outlined. A SWOT analysis of digital transformation in the logistics business is presented using the example of "Nova Poshta." Opportunities and threats to logistics entrepreneurship regarding competitive advantages in digital transformation are identified. Conclusions: The main directions of digital transformation for a logistics company are highlighted.

The Kajang community carries out its activities separately between Inner and Outer Kajang. Both spaces of communities have different standards in preserving one cultural art. The Inner Kajang community focuses on sacred traditional arts, while in the Outer Kajang community, the inherent traditions are profane. This community service is directed towards the goal of preserving/sustainability of the local culture of the Kajang community, which is being threatened by the influence of globalization, the influence of digital technology that enters the community, and the orientation of the Kajang Society which likes the world of modernity. As a result, sacred and profane traditional arts not attention, especially from the local younger generation. The method of community service is through training the younger generation of the Kajang community who come from the local community. Pabitte Pasappu Art Trainers come from local traditional leaders. This dedication succeeded in training the young generation of Kajang in an effort to maintain their art Pabitte Pasappu. The successful performance as shown on the YouTube channel of Prodi Ilmu Sejarah Unair became a benchmark for the success of this community service program, although in the not too distant future. The effectivity, time efficiency and intensity during training are key to achieving training targets.

How Does Digital Technology Inspire Global Fashion Design Trends? Big Data Analysis on Design Elements

Digital technology has changed every process of the fashion industry significantly. Using big data analysis methods such as text-mining, network, CONCOR, and content analyses, this study aims to understand the impact of digital technology trends from the fashion design perspective. The influence of digital technology on fashion design elements (e.g., color, print and graphic, textiles, and style and details) was evident through various keywords related to digital technology, humans, and nature, and the relationships between these keywords were confirmed. The analysis of the implicit meanings and directions of the derived keywords resulted in four clusters: (1) human- and nature-oriented design in the digital world as a new reality; (2) new textiles reflecting digital technology; (3) sustainable design technology; and (4) new utility fashion in the digital space. This study proposed a new design research methodology in which big data were incorporated and could be applied to educational curricula, allowing students to derive practical design elements through big data analysis and serving as a guide for planning and developing technology-inspired designs. Practically, it provided specific information on the direction of digital-technology-inspired fashion design trends, which could assist fashion designers and aspiring entrepreneurs in planning.
