Tinjauan Kritis Terhadap Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka di Madrasah Ibtidaiyah : Studi Kasus di Kecamatan Purwokerto Barat

The Merdeka Curriculum is present as a breath of fresh air in the world of Indonesian education, providing space and flexibility for madrasas to develop operational curricula that suit their particularities and needs. The implementation of the Independent Curriculum at the madrasa level has begun to roll out, bringing new hope for the progress of madrasa education in Indonesia. This research aims to identify the implementation of the independent curriculum in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah: Case Study in West Purwokerto District. This research uses a qualitative case study approach. This approach allows researchers to understand the phenomenon under study in depth, through analysis of specific cases in relevant environments. The results of the research explain that the implementation of the Merdeka MI Curriculum in West Purwokerto District is still in its early stages and faces various challenges. More intensive efforts from various parties are needed to ensure effective implementation of the Independent Curriculum and achieve its goal of improving the quality of education at MI. The implementation of this curriculum is indeed quite behind other elementary schools, but everything will proceed according to existing plans.‎

Feelings of inferiority as a catalyst for bullying behavior among Indonesian secondary school students: A literature review

Bullying remains a critical issue in Indonesian schools, identified by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology as one of the "3 deadly sins" in the education system alongside sexual violence and intolerance. Recent reports from the Federation of Indonesian Teachers' Unions (FSGI) indicate high rates of bullying across all school levels. However, current interventions largely focus on victim support, leaving the psychological roots of bullying behavior among perpetrators underexplored. This literature-based study investigates the role of feelings of inferiority as a key driver behind bullying behavior in adolescents. Drawing on Adlerian counseling theory, the study suggests that adolescents may resort to bullying as a way to mask feelings of inadequacy, seeking dominance to counter feelings of inferiority. Influencing factors, such as family environment, peer dynamics, and societal norms, contribute to this behavior. Using qualitative, descriptive analysis, findings underscore the need for therapeutic interventions that help perpetrators reframe their self-perceptions and set constructive life goals. Comprehensive support for both victims and perpetrators is necessary to address the root causes of bullying and foster a healthier school climate. Navigating classroom challenges and curriculum changes: A qualitative study of an English Teacher’s journey in the Indonesian education system

This article employs narrative inquiry to investigate the experiences of an English teacher, referred to as Dede (pseudonym), at a senior high school in West Java, Indonesia. The research question guiding this study is: ‘How does an English teacher in senior high school navigate and adapt his teaching approaches in response to curriculum changes in Indonesia?’ Using a semi-structured interview, this study provides a detailed analysis of Dede’s narratives to uncover the challenges faced by English educators in this setting and to highlight the sources of their motivation and dedication. The research focuses on four main themes: teaching journey; public versus private schools; curriculum stories; and policy and practice. The findings reveal the complex obstacles and dynamic changes in curriculum that English teachers navigate, offering valuable insights into the broader context of senior secondary education in Indonesia. By exploring Dede’s teaching path, this study contributes to the ongoing discussion of effective teaching strategies and the evolving landscape of English language education in West Java.

Racialised identities of multilingual teachers: stories, experiences and agentic action of Indonesian teachers in Australian schools

ABSTRACT In a context of increasing deficit discourses about multiculturalism and multilingualism, this study examined the racialised identities of multilingual Indonesian teachers in secondary schools in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. Informed by the Douglas Fir Group Framework (2016), the study unpacked teachers’ socio-cultural, and linguistic trajectories in schools to understand the ways in which they navigate, negotiate, and resist their racialised identities at micro, meso, and macro levels of activity. Through semi-structured interviews with six Indonesian teachers teaching Bahasa Indonesia in NSW schools, the study focused on three broad dimensions, namely: (i) teachers’ perceived racialised identities in connection with their students and colleagues in schools (micro); (ii) the perceived institutional practices that reproduce racialisation and marginalisation (meso); and (iii) the broader societal factors that contribute to ‘self’ and ‘other’ racialisation (macro). Thematic analysis of the interview data reveal that teachers identify systemic ‘thinking’ and ‘doing’ that essentialise their racialised identities, Additionally, the racialisation of Indonesian language teachers in broader societal contexts is influenced by systemic factors, including language policies and institutional structures. Findings suggest that despite the pervasive forces which perpetuate monolithic thinking in schools, teachers engage in agentic action that seeks to resist and overcome their racialised identities.

The significance of ethnomathematics learning: a cross-cultural perspectives between Indonesian and Thailand educators

PurposeEthnomathematics can help understand math concepts but is challenging in countries like Indonesia and Thailand due to its complexity. This study explores how math educators in these countries view integrating ethnomathematics into teaching. The purpose of this study is to see its importance in helping students understand and apply math concepts in different cultural settings. By looking at educators’ opinions, the study seeks strategies to effectively use ethnomathematics in education.Design/methodology/approachThe research used a mixed-methods approach with questionnaires and interviews to gather data from 138 Indonesian and 145 Thai educators, including lecturers, teachers and preservice teachers. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to classify responses. Qualitative data analysis involves reducing, presenting, concluding and validating data to ensure accuracy. This approach aimed to provide a complete understanding of educators’ views on ethnomathematics.FindingsThe quantitative results showed strong support among Indonesian educators (average score 4.77) for integrating cultural elements in math education. Thai educators were slightly less enthusiastic (average score 4.57), but still positive. Interviews revealed unique cross-cultural perspectives and emphasized the need for theoretical and practical applications of ethnomathematics in the classroom. This perspective highlights the importance of social context and interaction in learning and calls for innovative teaching methods that use students’ cultural backgrounds.Originality/valueThis study offers new insights into how Indonesian and Thai educators view ethnomathematics, considering their cultural contexts. It underscores the importance of adapting teaching approaches to fit each country’s cultural characteristics, showing the close link between ethnomathematics and cultural development.

Analisis Campur Kode Bahasa Batak Pada Saat Pembelajaran di Kelas X SMA YAPIM Merek Tahun Ajaran 2023/2024

The research was carried out with the title "Analysis of Batak Language Code Mixing When Learning Indonesian in Class The use of code mixing is the Batak regional language. The aim of this research is to determine the main causes of the use of code mixing during learning. This research methodology is a qualitative descriptive method. Data was obtained from class X students of YAPIM Brand High School and the results of interviews from Indonesian language teachers. Data collection techniques were carried out by interviewing, recording and taking notes. The results of this research are forms of code mixing in teacher and student conversations in Indonesian language learning in class X SMA YAPIM Brand, namely: a. Use of Toba Batak language code mixing, b. There are 76 code-mixed data, the forms of code-mixing use are 13 code-mixes of word insertion, 17 phrase insertions, 46 clause insertions, word and sentence insertions. Factors causing code mixing are: a. Students' proficiency in speaking two languages, including the Toba Batak regional language and Indonesian, b. Social environment, c. Contextual situation. However, Indonesian language interference is not eliminated by the presence of the regional language, it's just that students sometimes focus more on using the regional language instead of being in context when speaking with fellow students.

Pendidikan di Revolusi Industri 4.0: Studi Kasus Evaluasi Kurikulum Merdeka di Indonesia

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 has driven significant changes in the education system, including in Indonesia, with the introduction of the Independent Curriculum. The Industrial Revolution 4.0 has brought significant changes to various aspects of life, including the education sector. This era is marked by the integration of digital, physical, and biological technologies that change the way humans live, work, and learn. Education, as the foundation for human resource development, must adapt to these changes to prepare the younger generation to face future challenges and opportunities. The method used is a literature study analysis of various previous studies and case studies. The results of the study show that the Independent Curriculum has the potential to improve 21st century skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and digital literacy. However, significant challenges in its implementation include lack of teacher understanding, limited infrastructure, and differences in readiness between regions. The Independent Curriculum shows potential in improving student competencies, especially in terms of critical thinking skills, creativity, collaboration, and digital literacy. The implementation of the Independent Curriculum at various levels of education faces a number of challenges. This study reveals that the Independent Curriculum has the potential to bring positive changes to the Indonesian education system by improving student competencies in accordance with the demands of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Technology support, teacher training, and community involvement have proven to be important for successful implementation. Recommendations include the development of contextual learning modules, increased technology support, and holistic assessment. These findings provide insights for the development of better education policies in the digital era.

An analysis of the characteristics of Indonesian pre-service science teachers’ compassion skills and gender roles

This research aims to analyze pre-service science teachers’ generosity, friendliness, wisdom, sensitivity, and tolerance as indicators of compassion skills, and explore gender roles on the characteristics of these skills. As 21st-century skills, compassion skills need to be conveyed through teachers’ attention, affection, kindness, and gentleness toward their students. These skills are fundamental for pre-service science teachers’ personality competence in supporting their role as future professional teachers. These skills also play an important role when there is interaction between teachers and students or among students during the learning process which affects learning outcomes. However, references concerning the characteristics of pre-service teachers’ compassion skills and the role of gender in these skills are underexplored. To address this gap, this research employed an exploratory method involving 107 pre-service science teachers at several state universities in Indonesia. Data was collected using a questionnaire that met validity and reliability criteria. The research results show that the teachers generally demonstrate a high/very high extent of compassion skills. The results also point to the fact that gender differences pose no significant influence on compassion skills. The implication highlights the necessity to focus on training pre-service science teachers’ compassion skills, while undermining any anxiety due to gender differences.

Leaving Performance-Oriented Goal (Ranking) Based Education To Improve Student Learning Motivation

Society believes that ranking can be extrinsic motivation for students to improve learning performance, achievement, and student achievement. Ranking also makes it easier for schools to find out the quality of schools, formulate policies, and select colleges to enter. On the other hand, ranking triggers "competition" not only among students, but also between parents. The pressure that children feel to always "achieve" in this case to win in class, is also getting higher. However, reflecting on the quality of Indonesian education, the rankings did not function as expected. This can be seen from the results of the 2018 PISA test which showed Indonesia was ranked 72nd out of 77 countries. The research aims to understand the purpose and effectiveness of the learning process based on performance-oriented goals in education and to find alternative learning methods that are more effective in motivating students through learning process orientation. The method used in this research is library research, namely research carried out by reading, studying and recording various literature or reading materials that are appropriate to the subject matter. The results of the study explain that basically ranking is no longer relevant for use in schools because it will encourage performance-oriented goals in students. This condition is exacerbated by the infrastructure, facilities, and number of teaching staff that are not in line with the existing learning demands. There is a need for a system change that is more oriented towards learning-oriented goals to maximize the learning process and revive students' interest in learning.

Speech Development Pattern Strategy in Indonesian Language Teaching Practices by PPG Students Daljab PGRI

The teacher acts as the main communicator in the classroom, using spoken language to convey material, motivate students, and create a conducive learning environment. However, many teachers, especially Indonesian language teachers, still need to fully understand the importance of skills in learning, resulting in their speaking skills being low. This study aims to analyze the strategies of speech development patterns as well as the reasons and purposes of their application in Indonesian language teaching practice by PPG Daljab K1 students. This research is classified into case study research. The data source is in the form of learning videos uploaded to each PPG Daljab student's YouTube account, totaling 36 data. Data collection is done using observation and interview methods. The instrument used is an interview sheet. After the data was collected, it was analyzed through several stages, including three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing or verification. The main results of this study show that PPG Daljab students use various strategies of speech development patterns, such as deductive, inductive, causal, logical, direct comparison, basic techniques of explanation before or after the statement, analogy, narration, and climax, in the practice of teaching Indonesian. This study concludes that the use of this strategy creates an effective learning situation, allowing students to develop mental and intellectual activities to the fullest. The implication of this study suggests the importance of integrating this strategy into the educational curriculum to improve the effectiveness of Indonesian language learning at the PPG Daljab level.

Portfolio assessments are increasingly popular in schools to assess student performance, achievement, and development. Portfolio assessments cover many aspects of a student's abilities and skills, allowing for a more thorough assessment than conventional evaluation methods such as written tests. It is hoped that it will improve the quality of education in Indonesia and encourage more meaningful learning. This study aims to evaluate how effective portfolio assessment is in improving the quality of learning and how it impacts students' motivation and academic achievement. In addition, this study also examines how portfolio assessment can be used well in the Indonesian education system. This study analyses the literature on portfolio assessment topics, including books, scientific journals, and research reports. The research includes a theoretical review of portfolio assessment, school implementation practices, and an analysis of the advantages and problems that arise when implementing them. Literature studies show that portfolio assessments can provide a more comprehensive picture of a student's abilities and development than conventional assessment methods. Portfolio assessments also encourage students to participate more actively in learning and improve their self-reflection skills. However, to implement portfolio assessments, teachers must be trained beforehand, and assessment rubrics must be well crafted. While portfolio assessments have great potential to improve the quality of education in Indonesia by providing more thorough evaluations and encouraging meaningful learning, the success of its implementation depends on the readiness of the education system, including adequate support from schools, teachers, and education policies. Therefore, further research is needed to develop a portfolio valuation model that is in line with these commitments.

Digital Literacy Profile of Indonesian Educational Technology Students in the Era of Digital Transformation

The development of digital technology has led to fundamental changes in the industrial world, known as the industrial transformation of the digital era. One of the serious challenges in education regarding digital technology resources is the ability to control them through algorithmic systems. This research aims to analyze and map the profile of Educational Technology students, particularly Generation Z, who are now in an increasingly mediated and digitalized learning environment. The research employs a quantitative approach with a descriptive research design. The sampling method used is total sampling, where the entire population is selected as the research sample. Data collection is conducted using a questionnaire as the instrument. The data analysis techniques include both qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis. The research findings reveal three categories of digital literacy competencies among Indonesian Educational Technology students: communicative power, selective power, and digital-based creation. Communicative power relates to elements such as social networking, transliteracy, identity management, and self-broadcasting. The digital literacy competency related to communicative skills is categorized as very good, as is the ability to select various digital content when accessing internet-based media. However, the digital literacy competency related to creative power is in the good category, tending towards quite good.

A Narrative Inquiry into EFL Teachers’ Emotional Geographies in Online Grammar ‘Funtainment’ Assessment

In EFL classrooms, each teacher is expected to be able to act professionally in teaching and assessing the students through the ability to control emotions. However, studies that capture such phenomenon are lacking. This study investigated the narratives of Indonesian EFL teachers’ emotional geographies who conducted online assessments using 'Funtainment Assessment' in 'Grammar' classes. The study employed a narrative inquiry as the design by collecting individual in-depth interview data over four months. Findings unveiled five aspects that influenced changes in the participants' emotional geographies: physical, moral, sociocultural, professional, and political. Participants had a variety of attitudes in response to the emotions that arose when assessing the students' grammar competence online. Interestingly, the participants experienced continuous adaptation to the practice of negotiation to the emotional changes Thus, it did not distract the professional developments they had done through agentive actions. Are Indonesian Teachers Ready to Face Disruptive Learning? A Case Study from Economic Teachers in East Java

The readiness of teachers facing the learning era must be investigated because teachers must be creative to improve student’s learning experiences. Using the TPACK framework, there is a complex relationship between teachers’ knowledge of technology, pedagogy, and content which in the research focuses on economics knowledge. Thus, this study has three objectives. First, to determine the ability, knowing their capacity in age and gender of high school/vocational teachers in East Java. The data were collected from 189 teachers in high schools/vocational in East Java. The collected data were analyzed using a descriptive quantitative method. The main findings revealed that 90% of teachers had high mastery of technology knowledge, nearly a 100% of teachers had high pedagogical competence, and the majority had moderate economics knowledge. Furthermore, based on gender and age, no significant difference was observed in technological knowledge, pedagogy competence, and economics knowledge in East Java high schools/vocational teachers. KAJIAN STILISTIKA BERORIENTASI DIKSI YANG BERINDIKASI NILAI PENDIDIKAN KARAKTER PROFIL PELAJAR PANCASILA PADA KUMPULAN PUISI BULAN TERTUSUK LALANG KARYA D. ZAWAWI IMRON SEBAGAI ALTERNATIF BAHAN AJAR DI SMK

This research aims to describe how D. Zawawi Imron manipulates or utilizes diction that indicates the character education value of the Pancasila Student Profile as well as the effects caused by the use of this diction in the collection of poems Bulan Tertusuk Lalang and used as an alternative for Indonesian teaching material in vocational schools. This research applies a qualitative descriptive method using a stylistic approach. This research uses data from the poetry collection Bulan Tertusuk Lalang by D. Zawawi Imron and Indonesian language teaching materials at vocational schools. Data collection was carried out using library study techniques. The results of this research are, D. Zawawi Imron manipulates or utilizes language in ways, namely: (1) using words that contain denotational and connotative meanings through expressions (2) using word data with the Pancasila Student Profile as an indirect way of expressing reality. The effect of D. Zawawi Imron's use of diction in the collection of poems Bulan Tertusuk Lalang is that readers can find out the meaning and message of the collection of the poems as well as provide characteristics of the language used by D. Zawawi Imron. As an alternative Indonesian language teaching material in vocational schools because it meets the requirements and criteria for good teaching material or materials. Interestingly, apart from the meaning of connotation and denotation, in these poems we also find archaic diction (ancient words that are no longer commonly used).One of the functions of this archaic diction is as a means of generating visual images for readers and the value of character education with the Pancasila Student Profile. Apart from that, you can also find understanding related to the holy book Al-Quran, stories of the prophet, history of the Majapahit kingdom, and philosophical theories. The results of data analysis also show that this stylistic study can be used as teaching material for Indonesian language and literature in module form.

Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Pediatric Education: Perspectives from Pediatric Medical Educators and Residents.

The use of technology has rapidly increased in the past century. Artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology (IT) are now applied in healthcare and medical education. The purpose of this study was to assess the readiness of Indonesian teaching staff and pediatric residents for AI integration into the curriculum. An anonymous online survey was distributed among teaching staff and pediatric residents from 15 national universities. The questionnaire consisted of two sections: demographic information and questions regarding the use of IT and AI in child health education. Responses were collected using a 5-point Likert scale: strongly disagree, disagree, neutral, agree, and highly agree. A total of 728 pediatric residents and 196 teaching staff from 15 national universities participated in the survey. Over half of the respondents were familiar with the terms IT and AI. The majority agreed that IT and AI have simplified the process of learning theories and skills. All participants were in favor of sharing data to facilitate the development of AI and expressed readiness to incorporate IT and AI into their teaching tools. The findings of our study indicate that pediatric residents and teaching staff are ready to implement AI in medical education.

PERCEPTIONS OF COOPERATING TEACHERS ON PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS’ MENTORING IN TEACHING PRACTICUM: EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE FROM INITIAL TEACHER EDUCATION

Although research on cooperating teachers mentoring pre-service teachers provides important findings in teacher education, there are few studies exploring cooperating teachers' perceptions of mentoring pre-service teachers in Indonesian teacher education. Grounded in narrative inquiry design, this research reports on cooperating teachers' perceptions of mentoring their pre-service teachers during teaching practicum. Two cooperating teachers voluntarily agreed to participate in this study. Data were derived from semi-structured interviews focusing on exploring critical incidents while they were mentoring pre-service teachers. The data were analysed qualitatively using thematic analysis. Findings revealed that pre-service teachers faced difficulties in using English to teach students. However, they benefited from applying strategies and media in their teaching. In terms of mentoring aspects, pre-service teachers were often unprepared with lesson plans, although their communication during teaching practicum was good. To better understand teaching material, pre-service teachers need to enhance their abilities. In addition, pre-service teachers have a limitation in reviewing material and assigning homework, and they struggled to manage class time effectively, leaving insufficient time to review material. This study implied that identifying the challenges faced by pre-service teachers during teaching practicum, as perceived by cooperating teachers, can inform the design of mentoring programs.

Analysis of problems in planning and organizing independent curriculum in madrasah ibtidaiyah: teacher's perspective

The Merdeka Curriculum, as the latest innovation in the world of Indonesian education, raises a number of problems in the process of implementing it in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, especially for teachers. This article analyzes the problems that arise, especially related to curriculum planning and organization. The method used is a descriptive survey, data were collected from teachers at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri 2 Trenggalek. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a lack of understanding of the independent curriculum, difficulties in preparing documents and learning tools for the independent curriculum, inadequate facilities and infrastructure. Lack of participation in intensive training and technical guidance results in a lack of understanding of the substance of the curriculum being the main factor behind this problem. In the face of these challenges, a number of alternative solutions were proposed, including intensive training, comparative studies, teacher working groups, and improved technological facilities and infrastructure
