A new early warning system based on metaheuristics in CPS architecture

ABSTRACT Cyber security is the most studied in recent years by the association of metaheuristic techniques thanks to their ability to solve optimization problems in a limited time and NP-hard problems. The Early Warning System (EWS) can identify malicious exercises and anomalies in the CPS and provide robust network systems protection. In addition, grouping attacks in EWS is important for defining defense policies. Information security in the CPS architecture is about securing information during data aggregation, large-scale processing and sharing in the network environment, especially low-linkage open networks. Motivated by these considerations, we propose a new security approach based on the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) metaheuristic algorithm to strengthen the security framework of the CPS architecture against the system and within CPS attacks. In this work, we propose a new Early Warning System approach based on metaheuristics. Based on two fundamental concepts of clustering, coherence and separation, an integrated index was proposed based on Davies-Bouldin (DB) and Silhouette Index (SI). An improved ABC algorithm was proposed based on these indices. After having identified two different types of an objective function, based on the above concepts, and after having tested the algorithm on DBSI, the results of the experiments found are auspicious.

The structure design and kinematics analysis of the manipulator for the upper port remote maintenance in DEMO

As part of the upper port remote maintenance in DEMO, the design of seven degrees of freedom (DOFs) redundant manipulator with a ceiling-mounted configuration was presented in this work. The proposed manipulator is capable of flexibly maneuvering around the big manipulator, extracting the stop elements, and placing them into a basket. It can also fold itself to create more space for the operation of the big manipulator. The kinematic model of the redundant manipulator was established based on the application of the Modified Denavit-Hartenberg (MDH) method, and an unconstrained optimization equation was formulated using quaternions. To solve this equation, an improved artificial bee colony (IABC) algorithm was developed by enhancing the local search capability of the employed bees and improving the search efficiency of the observation bees. The feasibility of the structural design and the IABC algorithm was verified by carrying out trajectory planning simulations of the manipulator. The design of the 7 DOFs manipulator and the corresponding offline inverse kinematics algorithm provide valuable references for the maintenance work in the upper port remote maintenance of the DEMO.

Improved artificial bee colony algorithm based on two-dimensional queue structure for complex optimization problems

In the face of increasingly complex optimization problems, the Artificial Bee Colony algorithm still encounters some unresolved issues. For instance, the randomness involved in generating the initial population provides diversity to optimization solutions but also leads to convergence among individuals due to the current pseudo-randomness in this process. To address this challenge, this study introduces an improved ABC algorithm based on a two-dimensional queue structure, referred to as KLABC. The KLABC algorithm introduces several key advantages over traditional ABC algorithms. By employing the K-Means algorithm, it enhances the assessment of initial population individuals, ensuring a higher-quality population that aligns with specified requirements. The integration of a two-dimensional queue-based search strategy, along with the application of the first-in, first-out (FIFO) mechanism, not only preserves population diversity but also minimizes the risk of discarding potential optimal solutions during iterative searches. Augmenting this framework, the concepts of the global best solution (GBest) and queue best solution (QBest) are incorporated to fortify the exploration formula, expediting the algorithm's convergence rate. Experimental results on clustering optimization problems across seven UCI datasets validate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm. Experimental results indicate that the KLABC algorithm achieves faster convergence compared to the traditional ABC algorithm, with an average performance improvement of 55.63%. Additionally, when comparing the runtime of different algorithms in handling large-scale data, the KLABC algorithm effectively maintains its performance even in scenarios with larger data sizes.

A problem-specific knowledge based artificial bee colony algorithm for scheduling distributed permutation flowshop problems with peak power consumption

A distributed permutation flowshop scheduling problem (DPFSP) with peak power consumption is addressed in this work. The instantaneous energy consumption of each factory cannot exceed a threshold. First, a mathematical model is developed to describe the concerned problem. Second, an improved artificial bee colony (IABC) algorithm is proposed. Based on problem-specific knowledge, three new solution generation operators, e.g., shift, swap, and speed adjust, are designed for employ bees and onlooker bees. A local search operation is developed to improve the quality of current best-known solution in each iteration. 450 instances are solved to evaluate the performance of IABC via comparing to seven state-of-the-art algorithms. The average relative percentage increase (ARPI) of IABC ranks 1 among all compared algorithms. The results and discussions show that the proposed IABC algorithm has strong competitiveness for solving the DPFSP with peak power consumption.

Line Planning under the Operation Mode of Line Sharing between Metro and Suburban Railway

Due to high transport efficiency, reduced transfer time, and various other advantages, the joint operation of different rail transit systems emerges as the optimal choice for rail transit systems. This article mainly studies the line-planning problem under the line-sharing operation mode between metro and suburban railway. First, a complex multiobjective programming model is established to maximize the net profit of two operating companies and the time savings of passengers. The constraints of this model encompass passenger flow, available vehicles, line carrying capacity, station capacity, cross-line configuration, departure frequency, and variable value range. Second, the linear weighted sum method is introduced to consolidate three objective functions into a single one, while utilizing the improved artificial bee colony (IABC) algorithm to address the line-planning problem. Besides, the traditional artificial bee colony (TABC) algorithm and the simulated annealing (SA) algorithm are provided as comparison groups to solve the same numerical example problem. The results demonstrate significant reductions in travel time by adopting the line-sharing operation mode. In addition, the IABC algorithm exhibits better solution quality and higher efficiency than both the TABC and SA algorithms. The proposed method proves to be valuable in formulating and optimizing the line plan.

Improved artificial bee colony algorithm-based channel allocation scheme in low earth orbit satellite downlinks

In low earth orbit (LEO) constellations, channel utilization is low owing to variations in the traffic distributions between beams. LEO satellites improve channel utilization via the full-band multiplexing technology. However, such satellites produce significant inter-beam interference. Additionally, this inter-beam interference becomes more aggravated owing to the requirements of multiple satellite coverage. To resolve this issue, we propose a LEO channel allocation scheme based on an improved artificial bee colony (IABC) algorithm. This scheme considers the difference in inter-beam communication traffic and the limitation of co-channel interference. A binary integer-programming model and IABC algorithm allocate channels to maximize the system throughput. The channel allocation matrix corresponds to a feasible solution in the IABC algorithm. The simulation results verify the excellent performance of the proposed scheme in terms of the throughput, blocking rate, and propagation delay compared with the performance of traditional schemes.

A Joint Allocation Method of Multi-Jammer Cooperative Jamming Resources Based on Suppression Effectiveness

This paper studies the resource allocation problem when multiple jammers follow the aircraft formation to support ground penetration. A joint optimization allocation method of multi-jammer beam-power based on the improved artificial bee colony (IABC) algorithm is proposed. The air-to-ground “many-to-many” assault of the multi-jammer cooperative suppression jamming model is given. The constant false alarm probability detection model of the networked radar is used to evaluate the suppression effect, and a coordinated control model of multi-jammer jamming beams and emitting power is established. The optimal allocation scheme under different combat scenarios is solved by using the IABC algorithm. The search efficiency of the ABC algorithm is improved by cross mutation operation and the replacement of the worst nectar source, and the search performance of the algorithm is enhanced by the random key encoding. Due to the infeasible solution generated by the special random key encoding method, the feasible adjustment strategy is adopted. By changing the jamming parameters, the effect on the detection probability of the radar network is analyzed. Compared to the GWO, SCA, BBO and ABC algorithms, the jamming resource allocation scheme obtained by the proposed IABC algorithm makes the radar detection probability lower. The IABC algorithm has better global search capability and robustness.

Design and Robust Performance Analysis of Low-Order Approximation of Fractional PID Controller Based on an IABC Algorithm for an Automatic Voltage Regulator System

In this paper, a low-order approximation (LOA) of fractional order PID (FOPID) for an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) based on the modified artificial bee colony (ABC) is proposed. The improved artificial bee colony (IABC) high-order approximation (HOA)-based fractional order PID (IABC/HOA-FOPID) controller, which is distinguished by a significant order approximation and by an integer order transfer function, requires the use of a large number of parameters. To improve the AVR system’s performance in terms of transient and frequency response analysis, the memory capacity of the IABC/HOA-FOPID controller was lowered so that it could fit better in the corrective loop. The new robust controller is named the improved artificial bee colony (IABC) low-order approximation (LOA)-based fractional order PID (IABC/LOA-FOPID). The performance of the proposed IABC/LOA-FOPID controller was compared not only to the original ABC algorithm-tuned PID controller, but also to other controllers tuned by state-of-the-art meta-heuristic algorithms such as the improved whale optimization algorithm (IWOA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), cuckoo search (CS), many optimizing liaisons (MOL), genetic algorithm (GA), local unimodal sampling (LUS), and the tree seed algorithm (TSA). Step response, root locus, frequency response, robustness test, and disturbance rejection abilities are all compared. The simulation results and comparisons with the proposed IABC/LOA-FOPID controller and other existing controllers clearly show that the proposed IABC/LOA-FOPID controller outperforms the optimal PID controllers found by other algorithms in all the aforementioned performance tests.

FIR digital filter design based on improved artificial bee colony algorithm

The traditional swarm intelligence optimization algorithm is prone to fall into local optimal solutions in finite impulse response (FIR) digital filter design and has slow convergence speed. In order to optimize the design of FIR filter, a FIR digital filter design method based on improved bee colony (ABC) algorithm is proposed. This improved ABC algorithm can adaptively adjust the step size of the selected neighborhood of nectar source location. At the same time, the information of the global optimal solution is used to guide the search of candidate solution, which improves the global search ability of the algorithm. The improved ABC algorithm can balance the conflict between local search ability and global search ability, so it can achieve better optimization effect. The time and space complexity of the algorithm is analyzed in detail. Then, the improved ABC algorithm is used to design three typical FIR digital filters, namely low-pass, band-pass and band-stop filter. The performance of the designed filter is tested by simulation experiments. The experimental results show that compared with other state-of-the-art optimization algorithms, the proposed FIR filter design method has achieved better effect and performance. Meanwhile, the proposed design method has shorter optimization time. The superiority of the proposed method is verified.

On the Design and Optimization of Test Cases Using an Improved Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm-Based Swarm Intelligence Approach

In this research work, a swarm intelligence-based approach, namely an improved artificial bee colony (IABC), has been proposed to design and optimize the test cases during the software testing process. The novelty of the proposed IABC algorithm is that it has three major improvement heuristics over the general ABC algorithm: (1) it replaces random population generation during the initial phase into a systematic initial solution generation by means of a novel heuristic, namely ‘Chaotic Map'; (2) to eliminate the redundant test cases, another novel heuristic, namely ‘Euclidean Distance', is applied to maintain the diversity of population; (3) to increase the convergence speed, the fitness value of the previous solution is used in the new solution generation. Further, the proposed algorithm has been evaluated with several case studies and compared with the existing works using path coverage-based test adequacy criterion. Hence, the proposed work is improved, and it outperforms the existing works and provides optimal or near optimal test case generation for efficient software testing.

A Joint Optimization Method for Cooperative Detection Resources Based on Channel Capacity

Aiming at the resource optimization problem in the cooperative detection task, the objective function is constructed based on the channel capacity, and the artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm is improved to realize the joint optimization of the UAV swarm trajectory and radiation power. Firstly, a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) cooperative detection model is constructed. Then, based on the perspective of information theory, the channel capacity of the cooperative detection model is derived and used as the objective function for optimizing the detection resources of UAV swarm. Then, the factors affecting the objective function are sorted out and analyzed one by one, and the constraints are clarified. Aiming at the shortcomings of ABC algorithm, its search strategy and parameter optimization method are improved. A joint optimization process of UAV swarm trajectory and radiated power based on improved ABC algorithm is constructed. Finally, through simulation verification and algorithm comparison, it shows that the algorithm in this paper can improve the perception ability of cooperative detection of UAV swarm.

Restructured Hydrothermal System: Slack bus Management

In order to logically represent the power system, it is necessary to develop a concept to compensate various mathematical imbalances, for which the concept of slack bus came into the picture. But when large system is considered, the overall limit of slack bus is not sufficient to compensate the imbalances. In addition to this, the practical depiction of slack bus does not hold when multiple time intervals are considered in HTS problem. In this research, the concept of slack bus is modified and improved so that it can be used for a large power system in restructured hydrothermal system. Furthermore an improved ABC algorithm, i.e. GOABC is proposed, which provides superior diversity and enhanced convergence compared to ABC algorithm.

An improved bearing fault detection strategy based on artificial bee colony algorithm

The operating state of bearing affects the performance of rotating machinery; thus, how to accurately extract features from the original vibration signals and recognise the faulty parts as early as possible is very critical. In this study, the one-dimensional ternary model which has been proved to be an effective statistical method in feature selection is introduced and shapelet transformation is proposed to calculate the parameter of one-dimensional ternary model that is usually selected by trial and error. Then XGBoost is used to recognise the faults from the obtained features, and artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC) is introduced to optimise the parameters of XGBoost. Moreover, for improving the performance of intelligent algorithm, an improved strategy where the evolution is guided by the probability that the optimal solution appears in certain solution space is proposed. The experimental results based on the failure vibration signal samples show that the average accuracy of fault signal recognition can reach 97%, which is much higher than the ones corresponding to traditional extraction strategies. And with the help of improved ABC algorithm, the performance of XGBoost classifier could be optimised; the accuracy could be improved from 97.02% to 98.60% compared with the traditional classification strategy.

Global Maximum Power Point Tracking of Photovoltaic Module Arrays Based on Improved Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm

In this paper, an improved artificial bee colony (I-ABC) algorithm for the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of a photovoltaic module array (PVMA) is presented. Even though the P-V output characteristic curve with multi-peak was generated due to any damages or shading discovered on the PVMA, the I-ABC algorithm could get rid of stuck on tracking the local maximum power point (LMPP), but quickly and stably track the global maximum power point (GMPP), thereby improving the power generation efficiency. This proposed I-ABC algorithm could search for the higher power point of a PVMA by a small bee colony, determine the next tracking direction through the perturb and observe (P&O) method, and keep tracking until the GMPP is obtained. This method could prevent tracking the GMPP for too long due to applying a small bee colony. First, in this study, the photovoltaic modules produced by Sunworld Co., Ltd. were used and were configured as a PVMA with four series and three parallel connections under different numbers of shaded modules and different shading ratios, so that corresponding P-V output characteristic curves with multi-peak values were generated. Then, the GMPP was tracked by the proposed MPPT method. The simulation and experimental results showed that the proposed method performed better both in dynamic response and steady-state performance than the traditional artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm. According to the experimental results, it showed that the tracking accuracy for the GMPP based on the proposed MPPT with 100 iterations under 5 different shading ratios was about 100%; on the other hand, that of the traditional ABC algorithm was 70%, and that of the P&O method was lower at about 30%.

RLAS-BIABC: A Reinforcement Learning-Based Answer Selection Using the BERT Model Boosted by an Improved ABC Algorithm.

Answer selection (AS) is a critical subtask of the open-domain question answering (QA) problem. The present paper proposes a method called RLAS-BIABC for AS, which is established on attention mechanism-based long short-term memory (LSTM) and the bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) word embedding, enriched by an improved artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm for pretraining and a reinforcement learning-based algorithm for training backpropagation (BP) algorithm. BERT can be comprised in downstream work and fine-tuned as a united task-specific architecture, and the pretrained BERT model can grab different linguistic effects. Existing algorithms typically train the AS model with positive-negative pairs for a two-class classifier. A positive pair contains a question and a genuine answer, while a negative one includes a question and a fake answer. The output should be one for positive and zero for negative pairs. Typically, negative pairs are more than positive, leading to an imbalanced classification that drastically reduces system performance. To deal with it, we define classification as a sequential decision-making process in which the agent takes a sample at each step and classifies it. For each classification operation, the agent receives a reward, in which the prize of the majority class is less than the reward of the minority class. Ultimately, the agent finds the optimal value for the policy weights. We initialize the policy weights with the improved ABC algorithm. The initial value technique can prevent problems such as getting stuck in the local optimum. Although ABC serves well in most tasks, there is still a weakness in the ABC algorithm that disregards the fitness of related pairs of individuals in discovering a neighboring food source position. Therefore, this paper also proposes a mutual learning technique that modifies the produced candidate food source with the higher fitness between two individuals selected by a mutual learning factor. We tested our model on three datasets, LegalQA, TrecQA, and WikiQA, and the results show that RLAS-BIABC can be recognized as a state-of-the-art method.

Machine-Learning-Based Road Soft Soil Foundation Treatment and Settlement Prediction Method

In order to effectively predict the settlement of soft soil foundation, improve the accuracy of road soft soil foundation settlement prediction, and improve the safety of the project, this paper proposes an optimized SVM-AR model and discusses the application scope of the SVM model and the time series AR model, respectively. The SVM-AR model is proposed by combining the respective advantages of the two types of models. Firstly, the prediction method of foundation settlement is analyzed and studied, and then the improved ABC algorithm is used to optimize the SVM model. Secondly, the optimized SVM model is combined with the AR model, the ABC-SVM model is used to predict the trend settlement, and the AR model is used to predict the random settlement and then combined to obtain the predicted settlement. The example verification shows that SVM-AR is more accurate than the SVM model prediction results and better reflects the settlement process of highway soft soil foundation.

Research on Danjiang Water Quality Prediction Based on Improved Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm and Optimized BP Neural Network

In order to ensure “a river of clear water is supplied to Beijing and Tianjin” and improve the water quality prediction accuracy of the Danjiang water source, while avoiding the local optimum and premature maturity of the artificial bee colony algorithm, an improved artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC algorithm) is proposed to optimize the Danjiang water quality prediction model of BP neural network is proposed. This method improves the local and global search capabilities of the ABC algorithm by adding adaptive local search factors and mutation factors, improves the performance of local search, and avoids local optimal conditions. The improved ABC algorithm is used to optimize the weights and thresholds of the BP neural network to establish a water quality grade prediction model. Taking the water quality monitoring data of Danjiang source (Shangzhou section) from 2015 to 2019 as the research object, it is compared with GA-BP, PSO-BP, ABC-BP, and BP models. The research results show that the improved ABC-BP algorithm has the highest prediction accuracy, faster convergence speed, stronger stability, and robustness.

Research on reverse order impoundment mode of cascade reservoir flood control system: Case study on upper reaches of Yangtze River

Flood control in the Yangtze River Basin has always been a thorny issue in Chinese history. Along with the development of water science and technology, a large number of reservoirs have been constructed in the Yangtze River Basin, especially the progress of the reservoir operation theory, the joint flood control simulation and decision-making of reservoir groups has been applied extensively, which proved an effective way to reduce the flood risks and losses in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River Basin. However, an increase in the constraints of the reservoir operation (or a single reservoir becoming a multiple-reservoir system) results in an exponential increase in the computational dimensions of the joint flood control simulation, often referred to as the 'curse of dimensionality'. Therefore, based on the aggregation-decomposition (AGDP) method, this paper proposes a cascaded reservoir group integrated operation mode, namely, the 'reverse order impoundment method of cascade reservoir' (ROIMCR) mode, and adopts the improved artificial bee colony (IABC) algorithm to solve the optimization problem of the ROIMCR mode (IABC-ROIMCR) and establish an optimal operation model for cascade reservoir joint flood control. The results show that: 1. With the 'conventional operation' (CO) mode, the ROIMCR mode has more advantages, the average peak flow reduction rate with 32.89% is higher than that of the CO mode 2.91%. 2. In solving the flood optimization operation problem of the cascade reservoir system, the application of the IABC algorithm can effectively reduce the dimensions in the mathematical mode, and has evident effects. The average peak flow reduction rate in the IABC-ROIMCR mode is 44.87%, and 14.89% higher than those of the CO mode. 3. With the IABC-ROIMCR mode, the flood crest standard of cascade reservoirs can be reduced from a 100-year return period to less than a 5-year period, and the flood crest standard of the Lizhuang Hydrological Station from more than a 50-year return period to less than 5-year period. The flood crest standard of the Zhutuo Hydrological Station can be reduced from a 100-year return period to approximately a 5-year period, thereby greatly improving the flood control standard in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River Basin. In addition, the peak inflow to the Three Gorges Reservoir is reduced, and as a result, the flood control pressure in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River Basin is alleviated to a certain extent.

RETRACTED: Two-stage intelligent planning with improved artificial bee colony algorithm for a microgrid by considering the uncertainty of renewable sources

A two-stage planning form of multi-energy supply optimization such as power, cooling, and heating is presented in this paper as a micro energy grid (MEG) To cover the effect of uncertainty in renewable energy sources (RES), the scheduling cycle is considered in this paper. Next, the results of the day-ahead prediction are considered as random variables for the upper-layer model. To realize the random variables at the lower layer, the revised model of energy storage and the demand response (DR) planning model are considered. Finally, the modified version of the artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm is utilized to find the optimal solution. The improved ABC algorithm is a shape-memory method based on the collective intelligence and behavior of bees in a colony for finding the best nutrition source. In the improved ABC algorithm, with information exchange between the bees, based on Newton’s law of universal gravitation, the full potential of this algorithm is used to find the optimal solution given the constraints applied to the system. The proposed method is applied to a real system and the results show that the two-stage optimization algorithm and the proposed intelligent algorithm obtained the simultaneous optimization of different energy forms. The obtained numerical analysis results in test cases prove the following points: (1) The optimal synergistic supply of multiple energy forms has been provided based on the two-stage optimization algorithm and solution approach. (2) The surplus energy can be converted to natural gas by the power-to-gas converter (P2G) based on power cascade conversion in a multi-directional mode. (3) To get some revenue, the MEG is flexible enough to cooperate with the upper-grade energy network. (4) The DR-based price can smooth the load shape and increase the MEG operation revenue using some supplementary features. Also, P2G can sequentially develop the flexible multidirectional energy conversion in energy - gas - energy - cooling as a cascade. When the evaluated P2G energy rises by 450 kW, the total GST output raises by 1244 kWh. For more economic benefits, MEG can be connected to the upstream energy grid. Load management also increases the net revenue of the system.
