Robust YOLO Approach for Mango Fruit Detection Using Computer Vision

In precision agriculture, on-tree fruit detection is a solution for automating many tasks which governs yield estimation, harvesting and quality monitoring. Among all tropical fruits, mangoes are the most widely consumed fruit and is a member of the cashew family. Mangoes have been cultivated in South and Southeast Asia for thousands of years. There are several cultivars of mango, which vary in size, shape, sweetness, skin colour and flesh colour. Mango is India’s most important commercial fruit crop, accounting for over 54% of all mangoes produced globally. This paper is a study conducted to detect the fruit using a simple non-destructive YOLOv7 deep architecture, a highly accurate object detection method with less error rate. A robust dataset, MangoNet of mango images which are annotated using labelImg tool, is used in the study. The detection of on-tree mangoes will be beneficial for the yield estimation of fruits. The YOLOv7 deep model is employed, incorporating transfer learning to enhance model efficiency and accuracy. The performance of the model is evaluated using the metrics mean average precision (mAP) and Intersection over Union (IoU). 99.5% accuracy is met in mAP@0.5. The results show the feasibility of on-tree mango detection with high precision and recall for automated agricultural systems. Python programming language with pyTorch library is used for the transfer learning. This work highlights the potential of YOLO approach to optimize the mango farming practices and contribute to the smart agriculture technologies.

Enhancing Uniform Sprouting, Yield, and Quality in Grapevines: The Impact of Hydrogen Cyanamide (50% S.L) Treatment

Grape (Vitis vinifera L.) is considered as one of the most important commercial fruit crops in temperate, tropical and subtropical regions of the world. In India grape cultivation in tropical and subtropical regions assumes great significance, but one of the biggest issues preventing grapes from being produced in warm climates has been the lack of or insufficient winter chilling. Under these circumstances, there is uneven bud bursting, flowering, and delayed fruit development. The most crucial component of grape development is, consistent bud breaking is required to increase grape quality and maturity. Many plant growth regulators are used to promote bud burst and increase the proportion of bud break. Several locations across the world utilize plant growth regulators to intentionally cause bud break. The application of Hydrogen Cyanamide (H2CN2) during pruning time of grapes, helps to enhance growth uniformity, encourage earlier and more even bud break, raises the proportion of fruit buds, berry set, number of clusters per vine, weight of clusters, and dimensions of clusters. It also gives positive response to various metabolic activities; maximize yield and Maturity, Fruit quality, as well as production efficiency. In grape orchards, it is commonly used to promote consistent and improved bud burst, shortened flowering period, and boost output.

Precise and correct selection of sample – a crucial step in the study of Bacterial Blight Disease (BBD) of pomegranate

Pomegranate is an important commercial fruit crop of an Indian farmer. India produces about 5 lack tones/annum pomegranate. Pomegranate yield is however, adversely affected by a variety of diseases. The management of any disease however, requires the correct and precise identification of the sample. Fruit gradation is one of the most important parts in fruit horticulture. The project design presented in this paper is from same problematic area. In our project design we developed systems which classify diseases affecting pomegranates using K-means clustering and SVM techniques. We are classifying the different pomegranate varieties in accordance with their diseases. This paper deals with pomegranate grading and identification of disease system with judging parameters. The specialty of design is it creates a model which helps to decide appropriate criteria for healthy fruit. This work was highly useful in selection of pomegranate fruits having bacterial blight disease. It was useful in further disease management studies.

First Report of Bronzing Disease Caused by Pantoea stewartii on Jackfruit in China.

Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) is an important tropical commercial fruit crop grown in Hainan province, China. In recent years, severe jackfruit bronzing disease has been found in 11 cities and counties in Hainan. On average, 80% of trees in a jackfruit orchard are affected once bronzing disease is detected. The disease is characterized by yellow-orange to reddish discoloration of the pulp and rags of infected fruit (Hernández-Morales et al. 2017). Jackfruit bronzing disease has been reported previously in the Philippines (Gapasin et al. 2012), Malaysia (Zulperi et al. 2017), and Mexico (Hernández-Morales et al. 2017). Diseased samples of jackfruit 'Tai Eight' with the bronzing symptoms were collected from a plantation in Changjiang, Hainan. The samples were sterilized with 75% ethanol for 30 s, then soaked with 1% sodium hypochlorite for 8 min, and rinsed with sterilized distilled water. The sterilized tissues were ground in 2 mL sterile water, and allowed to stand for 30 min. Then, 500 μL of the supernatant was spread on Glucose-Yeast agar medium and incubated overnight at 28ºC. Representative bacterial colonies were lemon-yellow, convex and smooth, transparent with entire edges. Colonies were Gram-negative, positive for catalase and gelatin liquefaction, which were consistent with the characteristics of P. stewartii subsp. stewartii. In PCR amplifications, an 920 bp amplicon of strain JTPE2 with the primers ES16/ESIG2c (Coplin et al. 2002) and an 1100 bp amplicon of strain JTPC2 with the primers CPSL1/CPSR2c (Ibrahim et al. 2019) were obtained, whereas no bands were observed for the negative control samples. The ES16/ESIG2c and CPSL1/CPSR2c fragments were sequenced for nucleotide BLAST (BLASTn) searches of the NCBI database and phylogenetic tree construction. The obtained ES16/ESIG2c sequences (SAR accession no. SRR22405292) showed 99.07%-99.60% similarity with P. stewartii subsp. stewartii (CP017581, AJ311838 and MF598163). The obtained CPSL1/CPSR2c sequences (SAR accession no. SRR22405293) showed 99.40%-99.99% similarity with P. stewartii subsp. stewartii (MW971422, MH752485 and MH257287). Phylogenetic analysis based on cpsDE sequences (Ibrahim et al. 2019) using the maximum likelihood method revealed that strains JTPE2 and JTPC2 were clustered together with P. stewartii subsp. stewartii. A pathogenicity test was conducted by injecting 2 mL of 108 CFU/ml bacterial suspension into pulp from healthy, surface-sterilized jackfruit. Pulp injected with sterilized distilled water served as a negative control. All inoculated samples produced bronzing symptoms from 2-3 weeks post-inoculation similar to the field-observed symptoms, whereas control fruit were asymptomatic. The strains were reisolated from symptomatic jackfruit pulp to complete Koch's postulates. The bacterial suspension was inoculated on 2-week-old maize seedlings to supplement in vivo pathogenicity testing. Typical Stewart's disease leaf symptoms were visible at 2 weeks post-inoculation. Based on morphological, biochemical, and physiological evidence, pathogenicity tests, and molecular analyses, the pathogenic bacterium isolated from 'Tai Eight' jackfruit was identified as P. stewartii subsp. stewartii. To our knowledge, this is the first report of bronzing disease caused by P. stewartii subsp. stewartii on jackfruit in China, which may assist in preventing the global spread of jackfruit bronzing disease.

Metabolite profiling and transcriptome analyses provide insight into the regulatory network of graft incompatibility in litchi.

Litchi is an important commercial fruit crop widely grown in the world. Graft incompatibility between rootstocks and scions is a major constraint for large-scale cultivation of litchi orchards, popularization of new and excellent litchi varieties, and associated industrial development. Further, the genetic mechanism of graft incompatibility is still unclear in litchi. To reduce the incompatibility problems, this study investigated metabolic and transcriptomic differences between graft compatible and incompatible rootstock-scion combinations of litchi. The result of metabolomics analysis showed that incompatible rootstock-scion interaction modified the profiles of several metabolic substances. However, various compounds of flavonoids, phenolic acids, and lignin predominantly exhibited significantly altered abundance in graft incompatible combinations. Transcriptome analysis identified that graft incompatibility induces dynamic gene differences. The majority of these differentially expressed genes were enriched in biosynthetic pathways of phenylpropanoids. The differential expressions of genes in these pathways could be linked to the differential abundance levels of flavonoids, phenolic acids, and lignin compounds. Integrated metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses revealed a strong relationship between differential genes and differential metabolites identified in this study. In addition, identified hub genes and metabolites were closely associated with graft incompatibility of litchi. This study characterized the abundance of metabolites and genes in graft incompatible combinations and further discussed the genetic mechanism of graft incompatibility in litchi. Our results provide a platform to dissect the molecular mechanisms of graft incompatibility in the litchi fruit.

PRELIMINARY RESULTS REGARDING THE BEHAVIOR OF SOME BLACKBERRIES GENOTYPES IN MOARA DOMNEASCĂ (ILFOV COUNTY) AREA CONDITIONS

Blackberries are an important commercial fruit crop, widely grown. The blackberries contain significant amounts of polyphenol antioxidants such as anthocyanin pigments linked to potential health protection against several human diseases, so the demand is increasing. In order to identify the most suitable varieties for the Vlasia Plain area, in 2020 an experimental plot with 6 stable accessions was established. The cv. ‘Chester’, ‘Dar 8’, ‘Navaho’,‘Polar’, ‘Thornfree’, ‘Triple Crown’, were planted in a plantation scheme 3.0 m × 1.0 m. For each variety, during 2021, ripened fruits were harvested and biometric determinations have been done in the laboratory, being measured fruit weight and diameter, firmness, titratable acidity and pH, all fruit quality indicators. The preliminary results showed that blackberry varieties without thorns are larger than thorny varieties and more suitable for fresh fruit consumption, while the ‘Dar 8’ fruit are not so fragrant, their pulp is stronger, so they are more suitable for processing. Differential gene expression associated with flower development of mango (Mangifera indica L.) varieties with different shelf-life

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is one of the most important commercial fruit crop grown in many parts of the world. Major challenges affecting mango trade are short shelf-life, high susceptibility to chilling injury, post-harvest diseases and consumer demand for improved fruit quality. The objective of the present study was to reveal the key regulators present in bud and flower tissues during flower development stage, associated with fruit development and affect the shelf-life of the mango fruit. RNA-sequencing of contrasting genotypes having short and long shelf-life, was carried out. Comparative differential expression pathway studies of long shelf-life (Totapuri) and short shelf-life (Bombay Green) mango genotypes revealed a total of 177 highly differentially expressed genes. Out of 177 total genes, 101 genes from endoplasmic reticulum pathway and very few from gibberellins (3) and jasmonic acid (1) pathway were identified. Genes from endoplasmic reticulum pathway like hsp 90, SRC2, DFRA, CHS, BG3 and ASPG1 mainly up regulated in Bombay Green. Uniprotein B9R8D3 also shows up regulation in Bombay Green. Ethylene insensitive pathway gene EIL1 up regulated in Bombay Green. Gene CAD1 from phenylpropanoid pathway mainly up regulated in Bombay Green. A total of 4 SSRs and 227 SNPs were mined from these pathways specific to the shelf-life. Molecular studies of endoplasmic reticulum, phenylpropanoid, ethylene, polygalacturonase and hormone pathways at the time of bud and flower formation revealed key regulators that determine the shelf-life of mango fruit.

Complete mitochondrial genomes of three Mangifera species, their genomic structure and gene transfer from chloroplast genomes

BackgroundAmong the Mangifera species, mango (Mangifera indica) is an important commercial fruit crop. However, very few studies have been conducted on the Mangifera mitochondrial genome. This study reports and compares the newly sequenced mitochondrial genomes of three Mangifera species.ResultsMangifera mitochondrial genomes showed partial similarities in the overall size, genomic structure, and gene content. Specifically, the genomes are circular and contain about 63–69 predicted functional genes, including five ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes and 24–27 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes. The GC contents of the Mangifera mitochondrial genomes are similar, ranging from 44.42–44.66%. Leucine (Leu) and serine (Ser) are the most frequently used, while tryptophan (Trp) and cysteine (Cys) are the least used amino acids among the protein-coding genes in Mangifera mitochondrial genomes. We also identified 7–10 large chloroplast genomic fragments in the mitochondrial genome, ranging from 1407 to 6142 bp. Additionally, four intact mitochondrial tRNAs genes (tRNA-Cys, tRNA-Trp, tRNA-Pro, and tRNA-Met) and intergenic spacer regions were identified. Phylogenetic analysis based on the common protein-coding genes of most branches provided a high support value.ConclusionsWe sequenced and compared the mitochondrial genomes of three Mangifera species. The results showed that the gene content and the codon usage pattern of Mangifera mitochondrial genomes is similar across various species. Gene transfer from the chloroplast genome to the mitochondrial genome were identified. This study provides valuable information for evolutionary and molecular studies of Mangifera and a basis for further studies on genomic breeding of mango.

REVEALED COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE OF WATERMELON TRADE IN ASEAN 5 COUNTRIES

Watermelon Citrullus Lanatus (Thunb) is an important commercial fruit crop in ASEAN. One way to improve economic growth is through trade and comparative advantage. There are very some researches regarding with comparative advantage of watermelon trade in ASEAN. The purpose of this article is to determine the comparative advantage of watermelon trade in five ASEAN member countries. This article uses secondary data only. Watermelon trade data covering the six years period 2014-2019 were obtained from the United Nations Commodity Trade Statistics Database. This article applies the original index of the revealed comparative advantage (RCA) and revealed symmetric comparative advantage (RSCA) to find out the level of comparative advantage of watermelon commodity. Results show that Lao Peoples Democratic Republic, Myanmar and Viet Nam have a comparative advantage of watermelon trade in the global market. This study suggests that ASEAN 5 member nations should try to maintain its comparative advantage of watermelon exports in the international market.

ETIOLOGY, EPIDEMIOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT OF CITRUS BLACK ROT CAUSED BY ALTERNARIA CITRI- AN OUTLOOK

Citrus is an important fruit crop of the world. It is the most important commercial fruit crop having higher moisture contents and nutrient composition. Citrus losses are mainly due to diseases that highly affect their quality and quantity. Black rot of fruit caused by Alternaria citri, is a significant fungal disease of citrus that causes severe losses in citrus orchards of the world. It affects most of the members of the citrus family and often causes severe losses. The disease primarily affects the aboveground parts of plants, leaves explicitly, and fruits. The first symptoms, however, usually appear on the leaves as black necrotic lesions. Later black necrotic lesions are also formed on fruits, and with the age of plants, the fruits become soft and black rot. The disease has been controlled by cultural practices and by growing resistant cultivars that do not allow the entry of the pathogen. Preharvest fungicides are also applied to prevent the disease but are not highly effective. Postharvest sprays with fungicides have also controlled the disease. However, fungicides are not eco-friendly, and demands for alternatives are arising. Other options are the application of biological control agents; however, biological agents are not effective under field conditions. The present review summarizes the current status of black rot of citrus and its management strategies.

A COMPREHENSIVE SURVEY OF GRAPE LEAF DISEASE DETECTION AND CLASSIFICATION USING MACHINE LEARNING BASED MODELS

Plant diseases are becoming a major danger to agricultural productivity as the world's population expands, causing farmers to incur serious consequences. Plant disease can be detected early, which can assist ensure food security and save financial losses. Grape (Vitis Vinifera), a member of the Vitaceae family, is one of India's most important commercial fruit crops. It's a wide-ranging temperate crop that's adapted to the subtropical environment of India's peninsula. Grapefruits and their leaves are more likely to contract illnesses in a grape vineyard. For experts and agronomists, manual observation is impracticable and time-consuming. We conduct a literature study on alternate disease identification and classification methodologies in order to predict disease progression at an early stage. A review of automated classifying and sorting grape leaf disease, including machine learning and deep learning approaches, is also discussed.

Hesperidin-rich ethanol extract from waste peels of Citrus limetta mitigates rheumatoid arthritis and related complications.

The aim of this study is to explore the possible pharmacological effects of fruit waste that may have a key role in converting the fruit waste into pharmaceutical agents. Citrus limetta (Rutaceae) is an important commercial citrus fruit crops used by juice processing industries. C. limetta peels are perishable waste material, which creates a big challenge in juice processing industries. Initial pharmaco-chemical profile of peels' extracts revealed that the ethanol extract (ClPs) has promising anti-inflammatory activity and rich in hesperidin content. In vivo experimental pharmacology profile of ClPs against arthritis and related complications revealed that oral administration of ClPs significantly reduced the arthritis score and arthritis index in elbow and knee joints against collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) in rats. Biochemical parameters include pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-17A), and C-RP level in blood serum of CIA rats further confirmed the anti-arthritic profile of ClPs. Further individual experiments related to arthritis-related complications in experimental animals demonstrated the analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic potential of ClPs in dose-dependent manner. The result of this study suggests the suitability of ClPs as a drug-like candidate for further investigation toward the management of arthritis and related complications.

Comparative analysis of the complete plastid genomes of Mangifera species and gene transfer between plastid and mitochondrial genomes.

Mango is an important commercial fruit crop belonging to the genus Mangifera. In this study, we reported and compared four newly sequenced plastid genomes of the genus Mangifera, which showed high similarities in overall size (157,780–157,853 bp), genome structure, gene order, and gene content. Three mutation hotspots (trnG-psbZ, psbD-trnT, and ycf4-cemA) were identified as candidate DNA barcodes for Mangifera. These three DNA barcode candidate sequences have high species identification ability. We also identified 12 large fragments that were transferred from the plastid genome to the mitochondrial genome, and found that the similarity was more than 99%. The total size of the transferred fragment was 35,652 bp, accounting for 22.6% of the plastid genome. Fifteen intact chloroplast genes, four tRNAs and numerous partial genes and intergenic spacer regions were identified. There are many of these genes transferred from mitochondria to the chloroplast in other species genomes. Phylogenetic analysis based on whole plastid genome data provided a high support value, and the interspecies relationships within Mangifera were resolved well.

Propagation Studies in Sapodilla [Manilkara zapota (L.) P. Royen]: A Review

Sapota [Manilkara zapota (L) P. Royen] is an important commercial fruit crop of Sapotaceae family grown for fresh fruits and chicle production. Sapota when propagated by vegetative means, produce true to type plant material and reduces juvenile period and result in early commercial production. Various propagation techniques on different rootstocks were tried for the purpose. Among different rootstocks, khirni (Manilkara hexandra) was found most successful and is used for commercial plant propagation as it possesses high graft compatibility with sapota and plants produce fruits of excellent quality with high yield. Various vegetative propagation techniques have been standardized and used on large scale depending upon season and region. The general techniques used for sapota propagation are softwood grafting, veneer grafting, side grafting, inarching and air layering. Softwood grafting is employed in regions with moderate temperature and high relative humidity which prevent desiccation of scion stick. Veneer and side grafting using mature scion stick is also found effective in regions with variable climates. Inarching technique possess high graft survival rate and is practiced by private nurseries. Propagation through cuttings is not successful in sapota even when treated with rooting hormones. Micro-propagation in sapota by tissue culture techniques have been tried but application remains limited to academics only. This may be due to high phenolic contents and sap exudation in explant. Special protocols for successful root and shoot regeneration are required to be standardized for commercial scale plant propagation.

The Effects of Different Crop Load and Summer Pruning Application on Grape Yield and Quality Parameters of ‘Mevlana’ Cultivar (Vitis vinifera L.)

Grape (Vitis vinifera L.) is considered as one of the most important commercial fruit crops in Turkey. Wine quality is affected by cultural practices. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of crop load level and different summer pruning applications on the wine quality of ‘Mevlana’ (Vitis vinifera L.). The study was carried out on a 12-year-old own-rooted ‘Mevlana’ vineyard, which was established as a rational pergola in Manisa. Two different crop load levels (55 clusters/vine and 110 clusters/vine) and four different applications were adapted to these crop loads. Applications are, I: removal of 1/3 cluster (the ends of the bunch were cut with scissors at berry state; 4 mm of berry), II: girdling (girdling was the removal of a ring of phloem around the trunk, while scoring was a simple metal wire (3 mm diameter) at berry state; 4 mm of berry, thirty-five days after application, the wires were removed), III: removal of 1/3 cluster (the ends of the bunch were cut with scissors at berry state; 4 mm of berry) and girdling (thirty-five days after girdling, the wires were removed), IV: control (no application). Yield (kg/vine), and other quality characteristics were analyzed. The best results were obtained from girdling application (27.99, 28.59) in cluster length (cm) and obtained from application of 55TII and 110TII (20.34, 20.38) in berry width (mm) and were obtained from applications of 110TII (84.80 number/vine) in number of marketable cluster and application of 55TII and 110TII (47.46, 47.02) in L* level. The conclusion that can be drawn from the results of this study is that 55TII and 110TII applications led to enhancements in the berry growth and biochemical properties of cv. ‘Mevlana’ to rational pergola trailing system.

CitGVD: a comprehensive database of citrus genomic variations

Citrus is one of the most important commercial fruit crops worldwide. With the vast genomic data currently available for citrus fruit, genetic relationships, and molecular markers can be assessed for the development of molecular breeding and genomic selection strategies. In this study, to permit the ease of access to these data, a web-based database, the citrus genomic variation database (CitGVD, http://citgvd.cric.cn/home) was developed as the first citrus-specific comprehensive database dedicated to genome-wide variations including single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and insertions/deletions (INDELs). The current version (V1.0.0) of CitGVD is an open-access resource centered on 1,493,258,964 high-quality genomic variations and 84 phenotypes of 346 organisms curated from in-house projects and public resources. CitGVD integrates closely related information on genomic variation annotations, related gene annotations, and details regarding the organisms, incorporating a variety of built-in tools for data accession and analysis. As an example, CitGWAS can be used for genome-wide association studies (GWASs) with SNPs and phenotypic data, while CitEVOL can be used for genetic structure analysis. These features make CitGVD a comprehensive web portal and bioinformatics platform for citrus-related studies. It also provides a model for analyzing genome-wide variations for a wide range of crop varieties.

An Efficient Agrobacterium Mediated Transformation of Pineapple with GFP-Tagged Protein Allows Easy, Non-Destructive Screening of Transgenic Pineapple Plants.

Quite a few studies have been conducted to improve the Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of pineapple, which is the second most important commercial tropical fruit crop worldwide. However, pineapple transformation remains challenging, due to technical difficulties, the lengthy regeneration process, and a high labor requirement. There have not been any studies specifically addressing the introduction of GFP-tagged genes into pineapples through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, which would enable easy, non-destructive expression detection. It would also allow expression localization at the organelle level, which is not possible with GUS a reporter gene that encodes β-glucuronidase or a herbicide resistance reporter gene. Here, we report a method for the introduction of GFP-tagged genes into pineapples through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. We used embryonic calli for transformation, and plants were regenerated through somatic embryogenesis. In this study, we optimized the incubation time for Agrobacterium infection, the co-cultivation time, the hygromycin concentration for selection, and the callus growth conditions after selection. Our strategy reduced the time required to obtain transgenic plants from 7.6 months to 6.1 months. The expression of GFP-tagged AcWRKY28 was observed in the nuclei of transgenic pineapple root cells. This method allows easy, non-destructive expression detection of transgenic constructs at the organelle level. These findings on pineapple transformation will help accelerate pineapple molecular breeding efforts to introduce new desirable traits.

Flowering, Fruiting Behavior and Nutritional Quality of Selected Guava Genotypes

Guava is one of the most important commercial fruit crop in Bangladesh due to its high nutrient value, good taste and high health benefits. This study was conducted to investigate the flowering, fruiting behavior and nutritional quality of guava genotype suitable for coastal region of Bangladesh. Fifteen genotypes (PG 01 to PG 15) having satisfactory growth were selected for this study. One branch was randomly selected in each direction (North, South, East and West) to collect field data from each plant. Among the genotypes, the highest percentage (87.62%) of fruit setting and the maximum time (115.8 days) required for fruit maturation were recorded from PG 13 and PG 14, respectively. The PG 12 had the highest fruit weight (312.6 g) and the longest fruit (9.34 cm), whereas the highest diameter (26.28 cm) of fruit was recorded in PG 06. The maximum numbers of seeds (411.20) were counted from PG 10 whereas no seed was obtained in the PG 01 and PG 02. Maximum anthocyanin (0.17 mg/100 g FW), lowest pH (3.31), maximum vitamin C content (91.25 mg/ 100g FW), total sugar (6.56 %) and TSS (5.19 oBrix) were also recorded in the seedless genotype (PG 01). The genotypes PG 01 and PG 02 have shown important pomological traits for further study, variety improvement and selection as new variety.

Effects of Different Exposure Times of Led Lights on Postharvest Performances of Fresh-Cut Pineapple (Ananas comosus L. cv. Josapine)

Pineapple is one of the most important commercial fruit crops served in fresh-cut form which is convenient for the consumers. However, fresh-cut pineapple induces the activity of phenolic compounds which triggers the generation of brown or dark pigments. Browning incidence (BI) directly influences the fruit’s acceptability and marketability. Therefore, different exposure times (5mins, 10mins, 15mins and 20mins) and types of LED lights (white, red and blue) were applied on fresh-cut pineapple stored at 5oC storage for twelve days to reduce BI. A significant interaction between the two factors was recorded in lightness coefficient, chroma, total phenolic and ascorbic acid (AA) contents. Regardless of exposure times, all types of LED lights, mainly the blue light, succeeded in delaying BI in fresh-cut pineapple. In conclusion, blue light had a tendency to delay BI and maintain the other postharvest quality attributes of fresh-cut pineapple.
