Relationship between Teacher Professional Development and use for ICT in Teaching and Learning in Primary Schools in Sabuli Sub-County, Wajir County

Information and communication technology use in education has become an indispensable aspect in the contemporary education system. This explains why many governments including Kenya government have invested in information and communication technology to foster the quality of education. However, despite efforts to avail information and communication technology resources, their use and impact on instructional delivery has been minimal, especially in primary schools in Kenya. Consequently, there has been concern on relationship between availability of information and communication technology and teacher professional development in primary schools. This situation has necessitated the proposed study which is aimed at assessing the relationship between teacher professional development and use for ICT in teaching and learning in primary schools in Sabuli sub-county, Wajir County, Kenya. The study used correlation research design. The target population 94 teacher comprising 30 head teachers and 64 teachers of primary schools in Sabuli sub-county, Wajir County. Given the small number of teachers in public primary schools in Sabuli sub county, the study purposively selected all teachers and head teachers as participant to avoid reducing the ambiguity of a study. Thus, the sample population was 94 respondents. The researcher gathered data using questionnaires from teachers and used semi-structured interview for head-teachers. Data was analysed using descriptive and regression statistics. The findings highlight a statistically significant positive relationship between teacher professional development and ICT use, indicating a direct relationship between the two variables.

Unveiling the relationships between visibility, information technologies and innovation management for sustainability performance: an empirical study

PurposeThe paper investigates how visibility, information technology and innovation management impact sustainability performance. It proposes a framework explaining the role of visibility in driving firms' sustainable performance and the relevance of innovation management and information technologies in enhancing organisational visibility. This study intends to add to the discussion within the management literature about the potential of innovation management to drive sustainability. It seeks to provide insight into the practices that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can adopt to improve their sustainable performance.Design/methodology/approachUsing empirical methods, the study investigates SMEs in central Mexico. The demographic information in the dataset includes 15 years as an average length of service from firms. Of the surveyed firms, 70% were from the manufacturing sector and 30% were from the service sector, as these are the most representative sectors of the productive region. A variance-based structural equation model approach was used to test the hypotheses, processed with the partial least squares (PLS) regression method.FindingsThe research results show that visibility significantly impacts sustainability performance. Innovation management has a higher influence on visibility than information technologies, emphasising the need to improve the quality of information in firms, not just the tools. The findings support managers in comprehending the crucial importance of visibility in aiding firms to achieve higher sustainability performance.Research limitations/implicationsThe study only examined a sample of Mexican SMEs; therefore, the findings' generalizability must be considered within this context. Secondly, the survey only focused on services and manufacturing firms and a more detailed analysis of the sector could provide further clarity on the relationships between variables. As a result, future research should consider these limitations and explore additional contexts to improve the overall understanding of the topic. Moreover, the scale used to measure the variables was adapted from other researchers with similar context research and reflective variables.Practical implicationsThe results provide helpful information for SME managers about the importance of focusing on innovation management processes and employing information technologies as crucial managerial strategies. This will aid in increasing visibility and supporting the development of sustainability performance in firms.Social implicationsThe world red-code, among others, with climate change and social gaps, has generated the need to contribute to sustainable development, and it has mobilised people on all levels all over the world for the simple purpose of preserving life. Therefore, society, as a crucial group that affects and is affected by this red-code situation, should act in favour of visibility, the use of high-quality information (e.g. transparent, accessible and relevant) and information technologies to promote sustainable practices. This could mean that society should be prepared to incorporate new capabilities and spaces to interchange knowledge as a participatory community that can contribute to better sustainable dynamics that could expand its participation in public decisions. Also, the government should encourage digital democracy (e.g. develop social participation platforms), opening and harmonising rules and mechanisms combining high-quality information with IT to provide flexible and adequate services that support sustainable development, such as efforts towards constructing sustainable and smart cities.Originality/valueThis study explores how innovation management can drive firms' sustainability performance, which is crucial for improving competitiveness. The question of how to enhance sustainability performance through managerial drivers is a critical one. This study empirically investigates the nexus of visibility and sustainability performance, innovation management and information technology with visibility.

Overview of the State of Influence of Information Technology on the Government Sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina

In today’s technology world, many businesses rely on information technology. This influence has its reflection also on government sectors. Services and work are based on using different information technology programs, internal and external apps, digital documents, signatures etc. Information technology requires the entire package of knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for employees within a government organization to master and to achieve organizational goals. In first, digital competences are a basis that civil servants must have in order to master day-to-day business activities. These digital competences are not only learned, but through life-long learning they complement, perfect and create new ones. As one of the new scientific approaches, this article uses one of the innovative explanations as well as indicators of adaptation to a changing work environment. In short, human capital is the subject analyzed with influences for continuous improvement of knowledge and learning as well as influences of information technology. This process of adaptation to change, transforms critical business capabilities into modern ones. Through desk and situation analysis with government officials, the study found that the impact of information technology on the work environment is evident, and that environment includes a range of digital skills, continuous learning, and modern skills that combines in one. The conclusions of this paper are necessary for the continuous monitoring and professionalization of government employees in the areas of using information technology in their daily work.

Impact of information and communication technology on mobility of urban and rural households: a comparative study from Nigeria

ABSTRACT There has been a growing concern regarding the potential impact of technology on travel patterns, with limited attention given to its effects on both urban and rural households. To address this gap, our study focuses on the influence of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) on rural-urban mobility. We conducted this research using primary data collected through a multi-stage sampling method, where 50% of the wards were selected randomly. Subsequently, a total of 510 questionnaires in urban areas and 492 questionnaires in rural areas was administered using a systematic sampling approach. The results of this investigation revealed significant variations in the socio-demographic and travel characteristics of respondents within the study areas. Notably, our findings indicate that ICT usage has not entirely replaced traditional trips in urban and rural settings. Instead, it has played a pivotal role in complementing travel activities. The implications of these findings are substantial. As tele-density improves and expands in rural areas, it is foreseeable that more cost-effective travel planning will be achievable.

Impact of Information and Communication Technologies on Energy Consumption and Economic Growth: An Empirical Assessment for China

Regarding the association between information and communication technology (ICT) and economic growth and energy consumption, particularly in developing economies, there is a great deal of controversy and a lack of empirical study. This study applies Quantile Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model (QARDL) approach to empirically probe into the effect of ICT on energy consumption and economic growth in China. Two corresponding models for energy consumption and economic growth are formulated and the data of all of the variables spanning over 1995-2021 period is taken from different secondary sources. The findings of the study reveal significant and positive impact of ICT on economic growth at all quantiles in the short and long run. Similarly ICT has significant and positive impact on energy consumption also at all quantiles. The Quantile Granger Causality test provides evidence for bidirectional causality between ICT and economic growth and ICT and energy consumption. Wald test proved the presence of and symmetric and linear association between ICT and economic growth and ICT and energy consumption at quantiles in the long and short run both. In the light of these findings, the study recommends the Chinese government and investors to have more investment in energy efficient ICT products that consume less energy and help increase in economic growth in China.

Connecting sustainability and computer science curricula through website learning projects embedding different types of student-generated content

AbstractTeaching and learning methods that are related to student-generated content (SGC) seem a promising strategy for including sustainable development goals (SDGs) in education (established as a fundamental cornerstone in the achievement of these goals by the United Nations). This paper describes the inclusion of SDGs through the implementation of website learning projects, whose products are SGC where materials developed by students can be made available to other students (from the same or different courses) in Project Management subjects of the Degree in Computer Science. The method has trialled at two different universities working in a coordinated way. A total of 301 students developed these projects with which they completed the content of the subject, in addition to achieving learning with respect to the SDGs, increasing their understanding of the impact of information and communication technologies on the SDGs, and their awareness of the related problems. We also found that more learning is perceived with information search and content generation activities than with those that focus on the use of materials produced by peers. Finally, it is observed that the method has similar results in different contexts and with different groups of students.

Parental Supervision and Control as a Predictive Factor of Juvenile Delinquency

Parental control and supervision is considered one of the key factors in raising children. There are numerous studies and researches in the literature that have tried to prove the correlation between parental control and juvenile delinquency. The results of these studies have varied, sometimes confirming and sometimes denying a direct link between parental control and certain forms of juvenile delinquent behavior. However, the modern child and family go through a new socialization process that brings challenges for both children and parents. The goal of our paper is to clarify the terminological confusions present in this area and highlight the actuality of the issue of parental control over the behavior of minors. Through a review of existing domestic and foreign scientific literature, using quantitative and qualitative content analysis, comparative analysis and comparative and historical methods, we want to point out the importance of parental control and supervision in shaping the behavior of minors, with special reference to the manifestation of delinquent patterns. The results of our research indicate a significant correlation between different forms of parental control and supervision with the behavior of minors, with noticeable changes compared to traditional methods of control. The obtained results emphasize the need for educating and advising parents about modern achievements in this area, as well as providing support in adapting to new trends and security challenges, including the impact of information technology, social media and other factors that are now part of everyday life and were not present in the past. The practical importance of our research implies that the theoretical conclusions can be used as a basis for further research in the field of parental control and supervision, as well as juvenile delinquency, with the aim of developing measures for its prevention.

The Impact of Information and Communication Technologies on Hotel Competitiveness

This study aims to analyze the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as a competitiveness factor by hotel companies located in Inhambane and Macaneta, Mozambique. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. For data collection, a semi-structured interview script was used, which was applied to ten hotel managers from Inhambane and Macaneta (five participants in each case). The data was analyzed using categorical content analysis. The results showed that the interviewees recognize the importance of technology for the hotel's competitiveness, but do not use software, limiting themselves to simpler programs. It was found that Wi-Fi services and the use of social networks are perceived as sources of competitive advantage in the context investigated. The research points to practical contributions that shed light on the need to make resources available for the application of ICT in the hotel sector.

The Evolution of Perspectives on the role of Digitalisation in the Development of Labour Relations and Human Resources Policy

Digital transformation has a significant impact on the labor market as a whole and on social and labor relations within each individual organization. This study examines the evolution of perspectives on the application of information technologies in the functioning of the organizational unit responsible for Human Resources. Study use a comprehensive chronological analysis of over 70 scientific works published from the 1970s to the present. Results indicate that an increase in the intensity of the influence of information technologies on the Human Resources, as well as on social-labor relationships. This influence has evolved, starting from the use of computers as a means of storing personnel information and the potential for remote working, and culminating in the global impact of modern information technologies on social-labor relationships and labor market – the emergence of new forms of employment, changes in the job management, the simultaneous creation of new jobs and the threat to many existing ones. Additionally, study introduces analysis of the evolution of perspectives on the ethical component of digitalizing labor relations and personnel policy.

Digitalization as a determinant of economic policy choice: Russian realities and world experience

The article considers digitalization as a new general purpose technology and its impact on economic growth and economic policy in the world and Russia against the background of the so-called “productivity paradoxes” and economic shocks of 2020—2023. The importance of accelerating the growth of total factor productivity  in Russia through the introduction of advanced digital technologies is shown. The world experience in assessing the impact of digital information and communication technologies on economic growth is briefly described, and an adapted methodology for assessing macroeconomic effects of economic policy, previously used by experts from the OECD and the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia at the level of country groups, is proposed and tested on a panel of Russian regions. The authors calculated the original series of contributions of labor, capital and total factor productivity to the GRP growth of Russian regions for the period 2011—2020. This makes possible to compare the benefits of digitalization and the rate of accumulation of digital capital in Russia and in other countries . The article discusses the desirable parameters of short-term macroeconomic stabilization tools and some aspects of developing the national innovation system.

Innovation in Healthcare Through Information Technologies: A Review

The application of innovative information technologies in healthcare can definitely subside the present limitations of the healthcare industry through better affability and accessibility. It encompasses the use of artificial intelligence, big data, biomedical research including drug invention, medical education, innovative/robotic surgical technology, cutting-edge equipment, telemedicine, virtual consultation, online supportive platforms, etc. The present review is an attempt to identify and analyse the impact of these innovative information technologies and explore the potential scope of improvement in the Indian healthcare system. The database search was performed in Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, ProQuest, Google Scholar and Wiley Online Library. Initially, 319 articles related to innovative digital healthcare technologies have been sourced. However, 105 articles were taken into consideration for the review due to various exclusion criteria. Through an extensive review of previously published articles, the present study concludes that undoubtedly information technologies and their applications aid providers reduce inefficiencies, increasing quality, increasing access, removing human errors, reducing costs and making diagnosis, treatment and medicine more personalised for patients. It has really improved the quality, quick and convenient healthcare system.

Icts And Labour Productivity Nexus In Developing Countries: Evidence From Panel Estimation Approach

This study examines the impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on labour productivity in developing countries from 2000 to 2019, using the two-step System GMM estimation and dynamic panel quantile regression. The empirical results present new evidence on the moderating effect of ICTs with human capital, financial development and trade openness on labour productivity in developing countries. The interaction terms between ICTs and these three moderators show positive and statistically significant determinants of labour productivity. These three interaction terms have a greater influence on labour productivity than the impact of each variable assessed individually. The dynamic panel quantile regression results revealed that ICTs statistically significant to enhance labour productivity in lower and intermediate quantiles than in the highest quantiles in developing countries. This finding suggested that ICTs play an essential role in improving productivity at the lower and average labour productivity levels. This study can help policymakers develop a long-term strategy in terms of ICTs adoption and usage more intensively in developing countries as they strive to achieve the goals of industrial 4.0.

This makes the Internet the main source of information about politics for young people. The article examines such aspects as accessibility of information, media literacy of young people, as well as the possibility of forming public opinion through social networks and news resources. The research method includes analysis, surveys and interviews with youth representatives, as well as an overview of current news and political events. The scientific novelty of this study is to identify ways to form a political worldview among young people in the digital age. The availability of information and the ability to communicate with different people help to broaden the horizons and understanding of political processes, but you need to be careful and analytical so as not to fall under the influence of manipulation and fake news. Thanks to the Internet, youth can discuss political issues with representatives of different cultures and worldviews, which can significantly expand their horizons and help them better understand complex political processes. However, it is important to remember that distorted or one-sided data may be presented on the Internet, which can lead to the formation of incorrect or exaggerated political views. Therefore, a critical approach to information obtained from the Internet is extremely important. The main conclusions of the study are that modern information technologies have a significant impact on the political worldview of young people, however, it is important to develop media literacy and critical thinking among the younger generation for a more informed perception of information.

The impact of biomedical and information technologies on women's social roles

The article examines the possibility of crisis phenomena in society as a result of the leveling of social roles caused by the development of biotechnologies, in particular reproductive and information technologies. In particular, the issues of changing women's social roles under the influence of ART (assisted reproductive technologies) are studied in the article in the context of the philosophy and gender. The author examines in detail the various forms of influence of technological inventions on social roles. Special attention is paid to the importance of preserving the social roles of parents for society. The need to maintain a special bond between parents and children, expressed in traditional social roles, is emphasized. Denial of social roles can cast doubt on belonging to humanity. The author pays special attention to the identity transmitted, in particular, through gender and social roles. The methodology is based on the study of currently known biotechnologies and information technologies, and a philosophical understanding of the impact of these technologies on the social structure of society. In the course of the work, a negative forecast was made: these trends may lead to the collapse of the social structure. The stabilizing role of women will gradually decrease, which will lead to a significant bias towards the male component of social roles. Also, new bioethics based on new reproductive technologies will gradually change social ties. Classical forms of social relations, such as the family, may die out. The author assumes that in the course of the gradual exclusion of women from the process of childbearing and reproduction of the population, society and social relations will be destroyed. The novelty of the research lies in the original focus of attention, in which the author examines the social roles of women in connection with the process of childbirth, as well as the perception of the social roles of women in the aspect of romantic relationships with a man.
