Anxiety and Motivation to Return to Sport During the French COVID-19 Lockdown.

Feeling anxious and presenting self-determined motivations about returning to sport after a break may impair sport performance and increase the risk of sustaining an injury. Hence, the aim of this study is to explore differences in anxiety and motivation to return to sport according to gender, expertise, training status before and during the lockdown, and athletes’ availability (i.e., injury status) at the time of the lockdown. A total of 759 competitive athletes (49% female; mean age: 27 ± 10 years old) completed the cross-sectional study. Participants were invited to state their expertise, training status before and during the lockdown (did they have a training program), and whether they were injured at the start of the lockdown. Additionally, participants filled out psychometric self-report measures of anxiety (TFAI-return) and motivation (SMS-return) to return to sport. Due to non-normal distributions in the TFAI and SMS scores, non-parametric group comparisons were performed to compare participants for each categorical variable: non-parametric correlation tests were also performed to test the associations between continuous variables. Group comparisons showed higher scores of anxiety for females, younger athletes, athletes practicing and competing at the highest level, and athletes without a training program during the lockdown. Moreover, results suggested lower motivation scores (i.e., autonomous and controlled) for older athletes, experts (practicing for more than 10 years), athletes practicing and competing at a lower level, and athletes without a training program during the lockdown. Additionally, participants who were injured at the start of the lockdown reported higher scores of cognitive anxiety to return to sport than non-injured participants. The results of this study suggest that elite athletes may have suffered from external pressures to return to sport during the lockdown. Additionally, participants with a training program during the lockdown seemed to be less anxious and more self-determined to return to sport after the lockdown. Future studies may focus on the impact of cognitive behavioral interventions on anxiety and motivation to return to sport.

Impact of cognitive-behavioral interventions on weight loss and psychological outcomes: A meta-analysis.

To examine the effects of cognitive-behavioral therapy weight loss (CBTWL) interventions on weight loss, psychological outcomes (eating behaviors [cognitive restraint, emotional/binge eating], and depressive/anxiety symptoms) in adults with overweight or obesity. To be included, studies had to (a) be randomized controlled clinical trials of a CBTWL intervention versus a comparison intervention; (b) include weight loss and psychological outcomes; and (c) include patients who were at least overweight to obese. This review follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Statement (Moher, Liberati, Tetzlaff, & Altman & the PRISMA Group, 2009). Twelve studies (6,805 participants) were included. The average weight loss difference between arms was -1.70 kg (95% confidence interval [CI]: -2.52 to -0.86, I2 = 1%) in favor of CBTWL. The standardized mean difference on cognitive restraint was 0.72 (95% CI: 0.33 to 1.09; I2 = 81%) and -0.32 (95% CI: -0.49 to -0.16; I2 = 0%) for emotional eating in favor of CBTWL. The reduction in depressive symptoms was not statistically different between the groups (-0.10 [95% CI: 0.21 to 0.02], I2 = 36%). Meta-analyses were not possible for anxiety and binge eating. In addition to weight loss, current evidence suggests that CBTWL is an efficacious therapy for increasing cognitive restraint and reducing emotional eating. However, CBTWL does not seem to be superior to other interventions for decreasing depressive symptoms. The impact of cognitive behavioral intervention on angina pectoris and negative emotion for patients with myocardial infarction

Objective To explore the impact of cognitive behavioral intervention on angina pectoris and negative emotional for patients with myocardial infarction.Methods A total of 60 cases of myocardial infarction patients were divided into observation group and control group.Control group was given conventional nursing,and observation group was given cognitive behavior intervention on the basis of control group.Two groups were compared with angina attack and negative emotion.Results Angina pectoris attack (AF),angina pectoris in steady state (AS) in observation group were significantly better than those in control group (P ＜ 0.05 ).The improvement of negative emotion in observation group was significantly better than that in control group ( P ＜ 0.05 ).Conclusions Cognitive behavioral intervention is help to ease in coronary heart disease patients with adverse psychological,enhance their coping skills,improve the quality of life. The negative emotional impact of cognitive-behavioral intervention on high school students with chronic hepatitis B virus carriers

Objective To investigate the negative emotional impact of cognitive-behavioral intervention on high school students with chronic hepatitis B virus carriers. Methods A total of 120 cases of high school students with chronic hepatitis B virus carriers who received physical examination were randomly divided into control group and observation group (60 cases respectively ). The cases in the control group received conventional methods, while those in experiment group received cognitive-behavioral intervention . Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) were assessed before and 6 months postintervention between groups. Results The SAS, SDS score were lower after 6 months intervention than before the intervention in two groups ( P ＜ 0. 05 ). The SAS, SDS score reduced much more in experiment group than those in the control group ( P ＜ 0. 05 ). Conclusions Cognitive-behavioral intervention can improve the negative emotions of high school students with chronic hepatitis B virus carriers, help them correct the negative perception, reshape health behavior, self-confident optimism and a good personality. The impact of cognitive behavioral interventions on SOC, perceived stress and mood states of nurses

Health care professionals are prone to continuous stress due to their occupational demands. Occupational stress is defined as a response to chronic job-related stress characterized by physical and emotional exhaustion and stress related disorders. Very few studies have examined the impact of cognitive behavioral interventions (CBI), including information provision and education on stress reactions among nurses. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of CBI on nurses’ sense of coherence (SOC), perceived stress, and mood states. A pre-post test design, with control, was chosen in order to meet the aims of the study. Participants consisted of thirty-six registered nurses. Nurses were recruited from all hospital wards by snowballing technique. Twenty nurses comprised the CBI group (study-group). A control group of sixteen nurses were matched by terms of age, education, and marital status. The psychological measures of the two groups were compared at baseline (t1) and did not differ with regard to their SOC, perceived stress, and mood states. Effect of group on psychological measure was carried out by analysis of covariance. The pre-post effects within each group controlling for t1 showed that in the CBI group, a statistically significant change was found in four of the psychological measures: the values of SOC and vigor mood state increased, while values of perceived stress and fatigue mood state significantly decreased at t2. No such changes were observed in the control-group. The results are discussed in the conceptual frame of stress and coping theory. Recommendations for health professionals’ education are suggested.

Goal attainment scaling with sexual offenders: a measure of clinical impact at posttreatment and at community follow-up.

The impact of cognitive-behavioral interventions was assessed for 28 low-moderate risk and 20 high-risk sexual offenders on conditional release to the Greater Toronto Area. Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS--T. Hogue, 1994) for sexual offenders was used to rate clinical and motivational elements of treatment taken from reports written at pretreatment, posttreatment, and after 3 months of community follow-up. Results indicated that both groups of offenders benefited from treatment, although low-moderate risk offenders showed consistently better results on all measures. Performance along nonrelapse prevention related dimensions increased from pretreatment to posttreatment and remained relatively steady in the community. Relapse prevention related treatment components showed a steady increase from pretreatment throughout follow-up in the community for low-moderate risk offenders, but not for high-risk offenders. Both groups improved substantially in level of motivation from pretreatment to posttreatment; however, only those in the low-moderate risk group maintained their motivation levels once released to the community. These results are discussed with respect to the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral treatment of sexual offenders.
