“Acima de tudo, José de Acosta merece ser lido e recomendado”: a apropriação da ideia de missão pelo teólogo reformado holandês Johannes Hoornbeeck

The article discusses the relation between the Spanish Jesuit José de Acosta (1540-1600) and the Dutch Reformed theologian Johannes Hoornbeeck (1617-1666). Distant for the time they lived, for the spaces where they developed their action and for the very creed they professed, these two religious achieved an important reflection on the role of the Christian mission in territories of barbarians and pagans. In a period of strong political and religious disputes between Catholics and Protestants, the analysis of Hoornbeeck’s main text allows us to better understand a delicate process of appropriation and re-elaboration of the idea of mission within the parameters of the Dutch reformed dogma carried out from the Peruvian problematic by the Jesuit Acosta.

Mormons are particularly concerned about missionary work, putting much effort into converting non-Mormons into their faith. The proposed text attempts to focus on the goals of the missionary activity of this quasi-Christian new religious movement, to explain the processes by which the Mormons formed their view of conversion and how to achieve them in daily life during missionary work at the early stages of the history of the denomination. An analysis of the idea of mission in the teaching and practice of the Church of Joseph Smith allows us to gain an understanding of the general theological and anthropological principles of modern Mormonism.

Pemberdayaan Jemaat dalam Perspektif Diakonia Transformatif: Studi Implementasi Dana Sharing GPM

This article analyses the concept of empowering congregations (oikonomia) as the new concept of the Protestant Church of Maluku (GPM) to add explaining the classic mark of the church, namely fellowship (Koinonia), service (Diakonia), and witness (Martyria). In the provision of services by GPM, the task of empowerment (oikonomia) gets the primary focus. The social context of the GPM congregation living in poverty is the driving force for the mission of church empowerment services. The empowering mission is mainly rooted in the mission of God, who sent the church to realize the kingdom of God to the world. GPM continues the idea of God's mission in service policies by implementing 30% and 70% sharing funds, which focuses on increasing the empowerment of the people as a form of transformative Diakonia. This research used a mixed-method to analyze the implementation of the GPM budget quantitatively, and its utilization was analyzed qualitatively. The congregation of Haria was one of the congregations that became the locus of the research. In the end, the research results that although GPM has mandated the implementation of empowerment programs as the focus of transformative diakonia, the reality is that the church service still prioritizes strengthening institutions and servants.

Nature of Mass Communication and Media Construction of Fears

The research examined correlation between essential characteristics of mass communication, caused by its nature, and origin, and spread of fears and anxieties in society. We analyzed the role of such essential components of mass communication as subjects of mass communication, features of mass information, its production and distribution, media news in causing fears and anxieties. Academic works covering the problems of mass communications were theoretical-methodological basis of research. Results of the leading state sociological services’ surveys and regional researches were used as empirical basis for research. We used comparative analysis and secondary data analysis. The study also looked at the roles of mass media's founder and journalist in the development of audience’s fears. The study highlighted that the journalist’s perception of an audience, the idea of social mission of journalism, audience's attitude towards journalistic activity transformed under the influence of commercialization of all aspects of social life in the post-Soviet Russia and it played a crucial role in emergence of anxieties and fears. The study analyzed the impact of information entropy on generation and circulation of population's fears. We found that, on the one hand, media become means of stabilizing public attitudes in crisis situations, and, on the other hand, controversial image of social reality created by media produces state of confusion and provokes growth of population's anxieties and fears. Analysis of the news' role in creating fears and anxieties is based on the idea of their non-normativity that deroutinize everyday reality, which may also happen due to creating a show of catastrophic events by the media.

The Monitoring Nitrous Oxide Sources (MIN2OS) satellite project

The Monitoring Nitrous Oxide Sources (MIN2OS) satellite project aims at monitoring global-scale nitrous oxide (N2O) sources by retrieving N2O surface fluxes from the inversion of space-borne N2O measurements that are sensitive to the lowermost atmospheric layers under favorable conditions. MIN2OS will provide emission estimates of N2O at a horizontal resolution of 1° × 1° on the global scale and 10 × 10 km2 on the regional scale on a weekly to monthly basis depending on the application (e.g., agriculture, national inventories, policy, scientific research). Our novel approach is based on the development of: 1) a space-borne instrument operating in the Thermal InfraRed domain providing, in clear sky conditions, N2O mixing ratio in the lowermost atmosphere (900 hPa) under favorable conditions (summer daytime) over land and under favorable and unfavorable (winter nighttime) conditions over the ocean and 2) an atmospheric inversion framework to estimate N2O surface fluxes from the atmospheric satellite observations. After studying three N2O spectral bands (B1 at 1240–1350 cm−1, B2 at 2150–2260 cm−1 and B3 at 2400–2600 cm−1), a new TIR instrument will be developed, centered at 1250–1330 cm−1, with a resolution of 0.125 cm−1, a Full Width at Half Maximum of 0.25 cm−1 and a swath of 300 km. To optimally constrain the retrieval of N2O vertical profiles, the instrument will be on-board a platform at ~830 km altitude in a sun-synchronous orbit crossing the Equator in descending node at 09:30 local time in synergy with two other platforms (Metop-SG and Sentinel-2 NG) expected to fly in 2031–32 aiming at detecting surface properties, agricultural information on the field scale and vertical profiles of atmospheric constituents and temperature. The lifetime of the MIN2OS project would be 4–5 years to study the interannual variability of N2O surface fluxes. The spectral noise can be decreased by at least a factor of 5 compared to the lowest noise accessible to date with the Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer-New Generation (IASI-NG) mission. The N2O total error is expected to be less than ~1% (~3 ppbv) along the vertical. The preliminary design of the MIN2OS project results in a small instrument (payload of 90 kg, volume of 1200 × 600 × 300 mm3) with, in addition to the spectrometer, a wide field and 1-km resolution imager for cloud detection. The instruments could be hosted on a small platform, the whole satellite being largely compatible with a dual launch on VEGA-C. The MIN2OS project has been submitted to the European Space Agency Earth Explorer 11 mission ideas.

The Idea and Practice of Mission in the Pastoral Ministry of Martin Luther

마틴 루터에게는 선교에 대한 사상과 선교적 실천이 없었다는 주장이 있어왔다. 그럼에도 불구하고 본 연구는 루터의 선교 사상과 선교 실천이 있었음을 루터의 목회적 사역의 관점에서 논증하고자 한다. 본 논문은 루터의 선교 신학을 다루고 있지는 않지만, 루터의 설교, 루터의 교리문답, 그리고 루터의 찬미가를 분석함으 로써 루터가 목회 사역에서 선교 사상과 선교 실천을 드러냈다는 결론을 내린다. 따라서 본 연구는 마틴 루터가 선교의 ‘실패자(failure)’가 아니라 ‘아버지(father)’ 였음을 입증하는 데 큰 의의가 있다.

The Community-Engaged Lab: A Case-Study Introduction for Developmental Science.

Due to the closing of campuses, museums, and other public spaces during the pandemic, the typical avenues for recruitment, partnership, and dissemination are now unavailable to developmental labs. In this paper, we show how a shift in perspective has impacted our lab's ability to successfully transition to virtual work during the COVID-19 shut-down. This begins by recognizing that any lab that relies on local communities to engage in human research is itself a community organization. From this, we introduce a community-engaged lab model, and explain how it works using our own activities during the pandemic as an example. To begin, we introduce the vocabulary of mission-driven community organizations and show how we applied the key ideas of mission, vision, and culture to discussions of our own lab's identity. We contrast the community-engaged lab model with a traditional bi-directional model of recruitment from and dissemination to communities and describe how the community-engaged model can be used to reframe these and other ordinary lab activities. Our activities during the pandemic serve as a case study: we formed new community partnerships, engaged with child “citizen-scientists” in online research, and opened new avenues of virtual programming. One year later, we see modest but quantifiable impact of this approach: a return to pre-pandemic diversity in our samples, new engagement opportunities for trainees, and new sustainable partnerships. We end by discussing the promise and limitations of the community-engaged lab model for the future of developmental research.

CubeSat Autonomous Navigation and Guidance for Low-Cost Asteroid Flyby Missions

Recent advancements in CubeSat technology unfold new mission ideas and the opportunity to lower the cost of space exploration. Ground operations costs for interplanetary CubeSats, however, still represent a challenge toward low-cost CubeSat missions: hence, certain levels of autonomy are desirable. The feasibility of autonomous asteroid flyby missions using CubeSats is assessed here, and an effective strategy for autonomous operations is proposed. The navigation strategy is composed of observations of the Sun, visible planets, and the target asteroid, whereas the guidance strategy is composed of two optimally timed trajectory correction maneuvers. A Monte Carlo analysis is performed to understand the flyby accuracies that can be achieved by autonomous CubeSats, in consideration of errors and uncertainties in a) departure conditions, b) propulsive maneuvers, c) observations, and d) asteroid ephemerides. Flyby accuracies better than are found possible, and main limiting factors to autonomous missions are identified, namely a) on-board asteroid visibility time (), b) for correction maneuvers (), c) asteroid ephemeris uncertainty (), and d) short duration of transfer to asteroid. Ultimately, this study assesses the readiness level of current CubeSat technology to autonomously flyby near-Earth asteroids, in consideration of realistic system specifications, errors, and uncertainties.

A hunam is the body of social being: divercity of collective socio-historical memory frameworks

Reflecting some contemporary trends social environment, the author underlines some of them which have increased the level of memory studies discussion. The paper reflects a trend of the postmodern pluralism field, where the social memory is defined as an object for free constructing. The alternative philosophical approach demands to rethink this pluralism by the decision of methodological choice towards memo philosophy which climes the idea of fundamental mission of social memory for social history and future development.

The Biological Study of Lifeless Worlds and Environments

Astrobiology is focused on the study of life in the universe. However, lifeless planetary environments yield biological information on the variety of ways in which physical and chemical conditions in the universe preclude the possibility of the origin or persistence of life, and in turn this will help explain the distribution and abundance of life, or lack of it, in the universe. Furthermore, many places that humans wish to explore and settle in space are lifeless, and studying the fate of life in these environments will aid our own success in thriving in them. In this synthetic review, I have three objectives, as follows: (1) To discuss the biological value and use of lifeless environments, (2) To explore the diverse planetary bodies and environments that can be lifeless and to categorize them, and (3) To propose sets of biological experiments that can be undertaken in different categories of lifeless worlds and environments and suggest concepts for mission ideas to realize these goals. They include origin of life and microbial inoculation experiments in lifeless but habitable environments. I suggest that the biological study of lifelessness is an underappreciated area in planetary sciences.

윌리엄 캐리의 선교신학: 『이교도 선교방법론』(1792)과 『세람포어 선교협약문』(1805)을 중심으로

Carey sparked the 19th-century global missionary movement. This study analyzes his mission ideas through focusing on An Inquiry and the Serampore Covenant. In An Inquiry, he called for the necessity of mission by using information and statistics. He proposed to treat the locals as equals with souls on par with Europeans. There were many unbelievers in England, but he convincingly argued why Christians should go abroad for mission. He overcame hyper-Calvinist thinking and restored the Great Commission. In the Serampore Covenant, he stated that missionaries should study the religions and concepts of salvation of the local people. He suggested not to abuse the sacred animals or criticize Hinduism and stressed Bible translation and the role of local Christians in Indian evangelization.

A plea for the honour of God: Gisbertus Voetius’ mission proposals at the National Synod of Dordrecht and his mission theory

This article searches for the dynamic in human terms that produced today’s global church. It will focus on the role and the vision of Gisbertus Voetius (1589–1676), the father of the Reformed science of missions. As a significant representative of early modern Reformed theology, Voetius set his seal on the mission paragraph in the decisions of the National Synod of Dordrecht, held in 1618–1619 in one of the oldest cities in the then young republic of the Netherlands. In addition is the far-reaching influence of his mission principles in Reformed missions. The focus in this study is on Voetius’ missiology which, as we will see, is that, in the whole discipline of his theology and mission ideas, the honour of God was his highest aim.

ETHICAL PROBLEMS OF REALIZATION OF CALLING OF A PERSON

The article researches ethical problems of realization of human calling. On the basis of ideas of the ethics of E. Levinas and their interpretations the author proves the importance of ethical dimension of evaluation of calling as a way of self-actualization of a personality. The purpose of the study is to determine of the conditions and requirements for understanding of calling by personality. However, from the ethical point of view those conditions and requirements appeared to be independent from the individual aims and visions of calling. Therefore, reveals itself the transcendence of the purpose of calling, devotion of a person to over-personal aims and values. The research analyzes the interrelations between the ideas of calling and mission or assignments of a man in the world. The ethical problem presents also the realization of the ethical obligations versus desires and will of calling. The article researches the problem of the purpose of life related to individual understanding of calling. The other issue of the study is the topic of a highest good as the aim and ethical dimension for calling. The theme of destiny and predestination researched as relevant for the experience of calling as well as the phenomenon of gift. Calling is a realization of given to a person and of his or her gifts. For the conclusion was determined the multidimensional character of values of human calling. In the essence of this phenomenon revealed the combination of personal and transcendent, over-personal motives. There is a hierarchy of levels of good in the experience of calling. The person must be able to build up and understand those levels by means of ethical thinking in order to realize calling in the life. There could not be an irresponsible calling of a person. It has to be a correlation of calling with responsibility to family, society and the world of higher ethical values.

Conceptual foundations of formation of the public administration system in legal education

The urgency of the chosen topic is due to the insufficient development of the methodology of public administration of legal education in Ukraine, the need for its conception, the definition of the structure, the mechanism of influence on cognition and practice. In this regard, the necessity of creating the conception of legal education development as a comprehensive detailed long-term course of Ukraine aimed at achieving the main goal of law-education activity – enhancement of legal culture and legal consciousness of the population is substantiated.The article presents the meaning of the conception for the field of knowledge of public governance and administration and proposes to consider it as a normative legal document, which defines the mission and development ideas, reflects the vision of the existing state of a particular process or phenomenon. The block diagram of the development of the conception of public administration in legal education in Ukraine is proposed. The structure of the conception which confirms its scientific character is defined: substantiation of the conception of the goal and directions of the conception realization; tasks concerning realization of directions defined in the conception; identification of steps (ways, measures, methods), the responsibles and timing of implementation; expected results.The factors influencing the formation of a high level of legal culture and citizens’ legal consciousness are determined, the most actual problems that are characteristic for the modern stage of Ukrainian society development are outlined. The structure of general goals and directions concerning the development of legal education in Ukraine is presented. The functions to be performed by the public administration system in the development of legal education (forecasting, planning, organizational, coordinational, regulating, accounting, controlling, informing, explanatory, propaganda, diagnostic, compensatory) are determined.It is proved that the conception should represent a system of views on the development of legal education, the formation of a state policy on the development of legal literacy of the population, consolidation of efforts of state authorities and government, local self-government and various civil society organizations in shaping legal knowledge, raising the level of legal culture and legal awareness of citizens.

Post-teologiczny spór fakultetów: o domniemanej wyższości nauk o polityce nad post-teologią

In the article the author presents the analysis of cultural processes that have a negative impact on the Catholic Church and Christianity, threatening the very essence of the mission of the Church, as well as leading to dechristianisation of societies. The disquisition presented in the article starts from the problem of political involvement of priests. The author presents the argumentation taken from the teachings of the Catholic Church, showing why priests should keep a distance from politics, as well as exceptions to this rule. Analysing further the Church's coming too close to politics, the article focuses on the phenomenon of reducing the idea of salvation and mission of the Church to the dimension of worldliness as a process that may lead to the loss of the essence by Christianity. Another threat of this type presented in the article is popularisation in the Church and in theology of the notions, that have been created in order to supersede from science the terms with Christian provenance. This leads to the adoption of atheistic para-digm in theology. This phenomenon is accompanied by other dangerous tendency, namely the secularisation of Christians, who think, make decisions and live as though Christ did not exist.

“We have even locked out the very Zeitgeist itself”

This article analyses the discourse employed by Norwegian fraternal organizations, based on Hugh B. Urban’s postulate that secrecy is a strategy for ‘adornment’, i.e. conveying a special status to certain values and beliefs. The discourse is analysed in terms of the fraternities’ idea of reality, identity, and mission, and claims that these organizations regard themselves as defenders of society’s core values which they claim are threatened by moral corruption and decay.

Calling as a Motivating Factor of the Development of Education in Ukraine

The article raises importance of the topic of mission in contemporary philosophy and educational sciences. Mission is a basic idea for building up of civil society as a community of responsible and committed people. Mission has a special significance for teaching professions. Ukraine as well as many other countries experiences a shortage of teachers. Many successful students of pedagogical professions prefer to get other jobs because of low salaries and prestige of teaching. The problem of motivation in educational sphere needs political, public and scientific awareness.
 The skeptics and pragmatics are not sure that mission is a vital idea of our days. That is why it was important to find out whether the phenomenon of mission exists in the consciousness of contemporary Ukrainians and how it appears to them. In the focus of the article are opinions of secondary school graduates, students, whose area is educational sciences and professional teachers. The method and strategy of the presented research is hermeneutic phenomenology. The relevant experience of people was examined and interpreted by in-depth interviews. Before in-depth interviews there was conducted a quantitative survey which provided the statistical data about the choosing factors of future professions and the share of those who declare having the experience of mission.
 The result of the survey is that at least half of Ukrainian youth think that the idea of mission is important for their choice of profession. Mission as a phenomenon shows the unity of structural elements: Desire – Talent – Realization – Social or Spiritual Benefit. The aim of transpersonal goodness is the core of the phenomenon of mission and the integrity of its structure. Teaching as a career definitely needs mission, even though it is not true for some teachers. That is undoubted thesis for Ukrainians. Teacher’s mission is to bring young people to their own missions. If the essence of education is a rising people to the level of spirit out of the level of matter, the task of a teacher is to bring up that ability of that rising in the youth. People of mission are those who have to be in the center of the development of education system reforms in Ukraine.

Concepts of Mission in Scottish Presbyterianism: The SSPCK, the Highlands and Britain's American Colonies, 1709–40

This article examines the Society in Scotland for Propagating Christian Knowledge (SSPCK) and its missions in the Highlands and Britain's American colonies. Constituted in 1709 and operating as an auxiliary arm of the Church of Scotland, the SSPCK aimed to extend Christianity in ‘Popish and Infidel parts of the world’. It founded numerous Highland charity schools, and from 1729 sponsored missions to Native Americans in New England and Georgia. Missions were increasingly important in British overseas expansion; consequently, historians have viewed the society as a civilizing agency, which deployed religious instruction to assimilate ‘savage’ heathens into the fold of Britain's empire. This article suggests that the SSPCK was equally concerned with Christianization: missionaries focused on spiritual edification for the salvation of souls, indicating a disjuncture between the society's objectives and the priorities of imperial expansion. It also challenges the parity assumed by historians between the SSPCK's domestic and foreign missions, arguing that the society increasingly prioritized colonial endeavours in an attempt to recover providential favour. In doing so, it sheds new light on Scottish ideas of mission during the first half of the eighteenth century, and reassesses the Scottish Church's role in Britain's emerging empire.

Digital India Programme is undoubtedly a laudable vision of current government of making India a digitally empowered economy through development of latest technological infrastructure and promoting their adoption and use by citizens. Successful and timely implementation of this projects will enhance India's competitiveness. In this paper discuss about the conceptual idea of laudable mission of making India an economy connected through a robust digital network which talks about the vision and mission, various Projects aligned in line with this vision and how it integrates with India's National Economic Agenda. Further this paper presents the comparative analysis of India's standing in E-governance and E-Participation indices vis-a-vis world, Regional and Sub-Regional Averages over period of 2003–2016. Finally, we review some of the E-Governance initiative around the globe like USA, Australia, Singapore, France and Estonia and challenges in path of Digital India Programme. The final section of this paper concludes.
