AIM: To study the chemical constituents of Saussurea laniceps. METHODS: The chemical constituents were isolated and purified by various chromatographic techniques. Their structures were determined on the basis of physical properties and spectroscopic data. RESULTS: Fourteen compounds were isolated and elucidated as cynaropicrin (1), 3α, 8α-dihydroxy-11βH-11,13-dihydrodehydrocostuslactone (2), mokko lactone (3), 3α-hydroxy-11βH-11, 13-dihydrodehydrocostuslactone 8-O-β-D-glucoside (4), 3β-hydroxy-5α, 6α-epoxy-7-megastigmen-9-one (5), acacetin (6), coumarin (7), syringin (8), benzylglucopyranoside (9), 4'-hydroxyacetophenone (10), 4-methyiphenol (11), β-amyrin (12), daucosterol (13) and uridine (14). CONCLUSION: All fourteen compounds were isolated from the title plant for the first time.
