Composite fluorescence probe towards a smart coating for early corrosion detection of carbon steel

Herein, a composite fluorescent probe was developed as a smart indicator in acrylic resin-based coatings for the early detection of steel corrosion. The Fe3+-sensitive Rhodamine B derivative probe (Rxbxja) was synthesized, and the SiO2 nanoparticle-supported probe S-Rxbxja was prepared through the hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). The successful synthesis of S-Rxbxja was confirmed using a variety of techniques i.e. SEM and FTIR. A fluorescence microscope was utilized to assess the self-reporting performance of coatings. EIS and seawater immersion tests were employed to evaluate the corrosion resistance of the coating. The fluorescence test results revealed the absence of premature fluorescence in the composite coating, owing to the exceptional compatibility between S-Rxbxja and the coating. The scratched area in the 0.5 wt% sensor-doped coatings exhibited fluorescent and colorimetric dual-channel signals after soaking in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution for 2 h before any visible corrosion phenomenon. The EIS results demonstrated that the |Z|0.01Hz value of composite coating maintained 107 Ω cm2 even after being immersed in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution for 7 days, indicating the excellent anti-corrosion properties of the S-Rxbxja coating. Moreover, mechanical property tests showed that the S-Rxbxja coating had excellent mechanical properties due to the introduction of SiO2 nanoparticles.

Fabrication of water-resistant and abrasion- resistant superhydrophilic coatings

Superhydrophilic coatings show promising applications in the anti-fogging and self-cleaning fields. However, the application of transparent superhydrophilic coatings faces two challenges: abrasion and water immersion leading to loss of superhydrophilicity. Herein, we contribute Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) to enhancing abrasion resistance by integrating into network-like structures within coatings, and water resistance by adsorbing sodium alkenyl sulfonate (AOS) facilitated by the positive charge within their cavities, respectively. Hydrolyzed tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as crosslinking agents combines with the abundant hydroxyl groups (Si-OH) on the surface of HNTs nanotubes and glass substrate to form a three-dimensional network structure. The results demonstrate that the designed HNTs tube coatings have strong abrasion and water resistance accompanied by anti-fogging and self-cleaning properties, which can withstand 800 cycles of Taber abrasion under a load of 250 g, and 90 min of immersion in boiling water. Furthermore, the coated surface exhibited negligible contamination after 153 days in an outdoor environment, which indicates a commendable long-term self-cleaning capability. Therefore, the introduction of HNTs nanotubes can provide a useful strategy for the development of superhydrophilic coatings for anti-fogging and self-cleaning with excellent abrasion and water resistance.

Co-hydrolysis of TEOS and DDS to obtain a modified hydrophobic SiO2 insulation layer for FeSiBC amorphous magnetic powder core with low energy loss

The hysteresis effect and eddy currents caused by alternating magnetic fields greatly impede the improvement of the working efficiency and performance stability of soft magnetic powder cores. In this work, modified hydrophobic SiO2 nanoparticles were prepared by tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and dimethyl-diethoxy-silane (DDS) as co-precursors through sol–gel methods. The effect of different proportions of DDS and TEOS on the amorphous magnetic powder cores performance was studied. It was demonstrated that the insulation layer in DDS and TEOS co-precursors hydrolyzed composite powders exhibited more uniform distribution compared with TEOS hydrolyzed alone counterpart. The introduction of methyl groups reduced the accumulation of hydrolysis intermediates on the surface of FeSiBC powders. Furthermore, the addition of DDS reduced eddy current loss significantly with a low hysteresis loss. The total energy loss of the DDS and TEOS co-hydrolysis powder core were reduced by 16.1 % and 7.7 % at 1 MHz, 0.05 T compared to the uncoated powder core and the TEOS hydrolysis alone counterpart, respectively. The presented results provide insights into improving the application range and energy utilization efficiency for the magnetic powder cores.

Coating of expanded polystyrene spheres by TiO2 and SiO2–TiO2 thin films

Expanded polystyrene spheres (EPS) were coated by SiO2–TiO2 or TiO2 for application as a fluidized bed in the photocatalytic reactor. Silica coating was realized by the sol–gel process carried out in a vacuum evaporator at 60–70 °C. The most uniform and thin layer of silica coating was obtained by the Stöber method based on the hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) catalysed by an ammonia solution. Effective TiO2 coating was obtained by the immersion of EPS in the titania aqueous suspension and evaporation of water in a vacuum evaporator. Heating of EPS spheres coated by SiO2, TiO2 or SiO2–TiO2 at the temperatures of 120–140 °C resulted in a shrinkage of their volume. For the thick layer coating, a strong corrugation of EPS surface was observed. The photocatalytic tests showed, that highly corrugated surface of coated EPS slowed down ethylene decomposition, whereas a thin layer coating of both, SiO2 and TiO2 was advantageous.Graphical abstract

Fabrication of a PdCu@SiO2@Cu core-shell-satellite catalyst for the selective hydrogenation of acetylene.

Pd25Cu75@SiO2 core-shell and PdCu@SiO2@Cu core-shell-satellite architectures were fabricated by silica-coating of Pd25Cu75 colloids in a reverse microemulsion. Hydrolysis of tetraethylorthosilicate in the reverse microemulsion containing hydrazine and ammonia yielded a core-shell structure, while the use of ammonia only, instead of a mixture of hydrazine and ammonia, formed a core-shell-satellite structure. The ammonia-leached copper species migrated onto the developing silica shell and formed smaller Cu clusters. Air-calcination at 673 K followed by H2-reduction at 773 K of the as-synthesized samples removed the organic surfactants and generated the permeable porous silica shells. The core-shell catalyst consisted of a metal core (8.5 nm) and a silica shell (7.8 nm), while the core-shell-satellite catalyst was composed by a metal core (7.0 nm), a silica shell (8.0 nm), and satellite Cu clusters (1.4 nm) on the silica shell. When used to catalyze the selective hydrogenation of acetylene to ethylene, the core-shell-satellite catalyst showed substantially enhanced activity and stability because of the synergetic catalysis between the metal core and the surrounding Cu clusters.

Improvement in properties of mesoporous MCM-41 spheres using buffer solutions as additives under room temperature

MCM-41 spheres of 300–400 nm size were synthesized using a modified Stöber method at room temperature. We found that the pH value changed with the hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate in the process, which was not conducive to the formation of ordered mesoporous structures. Therefore, buffer solutions (NaH2PO4 + NaOH, Glycine + NaOH, KCl + NaOH) were added to the system and the pH was successfully stabilized. MCM-41 particles synthesized using the buffer solution have a more ordered mesoporous structure. Results demonstrate that the BET surface area of MCM-41 improved from 1490 ± 7 to 1672 ± 9 m2/g after adding the buffer solution. The efficacy of this synthetic method may be attributed to the stabilized pH value and enhanced effect of H2NCH2COO ions on the formation of ordered templates.

Preparation of dispersed hollow carbon spheres assisted by silica/carbon shell isolation for supercapacitors

Nitrogen-doped mesoporous hollow carbon spheres are crucial in energy storage and the strategy of converting the inexpensive polymer polyacrylonitrile (PAN) into hollow carbon spheres needs to be improved. In this study, polystyrene/polyacrylonitrile (PSPAN) composite spheres were subjected to silica/carbon shell isolation to prepare nitrogen-doped hollow carbon spheres. In the carbonization process, the pyrolysis of PSPAN lead to the cavity due to the total decomposition behavior of PS. Due to the isolation of silica/carbon shells, the formation of a molten state during the pyrolysis process of PAN can be effectively prevented, thus avoiding the agglomeration of carbon spheres, and obtaining dispersed and regular hollow carbon spheres. The pore structure and specific surface area of the material were adjusted by hydrolyzing tetraethyl orthosilicate on the template surface and introducing dopamine for polymerization after different times. The hollow structure, nitrogen doping characteristics and abundant mesopores endow the NHCS with high performance in supercapacitor.

Organically modified mesoporous silica as a performance additive in tubular quenched polypropylene films

Mesoporous silica nanoparticles were synthesized by base-catalyzed hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate in the water-acetone medium. For surface modification of mesoporous silica, commercially available silane, 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate was reacted with mono-thioglycerol via 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yl)oxidanyl (TEMPO) aided thiol-ene reaction, and the obtained silane was incorporated on the surface of neat mesoporous silica to graft extended alkyl chains terminating in hydroxyl groups. The prepared MSNs were characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering. These MSNs were compared to conventionally used commercial silica as an additive in tubular quenched polypropylene films (TQPP) for their anti-blocking, thermal, mechanical, optical, and barrier properties. Organic modification of MSNs decreased the blocking force in TQPP films. The mechanical properties including % elongation and tensile strength increased for TQPP films with mesoporous silica, while it decreased for films containing commercial silica. Both modified and unmodified MSNs decreased haze and enhanced gloss in TQPP films, showing improved optical properties as compared to commercial silica particles. In TQPP film with modified MSNs, a reduced value of the water contact angle was obtained, indicating better wettability of the surface of the TQPP film.

Transparent and superhydrophobic FHA/SiO2 coatings with obvious anti-soiling performance for photovoltaic modules

Dust deposition on photovoltaic (PV) modules obviously affects power generation efficiency. In order to solve this problem, a fluorinated hydroxyacrylate emulsion (FHA)/SiO2 nanoparticles coating with superhydrophobic (SH) surface and visible light transmittance greater than 93 % has been prepared. A silica sol obtained by hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) is used to cross-link FHA chains, resulting in a significant increase in the SH stability of the SH coating. An FHA hydrophobic coating with smooth surface was also prepared as a control sample. Both anti-soiling and dust removal performances of these two types of coatings were studied. The results show that both the hydrophobic coating and the SH coating have better anti-soiling and dust removal performances compared with bare glass. Among them, the SH coating exhibits better performance. The SH coating loses its SH property after being placed outdoors due to dust deposition. However, washing with water can remove most of the dust and restore its SH property. Moreover, the SH coating shows excellent self-cleaning properties when placed outdoors under low precipitation or light rain. In addition, the SH coating also shows good resistance to the impact of sand and water drops. This simple method of preparing SH coatings is expected to find use in the field of photovoltaic modules.

Palladium CNC-pincer complex supported on magnetic nanospindles as a highly efficient and recyclable nanocatalyst in Mizoroki–Heck cross-coupling and reduction of nitroarenes

Fe3O4 nanospindles were synthesized through the hydrothermal method followed by thermal treatment. The composite of Fe3O4@SiO2 core–shell nanospindles was synthesized by the Stuber process via the hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) in the presence of Fe3O4 nanospindles. Palladium triazine‐bridged bisimidazolium pincer complex was successfully supported on Fe3O4@SiO2 core–shell nanospindles. The magnetic nanospindles‐supported palladium CNC-pincer complex was used as a practical and recyclable catalyst in the Mizoroki–Heck cross-coupling reaction and reduction of nitroarenes.

Self-assembly of porous cellulose fibers and the incorporation of graphene carbon quantum dots for stable luminescence

Porous fibers as excellent carriers can be used to prepare photoluminescence materials. Herein, cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) by sulfuric acid hydrolysis. After CNCs were squeezed into a coagulating bath containing silicon precursors obtained by the hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate, porous cellulose fibers were constructed through self-assembly and then incorporated with graphene carbon quantum dots (GQDs) to prepare porous photoluminescence cellulose fibers. The silicon precursor amount, self-assembly time, and corrosion time were optimized. In addition, the morphology, structure and optical properties of the products were investigated. These results showed that as-prepared porous cellulose fibers with mesopores presented loose and porous mesh. Interestingly, the porous photoluminescence cellulose fibers exhibited blue fluorescence, and the maximum emission peak appeared at 430 nm under the excitation wavelength of 350 nm. Furthermore, the relative fluorescence intensity of the porous photoluminescence cellulose fibers was significantly enhanced compared with nonporous photoluminescence cellulose fibers. This work provided a new method to prepare environmentally and stably photoluminescence fibers, which had potential applications in anti-counterfeit packaging and smart packaging.

Non-ceruloplasmin-bound copper and copper speciation in serum with extraction using functionalized dendritic silica spheres followed by ICP-MS detection

The quantification of non-ceruloplasmin-bound copper (NCBC) and total copper in biological fluids is highly required for understanding the correlation of copper with various physiological processes and diseases. In the present work, we developed dendritic spherical silica particles functionalized with EDTA, shortly as DMSPs-EDTA, from the hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate with the aid of structure-directing agents and subsequent modification of EDTA. DMSPs-EDTA serves as adsorbent with abundant binding sites to facilitate efficient extraction of NCBC. The retained NCBC on DMSPs-EDTA may be readily recovered by stripping with HNO3 (2 mol L−1). By hyphenating with ICP-MS detection, it provides a limit of detection of 1.3 pmol for NCBC. The degradation of ceruloplasmin with 200 mmol L−1 H2O2 releases the bound copper as NCBC to distribute among other ligands, which may be efficiently retained by the adsorbent and facilitate the detection of total copper. The linear ranges of 0.21–10 μmol L−1 and 0.42–30 μmol L−1 were derived for the detection of NCBC and total copper. The recovery rates for spiked NCBC or total copper in serum were derived to be 97–108% and 94–102%, respectively. The analysis of serum for a healthy subject resulted in 1.8 μmol L−1 NCBC and 9.5 μmol L−1 total copper. In addition, the proportions of 8.5–12% for NCBC were derived from the serum of healthy adults, while those for the patients with lung, hepatocellular and esophageal carcinoma were found to be 10–12%, illustrating no obvious difference against the normal group.

Reactive Compatibilization of Impact Copolymer Polypropylene and Organically Modified Mesoporous Silica to Prepare Composites Possessing Enhanced Mechanical Properties

Mesoporous silica was evaluated as functionalized filler in impact copolymer polypropylene (ICP) in its original form as well as after organic modification. Mesoporous silica was synthesized by base-catalyzed hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate in the water–acetone medium. The organic modification of mesoporous silica was carried out using commercially available silane with a terminal unsaturated bond and by synthesizing silane precursor by chemical treatment via TEMPO-initiated thiol–ene chemistry to introduce alkyl chains terminating in hydroxyl groups. The characterization for all types of mesoporous silica prepared was done using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). ICP–mesoporous silica composites were prepared using 1, 5, and 10 phr mesoporous silica and organically modified mesoporous silica loading via reactive compatibilization and were tested for their thermal, morphological, rheological, and mechanical properties. The addition of mesoporous and organically modified mesoporous silica enhanced thermal stability and nucleation with respect to neat ICP. Tensile and flexural moduli were improved while maintaining their impact strength. Analysis of rheological properties revealed a rise in zero-shear rate viscosity in ICP–mesoporous silica composites. DMA studies showed higher storage and loss modulus with the addition of mesoporous silica in ICP.

Ultrasound-assisted synthesis of rGO/SiO2-based nanosheets and their electrochemical performances in Li-ion batteries.

In this study, a facile approach has been developed to fabricate GO/SiO2 nanosheets by the hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) in the graphene oxide (GO) solution with the assistance of the ultrasonication. The morphology and structure of the SiO2/GO nanosheets were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy. The results showed that the covalently bonded SiO2 nanoparticles onto the GO sheets were dense and uniform. The agglomeration of the nanosheets was prevented by the ultrasonication and the layer sizes decreased throughout the synthesis process. The size and thickness of the SiO2 nanoparticles were determined by the initially and externally added TEOS amounts, respectively, on the GO surface. The anode performance of the thermally reduced rGO/SiO2 nanosheets was also observed in the Li-ion half-cell. The reversible capacity of the synthesized TrGOSN-1.5 anode was 424 mA h g-1 at a current density of 100 mA g-1.

Effect of hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) on titanium distribution of TS-1 zeolite

The hydrolysis process of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) was tracked by FT-IR analysis, and the effect of hydrolysis time on the distribution of titanium species in TS-1 zeolites was discussed through XRF and UV-vis. The catalytic oxidation performance of TS-1 zeolite was tested by 1-hexene epoxidation as a model reaction. The results show that moderate hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate can effectively inhibit the formation of extra-framework Ti and increase the content of framework Ti. However, shorter or longer hydrolysis time is not conducive to the entry of titanium into the skeleton and reduce the catalytic performance of TS-1 zeolites. TS-1 prepared with 2 h TEOS hydrolysis time has the best catalytic performance for epoxidation of 1-hexene. Under the reaction conditions of atmospheric pressure and 60 °C, the conversion of 1-hexene can reach 37.5% and the selectivity of 1,2-epoxy hexane can maintain at about 85%, and the result has a guiding role for the development of olefin epoxidation catalyst.

Polyamidoamine dendrimer-functionalized silica nanocomposite with polydopamine coating for dispersive micro solid-phase extraction of benzoylurea insecticides in water samples

近年来,由农药残留导致的环境污染问题已引起社会的广泛关注,开发便捷高效的分析方法对农药残留进行检测和监测十分必要。研究设计并成功制备了聚多巴胺涂敷的聚酰胺-胺树状分子功能化的二氧化硅复合材料(SiO2-PAMAM-PDA),并采用透射电镜对其进行表征。开发了以此复合材料为吸附剂的分散微固相萃取方法(D-μ-SPE),并结合高效液相色谱对水基质中的4种苯甲酰脲类杀虫剂(BUs)残留进行了富集检测。多巴胺结构中含有丰富的苯环、氨基及羟基,可与目标物形成氢键、π-π相互作用,从而增强了材料对苯甲酰脲的萃取能力。对吸附剂用量、萃取时间等可能影响萃取效率的条件进行了单因素优化。在最优条件下,该方法的线性范围在10~500 μg/L之间,根据3倍信噪比(S/N)计算所得的检出限(LOD)为1.1~2.1 μg/L,回收率为82.8%~94.1%,相对标准偏差(RSD)为2.1%~8.0%。将建立的方法与已报道的以苯甲酰脲作为目标物的方法进行了对比,发现方法样品用量及萃取剂用量均较少,且所需前处理时间较短,有机溶剂消耗也较少,为苯甲酰脲类农药的检测提供了更快速、绿色的选择。为评估所开发方法的实际样品适用性,将其应用于3种河水样品中4种苯甲酰脲类杀虫剂的分析检测,所得回收率及RSD分别为69.5%~99.4%和0.2%~9.5%,表明此方法在实际样品中同样具有较高的准确性和精密度。

Activated carbon fibers with different hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity modified by pDA-SiO2 coating for gravity oil–water separation

Three-dimensional (3D) superwetting materials have attracted significant interest in oil–water separation due to their high selectivity and notable flux. However, complex preparation procedures and material contamination severely limit their practical application in oily wastewater. This study was inspired by the mussel strategy to prepare hybrid coated pDA-SiO2 by simultaneous polymerization of dopamine (DA) and hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) under weak alkaline conditions. They were firmly deposited on hydrophilic activated carbon fibers (ACF1) or hydrophobic activated carbon fibers (ACF2) by a simple dip-coating method to form pDA-SiO2-ACF1 or pDA-SiO2-ACF2 with excellent superwetting, to be used for oil–water separation under gravity drive. The pDA-SiO2-ACF1 and pDA-SiO2-ACF2 exhibited excellent hydrophilicity and underwater lipophobicity due to the synergistic effect of hydrophilic groups and nanostructure roughness, their water contact angles were 0° (WCA), and the underwater oil contact angles (UWOCA) of different viscosities were greater than 150°. Furthermore, it provided ultra-high permeation flux (pure water flux ≥ 2.7 × 105 L·m−2·h−1) due to numerous pores and super-large pore size. Meanwhile, the interweaving of the fibers inside the material made it possible to separate the oil droplet emulsion smaller than its particle size. Based on the superwetting and the material's properties, the composite material had superior oil rejection efficiency and separation performance for oil–water mixtures, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) stabilized oil–water emulsion, and actual oily wastewater. More interestingly, the pDA-SiO2 decorated ACF1 and ACF2 had remarkable oil resistance stability and recyclability after the water washing treatment and 25 cycles of emulsion separation. Therefore this 3D material, with its simple manufacturing method, high flux, and super oil resistance, offers significant potential for treating oily wastewater.

Drug release behaviors of flexible SiO2‐polyvinyl pyrrolidone electrospun membranes responsive to multiple stimuli

AbstractFlexible SiO2‐polyvinyl pyrrolidone hybrid electrospun membranes were prepared using the partially hydrolyzed tetraethyl orthosilicate as cross‐linking component based on electrostatic spinning. Then ibuprofen (IBU) was absorbed on the fiber membrane and blocked by grafting azobenzene groups. The target membranes' excellent flexibility, good water resistance, and acceptable mechanical properties were shown. When the content of SiO2was 17%, the membranes could withstand at least 50 g tensile strength. Meanwhile and the water contact angle of the membranes was close to that of the skin, which was 68.44°. Also controlled in vitro release performance of IBU under UV irradiation at 37°C and pH of 6.5 was observed. The release behavior was well fitted by Ritger–Peppas kinetic model, suggesting the diffusion release mechanism of the drug. In addition, the membranes possessed the ability to release drugs into hydrogels by self‐driving. Thus, the easily prepared membranes possessed the potential to release drugs in different environments.

Hierarchically Porous Mesostructured Polydopamine Nanospheres and Derived Carbon for Supercapacitors.

Polydopamine (PDA), with similar chemical and physical properties to eumelanin, is a typical artificial melanin material. With various functional groups, good biocompatibility, and photothermal conversion ability, PDA attracts great interest and is extensively studied. Endowing PDA with a porous structure would increase its specific surface area, therefore would significantly improve its performance in different application fields. However, creating abundant pores within the PDA matrix is a great challenge. Herein, a self-assembly/etching method is proposed to prepare hierarchically porous mesostructured PDA nanospheres. The oxidative polymerization of dopamine and hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate were coupled to co-assemble with a polyelectrolyte-surfactant complex template to form a mesostructured PDA/silicate nanocomposite. After removing templates and etching of silica, hierarchically porous PDA nanospheres were obtained with specific surface area and pore volume as high as 302 m2 g-1 and 0.67 cm3 g-1, respectively. Moreover, via subsequent carbonization and silica-etching, ordered mesoporous N-doped carbon microspheres (OMCMs) with ∼2 nm ordered mesopores and ∼20 nm secondary nanopores could be obtained. When used as electrodes of supercapacitors, the OMCMs exhibited a specific capacity of 341 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 with excellent rate capability, and the OMCM-based symmetric supercapacitor delivered a high energy density of 14.1 W h kg-1 at a power density of 250 W kg-1 and minor capacitance fading (only 2.6%) after 10,000 cycles at 2 A g-1.

Water-/Oil-Repellent Polyacrylonitrile Nanofiber Air Filter Modified with Silica Nanoparticles and Fluorine Compounds

Highly efficient particulate matter (PM) filter membranes with good resistance to wetting are highly desirable given the negative environmental impact of increasing PM pollution. In this study, a self-cleaning and PM-filtering fibrous membrane (F-SAPAN) was prepared by attaching silica nanoparticles (SiNPs) on the surface of modified polyacrylonitrile using a sol–gel approach and then adding a low surface energy 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltrichlorosilane (FOTS) coating. The SiNPs were generated by the hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate and could be readily loaded on the surface of the fiber, thanks to hydrogen bonding. In this way, fibrous membranes with a uniform covering of SiNPs could be prepared in large quantities in a short time. The modification of SiNPs by FOTS endows the fibrous membrane with excellent water and oil resistance (a water contact angle of up to 156° and an oil contact angle of up to 144°), and the free-rolling of water droplets can be achieved on a slope of only 6°. The membrane is only 0.03 mm thick and displays excellent filtration efficiency (>99.9%) and pressure drop (366.4 Pa) for PM1. The membranes also display good flexibility, mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and antiash properties and prove to be a reliable material for PM filtration in complex environments.
