As if by some magic power, my eyes were swiftly drawn to a long untouched text called The Plague . One year on from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with a tendency to favour grim reality over escapism, I took it down to read. Searching the internet later to check if anyone else from the GP world had joined me, I found two esteemed colleagues writing in this column who had referenced it (https://bjgplife.com/absurdGP and https://bjgplife.com/xmas), both noting the eternal human struggle to make meaning out of uncontrollable events and challenges. REPRESENTATIONS OF REFUGEES AND LOCAL PEOPLE IN GREEK POETRY DURING THE EUROPEAN MIGRANT CRISIS

This paper looks into Greek poetry written, in its bulk, during the years of the European migrant crisis (2014-2018) for ways in which refugees and locals are presented. The poems are analyzed in the framework of critical discourse analysis (CDA) in terms of the social language, situated meanings, intertextuality, figured worlds and discourses they contain (Gee, 2011). Greek poets see in refugees a heroic part of humanity and a manifestation of the human struggle and will to live; thus, they are sanctifying them, presenting them as martyrs. Moreover, Greek poets see locals and Westerners as insensitive villains who are after their eradication. This is obviously a distorted and hyperbolic point of view, which however may hide true aspects of reality in its exaggeration.

Muḥammad al-Māghūṭ’s rhetoric of sincerity: a major voice in modern Arabic poetry

ABSTRACT This article highlights the poetics of Syrian poet Muḥammad al-Māghūt ̣(1934-2006) as forging a poetic identity enacted as a series of performative contradictions between the empirical and the poetic selves in what amounts to a discourse of “rhetorical sincerity.” This poetic discourse employs a variety of devices to communicate that the irreducibility of Arab life can be contained neither in the polished spheres of art nor in political speech-making. By situating personas close to commonalities of human struggles without subtracting critical distance, al-Māghūṭ negotiates a modernistic consciousness with values of ṣidq (sincerity) and aṣāla (authenticity). Part one develops the concept of poetic sincerity and delineates al-Māghūt'̣s cultural battles. Part two examines al-Māghūt'̣s rhythmic irregularities in “al-Qatl” (The Killing) as a key component in accomplishing the non-literary task of his ṣidq. This interpretation will hopefully elucidate the rationale behind al-Māghūt'̣s import for later poetic generations.

Reading the Fourth Gospel in the COVID-19 pandemic context

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic situation persuades a reader of the Fourth Gospel to interpret the Scripture in new lights. In the contemporary context, the gospel of John has the potential to attune the attention of the reader towards the existential struggles of the people with myriad interpretative possibilities. The Jews often twinned sinfulness and sickness together, and in that light, they considered Jesus as a social sinner and his followers as a diseased community. The Johannine narrator realigns the struggles of the Sitz im Leben Kirche dynamically within the Sitz im Leben Jesu to present his defensive rhetoric. The Johannine community was composed of those who suffered quarantine, social isolation, sicknesses, resource deficiencies and continuous cleansing processes in the socio-religious and politico-cultural setting of their life. Jesus as the creator of the universe and the giver of life provides them hope in the midst of suffering and liberates them from the clutches of dehumanisation and marginalisation. A realignment of the Sitz im Leben COVID-19 within the framework of the Sitz im Leben Jesu/Sitz im Leben Kirche would guide us during the difficult times. Contribution: This article contributes to the reader a wider hermeneutical framework and a new way forward in interpreting the Fourth Gospel by taking into consideration the ongoing struggle of humanity across the globe during the COVID-19 pandemic situation. As a narrative, contextual and theological interpretation of the Fourth Gospel, the current article fits well within the scope of HTS Teologiese Studies/Theological Studies .

U-1 Analytical Study of Imam Shami’s Tafseeri Points in Sublul Huda

Allah sent the Prophets (peace and blessings of Allah be upon them) to lead mankind out of disbelief, polytheism and misguidance, and to call them to Islam and guidance. To carry forward this struggle of humanity, the great scholars and leaders of this Muslim Ummah went ahead. Are there any commentators, narrators and biographers among them? One of these biographers is Imam Muhammad ibn Yusuf al-Shami, (942 AH) was born in Salehiya, a town in Damascus, Syria and died in the town of Barquqiyah in Cairo. The sources of life of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) are the Holy Qur'aan, books of hadith and books of Shamaa'il, etc. A well-known book on the subject is "Sibal-ul-Huda wal-Rashad fi SiratKhair-ul-Ibad" written by Imam Muhammad ibn Yusuf al-Shami. In the present article, we presented the verses of The Holy Quran which are used in Sublul Huda to know his tafseeri points, causes of ‘Nazool’ and methodology. Imam Shami discussed several verses of The Holy Quran in his book at different places to state life of the Holy Mohammad PBUH. He mentioned many times one verse of the Holy Quran under different topic and chapters, and he attained different meanings and concepts from that verse to describe life of the Holy Prophet Mohammad PBUH. In this article, it is analyzed that how he get meanings from verses. How Imam shami describes the life of Holy Prophet PBUH in differentways. Furthermore it will be discussed the introduction of Imam Shami, Sublul Huda and its methodology.

Assessment of Network & Processor Virtualization in Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing is an emerging field in applied computer science. Cloud computing depends on virtualization, where a sole physical resource is virtualized into numerous virtual resources. Resources that are being virtualized include physical storage, processing units, volatile memories, network, and further physical resources. Processor and network virtualization offer several advantages like lessening hardware cost, energy consumption, and the human struggle for administration and management of resources. In this article, the primary concentration was on the evaluation and assessment of network virtualization between different cloud computing hypervisors and to contrast their evaluated results. This comparison is based on a few experiments performed on Citrix XenServer, Microsoft Hyper-V, and VMware vSphere hypervisors. XenServer uses Open vSwitch for its network virtualization whereas Hyper-V and vSphere use Microsoft network virtualization and vSphere switch for managing their network virtualization respectively. We have found that virtual networks are further scalable and secure than physical networks. We can assign multiple virtual interfaces or connections to a single virtual machine. In light of various experiments, in which we have compared non-virtualized with virtualized scenarios, for all these above-mentioned hypervisors, we found out that we can use virtual networks with and without VLAN Tags or VLAN Ids. Hyper-V provides further flexibility and options regarding VLAN Tag in comparison with XenServer or vSphere. We have also found that XenServer and vSphere give us extra network throughput in comparison with Hyper-V in terms of TCP and UDP whereas Round Trip Time (RTT) in the virtual network of all hypervisors are high in comparison with the non-virtual environment. Network CPU usage is also measured and found that vSphere and XenServer together consume more CPU during network activity in comparison with Hyper-V. We also found that processor virtualization did not majorly result from the average schedule time in comparison with a non-virtualized machine. We consequently conclude that in general a small reduction in the performance, in the case of virtualization is insignificant as compared with the advantages we get from virtualization when using cloud hypervisors. For the application of virtualization, this work will motivate to set up of data centers using a virtualized environment.

Delineating pan‐Africanism from contemporary conceptual deflections

AbstractIs pan‐Africanism relevant today? Against the background of challenges to its continued relevance through assaults on its fundamental tenets, this intervention reaffirms the integrity and undiminished salience of pan‐Africanism as a philosophy of radical action for emancipation of black humanity. Pan‐Africanism represents the complexities of black political and intellectual thought over 200 years. Politically inspired conceptual deflections of the authentic tenets of pan‐Africanism threaten the essences of the ancient struggle of black humanity as one people for holistic emancipation. As configured, Africa is confronted with widespread foreign security deployments on its soil that it is unable to check. There is internal connivance in the new scramble to partition the continent. Meeting the challenges implied by the axiomatic commonality of identity, inexorable destiny, and the singularity of the ultimate interest of black humanity has remained the enduring challenge of pan‐Africanism. In the face of this challenge have emerged conceptual deflections to provide respectability to attempts to diminish the depth and scope of pan‐Africanism. The criticality of the continued integrity of the precepts of pan‐Africanism is imperative because intellectual traditions matter in shaping organizing principles directing any struggle. Finally, it is affirmed that the greatest disincentive to pan‐African consolidation is the reality of African statehood as private enterprises of a few political‐entrepreneurial “poliprenuer” families. The way forward is to consolidate Africa into a continental republic.

Desperately Seeking Justice in Okky Madasari’s Bound

Resistance is often performed by marginal people as the response to the situation that is not benefitted them. Bound is a novel by Okky Madasari, which talks about marginal people’s resistance to injustice and their desperate struggle for humanity and decent life. The characters in this novel show the struggle for freedom and their resistance to the repressing power. The issue of resistance and the struggle against injustice is well explored for the readers to get the picture of what they feel and struggle for. This paper discusses the persistence of the characters’ resistance in the novel. This study aims to describe the resistance performed by some characters in the novel by applying the concept of resistance by James Scott (1985), elaborating the form of open resistance and closed resistance. This study indicates two forms of resistance in the novel, namely open resistance and closed resistance. Some characters in this novel, Cak Man, Sasana, and Jaka held an open resistance in the form of demonstration against the factory employer. Jaka, Sasana, and female workers are among the people who did resistance against the dominant group. The closed resistance is carried out by several characters in this novel, like Sasana's parents, who cried and cursed when Sasana was tortured by his friends and the perpetrators could not be brought into court because of their fathers’ position as the general and government officials. 

DESIGN FEATURES AND HAZARDS OF HYDROGEN FUEL CELL CARS

Introduction. The gradual and relentless development of alternative energy sources and the constant strug-gle of humanity with excess greenhouse gas emissions led to the simultaneous development of vehicles with alternative energy sources. Currently, vehicles that run exclusively on electricity and are virtually safe for the environment are becoming increasingly popular. Among the variety of vehicles running on electricity, it is necessary to single out vehicles that use compressed hydrogen to generate electricity. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (HFCV) are already widely used in the United States, Germany, Japan, and the rest of the world, and their governments are constantly expanding and developing the appropriate infrastructure for them.The purpose and objectives of the study. The paper analyses the basic structure of HFCV and identifies the main scenarios of possible emergencies, namely: fire or explosion of fuel tanks with hydrogen; leakage, flaming of hydrogen from fuel lines (tank) under the high pressure; high-pressure hydrogen jet fire; leakage of hydrogen in the compartment (garage, closed parking) without further combustion.Methods. In the work on the subsequent literature review, the probable dangers for the personnel of the emergency rescue units involved in the elimination of certain emergency scenarios were identified.Results. It is established that: during the combustion of HFCV the most probable jet fire of hydrogen (flame temperature can reach 2000 0C), and also possible explosion of hydrogen cylinders or gas-air mixture with a significant range. Secondly, leakage of hydrogen in the compartment can cause its destruction in a relatively short period (about 15 seconds), and/or poisoning (asphyxia) of people due to a sharp decrease in oxygen concentration.Conclusions. The analysis and generalization of existing knowledge on the potential hazard of HFCV is conducted, electric cars give us reasonable grounds to argue that the regulatory framework for the construction and installation of security systems for land and underground parking, places of accumulation of such vehicles is not adapted to today's realities. At the same time, the following studies should be directed at estimating probablee risks of such emergencies.

Sustainable development, as a conceptual phrase that encompasses the struggle of endangered humanity for salvation, appeared at the end of the 20th century, ie. at a time when the world is facing a multitude of existential threats posed by man's own negligence towards nature and himself. These threats include the caused natural deformations of the climate and the environment, on the one hand, and mutual destructive national interests of exploitative and existential character (war, terrorist, hegemonic, migrant, etc.), on the other hand. In this context, sustainable development is reduced to the possible development of society in all areas, which can last indefinitely, as well as be replaced by new development that has the same characteristics. That is why the United Nations (UN) and other major world organizations in recent years have agendas, resolutions, conventions and the like. began the struggle for the frontal world introduction of saving sustainable development. However, this largest and most complex world endeavor has just begun, and in order to be successful, it needs to be adequately systematized and organized - which needs to be resolved quickly. In such a current world reality, a very important role is played by political and professional factors that should achieve sustainable development at all levels. There is very little talk about that in the current scientific literature, so it is necessary to elaborate on the scientific-professional factor as more complex than the political one, which is what this scientific paper deals with. For its preparation, an appropriately prepared internal research project was used, in which all ideological factors (problem, subject, goals, hypotheses and research methods) were defined - with a brief overview of Serbia as an example of sustainable development. Accordingly, in this scientific paper, several important scientific information has been identified, especially related to the profile, role and organization of experts in sustainable development, as a scientific and professional factor in that.

Salvaging adulthood at youth work: Dignity, social disrespect, and the micro-politics of recognition in a polarized world

Grounded in an ethnographic study of a US fast food chain, this paper explores how the rising employment polarization under neoliberalism may pose a threat to dignity via the predicament of adults doing youth work. We draw on Axel Honneth’s theory of recognition to develop a tripartite framework of the micro-politics of recognition, aimed as a middle-range construct for guiding empirical studies of work through the lens of dignity. We argue that a study of dignity at work, with the everyday human struggle for recognition as the focal point, may help to illuminate the realities of contemporary work and enable a humanistic critique of contemporary capitalism. We also highlight adulthood as the underarticulated yet morally laden identity signifier in organizational inquiry, which may gain added importance as more adults enter occupations where few institutional supports of adulthood exist.

Monsters and posttraumatic stress: an experiential-processing model of monster imagery in psychological therapy, film and television

Trauma survivors may see images of monsters in nightmares and visions when experiencing posttraumatic stress. However, there has been little commentary on the significance and meaning of this imagery and the wider relationship between monster imagery and posttraumatic stress. Applying an integrated experiential-processing approach to working with trauma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, emphasis is placed on facilitating ‘processing’ or making sense of the trauma, psychologically, emotionally, existentially and culturally. Examining the interplay of these elements, this paper explores monsters as symbol and metaphor for unspoken or unprocessed personal and cultural trauma, vessels for symbolically representing underlying, unacknowledged fears and experience. This paper discusses how encounters with the monster onscreen, in mental imagery or metaphor, may be allegorical to the individual’s internal struggle with post-traumatic stress. The model presented is applied within an analysis of the symbolic representation of the trauma of cancer, cancer treatment and traumatic loss in survival horror movie The Shallows (Collet-Serra (dir) (2016). The Shallows. Columbia Pictures). Jungian ideas are integrated to consider monsters as emergent symbolisation of unspoken ‘shadow’ fears, such as those surrounding cancer. In an experiential-processing account of trauma, incongruence between self-concept (our beliefs about self and world) and our actual experience of traumatic events is viewed as a source of psychological distress, prompting a breakdown and reorganisation of the self-structure. It is proposed that trauma experience confronts us with our mortality and fragility, bringing us into contact with the sense of ‘abject’ horror represented by monster imagery. Creeds (2007. The monstrous feminine: film, feminism, psychoanalysis. Routledge, London and New York) description of the abject as the ‘place where meaning collapses’ is applied to an understanding of psychological trauma, given that encounters with existential threats may render the everyday meaningless, engendering a need for meaning-making. Monster imagery psychologically represents the collapsing border between our ideas about self and world, and the destabilising experience of the shattering of pre-trauma assumptions. In this account monsters are located within a wider, adaptive evolutionary drive towards the reduction of trauma-related psychological distress, through symbolising experience into awareness for processing and meaning making. In this way monsters may play a complex role in a human struggle to come to terms with overwhelming events.

"Shame on me... or Shame on You": The Connection Between Arts and Decision-making

Over time artists have grappled with the experiences of the soul, particularly the human struggle to be virtuous. In this research project, choreographic tools are used to examine expressionistic links between the movement of Auguste Rodin’s sculpture The Gates of Hell and the narrative of Dante Alighieri’s Dante’s Inferno. These works were intended to persuade men to be righteous instead of committing sin. Rodin’s attention to human anatomy centers the importance of the body’s organic creation of movement in this struggle. Attention to the physique and emotion of the human body in motion has enabled Rodin’s work to transcend “generations and nationalities with the utmost ease”. The choreographic research aims to connect the links between emotion, expressions, and narrative of the souls to today. In contrast to sin simply being a conscious individual choice, an individual could be influenced to engage in “unethical behavior” by a group. Using dancers’ interpretation of ‘moral injustices’ as a guide for motifs, the choreography entitled “Shame on Me… or Shame on You?” will be a group work embodying the struggle of humanity to be good in real time.

Діагностика коронавірусної інфекції як актуальна проблема державного рівня

The article presents current data referring to the main types of laboratory diagnosticity of coronavirus infection associated with severe acute coronavirus respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV-2), which has caused the pandemic, as defined by the World Health Organization in 2019. New viruses for people and the risks associated with them periodically remind countries about necessity to be always ready for emergencies in the field of biological safety. However, these risks may differ for different countries, so each country should develop its own national assessment based on a global risk assessment. Recently, the world's attention has been focused on the spread of the disease, which has been caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and was first recorded in China, in the city of Wuhan. There are many rumors about the virus today. On the one hand, there is an oversaturation of the information space with reports about coronavirus, and on the other hand, one can mark the low level of public awareness. Under conditions of a pandemic, all countries, despite their different political status and economic potential, have focused their efforts on a common enemy, the acute respiratory disease COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The issue of coronavirus infection diagnosticity becomes extraordinary relevant. In terms of a review of the scientific literature, the main data of human coronavirus infections history include the epidemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome (MERS) and the current pandemic COVID-19. The etiology of COVID-19, its epidemiology, pathogenesis, main clinical variants and their symptoms, classification by severity, methods of laboratory diagnosticity have been consistently described. To understand the trends in the development of a pandemic, it is extremely necessary to have a clear understanding of the immunological structure of the population with the determination of the proportion of persons with post-infectious immunity, since in the absence of specific immunoprophylaxis, population immunity can be a marker not only of the intensity of the epidemic process, but also of the prognosis of its development. Conclusion. The experience of humanity's struggle with biological threats indicates that success was achieved only under the condition of early diagnosis, correct therapy and prevention in the foci of diseases, aimed at their localization and elimination through the immediate implementation of primary anti-epidemic measures. Timely blocking of the spread of the causative agent of the infection allows you to effectively stop the development of any epidemic complications with the least medical and social losses in the optimal time frame. The use of time-tested standards of anti-epidemic protection is advisable in any emergency situation caused by pathogenic biological agents, including during the COVID-19 pandemic

Potential therapeutic effect of turmeric contents against SARS-CoV-2 compared with experimental COVID-19 therapies: in silico study

Inspired by the ‘There is no scientific evidence that turmeric prevents COVID-19’ statement made by WHO, the protective or therapeutic potential of the compounds in turmeric contents was investigated against COVID-19 with in silico methodology. The drugs used for experimental COVID-19 therapies were included in this study using the same method for comparison with turmeric components. The 30 turmeric compounds and nine drugs were performed in the docking procedure for vital proteins of COVID-19. With evaluations based on docking scores, the Prime MMGBSA binding free energy and protein-ligand interactions were identified in detail. The 100 ns MD simulations were also performed to assess the stability of the ligands at the binding site of the target proteins. The Root Mean Square Deviation (RMSD) is used to obtain the average displacement for a particular frame concerning a reference frame. The results of this study are suggesting that turmeric spice have a potential to inhibit the SARS-CoV-2 vital proteins and can be use a therapeutic or protective agent against SARS-CoV-2 via inhibiting key protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The compound 4, 23 and 6 are the most prominent inhibitor for the main protease, the spike glycoprotein and RNA polymerase of virus, respectively. The MD simulation validated the stability of ligand-protein interactions. The compactness of the complexes was shown using a radius of gyration. ADME properties of featured compounds are in range of 95% drug molecules. It is hoped that the outputs of this study will contribute to the struggle of humanity with COVID-19.
