Kemampuan Pemecahan Masalah High Order Thinking Skill Siswa Kelas VIII SMP Negeri 6 Mataram Tahun Pelajaran 2020/2021 Ditinjau Dari Prestasi Belajar Siswa

The research was aim to describe the ability of class VIII SMP Negeri 6 students 2020/2021 academic year in solving problems on HOTS questions nased on student learning achievement. This research is classified as qualitative-descriptive research. The subjects of this research were 37 students of class VIII D and VIII E of SMP Negeri 6 Mataram on the 2020/2021 academic year, the subjects were grouped according to the results of a high, medium, and low mathematics learning achievement by using results of the odd semester test for the 2020/2021 academic year as the reference. Data collection techniques used is test techniques and interview techniques. The test technique is 2 HOTS solving ability questions for number pattern material. The interview technique was used to obtain detailed information about the students' views on problem-solving steps on the questions. The results of HOTS problem-solving ability test were analyzed according to Polya stages of problem-solving abilities. Based on the results of data analysis of groups with high learning achievement students, 75% of students met the indicators of the stages of understanding problems and planning solutions, 100% of students fulfilled the stages of completing settlements, and no students were able to meet the stages of re-examination. From the group of students with moderate learning achievement, 70.6% of students were able to meet the stages of understanding the problem, 58.8% of students met the stages of planning a solution, and 35.3% of students fulfilled the stages of solving problems and checking back. From the group of students with low learning achievement, only 6.3% of students were able to fulfill the stages of understanding the problem, the rest were unable to fulfill the four stages of problem-solving Polya.

The development of mathematical HOTS questions based on banten culture

The resulted of a survey conducted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Develop-ment based on the 2018 Program for International Student Assessment were obtained from 78 countries, Indonesian students ranked 72nd in math ability. The reason is that the 2013 curricu-lum that has been implemented in Indonesia is eurocentric. The transformation sought in the field of education is the improvement of high order thinking skills and mathematical abilities. Educa-tion and culture cannot be separated from regular daily life because culture covers all aspects of life while education is a primary need for everyone. This study used the Research and Develop-ment (RD) method with the Martin Tessmer (1993) model, which is formative research. The validity of the values obtained above 0.80 means that the questions are valid. The level of practi-cality of the questions obtained is 96.25%, very practical category. The reliability coefficient of 0.891, reliable. The level of difficulty is known to be 80% of the items in the medium category, 20% of the items in the difficult category. The discriminatory power of the question is known to all items (100%) in good category, meaning that good questions are used to classify the level of stu-dents thinking abilities.

THE APPLICATION OF THE RASCH MODEL TO DEVELOP TWO-TIER MULTIPLE CHOICE HIGHER ORDER THINKING SKILL TEST ON MOTION AND FORCE

In Indonesia, students' higher order thinking skill is considered low and students still struggle to solve HOTS problems. One of the reasons is that students are unfamiliar with HOTS questions. This research aims to produce two – tier multiple choice test to measure students' higher order thinking skill on motion and force. The method used in this research is 4D by Thiagarajan. The test developed was validated by experts and was tested on 250 8th grade students in Pontianak. Analysis of the test used the Rasch Model to determine item fit, reliability, and difficulty levels using Winstep. Based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis, the test developed is feasible to measure students' higher order thinking skill with the content validity value score 0,84 and construct validity explained by the test 64,71%. The item reliability is excellent with the score of 0,94 but students have low consistency in answering the test. The test developed consist of 2 very difficult items, 6 difficult items, 5 easy items, and 2 very easy items.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MINIMUM COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT (AKM): OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FOR ENGLISH TEACHERS

Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) is the new evaluation system to monitor the education quality in Indonesia. Its implementation starts from 2021. This new system focuses on students’ literacy and numeracy skill without assessing any of school subjects. The purpose of this study is to investigate 1) the opportunities of AKM for English teachers and 2) the challenges of AKM for English teachers. Survey research with descriptive qualitative approach is used on this study. As instruments, online questionnaire and interview is utilized. The findings show that there are four opportunities; 1) English teachers tend to be happier, 2) English teachers are freer to implement certain teaching method, 3) English teachers could focus more on the use of English, not on test completion, and 4) English teachers could give more attention for students’ literacy. In addition, there are five challenges; 1) socialization about AKM is not yet done comprehensively, 2) most of students have less reading motivation, 3) it’s quite hard to connect English with numeration aspect, 4) teachers are having less experience in creating HOTS questions, 5) less skilful teacher in using technology.

ANALYSIS OF TEST INSTRUMENTS BASED ON HOTS CRITICAL THINKING ON PHYSICS IN THE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Although learning has been implemented online because of the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic, it is hoped that it does not eliminate the essence of the implementation of the revised K-13 curriculum, namely the scientific approach to learning process. The implementation of the scientific approach will structure the mind set of students to criticize a problem in their everyday life. This is what is required in the implementation of the revised K-13 curriculum, where critical thinking is a high-level thinking ability that students must familiarize with. HOTS questions are a measurement instrument used to measure higher order thinking skills, namely thinking skills that do not just remember, restate, or refer without processing. The purpose of this study is to: 1) determine the HOTS-based test instrument for high school critical thinking that has been used in the learning process and learning evaluation. 2). Know the level of difficulty and difference in power of the instrument and the effectiveness of the answer keys for high school tests. This research is a descriptive research with qualitative and quantitative approaches to documentation study. The findings in the study indicate that the test instruments used at the high school level have not met the criteria for HOTS high-level thinking. As for the results of the calculation of the difficulty level of the test, 8% of the questions were in the easy category, 46% in the medium category and 46% in the difficult category. For the difference in power category, 42% of the questions were in the bad category, 33% were in the enough category, while 4% were in the good category and 21% of the questions were in the very good category. The limitation of this research is the HOTS category of critical thinking test instruments..

PENGEMBANGAN INSTRUMEN SOAL HIGH ORDER THINKING SKILLS PADA PEMBELAJARAN TEMATIK KELAS V SEKOLAH DASAR

AbstractThis development research was carried out to produce a produc in the form of a question instrument based on high order thinking skills in class V theme 3 subtheme 1. The research method used is research and development (R&D) adaptation of research development by Borg & Gall which includes the following steps: research and information collection, planning, early product development, initial field trials, major product revisions, field trials, and operational product revisions. The data sources of this research were 54 students of Muhammadiyah 2 Elementary School. The data collection instruments in this study consisted of interviews, questionnaires, and tests in the form of HOTS questions. The data analysis technique used in this research is item analysis. The results of the study indicate that the HOTS-based question instrument consists of 20 multiple-choice questions from the material, construction, and language aspects, which are valid and worthy of testing. The instrument consisting of 20 items has a validity level of 0.5097 (valid), the degree of reliability is 0.893 (high). Based on the level of difficulty and distinguishing power of the 20 items, there are 19 items that match the characteristics of HOTS.Keywords: Development, Instrument, High Order Thinking Skills.

Pembelajaran Berkarakteristik Inovatif Abad 21 Pada Materi Bumi Dan Antariksa Dengan Model Pembelajaran Project Based Learning Di Smk Negeri 1 Adiwerna

Students are already active in learning, but many forget the material that has been given. When giving opinions, they are less motivated to learn. 21st century skills are still very low, this can be seen when face-to-face learning is limited. The reason is that many students cannot absorb subjects well, the limitations of learning are carried out remotely. This article aims to describe the improvement of 21st century skills due to the implementation of project-based learning. This article is an explanation based on real events in learning. The research subjects were all students of class X SMK Negeri 1 Adiwerna, totaling 36 people. Student learning outcomes on average 82% where this value already meets the criteria of classical completeness, motivation increases from every face-to-face meeting. Students are able to express opinions, collaborate in concluding the results of discussions, increase critical thinking power as evidenced by the HOTS questions given by the teacher that can be answered properly.

Kolb's learning style analysis in solving HOTS questions for prospective physics teacher students

This study aims to analyze Kolb's Learning Style (KLS) in solving HOTS questions for prospective physics teacher students. This research is a descriptive study using a qualitative approach. The subjects of this research are second semester students who have joined the Basic Physics course for Archimedes' Principle, amounting to 46 people. The instrument used was a Kolb's Learning Style (KLS) questionnaire, which consisted of 40 statement items, 8 essay questions about HOTS, and interview guidelines. Based on the results of the study, it showed that from the maximum percentage (100%) in each Kolb's Learning Style (KLS) obtained the combination of diverger and assimilator learning styles as the highest average percentage (65.63%) in solving HOTS questions correctly compared to the other learning styles. It is followed by the accomodator (56.25%), the combination of assimilator and converger (54.17%), diverger (53.41%), assimilator (49.22%), and converger (48.61%). There are differences in Kolb's Learning Style (KLS) in solving HOTS questions for prospective physics teacher students where students still experience errors in answering questions. The forms of incorrect answers given by students include: 1) Objects with a smaller surface area must be sink, 2) Heavy objects must be sink, 3) The amount of water affects the state of floating and sinking, 4) Hollow objects always float, and 5) Objects made of something hard must be sink. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the ability of prospective physics teacher students in solving HOTS questions must be trained by adjusting their learning styles.

Pelatihan Pengembangan Soal HOTS dengan Memanfaatkan Quizizz untuk Guru Sekolah Dasar Pedesaan

The Covid-19 pandemic condition triggered teachers to adjust their attitudes to existing conditions. Learning in the network (online) must be chosen so that the teaching process can still be carried out. However, teachers were not used to compiling HOTS evaluations online using the Quzizizz application. This community service program aimed to provide assistance in preparing HOTS questions using the Quizizz application. The training was carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic online for elementary school teachers in the Tiris District, Problinggo Regency. The results show that in general teachers are said to be able to conduct online evaluations by utilizing the Quizizz application. All teachers were present in all training meetings, teachers were also able to create Quiziz Accounts. HOTS questions on Quizizz were also able to be made by the majority of teachers so that they can activate students' higher-order thinking skills. All teachers tried out the HOTS questions that had been made to their respective students. This training has a significant impact on the ability of teachers to develop HOTS-type online evaluation questions using the Quizizz application.

JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ CREATIVITY IN SOLVING HOTS QUESTIONS BASED ON LEARNING CONCENTRATION

Creativity is a product of someone's creative thinking. HOTS questions are questions that are used to measure students' higher order thinking skills. Learning concentration is a process of focusing the mind on learning to the exclusion of other things outside of learning. This study aims to analyze the creativity of junior high school students in solving mathematics HOTS questions based on learning concentration. This type of research includes qualitative descriptive research, with 6 research subjects as representatives of the very high, high, and moderate learning concentration groups. The instruments used in this study were a learning concentration questionnaire, mathematics HOTS questions, and interview guidelines. The data from the learning concentration questionnaire were analyzed using a Likert Scale, the data from the creative thinking ability test were analyzed based on the components of creative thinking. The data from the test and interviews were analyzed using the method of Miles, Huberman, and Sadana. The results showed that students with very high levels of learning concentration were classified as very creative, not all students with high levels of learning concentration could achieve the components of fluency and flexibility. Meanwhile, students with moderate levels of learning concentration were classified as less creative.

Defragmenting Student’s Thinking Structures in Solving Mathematical Problems on PISA Model

Problem solving is defined as a series of activities that allow students to find solutions to problems. Students' thinking processes occur when processing data or information to solve problems. One way to help students maximize the thinking skills is to make their experience when solving problems with PISA model. But in reality, Students made many mistakes and have difficulty understanding the problem, making a settlement plan, lack knowledge of the prerequisite material, and have not been able to describe the reasons in detail regarding the solutions found. One of the possible solutions to improve and complete the structure of students' thinking in solving mathematical problems on the PISA model HOTS questions is defragmenting. This study aims to describe the changes of students' thinkingstructure in solving mathematical problems through defragmenting. This type of research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The research data consisted of students' answers, the results of thinking aloud, and the results of semi-structured interviews. The results showed that students experienced assimilation at the stage of understanding the problem, while at the stage of formulating strategies, implementing plans, and re-examining students' thinking processes, they experienced accommodation. This is because students need defragmenting to connect mathematical concepts to solve problems, correct errors, and complete incomplete problem solving steps.

Student errors in solving HOTS based-match story problems with Newman's theory

Students' ability for HOTS is critical to acquire. However, the PISA survey in 2018 showed that Indonesian participants were at level 1, and the national exam in 2018 indicated that 40% of students had an issue answering HOTS questions. The problem suggests that students solve questions requiring higher-order thinking skills, causing errors. Therefore, the study aimed to analyze student errors based on Newman's Theory in solving HOTS-based math story problems. The method applied for qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Data collection involved 126 grade IX students using HOTS-based math story tests, interviews, and documentation. Students were grouped into three categories from the HOTS-based math story test results: students with good, medium, and low abilities. This step was to find the average and standard deviation of the scores obtained by respondents when completing the given test. Then three students were selected from each category as subjects. The results showed that as many as 50% of students misunderstood the questions, 20% made transformation errors, and 10% errors in reading, processing skills, and encoding. The high error rate of these students shows the poor ability of students to solve HOTS-based math story problems.

Analisis Kesalahan Siswa dalam Menyelesaikan Soal Matematika Bertipe Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) Berdasarkan Prosedur Newman

The weak ability of students in developing their reasoning power in solving mathematical problems, especially on HOTS questions causes students to have difficulty and experience many errors when solving them. The purpose of this study is to describe the errors made by students in solving HOTS-type math problems based on the Newman procedure. Subject taken from class IIB KMI and II C KMI Pondok Modern Daarul Abroor Banyuasin a total of 6 peopels who were selected besed on the results of the analysis of the previous semester to determine the initial abilitylevel using purposive Sampling Metod. Data collection techniques in the from of test question, interviews and documentation. Test the validity of the data using triangulation techniques. The data analysis technique used the Miles and Hubermen model in the from of (1) Analysis of students” previous semester scres, (2) Anaysis of stdent error in soving HOTS questions besed on the Newman procedur. The results of data analysis besed on the Newman procedure obtained were 0% reading errors, 29.2% problem understanding errors, 37.5% trnsformation errors, 74.2% process skills errors, 61% conclusion errors. The results of the intervew analysis showed that the factors causing studen errors were lack of interest in learning, students’ inaccurcy, lack of skills in solving HOTS questions, not nderstanding in operating calculations and not understanding concepts.

Content Analysis of English Textbook for 11th Grade of Senior High School on HOTS Criteria

The newest curriculum or well known as national curriculum has four goals in education of Indonesia. One of them is Higher Order Thinking Skills which means the output of teaching and learning process is required to have higher level of thinking. Thus, the Ministry of Education provides textbook for all level of schools; one of them is for Senior High School. This research aimed to investigate if HOTS is accommodated in English textbook provided by the Ministry of Education; focuses on the content of the textbook, in terms of questions and instructions provided and in relation to HOTS criteria which covers C4 (analyze), C5 (evaluate), and C6 (create). This research applied a qualitative method and used documentation and interview as the instruments. There are four respondents consisting of three English teachers from different schools, and one evaluation expert. The finding shows that HOTS have already been accommodated in English textbook. There are 116 of 211 HOTS questions with frequency 55%, 74 of 252 HOTS instructions with frequency 30%, and factual knowledge as the most dominant knowledge dimension in questions which have 90 of 211 with frequency 43%, and conceptual knowledge as the most dominant knowledge dimension in instructions which have 81 of 252 with frequency 32%. All questions and instructions provided are more about recalling information, guidelines or studies of concepts, describing a factual information and explaining the answer.

The culture of numeric literacy with HOTS problems in mathematics learning

The purpose of this study is to describe the cultivation of numerical literacy with HOTS questions in mathematics learning. This research is a qualitative research conducted with the following stages: (1) identifying the problems that arise in the cultivation of numerical literacy, (2) determining the focus of the problems that arise in the cultivation of numerical literacy, (3) determining the subjects in the research, (4) collecting the required data, (5) analyze the research data, and (6) draw conclusions. The subjects in this study were teachers and 27 students of 4th grader in SDS PKMI Ephesus Aek Batu. Methods of data collection by interview, observation and documentation. The data analysis technique was carried out by qualitative analysis using an interactive flow model. The results of the research obtained are the cultivation of numerical literacy with HOTS questions in mathematics learning carried out in online learning activities, offline and home visits.

Development of E-Module Based on HOTS Questions on Distance Material for High School Students

This research aimed to develop a valid and practical electronic module that potentially affected the HOTS of grade 12 students during distance learning in Xaverius 1 High School, Palembang. This study employed the Alessi Trollip model orienting towards multimedia products consisting of three stages: planning, designing, and developing. The data collection techniques were validation sheet instruments, questionnaires, and tests. Meanwhile, the data analysis method were validation sheets and questionnaires through average scores and comments and test sheets through student work. The success criteria of this research were to obtain valid and practical geometry distance teaching materials with HOTS by considering experts’ and clients’ reviews. The expert validity revealed a score of 4.72 and was considered very valid. The questions’ score was 55.5% and was revised. Meanwhile, the questionnaire was categorized practical with a score of 79.3. The e-module potentially influenced HOTS exercises with an average score of 83.5 or very good. This research concludes that the developed e-module has valid and practical characteristics and can influence the HOTS thinking abilities to create and analyze. Thus, the module significantly supports the needs of teaching materials and increases the students’ HOTS.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENT WORKSHEET BASED ON HIGHER ORDER THINKING SKILLS IN IMPROVING MATHEMATICS LEARNING OUTCOMES

The use of instruction tools that only explains the instruction material, but does not know the extent to which students' understanding causes the instruction process to be less than optimal. This study aims to find out the development process, feasibility, and the influence of using student worksheet based on higher order thinking skills in improving Mathematics learning outcomes at MIN 3 Tulungagung and SDI Qurrota A'yun Ngunut Tulungagung. This study uses the development research model of Borg, and Gall. The results show that: (1) The development of HOTS-based worksheets begins with preparing instruction materials in accordance with the Core Competencies and Basic Competencies listed in the 2013 Curriculum.Furthermore, the researcher makes examples of HOTS questions that are in accordance with the material that has been presented, making questions individual and group practice questions and then make competency test questions at the end of the chapter. (2) The worksheets based on HOTS are suitable for use in improving Mathematics learning outcomes. This can be seen from the results of due diligence by media and material experts. (3) There is an influence of using HOTS-based worksheets as indicated by the significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental class that does instruction using HOTS-based worksheets and the control class that does instruction without HOTS-based worksheets. This is based on the data from the t-test results in which sig-2 0.040 <0.050 is obtained.

ANALYSIS OF HOTS INDICATOR ON SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS PHYSICS EXAM QUESTION IN WETS PASAMAN DISTRICT

Education is a fundamental foundation for human life. In every educational development, there is always a change in the curriculum. The 2013 curriculum requires HOTS-based learning. In the 2013 curriculum, students must practice thinking skills at the HOTS level by giving HOTS questions. Because, the teacher must provide students with HOTS questions. The observations show that the questions used in Senior High Schools throughout West Pasaman District are still in the low category and do not meet the excellent proportion of questions. Therefore, an indicator analysis research was carried out on Physics questions for SMAN in West Pasaman District. This research includes descriptive research is includes in the qualitative approach. With population of this research is about Midterm Exam and Semester Exam Senior High Schools in 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 in semesters 1 and 2 in West Pasaman District. The research data was taken using an analytical instrument of question presentation and data collection with proof of questions. From the research has been done, it was found that the questions that have the highest availability of HOTS indicators for Semester Exam between 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 are in class XI and XII Semester Exam in 2018/2019 while in class X, namely in 2019/2020. As for the Midterm Exam in using the HOTS questions, the highest is Senior High School 1 Pasaman, and the lowest is Senior High School 1 Gunung Tuleh. Based on the research that has been done, it is found that these questions do not meet the availability of HOTS questions.

Upaya peningkatan kompetensi guru dalam membuat soal hots melalui kegiatan iht (in house trainning) di sd negeri wonowoso tahun pelajaran 2019/2020

<p class="Abstract"><strong>Abstract</strong>.</p><p class="Abstract"><em>The objectives of this School Action Research are to: (1) increase teacher competence in making HOTS questions, (2) increase teacher involvement in joint activities through In House Training (IHT) (3) increase the insight and knowledge of Wonowoso Elementary School teachers in terms of understanding of the concept of HOTS questions.</em> <em>This research was conducted based on the fact that some of the teachers of SD Negeri Wonowoso Korwil II Surakarta City Education Office did not understand about the standard of assessment, especially in the preparation of HOTS questions.</em> <em>The form of this research is in the form of school action research using a cycle model. Each cycle used has several stages, namely the planning stage (planning), the implementation stage (acting), the observation stage (observation), and the reflection analysis stage (reflecting). As the population of this research, there are 9 teachers of SD Negeri Wonowoso. Data collection techniques of data variables through observation, documentation, interviews.</em> <em>Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there has been an increase in the performance of SD Negeri Wonowoso teachers in preparing HOTS questions after carrying out In House Training (IHT) activities.</em></p><p class="Abstract"><strong><em>Keywords:</em></strong> <em>Teacher Performance ,HOTS, In House Training (IHT)</em> </p>

Chinese Undergraduates’ Performance in HOTS and LOTS EFL Reading Comprehension for Different Reading Materials According to Gender

Many studies indicate that Chinese undergraduates face problems in their HOTS comprehension. The objective of this study is to investigate Chinese EFL undergraduates’ HOST and LOTS reading comprehension according to gender. A descriptive research design was employed in this quantitative study. The researchers used an English reading comprehension test involving 5 different materials (education, economy, entertainment, technology and natural disaster) as the research instrument. Each material consists of 3 LOTS questions and 2 HOTS questions. All the comprehension questions were multiple choice in nature. The sample of the study consists of 411 second year undergraduate students (261 females and 150 males) from a university in Hunan Province, China. SPSS Program for Windows version 25 was used to analyze the data (Independent samples t-test). The findings of this current study indicated that the female students performed significantly better than their male counterparts for both LOTS and HOTS comprehension questions. The female students also outperformed their male students in their overall score for comprehension. As such, these results clearly revealed that female undergraduates performed significantly better than the males in their EFL reading comprehension skills. However, this research only involves participants from one university; as a result, future research should include a larger sample from different provinces in China to get a better insight of students’ performance in EFL comprehension.
