In this article, the effect of WC (Tungsten carbide) content on the macroscopic as well as microscopic temperature evolution patterns of nickel-based coatings was analyzed from the particle scale using the multi-particle finite element (MPFEM) method. The results show that the coating temperature decreases gradually in the radial direction and increases and then decreases in the axial direction for different WC contents. When the heat transfer time is ≤ 1 ms, the lower the content of WC particles in the coating and when arranged in structure B (random loose-packed) helps to improve the high temperature resistance of the coating, and when the heat transfer time is > 1 ms, the higher the content of WC particles in the coating and when arranged in structure A (random close-packed), it helps to improve the high temperature resistance of the coating.
