Increase in Community Interest in Making Aloe Vera-Based Hand Sanitizer

The general background hand hygiene is crucial in preventing the spread of diseases, as hands are the primary pathway for microorganisms to enter the body. Specific background although alcohol-based hand sanitizers are widely used, they can cause skin dryness, prompting the need for alternatives made from natural ingredients. Aloe vera is a readily available plant with moisturizing properties that can serve as an alternative ingredient. Knowledge gap however, community knowledge regarding the production of aloe vera-based hand sanitizers remains limited. Aims this community service project aimed to educate participants on the process of making natural hand sanitizers using aloe vera through workshops and demonstrations. Results after the training, 60% of participants expressed interest in making their own hand sanitizers, citing easy access to materials, productive use of free time, and business opportunities as their motivations. Novelty the use of aloe vera as a base for hand sanitizer offers a skin-friendly and sustainable alternative to alcohol-based products. Implications this program not only raised awareness about hand hygiene but also empowered the community by introducing a simple, cost-effective method to create hand sanitizers, potentially opening new avenues for small-scale businesses. Development and Production of a Children's Upper-Limb Cycling Adapter Using 3D Printing.

The research described in this study focuses on the development of an innovative upper-limb adapter for young children aged 1-3 years who have congenital upper-limb defects. The objective was to create a functional and affordable solution that allows children to engage more safely and actively in physical activities such as cycling. The adapter was designed within the DESIGN+ project at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen in collaboration with the German company Ottobock. The development included a detailed analysis of hand movements during cycling, modelling using CAD software (NX 1888), prototype manufacturing through 3D printing, and subsequent testing. The result is an adapter that allows 360° rotation around the arm axis, provides natural hand movement while turning, and is made of soft material to enhance safety. Despite initial challenges and necessary prototype adjustments, a functional and reliable design was achieved. This adapter will contribute to improving the quality of life for children with upper-limb disabilities, supporting their coordination, strength, and confidence in daily activities.

Natural Hand Sanitizers: A Systematic Review on the Effectiveness and Antimicrobial Potential Against Pathogens

Background: Microbes are mostly transferred through the hands and the nosocomial infections are extremely common. To combat the harmful effects of microbial burden in health care facilities, hand sanitizers are recommended for hand disinfection. Objective: The goal of this research is to conduct a systematic review of studies on the effectiveness of natural hand sanitizers. Methods: Under the PRISMA criteria, a systematic search was carried out (Recommended Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses) three databases were used to conduct the search: PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct. Published from 2002 to 2024. The Key words for the survey were ‘Natural hand sanitizers, Hand hygiene, Disinfectant, Antibacterial activity. Following the finding of relevant papers, a critical appraisal was carried out in order to select those that would be appropriate for the systematic review. The study's inclusion criteria were surveys, clinical studies, no sample size limits, and only English literature. Result: The keywords led to the discovery of 65 relevant publications, 14 of which were suitable for the systematic review. Hand sanitizers of several kinds were investigated. It's used to stop the spread of infection and sickness. Conclusion: In this systematic review, it was concluded that the efficacy and the broad spectrum of natural hand sanitizers were significantly efficient which is important to boost the formulation's effectiveness as well as safety.

A visual representation of the hand in the resting somatomotor regions of the human brain

Hand visibility affects motor control, perception, and attention, as visual information is integrated into an internal model of somatomotor control. Spontaneous brain activity, i.e., at rest, in the absence of an active task, is correlated among somatomotor regions that are jointly activated during motor tasks. Recent studies suggest that spontaneous activity patterns not only replay task activation patterns but also maintain a model of the body's and environment's statistical regularities (priors), which may be used to predict upcoming behavior. Here, we test whether spontaneous activity in the human somatomotor cortex as measured using fMRI is modulated by visual stimuli that display hands vs. non-hand stimuli and by the use/action they represent. A multivariate pattern analysis was performed to examine the similarity between spontaneous activity patterns and task-evoked patterns to the presentation of natural hands, robot hands, gloves, or control stimuli (food). In the left somatomotor cortex, we observed a stronger (multivoxel) spatial correlation between resting state activity and natural hand picture patterns compared to other stimuli. Inovasi Bersih: Pelatihan Pembuatan Sabun Cuci Tangan Ekstrak Sereh Wangi (Citronella) Bersama Karang Taruna IKRIMA Gondangrejo Karanganyar

Karang Taruna (IKRIMA) plays an active role in increasing productivity by participating in a training program for making natural antiseptic hand washing soap made from citronella. The choice of citronella as the main ingredient is based on its high economic value and natural properties. Additionally, citronella can inhibit the growth of bacteria, viruses, and fungi, making it an ideal choice for hand hygiene products. IKRIMA members have taken part in a series of comprehensive training regarding the manufacture of antiseptic hand washing soap. This activity includes product manufacturing and packaging practices. IKRIMA can produce hand washing soap that meets the desired quality standards, both in terms of antiseptic effectiveness as well as safety and comfort for users. Making antiseptic hand washing soap is one of the positive activities that encourages IKRIMA members to continue learning and developing. Apart from improving skills and knowledge, this activity also provides economic benefits for them and the surrounding community through the sale of the products produced.

Stretchable glove for accurate and robust hand pose reconstruction based on comprehensive motion data

We propose a compact wearable glove capable of estimating both the finger bone lengths and the joint angles of the wearer with a simple stretch-based sensing mechanism. The soft sensing glove is designed to easily stretch and to be one-size-fits-all, both measuring the size of the hand and estimating the finger joint motions of the thumb, index, and middle fingers. The system was calibrated and evaluated using comprehensive hand motion data that reflect the extensive range of natural human hand motions and various anatomical structures. The data were collected with a custom motion-capture setup and transformed into the joint angles through our post-processing method. The glove system is capable of reconstructing arbitrary and even unconventional hand poses with accuracy and robustness, confirmed by evaluations on the estimation of bone lengths (mean error: 2.1 mm), joint angles (mean error: 4.16°), and fingertip positions (mean 3D error: 4.02 mm), and on overall hand pose reconstructions in various applications. The proposed glove allows us to take advantage of the dexterity of the human hand with potential applications, including but not limited to teleoperation of anthropomorphic robot hands or surgical robots, virtual and augmented reality, and collection of human motion data.

This paper proposes AR stone tower content, an experiential content based on wearable augmented reality (AR). Although wearable augmented reality is gaining attention, the acceptance of the technology is still focused on specialized applications such as industrial sites. On the other hand, the proposed AR stone tower content is based on the material of 'stone tower' so that general users can relate to it and easily participate in it, and it is organized to utilize space in a moving environment and find and stack stones based on natural hand gestures. The proposed AR stone tower content was implemented in the HoloLens 2 environment and evaluated by general users through a pilot exhibition in a small art museum. The evaluation results showed that the overall satisfaction with the content averaged 3.85, and the content appropriateness for the stone tower material was very high at 4.15. In particular, users were highly satisfied with content comprehension and sound, but somewhat less satisfied with object recognition, body adaptation, and object control. The above user evaluations confirm the resonance and positive response to the material, but also highlight the difficulties of the average user in experiencing and interacting with the wearable AR environment.

Nature's hand in megacity cluster progress: Integrating SDG11 with ecosystem service dynamics

The harmonious integration of urban development and ecosystem services (ESs) is crucial for advancing sustainable urban agglomerations. This study unveils an innovative framework that synergizes SDGs with ESs, spotlighting the Yangtze River Delta Megacity Cluster (YRDMC) as a focal area. We first evaluated the SDG11 levels of 26 cities within the YRDMC, categorizing them into four distinct SDG11 development patterns based on their changing trends. We quantified six essential ESs for each city, analyzing how urban land use changes impact these ESs. Subsequently, we employed the SWOT analysis matrix, to devise nature-based urban planning strategies tailored to each city. Our findings indicate that only 3 cities exhibited a continuous rise in SDG11 scores, whereas 17 cities showed an initial increase followed by a decrease in their SDG11 scores. On average, water yield in the YRDMC increased by 4.8 %, while carbon storage and habitat quality declined by 2.25 % and 4.17 %, respectively. Major land use shifts involved reductions in forests and cropland, with most cities facing challenges in providing sufficient ESs. The study equips planners, developers, and consultants with insights for greener, more resilient urban spaces, aligning development with sustainability goals and enhancing the appeal of sustainable initiatives.

MAKING HAND SANITIZER FROM NATURAL MATERIALS AN EFFORT TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 IN TEGALWANGI VILLAGE

The purpose of this PKM activity is to train in making natural hand sanitizers to overcome scarcity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Partners in high school students in Tegal Wangi Village, Cirebon Regency. The method of transferring knowledge and technology with the stages of activities: 1) material briefing, 2) manufacturing practices, and 3) evaluation. The results of this activity are 1) students can understand well the technique of making hand-sanitizers with natural ingredients, this can be seen from the indicator of increasing ability to reach 80%, 2) the skills to make natural hand-sanitizers from natural ingredients, and 3) the availability of natural hand-sanitizer products in the high school environment Tegal Wangi Village, Cirebon Regency. Hand sanitizer-making training activities need to be carried out regularly by utilizing available natural ingredients.

ABSTRACT The Swiss natural philosopher, physician, and radical reformer Theophrastus of Hohenheim (1493–1541), known as Paracelsus, endeavoured to reconcile his various perspectives in his extensive biblical exegeses. Symbolizing this effort were the two lights of nature and the Holy Spirit, which, on one hand, explored worldly and mortal aspects of nature and, on the other hand, led to eternal life. In response to the prevailing dispute between Luther and Zwingli over the interpretation of the Eucharist, Paracelsus developed his own viewpoint, introducing the concept of the new human with a renewed corporeal body. His comprehensive interpretations of the Gospel of Matthew not only addressed theology but also engaged with the perspectives of a natural philosopher, physician, and advocate of natural magic.

TESTING THE ACTIVITY AND FORMULATION OF NATURAL HAND SOAP BASED ON NATURAL SURFACTANTS OF LERAK FRUIT (Sapindus rarak DC.) AGAINST Staphylococcus aureus

Lerak (Sapindus rarak DC.) is a fruit belonging to the Sapindaceae family that usually grows in tropical forests. Lerak fruit flesh contains the main active compound, saponin. Saponin is a natural surfactant with foaming and emulsifying properties. The use of synthetic surfactants in the manufacture of hand soap sold on the market can have negative impacts, such as irritation and denaturation of proteins in the outer epidermis layer in humans if exposed too often. This study aimed to determine whether lerak can be formulated into natural hand soap as a natural surfactant and determine its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Lerak fruit solutions were prepared using a maceration method. The resulting solution was then formulated into hand soap at concentrations of 10%, 30%, and 50%. The evaluation of the natural hand soap preparation from the lerak fruit included organoleptic evaluation, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, foam height, and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria using the disc diffusion method. Based on the research results, Lerak Fruit (Sapindus rarak DC.) can be formulated as a natural surfactant in hand soap at concentrations of 0%, 10%, 30%, and 50%. Role of arm reaching movement kinematics in friction perception at initial contact with smooth surfaces.

When manipulating objects, humans begin adjusting their grip force to friction within 100ms of contact. During motor adaptation, subjects become aware of the slipperiness of touched surfaces. Previously, we have demonstrated that humans cannot perceive frictional differences when surfaces are brought in contact with an immobilised finger, but can do so when there is submillimeter lateral displacement or subjects actively make the contact movement. Similarly, in, we investigated how humans perceive friction in the absence of intentional exploratory sliding or rubbing movements, to mimic object manipulation interactions. We used a two-alternative forced-choice paradigm in which subjects had to reach and touch one surface followed by another, and then indicate which felt more slippery. Subjects correctly identified the more slippery surface in 87±8% of cases (mean±SD; n=12). Biomechanical analysis of finger pad skin displacement patterns revealed the presence of tiny (<1mm) localised slips, known to be sufficient to perceive frictional differences. We tested whether these skin movements arise as a result of natural hand reaching kinematics. The task was repeated with the introduction of a hand support, eliminating the hand reaching movement and minimising fingertip movement deviations from a straight path. As a result, our subjects' performance significantly declined (66±12% correct, mean±SD; n=12), suggesting that unrestricted reaching movement kinematics and factors such as physiological tremor, play a crucial role in enhancing or enabling friction perception upon initial contact. KEY POINTS: More slippery objects require a stronger grip to prevent them from slipping out of hands. Grip force adjustments to friction driven by tactile sensory signals are largely automatic and do not necessitate cognitive involvement; nevertheless, some associated awareness of grip surface slipperiness under such sensory conditions is present and helps to select a safe and appropriate movement plan. When gripping an object, tactile receptors provide frictional information without intentional rubbing or sliding fingers over the surface. However, we have discovered that submillimeter range lateral displacement might be required to enhance or enable friction sensing. The present study provides evidence that such small lateral movements causing localised partial slips arise and are an inherent part of natural reaching movement kinematics.

DexFuncGrasp: A Robotic Dexterous Functional Grasp Dataset Constructed from a Cost-Effective Real-Simulation Annotation System

Robot grasp dataset is the basis of designing the robot's grasp generation model. Compared with the building grasp dataset for Low-DOF grippers, it is harder for High-DOF dexterous robot hand. Most current datasets meet the needs of generating stable grasps, but they are not suitable for dexterous hands to complete human-like functional grasp, such as grasp the handle of a cup or pressing the button of a flashlight, so as to enable robots to complete subsequent functional manipulation action autonomously, and there is no dataset with functional grasp pose annotations at present. This paper develops a unique Cost-Effective Real-Simulation Annotation System by leveraging natural hand's actions. The system is able to capture a functional grasp of a dexterous hand in a simulated environment assisted by human demonstration in real world. By using this system, dexterous grasp data can be collected efficiently as well as cost-effective. Finally, we construct the first dexterous functional grasp dataset with rich pose annotations. A Functional Grasp Synthesis Model is also provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed system and dataset. Our project page is: https://hjlllll.github.io/DFG/.

Measuring and monitoring skill learning in closed-loop myoelectric hand prostheses using speed-accuracy tradeoffs

Objective. Closed-loop myoelectric prostheses, which combine supplementary sensory feedback and electromyography (EMG) based control, hold the potential to narrow the divide between natural and bionic hands. The use of these devices, however, requires dedicated training. Therefore, it is crucial to develop methods that quantify how users acquire skilled control over their prostheses to effectively monitor skill progression and inform the development of interfaces that optimize this process. Approach. Building on theories of skill learning in human motor control, we measured speed-accuracy tradeoff functions (SAFs) to comprehensively characterize learning-induced changes in skill—as opposed to merely tracking changes in task success across training—facilitated by a closed-loop interface that combined proportional control and EMG feedback. Sixteen healthy participants and one individual with a transradial limb loss participated in a three-day experiment where they were instructed to perform the box-and-blocks task using a timed force-matching paradigm at four specified speeds to reach two target force levels, such that the SAF could be determined. Main results. We found that the participants’ accuracy increased in a similar way across all speeds we tested. Consequently, the shape of the SAF remained similar across days, at both force levels. Further, we observed that EMG feedback enabled participants to improve their motor execution in terms of reduced trial-by-trial variability, a hallmark of skilled behavior. We then fit a power law model of the SAF, and demonstrated how the model parameters could be used to identify and monitor changes in skill. Significance. We comprehensively characterized how an EMG feedback interface enabled skill acquisition, both at the level of task performance and movement execution. More generally, we believe that the proposed methods are effective for measuring and monitoring user skill progression in closed-loop prosthesis control.

By eliminating the need for traditional input devices, the hand gesture paint application offers a novel approach to digital art creation, empowering users to engage directly with their canvas in a more intuitive and immersive manner. Through this innovative blend of technology and creativity, the application opens up new avenues for artistic expression, inviting users to explore the boundless possibilities of digital painting through the simple movement of their hands.

Gaming using different hand gestures using artificial neural network

INTRODUCTION: Gaming has evolved over the years, and one of the exciting developments in the industry is the integration of hand gesture recognition.&#x0D; OBJECTIVES: This paper proposes gaming using different hand gestures using Artificial Neural Networks which allows players to interact with games using natural hand movements, providing a more immersive and intuitive gaming experience.&#x0D; METHODS: Introduces two modules: recognition and analysis of gestures. The gesture recognition module identifies the gestures, and the analysis module assesses them to execute game controls based on the calculated analysis.&#x0D; RESULTS: The main results obtained in this paper are enhanced accessibility, higher accuracy and improved performance.&#x0D; CONCLUSION: To communicate with any of the traditional systems, physical contact is necessary. In the hand gesture recognition system, the same functionality can be interpreted by gestures without requiring physical contact with the interfaced devices.

AI-based real-time hand gesture-controlled virtual mouse

ABSTRACT Hand gesture control technology is an emerging alternative to conventional input devices like keyboards and mice, enabling users to interact with computers through natural hand movements. Although, many researchers worked on gesture recognition and its challenges, yet wide range of gestures has not been addressed. In this direction, the author proposed a novel gesture-controlled virtual mouse system that uses hand gestures and hand tip detection with a webcam or internal camera for computer navigation that accurately recognizes various gestures, including cursor movement, left and right clicks, double clicks, scrolling, drag and drop, multiple item selection, volume control. To deal with this real-world problem, the authors proposed a solution for limited space situations and assist individuals with hand impairments who cannot use a physical mouse. Furthermore, it surpasses the limitations of traditional mice, such as mechanical wear and tear, adaptability to different environments, and restricted functionalities. By leveraging hand gestures and tip detection through a camera proposed system offers an efficient and adaptable approach to operating a PC mouse. The proposed methodology uses computer vision and AI for the accurate detection of gestures, even in challenging environments. It also offers a comprehensive set of gestures for various actions and functions.

PENDAMPINGAN PEMBUATAN HAND SANITIZER ALAMI SEBAGAI SALAH SATU UPAYA PENCEGAHAN TBC PADA MASYARAKAT PAYAMAN GIRIMULYO IMOGIRI BANTUL YOGYAKARTA

TBC cases in Indonesia continue to increase. One way to prevent transmission of TBC is to wash your hands with soap or hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizers on the market contain many antiseptics in the form of synthetic chemicals which can cause skin health problems, besides being relatively expensive. For this reason, it is necessary to develop hand sanitizers made from natural ingredients that are safe, cheap and easy to make with simple equipment and have economic value. Some natural ingredients that can be used in making natural hand sanitizers include betel leaf, lime, orange peel, aloe vera and several studies have also mentioned natural ingredients such as basil leaves, kecombrang flowers, banana fronds, aloes. These natural ingredients contain several active ingredients such as saponins, tannins, flavonoids, citric acid, polyphenols, alkaloids which function as an antiseptic capable of killing pathogenic organisms. The aim of the activity is to provide knowledge to the public about hand sanitizers and how to make hand sanitizers with natural ingredients. as well as the application of making natural hand sanitizers independently. The method used is counseling/ lectures/ material explanations accompanied by discussions and demonstrations of making hand sanitizers. The result of this community service is an increase in the participants' knowledge from 80-90% correct answers to 100% and 100% of the participants practice making natural hand sanitizers, the participants are also committed to implement and apply the manufacture of natural hand sanitizers in their respective homes using various materials from plants that are easy to get around the neighborhood such as betel, aloe vera and lime.&#x0D;

Estimation shelf life on hand sanitizer that utilizes waru leaf (Hibiscus tiliaceus) waste using the accelerated method with arrhenius model

Reprocessing organic waste such as leaves and fruit peels can produce natural hand sanitizers with novelty or useful findings. Waru leaf hand sanitizer is a new innovation that uses natural ingredients and low alcohol. Natural extracts in products are still susceptible to damage, so an estimated shelf life is needed. Estimated shelf life is related to product quality, both producers and consumers really need it. Estimating the shelf life of an item is one way to find out how long the product can be stored. By using the ASLT (Accelerated Shelf Life Testing) method with the Arrhenius model, this study aims to determine how long the waru leaf hand sanitizer gel can last. For 18 days, the waru leaf hand sanitizer was stored at storage temperatures of 30°C, 35°C, and 40°C. Direct observation of the object of research (pH, texture, aroma, color, and absorbency) was used to obtain research data. Waru leaf hand sanitizer has 108.48 days (3.17 months) shelf life at 30°C, according to the results.

Smart Glove or Sign Language and AI-Driven Wheelchair Navigation

Gesture gloves are a promising solution for individuals who struggle with both mobility and communication. These gloves' sensor technology helps with nonverbal communication as well as mobility, which is especially beneficial for people who have trouble pushing manual wheelchairs[2]. The goal of gesture gloves, a notable development in assistive technology, is to empower people with disabilities by improving mobility and enabling effective communication through natural hand and finger movements[1]. The use of AI-controlled wheelchairs and smart gloves together raises the bar for assistive technology even higher. The smart glove uses flex sensors to read finger movements and translate them into messages for people who can't effectively use sign language. The AIcontrolled wheelchair simultaneously reacts to recognized gestures, removing the need for assistance from a person and providing an unprecedented degree of independence. For people with disabilities, this gesture-based communication and wheelchair control system offers a comprehensive and game-changing solution that seamlessly integrates into their everyday lives.
