Biosynthesis, characterization, and anticoagulant properties of copper nanoparticles from red seaweed of Acanthophora sp.

In the last few decades, nanoparticles have found extensive use in a variety of biological applications. Traditional medicine widely uses Acanthophora sp., a marine macroalgae, to cure and prevent diabetes, skin disorders, and blood clotting. The present study aims to investigate whether green-synthesized copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) might work as an anticoagulant. The CuNPs were made using an environmentally friendly method that uses Acanthophora extract. We used UV-vis spectroscopy to assess the surface plasmon resonance of the material, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to analyze its form, and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy to identify the material's constituent elements. Furthermore, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) determined the functional groups of the CuNPs. The biosynthesis of CuNPs was confirmed by UV-vis spectroscopy, which showed a surface plasmon resonance peak at 570 nm. The FT-IR analysis showed that certain functional groups are involved in the formation of CuNPs. These groups include OH stretching, C=O stretching, C-H bonding, C-N bonding, and Cu vibration. SEM analysis demonstrated the morphology of CuNPs synthesized, with a size of 0.5μm, while EDS analysis confirmed their purity. The anticoagulant activity of prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) assays showed that the clotting time got longer depending on the concentration. The CuNPs synthesized from Acanthophora had strong anticoagulant effects at 100 μg/mL, further suggesting that they might be useful as a natural blood thinner. The interesting thing we observed is that the green-synthesized CuNPs made from Acanthophora extract could be used in anticoagulation therapy.

Effect of water-methanol binary solvent system in green synthesis of copper nanoparticles with tobacco leaf extract

The increasing demand for environmentally friendly nanoparticle synthesis, as a viable strategy for pollution control, has prompted an exploration of green chemistry methods. This study meticulously investigates the synthesis of copper nanoparticles utilizing tobacco leaf extract obtained through both cold and hot extraction techniques. The primary focus lies in scrutinizing the impact of various solvents employed for plant extracts and metal ion solutions on reduction dynamics and particle size. The study employs UV-Vis and phytochemical analyses to discern differences in chemical composition and efficacy, particularly between the water and methanol-water systems, despite their resemblance in UV-Vis spectra. Intriguingly, the results unveil that the choice of solvent significantly influences the particle size distribution and stability of colloidal nanoparticles. The methanol-water system, in particular, yields smaller, more uniform particles compared to other solvent systems. This research sheds light on the pivotal role of solvent selection in nanoparticle synthesis, emphasizing its profound impact on both the reduction process and the resulting particle size distribution. The findings underscore the nuanced relationship between solvent choice and the characteristics of the synthesized nanoparticles, providing valuable insights for optimizing environmentally friendly synthesis methods. Ultimately, this study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on green chemistry approaches for nanoparticle synthesis with implications for pollution control and sustainable materials production.

Effects of Salts and Other Contaminants on Ciprofloxacin Removal Efficiency of Green Synthesized Copper Nanoparticles.

Ciprofloxacin (CIP), a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic, is commonly used in aquaculture to prevent and treat bacterial infections in aquatic animals. For this reason, aquatic environments contain CIP and its derivatives, which lead to the development of drug-resistant bacteria. In the present study, copper nanoparticles were prepared using Garcinia mangostana extract (GME-CuNPs) as a reducing agent and evaluated for their CIP removal efficiency (CRE). The results demonstrate that within 20 min, GME-CuNPs at 25 mM possess a CRE of 92.02 ± 0.09% from CIP-containing aqueous media with pH 6-7. The CRE is influenced by both monovalent and divalent salts. A high salt concentration significantly reduces the CRE. Contaminants in fish wastewater can reduce the CRE, but phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, and ammonia do not affect the CRE. Our results reveal that the CRE is controlled by electrostatic attraction between the negatively charged GME-CuNPs and the cationic species of CIP. The CRE is reduced by wastewater with a pH higher than 8.0, in which the CIP molecules have a negative charge, resulting in a repulsive force due to the negative charge of GME-CuNPs. In fish wastewater with a pH lower than 7.0, GME-CuNPs show the potential to achieve a CRE above 80%. Therefore, pH adjustment to a range of 6-7 in fish wastewater before treatment is deemed imperative. It is concluded that the newly developed GME-CuNPs possess excellent activity in CIP elimination from actual fish wastewater samples. Our findings suggest that GME-CuNPs can be a promising tool to effectively eliminate antibiotics from the environment.

A sustainable approach to prepare green synthesis of copper nanoparticles of Bauhinia variegata & Saussurea lappa: Unveiling in-vitro anti-obesity applications

Nanoparticles have different shapes and sizes between the range of 1–100 nm, which show advantages for stabilizing compounds, higher carrier capacity, and lower costs. Metal nanoparticles such as copper, gold, silver, and zinc are favorable components for various applications due to their interesting properties. In the present study, nanoparticles were synthesized by reduction with flower extracts of Bauhinia variegate &Saussurea lappa that were used to stabilize the copper nanoparticles. Furthermore, the characterization of plants synthesized copper nanoparticles was carried out through UV–visible dynamic light scattering. Additionally, morphological characterization of nanoparticles was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy confirmed the elemental composition of copper nanoparticles. Powder X-ray diffraction was conducted for the analysis of crystallinity, purity, and crystal size of plant-synthesized copper nanoparticles. The average particle size was evaluated and exhibited the particle size at the peak of 8.721 nm and 98.03 nm for flower extracts of Bauhinia variegate &Saussurea lappa copper nanoparticles. The Fourier Transform Infrared spectrum was taken to scrutinize the various functional groups that were responsible for the reduction of the copper ions. The antimicrobial results against the bacterial strains with the positive test results of the zone of inhibition were for Bauhinia variegate (17 mm, 18 mm, 19 mm, and 18 mm) and Saussurea lappa (17 mm, 19 mm, 18 mm, and 18 mm) respectively for plants synthesized copper nanoparticles against the Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Lipase inhibition assay and Amylase inhibition assay with different concentrations (20 μg/mL to 100 μg/mL) for Bauhinia variegate &Saussurea lappa (12.34 %–59.67 % and 10.50 %–47.01 %) and (34.52 %–89.02 % and 22.34 %–56.45 %) confirmed the anti-obesity and anti-diabetic activities of plants extract synthesized copper nanoparticles.

Green synthesis of copper nanoparticles by using pineapple peel waste: in vitro characterizations and antibacterial potential.

A considerable amount of fruit waste is being produced every day worldwide. The green synthesis of metal nanoparticles from fruit peel waste can be an innovative, cost-effective, and eco-friendly alternative to traditional methods. Copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) were synthesized by a green method using the pineapple peels extract (PLX) and copper sulfate pentahydrate. The formation of CuNPs was visually identified and detected by UV-Visible spectroscopy. The CuNPs were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, particle size analyzer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The antioxidant and reducing power of CuNPs were conducted by %DPPH scavenging and electron transfer-based ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay, respectively. The antibacterial properties of CuNPs were determined in gram-positive, and gram-negative bacteria. The results showed that the CuNPs were spherical in shape with mean particle size 290.5nm. The zeta potential of the nanoparticles was found to be -12.3mV indicating the instability in the colloidal state. The FTIR study confirmed the peaks of phytochemicals present in the PLX and the nanoparticles supporting the use of pineapple peels as stabilizing, reducing and capping agents. Both the DPPH and reducing power assay depicted that the synthesized CuNPs had significant antioxidant activity. However, the synthesized CuNPs had strong inhibitory capacity against both gram-positive and gram-negative test organisms. Thus, the CuNPS could be used for its viable antibacterial potential to preserve fruits, flowers, and vegetables from bacterial contamination.

Biosynthesis of copper nanoparticles using Alstonia scholaris leaves and its antimicrobial studies

The utilization of plants for the production of metallic nanoparticles is gaining significant attention in research. In this study, we conducted phytochemical screening of Alstonia scholaris (A. scholaris) leaves extracts using various solvents, including chloroform, ethyl acetate, n-hexane, methanol, and water. Our findings revealed higher proportions of flavonoids and alkaloids in both solvents compared to other phytochemical species. In the methanol, extract proteins, anthraquinone and reducing sugar were not detected. On the other hand, the aqueous extract demonstrated the presence of amino acids, reducing sugar, phenolic compounds, anthraquinone, and saponins. Notably, ethyl acetate and chloroform extracts displayed the highest levels of bioactive compounds among all solvents. Intrigued by these results, we proceeded to investigate the antibacterial properties of the leaf extracts against two major bacterial strains, Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). All extracts exhibited significant zones of inhibition against both bacterial isolates, with S. aureus showing higher susceptibility compared to E. coli. Notably, the methanol extract displayed the most potent I hibitory effect against all organisms. Inspired by the bioactivity of the methanol extract, we employed it as a plant-based material for the green synthesis of copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPs). The synthesized Cu-NPs were characterized using Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV–visible spectroscopic analysis, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The observed color changes confirmed the successful formation of Cu-NPs, while the FTIR analysis matched previously reported peaks, further verifying the synthesis. The SEM micrographs indicated the irregular shapes of the surface particles. From the result obtained by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopic analysis, Cu has the highest relative abundance of 67.41 wt%. Confirming the purity of the Cu-NPs colloid. These findings contribute to the growing field of eco-friendly nanotechnology and emphasize the significance of plant-mediated approaches in nanomaterial synthesis and biomedical applications.

Green Synthesis of Copper Nanoparticles using Foeniculum Vulgare Seed Extract and Evaluation of their Biological Activities

Abstract: Copper nanoparticles are gaining popularity due to their multifarious properties and use in medicine, industry, and research. An extract of Foeniculum vulgare seed is used to green synthesize copper nanoparticles. The produced NPs were characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, FTIR, X-ray Diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. The absorption spectra at 570nm indicated the reduction of copper metal and the effective production of CuNPs. Its absorbance peak at 3345.3cm-1 and 1638.2cm-1 shows the existence of the N-H group and C=C stretching, as well as secondary amines (-NH-). CuNPs with a size range of 84-140nm were found to be spherical in SEM at 50kX magnification. XRD micrograph revealed a face-centered cubic structure with 19.97nm crystalline size. CuNPs showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25923, Salmonella enterica ATCC14028, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC27853, with ZOI ranging from 22 to 39mm. The results of the DPPH assay showed that CuNPs exhibit promising antioxidant properties, with an IC50 of 14.372 µg/ml. CuNPs had IC50 values of 4.341µg/ml for alpha-amylase and 3.37µg/ml for alpha-glucosidase, respectively. The IC50 of CuNPs from fennel seed extract was 4.1µg/ml, showing that CuNPs have anti-hyperlipidemic potential and can be utilized to treat hyperglycemia. This study found that green-synthesized CuNPs have numerous therapeutic applications in the medical and biotechnological domains.

Inhibitory Effects of Biosynthesized Copper Nanoparticles on Biofilm Formation of Proteus mirabilis

This study aimed to explore whether green synthesized copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) can function as an anti-biofilm agent produced by P. mirabilis. The nanoparticles were synthesized from cells free extract of P. mirabilis. Characterization of biosynthesized copper nanoparticles was carried out to determine the chemical and physical properties of the product using atomic-force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-visible spectroscopy. The hexagonal structure was confirmed by XRD, size range was marked 13-19nm by TEM. FESEM was used to confirm the surface morphology. AFM analysis was used to reveal the roughness and distribution of nanoparticles. UV–visible spectra of the synthesized nanoparticles recorded a maximum peak at 380 nm. Copper nanoparticles showed remarkable biofilm inhibitory effects on wild type strains of multidrug resistant Proteus mirabilis. After incubation for 24 and 48 hours at 37oC with 128 μg/ml sub minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of CuO nanoparticles, strong biofilm producer strains showed weak biofilm production. Down regulation changes in LuxS expression using real time PCR technology were detected after treatment with copper nanoparticles of these strains.

Green Synthesis of Copper Nanoparticles Using Sargassum spp. for Electrochemical Reduction of CO2.

This study presents a green method of producing copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) using aqueous extracts from Sargassum spp. as reducing, stabilizing, and capping agents. The CuNPs created using this algae-based method are not hazardous, they are eco-friendly, and less toxic than their chemically synthesized counterparts. The XRD characterization of the CuNPs revealed the presence of Cu and CuO, with a crystallite size ranging from 13 to 17 nm. Following this, the CuNPs were supported onto a carbon substrate, also derived from Sargassum spp. (biochar CSKPH). The CuNPs in biochar (CuNPs-CSKPH) did not appear in the XRD diffractograms, but the SEM-EDS results showed that they accounted for 36 % of the copper weight. The voltamperometric study of CuNps-CSKPH in acid media validated the presence of Cu and the amount was determined to be 2.58 μg. The catalytic activity of CuNPs-CSKPH was analyzed for the electrochemical reduction of CO2. The use of Sargassum spp. has great potential to tackle two environmental problems simultaneously, by using it as raw material for the synthesis of activated biochar as support, as well as the synthesis of CuNPs, and secondly, by using it as a sustainable material for the electrochemical conversion of CO2.

Abstract: Evolution of biologically inspired experimental processes for the synthesis of nanoparticles is developed into an important branch of nanotechnology. The leaf and flower extract of Cassia auriculata L. ( Caesalpiniacece) in the synthesis of copper nanoparticles was investigated employing UV/Ultra visible spectrophotometer, SEM/scanning electron microscopy and PXRD/Powder X-ray diffraction. Uv shows the sharp band of copper Nanoparticles is around 375nm of Cassia auriculata (fresh and dry leaf and flower) , SEM image has shown the morphological shape of the copper nanoparticles C.auriculata fresh leaf copper nanoparticles average size is 12.43nm, dry leaf is 40nm and fresh flower copper nanoparticles size is 57.87nm, dry flower is 7.14nm, X-ray diffraction patterns of synthesized fresh leaves mean size of copper nanoparticles calculated using the DebyeScherrer’s equation was found to be 12.43nm,mean size of dry leaves is 40nm,mean size of fresh flower is 57.87nm and mean size of dry flower is 7.14nm respectively.The results of antimicrobial activity of the C. auriculata green synthesized CuNPs against the Gram- negative bacterial strains (E. coli and S.typhi) and the Gram-positive bacterial strains (S.aureus and B.subtilis), Fungi (Aspergillus niger, Fusarium oxysporum, Penicillium atramentosum, Aspergillus flavus) under the well diffusion method had a considerable antimicrobial activities increased with higher concentration. The fresh leaves CuNPs shows more effective against S.aureus, dry leaves CuNPs against E. coli, fresh flowers CuNPs against S. aureus and dry flowers CuNPs shows more effective against B. subtilis. In case of fungi both fresh and dry leaves and flowers CuNPs shows more effective against F.oxysporum. C. auriculata is a medicinal shrub or tree which is native to the India, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. This plant reported for its uses in the Ayurvedic and siddha system of medicine for treating various diseases mainly both the diabetes types. The antimicrobial potential of the leaf and flower extract was tested. The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal property were found to be better for the aqueous leaf and flower extract and the extract containing the metal particles.

Green Synthesis of Copper Nanoparticles Using Leaf Extract of Phyllanthus niruri Lin. and Study of Its Antimicrobial Activity

Abstract: Nanoscience and Nanotechnology are the study and application of extremely small things and can be used across all the other science fields such as chemistry, biology, physics and engineering. Green synthesis of nanoparticles using plant extract is a promising and ecofriendly approach, often yielding particles with unique properties. The present study deals with biosynthesis, characterization and antimicrobial activity. Of copper sulphate nanoparticles using the leaf extract of Phyllanthus niruri. In this report, aqueous phase green synthesis of specifically copper sulphate nanoparticles using leaf extract (both fresh and dry leaf) aqueous leaf extract of leaf was used for the synthesis of nanoparticles. The synthesised nanoparticles of copper sulphate were confirmed by color change when 25ml of 1% aqueous copper sulphate solution was added to 5ml og plant extract. The synthesised nanoparticles were charecterised by UV-Visible spectroscopy, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), and XRD (X-Ray Diffraction). The UV-VIS spectroscopy showed the absorption peak at 378nm for fresh leaf and 376nm for dry leaf. SEM was used to study the morphological features that was predominately spherical and aggregated into large structure with not welldefined morphology and the size347nm,358nm,400nm,457nm, for fresh leaf 1.13µm,1.14µm,771nm,935nm for dry leaf. XRD using this the particle size and nature of nanoparticle was found the average diameter of copper nanoparticles is 12.8nm for dry leaf and 6.10nm for fresh leaf. antimicrobial activity was done using different bacterial and fungal species, in antibacterial activity St. aureus show maximum inhibition that is 75% in fresh leaf and 63%in dry leaf while compare to others, S. typhi showed 0% inhibition it was not resistant towards P.niruri. In antifungal activity F.oxysporum has shown maximum inhibition that is 77% for both fresh and dry leaf, penicillium atramentosum showed 0% inhibition it was not resistant towards P.niruri

Synthesis of hot spring origin bacterial cell wall polysaccharide-based copper nanoparticles with antibacterial property

BackgroundAt present, research on facile, green synthesis of nanoparticles has significantly increased because of its fast, one-step, cost-effective, time-efficient, and non-toxic nature. In this study, we have reported a single-step green synthesis of copper nanoparticles using cell wall polysaccharides of a hot spring origin, thermotolerant Bacillus species. ResultCopper nanoparticles were characterized using UV-visible spectrophotometry, fluorescence and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy, particle size, and zeta potential analyses. UV-visible spectra of synthesized copper nanoparticles exhibited a band cantered between 220–235 nm, characteristic spectra of copper oxide nanoparticles. Infrared spectra showed the band at 490-530 cm−1 corresponding to metal-oxygen or copper nanoparticle vibration, supporting the presence of copper oxide nanoparticles in the monoclinic phase. The energy dispersive spectra of copper nanoparticles exhibited a strong signal from elemental copper. The dynamic Light Scattering pattern confirmed the nanoparticle nature of the studied sample. These nanoparticles showed preferential activity against gram-negative pathogens, Salmonella typhi and Escherichia coli. The thermodynamic nature of the nanoparticles is also established for its antibacterial actions. ConclusionsThe antibacterial action and its thermodynamics reinforce the possible use of copper nanoparticles as an alternative to commercially available antimicrobials. Green synthesis of copper nanoparticles from agro-waste garlic husk

Abstract The objective of this study was to test the antibacterial activity of copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) against bacterial pathogens by green synthesizing them from aqueous extracts of garlic husk. The synthesized Cu NPs were examined by UV-visible (UV-VIS) spectroscopy at (200–400 nm), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and zeta potential analysis. The findings supported the capping, reduction, and production of Cu NPs with an average crystalline size of 14 nm in the husk extract. The minimum inhibitory concentration technique (MIC test) was used to measure the antibacterial activity against Gram-positive (Escherichia coli, Vibrio cholera) and Gram-negative (Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus) microorganisms. The lowest concentration required for inhibiting the growth of the bacterial strains ranged from 34.7 to 43.04 μg/ml. The above findings suggest that greenly synthesized Cu NPs made from garlic agro-waste may have potential uses in the realm of nanomedicine as an antibacterial drug in the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections due to their superior antibacterial activity.

Immunomodulatory, Antioxidant, and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Green Synthesized Copper Nanoparticles for Treatment of Chronic Toxoplasma gondii Infection.

Nowadays, interest in the use of nanotechnology for medical purposes is increasing. The current experimental investigation is planned for the green synthesis, characterization, and efficacy of copper nanoparticles (CLN) against chronic Toxoplasma gondii infection. Green synthesis of CNP was performed using the Lupinus arcticus extract via the precipitation method. The effects of CNP on tachyzoites, infectivity rate, parasites inside THP-1 cells, nitric oxide (NO) triggering, iNOS, and IFN-γ expression genes were evaluated. Following toxoplasmosis in BALB/c mice via the T. gondii ME49 strain, mice received CNP at 5 and 10 mg/kg/day alone and combined with pyrimethamine (PYM) at 5 mg/kg for two weeks. CNP's in vivo effects were evaluated by analyzing the load and size of cysts, oxidant/antioxidant enzymes, and bradyzoite surface antigen 1 (BAG1) expression gene levels. CNP displayed a circular shape ranging from 10 to 85 nm. The IC50 value of CNP and PYM against tachyzoites was 37.2 and 25.7 µg/mL, respectively, whereas the CC50 value of CNP and pyrimethamine against THP-1 cells was 491.4 μg/mL and 269.5 μg/mL, respectively. The rate of infectivity and parasite load among THP-1 cells exposed to CNP was obviously reduced (p < 0.05). CNP at the doses of 5 and 10 mg/kg predominantly along with PYM evidently (p < 0.05) reduced the number and size of the T. gondii cysts in the infected mice. The levels of NO, iNOS, and IFN-γ genes were remarkably (p < 0.001) boosted compared with the cells without treatment. CNP at the doses of 10 and 20 mg/kg drastically (p < 0.05) reduced the oxidative stress markers in the infected mice, whereas CNP significantly elevated the level of antioxidant factors. CNP also revealed no toxicity in the liver and kidney at the tested doses in healthy mice. Our experimental study reported the beneficial effects of CNP principally along with existing chemical drugs against latent toxoplasmosis in mice, whereas the possible action mechanisms of CNP are controlling oxidative stress, refining antioxidant enzymes, and increasing the production of immunomodulatory cytokines with no toxicity to the function of vital organs. But, additional trials are required to confirm these results, as well as to clarify the accurate mechanisms and their toxicity.

Green Synthesis of Copper Nanoparticles Using Citrullus colocynthis Peel Extract and Antibacterial Activity for Biomedical Applications

A novel and green method was developed to synthesise copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) using Citrullus colocynthis peel extract as a sustainable source. The study is the first to utilise this extract for the environmentally safe and economically efficient synthesis of CuNPs. The impact of experimental parameters, including the copper sulfate concentration, extract volume, reaction time, and temperature, on the synthetic procedure was thoroughly investigated. The as-prepared CuNPs were characterised using HRTEM, FESEM, XRD, EDX, UV–vis spectrophotometry, and FTIR spectroscopy. The CuNPs exhibited a spherical morphology with an average particle size of 9 nm, and the calculated d-spacing values were measured at 0.257 nm. Furthermore, the XRD analysis revealed characteristic diffraction peaks at 2θ angles of 44.56°, 56.1°, and 71.4°. The UV–Vis absorption spectra of the CuNPs displayed a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peak at 335 nm, corresponding to an energy band gap of 3.47 eV. Further, the FTIR spectra confirmed the interaction between copper and the biomolecules present in the extract, providing evidence of the significant role played by organic compounds in the capping process. The as-prepared CuNPs exhibited strong antibacterial activity against both gram-negative (P. aeruginosa and E. coli) and gram-positive (S. aureus and S. epidermidis) bacteria.

Moringa oleifera seed based green synthesis of copper nanoparticles: Characterization, environmental remediation and antimicrobial activity

Textile dyes and heavy metals like hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] are considered major water pollutants. In addition, microbial contamination also seriously threatens potable water availability. The present study used Moringa oleifera seed aqueous extract to synthesize copper nanoparticles (MOS-CuNPs). MOS-CuNPs were characterized by various spectroscopy and microscopic techniques. MOS-CuNPs were shown to be effectual at removal of Cr(VI). The initial concentration of Cr(VI), contact time, pH, and temperature all impacted the removal of Cr(VI) by different concentrations of MOS-CuNPs. At low concentrations of MOS-CuNPs (0.3 mg/ml) pseudo-first order and high concentrations of MOS-CuNPs (0.4 and 0.5 mg/ml), pseudo-second order kinetics were obeyed. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that Cr(VI) was removed spontaneously, and the reaction was exothermic. In adsorption isotherm, equilibrium data followed Langmuir equation for Cr(VI) adsorption by MOS-CuNPs and maximum uptake capacity calculated was 38.6 mg/g. MOS-CuNPs efficiently removed cationic (rhodamine B, malachite green and methylene blue and) and anionic (congo red, titan yellow and methyl orange) dyes within 10 min of contact time. Further MOS-CuNPs showed antimicrobial activity against human pathogenic bacteria and fungi. Altogether, MOS-CuNPs could be used for environmental (water treatment) and biological applications.

Treatment of nerve cancer with the green synthesis of CuO NPs

With technological advances in molecular techniques and bioinformatics, many information has been gained that will help in the cancer early diagnosis. Studying and investigating agents of natural origin, such as plants nanocompounds is one of the most important research goals in the cancer treatment field. In the recent study, copper nanoparticles were synthesized according to green chemistry rules using the Boswellia thurifera aqueous extract. After doing the clinical trial studies, the recent nanoparticles may be used as an anti-carcinoma supplement in humans. The properties of copper nanoparticles against common human nerve carcinoma cell lines i.e. were determined. The green-synthesized copper nanoparticles were characterized using different techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis). The FE-SEM results confirm spherical morphology for the nanoparticles with size of 14.1 to 37.9 nm. The IC50 of the copper nanoparticles was 163 and 245 against S462 Human Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor and BL1391 cancer cells, respectively. Copper nanoparticles induce cell apoptosis, accompanied by the pro-apoptotic markers upregulation (cleaved caspase-8 and Bax) and anti-apoptotic marker downregulation, Bcl-2. Also, copper nanoparticles prevent colony formation compared to their matched control. More significantly, the molecular pathway analysis of copper nanoparticles-treated cells indicated that copper nanoparticles raises p53 expression, while preventing the expression of total and phosphorylated Signal Transducer and Activator Of Transcription 3 (STAT3) in cell lines, offering p53 and STAT3 are the main key players behind the biological events provoked by the extract in human cancer cells.
